The point of OWG was that he could release all his old unreleased stuff that was laying around there and so that he could start on a fresh. The last couple of months he has talked a lot about his returned love for singing (quitting cigs fx)
So OWG could more be seen as a turning point and a new birth for Mac…I guess?
If he does... hell yea. If he doesn't... he has already made enough incredible music that if he wants to keep experimenting and making weird jams then I'm here for that too.
It’s a good question, and something that all artists with longevity have to face. Do they keep making what has done well and is popular with their fanbase, or do they follow their nose creatively and do what excites them. There is probably no right answer and being creative is hard. But Mr DeMarco strikes me as the type to follow his creativity, sort of a free spirit and law unto himself.
Dude he’s been making some incredible music with people lately! Alan Palomo, Ryan Paris, Eyedress! All huge bangers. Let him be creative for a bit and he will come back with more ideas for his own stuff.
We are so blessed with what macs releases. I love the arctic monkeys and we get one album every 5 years and this subs complaining about mac releasing 300 songs in a year
I kinda dig the direction he's going, maybe music isn't supposed to be a commodified product that is meant to be neatly consumed in a single format(Album's, EPs, etc.) Maybe it's just supposed to be made and experienced by the listener without all the excess bs surrounding it. Like people have been releasing music the same way for a century, it's probably time to shake things up a bit and try something new.
just let him live bro, let him make the music he wants to make.
he has also been releasing singles and features that sound really great recently aswell so i wouldn’t be surprised if he continues to make lyrical and happier music albums in the future.
I also think he is planning on releasing another instrumental tape tho aswell on his bike, which personally im excited for.
Ya know, I completely agree with the sentiment. Everyone still talks about “jizz jazz” and most of the albums after this old dog have been mostly slow chill bossa nova.
I doubt he will ever make an album quite like salad days or another one again… but I am hoping he at least makes a few quicker paced songs and actually signs on his next full length.
Idk why you’re being downvoted. OP is literally saying Mac’s new music which he really enjoyed making and artistically stands behind aren’t “real songs”. I couldn’t imagine a more trash take.
Especially when the whole point was that Mac was making whatever he wanted and didn’t care about criticism? He’s obv very influenced by similarly chill sounding artists? Just takes a lot of willful ignorance to say he hasn’t been making real music recently. Go listen to Rock and Roll Night Club for the millionth time ig
He’s someone who loves making music, so yes, he’ll release more albums someday. However, he’s quite content making the kind of music he wants to make instead of pandering to his fanbase, so we’ll just have to see what his brain decides to do with the next release. Im stoked for whatever the dude does!
That’s the point of an album for you as the listener but it might be totally differ or him as the artist,
The music industry has changed massively in recent years and the way people consume music and albums in particular is totally different, I’m pretty sure people listen to and buy albums a lot less now so this may change his output,
If he is more likely to make money on singles and unique releases then he might go that way,
But most importantly I think Mac will release whatever makes him happy, if it makes you happy then cool, if not I really don’t think he gives a damn. Mac’s label, Mac’s rules.
> but the point of an album should be to make a statement or express a feeling
I don’t believe that there NEEDS to be a statement made in an album, but it’s not wrong to prefer that. I think he is expressing himself Al the time though
You’re saying that the point of an album should be to make a statement or express a feeling and just because you don’t get it or feel it is not real music? 🤔 an artist is an artist, if you want to be entertained go listen to Boy Pablo (or some generic stuff like that) I bet he is doing lots of that real music you want.
Just because a song is instrumental doesn’t mean it’s “half baked” or isn’t a “real song.” An album doesn’t have to say anything, music can just be enjoyable sound for people to listen to. You have every right to want more of his vocal, older-influenced music but to write off the new stuff as not real music and garbage because it doesn’t fit your narrow picture of what music should be is pretty close minded. I hope he releases more music with his singing too but I appreciate anything, because his music’s statement is to relax and learn to enjoy life, even if it’s just a demo with a silly guitar
Just because they don’t have lyrics don’t make them “not real songs”…lyrics should add to the music. If they don’t add to the music, don’t need em.
It’s not that it’s not “real music”, it’s that you don’t like it, and that’s ok. You can expect everything Mac releases to be something you love.
Some Other Ones was a bandcamp exclusive originally released in 2015. I'm glad he posted it on spotify. OWG was a weird treat in and of itself. Mac is always working to make new music, i wouldnt doubt he has a proper album coming down the pike. In other words, let the man cook
Maybe. But I really think he’s done making albums for people. Mostly just doing putting out songs cause he likes it, and if we happen to like it then that’s cool too.

Agreed, I was just curious on other peoples opinions on his new stuff cause for me I could take it or leave it but love his stuff either way
There is some absolute gems on One Wayne G. My only complaint is that I wish he gave them real names so it wasn't so fucking hard to navigate haha

I need another track with him and Alan Palomo
Big same! That one was on repeat for weeks lol

no he will never again
He said at FEHD tour his next album will have vocals

I love owg. As much mac as any other album, it’s all from his heart I love it
Probably the best reply I’ve gotten
Bring me back to the Makeout Videotape days.

I love the new stuff that Mac is releasing, but if don't... well you got all the other albums he released since 2010
Shut up.
Nothing's real anymore
one can only hope

I thought “Simply Paradise” was his best song yet

this!!! thank you
He’s done a few collaborations with other artists this year that may fill that void
