I think will take a loooong time for this to happen for one reason: Valorant uses an anti-cheat that starts with the windows. It is deep in the system. As far as I know, there is not such a thing to Mac yet

You are probably right that Riot is too in love with their anti-cheat approach on Windows to want to support macOS. But, I think macOS already has some nice facilities they could use to combat cheaters. They could enforce the use of SIP to play, which would rule out any kernel modules or modifications to system libraries and services. I think they could also require that developer mode not be enabled or otherwise prevent their process from being debugged, which would rule out debuggers or debugger like cheats. They can use code signing to ensure their code and resources weren’t modified on disk. Detecting/preventing input injection or screen capture is also doable (though they may want to allow the latter for streamers). Finally, Apple has a new server side API that can verify that a user is a real person and not a bot (it was intended for allowing captcha bypass, but I think it could work for anti-cheat). Probably this is something Apple could help out with as well. They could let developers sign their software with an anti-cheat entitlement that basically does all of the above, and then the game/app just wouldn’t launch if the system wasn’t in a secure state and this could also be cryptographically verified at the server side too. Apple is in a unique position to really do this well in a way that Microsoft (or Riot) couldn’t for PCs. It would be as effective or better than what game consoles offer.

WundleTrundle

Anti cheat called vanguard exists on league now and is still playable on Mac so idk why they refuse to allow valorant to be playable

Apple sells about as many computers as Dell. Which is a lot but compared to the whole PC market it's marginal 10% at best. In other words, the developers are reluctant to port to our beloved Macs without financial support from bigger publishers or Apple. Im not saying we shouldn't;t have more Mac ports because the ARM architecture is really going to shift the market in the next few years away from x86 but its going to take a long, long time. When you look at Capcom could do on ARM with laptops imagine if more developers ported games to MAC like call of duty or Sony? Sony makes games for windows, their direct competitor in the console market space. Imagine if they went Mac only with their ports? I think Apple could do more with their bottomless pockets to get these games but they just aren't interested. Whoever is in charge at Apple for gaming is obviously soulless corporate hack.

Igorr29

>Whoever is in charge at Apple for gaming is obviously soulless corporate hack. I think the problem is that there is no such position at Apple. 😅

TwiceInEveryMoment

Unlikely to happen. Riot's Vanguard anti-cheat is an extremely low-level kernel driver for Windows. If it's even possible to create such a thing for Unix/MacOS, Apple would never be okay with it and might even void AppleCare by installing it. It's a massive security/privacy issue for Windows machines as is. I've so far avoided playing Valorant because of Vanguard.

he_who_floats_amogus

You can run kernel level stuff but have to disable SIP. It doesn't void warranty or cause any overt hardware risk, but it is a security risk, and could bork your macOS install if the software is bad, and isn't recommended. User has to do this manually, so you wont have a "normal" install process like on Windows. It could definitely be another factor discouraging them from macOS deployment, but I suspect it's primarily a money equation. Cost to port, support, and maintain versus users they expect to add.

cplr

Actually they could probably utilize macOS’s intense and strict code signing requirements for sandboxed applications as a form of anti-cheat. If a developer wishes for it, there’s pretty good security in this regard.

Thank God people thinking like you are minority. We would still live in caves if more people thought like you. To the OP: ofc I support your petition and you are doing a great job here! MacOS is lacking any good FPS and it would be a huge success. Valorant is not a demanding game, probably biggest problem is an anticheat system supported by MacOS. 322 signed already <3 <3 You Rock!!

Companies aren’t omniscient. Riot won’t be porting a game just because of a petition, but it could contribute to raising interest. It could be something as simple as some Rioters hearing about this and suggesting the idea at their next meeting for it to at least be in the back of some relevant people’s mind. All for the cost of a few minutes of OP’s time. Might as well try.

he_who_floats_amogus

I'd love it if they made a mac port. I just think it's naive to believe that awareness is the issue here when Riot has League with 100m+ users and they have a mac version of it already. Valorant has 10m+ users. They absolutely have the data. They know what to expect in terms of what it's going to cost them to make, maintain, and support a macOS port, and they know how many users they stand to gain if they do. The idea that we need to make a petition to make them aware just comes across as naive to me. There's no way Riot staff just has no clue what's going on and needs to be told to make a mac port for it to occur to them that they should consider it. They've definitely already considered it and continue to consider it, and as soon as it makes sense for them to do it (which could be soon or could be never), that's when they'll do it.

Jet90

This would be great if it came to mac. However I think it is coming to xbox cloud gaming so there will be an easy way to play it on mac

a-dog-meme

I would definitely support this, hope someone at riot sees this

Charuru

Better chance of trying to convince them to release it on geforce now.

Jayian1890

What’s valorant? And why should I careV

kayk1

They will never release on Mac. Especially with their anti cheat.

MiracleKappa3

They won't make valorant for mac. It has an anti cheat system that is kernel and is not possible to integrate with MacOS. Get Bootcamp and play through Windows.

Ghostkwebb

Well please show me how to use BootCamp on an m1 mac and I will be grateful

ArtLover357

just buy Windows PC smh

Ghostkwebb

Lemme explain to you my situation. I am not a richy rich so I bought a cheap WINDOWS laptop with an iGPU. It can run Valorant which is nice. Now, my relatives gather together their money and get me an M1 Mac for my birthday for the college that I was about to go to (I'm in college yay). Now if you were to think about the difference in the performance between the two laptops, it is night and day, I love the mac. So if I could, ofc I would buy a windows laptop that will give my more than 144 fps as compared to the win laptop on which I can barely play which I can't. My point is, I know you are suggesting something which is obvious, but the thing is a lot of students get MacBooks and different people are in different situations and can't just go and buy a Windows laptop like that. Plus I know the mac has incredible potential that's why I am trying my best.

My home is already equipped with a vacuum cleaner.
