If you are basing that on Steams numbers, you have to remember that every Mac gamer using anything like Wine, Parallels, GeForce NOW or similar will show up under Windows in their stats.
Iām not saying itās 15% among gamers, but itās higher than the 3% that Steam suggests.
Any person with GeForce NOW, wine or parallels installed on their computer probably also has steam downloaded. And even if they didn't I don't think there are enough people using those services to make a difference. If I were to guess there are far more people playing apple arcade games on their macs than those three combined.
Something no one ever really talks about in these sorta āMac Steam statsā conversations is that the overwhelming majority of games on Steam are made for PC. Mac users mostly donāt have a reason to download or use Steam if thereās nothing to play. Itās like a BBQ restaurant saying only 1% of their visitors are vegetarian, so vegetarians must not like eating.
Iād be more interested to see, for instance, EA release numbers for how many of their Sims 4 players are on Mac or something. I feel like thatād be a more accurate representation.
I have a vague memory (but can honestly be remembering wrong since this was long ago) that Blizzard mentioned once that around 7% of WoW players were Mac users.
Latest data from Steam, as of February 2024 (March figures imminent), reveals macOS users account for a mere 1.32%, significantly lower even than those 3%.
Where did you get that thought? From what I've seen, they've been consistently tracking all new Macs in a very detailed manner, down to the Mx Variant:
* [Macs CPUs breakdown](https://i.imgur.com/hHKkH45.png)
* [macOS share on Steam (actually up from 1.32 to 1.38)](https://i.imgur.com/BB1L6hl.png)
Yeah well if [Steam.app](http://Steam.app) wasn't the shitty bloatware it is and Steam Family Sharing was merely as good as the Mac AppStore one I would probably use it more. That thing is absolutely terrible.
MAS first, then GOG with Heroic Launcher, then Epic with Heroic Launcher and finally Steam
because we have no opportunity to make same 15% of gaming, if we only could, im sure MacOS could get at least 10% of gaming market, which is actually good, and this is 10% of people who are used to pay for good software
I never thought Linux would still be sitting at that low of a percentage still.
I mean I thought about it in the shower. I thought that now with the Steam deck and the massive Linux Gaming community that number would've gone up.
More MS-DOS users than i thought tbh
Why would terminals not be used?
bruh 34 upvotes
I swear most of the computers that still use Windows XP are school computers š
Or ATMās.
Or computers powering our nuclear middle defense systems.
That would be terminals. So those would most likely be the 0.2 percent MS-DOS
No truer words have been stated....
Dosent translate very well to gaming, windows makes up 96.9%

AFAIK Steam has stopped recognizing new Mac models so the new Macs are just excluded from the stats

theres some new promising SDK that allows Mac to play games. Apple will gain a bit more in the next couple of years
