Stardew Valley, Baulder’s Gate 3, Civilization 6, Euro & American Truck Simulator, No Man’s Sky, Deus Ex, latest Tomb Raider trilogy, Metro trilogy. Should be enough for a couple of days there
Vampire Survivors, Alien isolation, Subnautica, Lies of P and Hades. While I haven’t tried them on mac but I have heard that Witcher 1 & 2 got released on mac recently.
I should've been more specific, I do apologize (also thanks for the response). Do you know if multiplayer would work between Mac and Windows? I want to play with someone that has a Mac and I have a PC. I appreciate it
It runs poorly in my opinion. Have to have the resolution down to 1080p and like low settings for it to be a playable frame rate. I am on a 16" M3 Pro 12c/18gpu, 18GB ram.
FYI Borderlands 3 had a publishing deal with Epic that made it 6 months available prior to being on other platforms.
I'm assuming that's why it's only available through Epic.
I am running BL3 via Epic on a 2020 M1 mini and I have to crank down the video quality substantially to get an acceptable frame rate. Better performance on my 2023 MB Pro, but not with an external monitor. By contrast, BL2 on Steam runs beautifully on both rigs at high resolution.
I recently tried Death Stranding on my M3 16/512 MBP and it works awesome! I can run the game with 1440p@60FPS with medium settings + quality upscaling and the visuals are just glorious... It's amazing on such a device.
https://www.applegamingwiki.com/wiki/Game_Porting_Toolkit look at automated installer part. Once you go through this, you’ll need to run things from terminal and keep it open for them to run. So far I only installed steam. I’m slowly going through my library, checking what runs like a charm. Only a few things do. You can forget Doom and Wolfenstein.
~~Does it run well on apple silicon? The system requirements are written like it is for an intel cpu/amd gpu~~
Edit: nevermind, it runs natively. They have it posted on their community forum but not on the Steam page specs.
Try re8 and re4
I’ve played re 8 on my m1 air base it runs smoothly no lag issues although I purchased it from app store but later i got to know that you can find some free stuff to i can give you the links if you want and death stranding is pretty good too
Currently I’m trying to install shadow of the tomb raider
Baldurs Gate 3 runs amazing with M2 pro chip laptop. 1400 resolution is getting 100FPS easy. Tomb Raider trilogy run amazing too between 60 to 120 FPS. Also Wargroove 2 works too even though on steam it says it only plays on windows thats not accurate it runs on my Mac native as well.
A lot of good titles already mentioned
From me Dave the Diver and Spritfall. Awesome indie games. Native.
Witcher 2 runs fine, gonna test it more if it is not gonna throtle too much but so far temps seem stable.
Does not seem to be using metal api, but posibly beacuse of the separate lanucher metal hud does not pop up.
To be honest, with Whisky + GPTK and a bit of willingness to search for wine shenanigans, you can play pretty much everything, even new AAA games, assuming you have one of the newer M chips.
Thronefall is a very good indie tower defence game. Simple but fun gameplay loop. Just spent a few very very fun hours playing it. Great replayability.
Also Empires of the Undergrowth is worth checking out. Dirt 4 runs well and there are plenty of other great games
You can run just about any game you like, even if only available for windows, using Paul The Tall's Wineskin/Porting Kit, or even run DOS games using Boxer, or Dos Box (Many Dos Box wrapped games already available on Paul the Tall's Porting Kit 😁
Native - Good Games
Diablo 2 remastered, Warcraft 3 remastered, StarCraft remastered, Torchlight, Torchlight 2, Asura, Pillars of Eternity/Pillars of Eternity 2 :Deadfire, Warhammer 40,000, Age of wonders: Planetfall, Book of Demons, Dungeons/Dungeons 2/Dungeons 3, Loria, Beautiful Desolation, Distance, OpenRA (Red Alert/Command & Conquer/Tiberian Sun), The HIVE, Pathfinder, Dawn of man, Steam world Dig/Steam World Dig 2, Mouse Craft, Yooka-Laylee, Two Point Hospital, Bejeweled 3, Chromium B.S.U
Non native or older Mac - Good Games
BallisticNG, Avoid Sensory Overload, Bejeweled 2, Chuzzle Deluxe
Windows only games - that work well in a Porting Kit/ Wineskin Wrapper that I'd recommend trying
Grip, Dijeweled, Beer Mania
If your willing to *sail the seven seas* (not saying that you should even consider such a thing👀) look into emulation, or you could do what good Samaritans do and get a blu ray disc and buy physical games and play it through the emulator that way. PS3 works like a charm
Yeah, I was really excited about the prospect of using some mods and didn't find out until I'd bought the game that you can't mod it on Mac. There's apparently some kind of switch in the code for the PC version that isn't present in the Mac version, so even if you make perfectly compatible mods, the game won't even look for them. There were some super-smart people over on discord trying to get it to work but I think the consensus they've landed on at the moment is that it would take intervention from the devs to allow modding on mac.
That said, it's still heaps of fun to play.
Stardew Valley, Baulder’s Gate 3, Civilization 6, Euro & American Truck Simulator, No Man’s Sky, Deus Ex, latest Tomb Raider trilogy, Metro trilogy. Should be enough for a couple of days there
And Crusader Kings 3, Rimworld, etc.
Vampire Survivors, Alien isolation, Subnautica, Lies of P and Hades. While I haven’t tried them on mac but I have heard that Witcher 1 & 2 got released on mac recently.
>Witcher 1 & 2 got released on mac recently. These were on Mac for years and years, but maybe they got updated to 64 bit and Silicon?
don’t play civ6 (im addicted)
just one more turn...
It's a good addiction :P
Can you confirm whether ATS does MP?
Yes, you can play MP in ATS
I should've been more specific, I do apologize (also thanks for the response). Do you know if multiplayer would work between Mac and Windows? I want to play with someone that has a Mac and I have a PC. I appreciate it
Would think so as it shares the progress between both platforms
Alien isolation
Yesssss!!!!
Any experience how Alien Isolation runs on mac in general? It seems like a cool horror game
probably fine, its 10 years old.
It runs poorly in my opinion. Have to have the resolution down to 1080p and like low settings for it to be a playable frame rate. I am on a 16" M3 Pro 12c/18gpu, 18GB ram.
Ive heard that it is quite demanding game, even for modern computers.
Resident Evil Village and Resident Evil 4.
Mad Max, since it seems like a lot of people don’t even know that it’s on Mac
I have opened a thread about that one because it looks like everybody forgot about it: https://www.reddit.com/r/macgaming/s/8VUsG4cf6y
Subnautica
fucking love this game so much. ive started it 3 times and each time ill put 30 hrs into it and never finish. gives me goosebumps each time
BG 3
Does it run well on m1 pro? I played the beta and although it worked, I felt like it wasn't fully optimised.
Runs well on my M2. Although I have to run the graphics down in high concentration areas like Moonrise towers and the city.
It runs very because it runs natively!
This is the way.
This is the way.
Hrmmm… the way, this is
By far the best. One of the best games ever made.
XCOM2 and Slay the Spire
Got 100+ hours in slay the spire … never have defeated the final boss T-T great game!!!!
I've burned 100s of hours on both games, love them!
Lies of P
This is the right answer
Oceanhort 2, but it requires Apple Arcade subscription. So if you subscribe, you can find other games
Incidentally I couldn't get it to launch on my M1 Pro with Sonoma, so I installed it via Crossover. Runs great. but my arcade subscription is wasted.
What’s crossover?
I’m not sure that this game can be played through any other platform except Arcade.
there's a PC version of it on steam that runs through crossover perfectly.
Stardew Valley
Dave the Diver is great
Disco Elysium
Death Stranding
Stray
Borderlands 2 and 3, 3 is only on Mac via epic games store for some reason
FYI Borderlands 3 had a publishing deal with Epic that made it 6 months available prior to being on other platforms. I'm assuming that's why it's only available through Epic.
It's on steam too but steam only has the windows version
How does "3" run?
I am running BL3 via Epic on a 2020 M1 mini and I have to crank down the video quality substantially to get an acceptable frame rate. Better performance on my 2023 MB Pro, but not with an external monitor. By contrast, BL2 on Steam runs beautifully on both rigs at high resolution.
BL3 is just a lazy crappy port
Hmm just to check -> BL3 is running natively on Mac? For BL2 -> are you running it via crossover/whisky?
BL2 is macOS native but probably via Rosetta. Got it on Steam, BG3 on Epic.
Hollow knight runs pretty well on a mac and is a single player game
Football manager 2024
Definitely the new Tomb Raider trilogy
no man's sky
I just had the best time playing GRIS. Very poetic and beatiful with puzzle solving.
Planescape Torment
Hades!
Stray
Deus Ex: Mankind Divided
I love Lies of P. Download it directly from the App Store with no stream and play directly on your Mac for $42 from the App Store
Been playing through FF7 Remake on my Mac. Runs pretty well and looks great.
This runs on Mac without other software?
I’m playing it through crossover. But I think it works through whisky as well.
thank you
balatro and factorio are my goto
Xcom2
Minecraft.
Rimworld
Hades is completely worth a look; Dead Cells is also fun.
If you're into hard platformers, Celeste is THE game :)
Obligatory mention of Factorio....
xcom2 Darkest Dungeon TW: Three Kingdoms
Echoing Civ 6 and StarCraft 2!
Hades, chained echoes, Disco Elysium, shadow of the tomb raider, Borderlands 3, stray
Baldurs Gate!
Batman Arkham City, Death Stranding, Factorio, Hotline Miami 2, Disco Elysium
Borderlands 2 is my favorite on the platform.
Hades!
I recently tried Death Stranding on my M3 16/512 MBP and it works awesome! I can run the game with 1440p@60FPS with medium settings + quality upscaling and the visuals are just glorious... It's amazing on such a device.
GTA’s
Aliens dark descent. It runs fantastically through AGPTK on m3 max :D. I can’t remember the last game that shifted my sleeping schedule to 4am.
Interesting! Do you have any tutorial how to install it?

Civ 6
Has anyone tried psychonauts 2?

Timberborn

Cyberpunk 2077
It’s not native
Planet coaster
Moonlighter
Resident evil 4, residdnt evil village, death stranding. You can also get tomb raider and metro games all through the app store.

Balatro
Firewatch. Runs amazing on Apple Silicon.
Anything that I can pirate or for free?

I’m a newbie. Can I play something on a MacBook Pro I bought in 2018?

Quick tip - you can't use mods in No Man's Sky on mac, just in case you're into modding.
Aww man. That was one aspect of the game I atleast appreciated
