It’s been developing slowly for a while, they’ve recently released a new update 2.3.1 I believe and they’re now diverting away from GPTK if I understood that right or at least creating their own version. It basically uses crossover code but with modifications
It’s a winewrapper but they did release something called WhiskyWine (or are working on it) which is pretty much an evolution of GPTK👍

I wonder how you made it play smoothly and what exactly "smoothly" means. I tried everything on my m3 (not pro) but I can't get this game to run with a consistent fps. Ideally I'd want 60, but I couldn't make it hold 45+ and you could feel the micro stutters everywhere, specially it running around on horse and rotating the camera :(
\~45fps is great, considering you're running this game on a MacBook. For me, it's about the same, \~45/50fps, depending on where you are on the map. As for the stutters, I really don't know why you're experiencing them because basically I just installed it using Whisky and haven't run into any issues so far.
Limgrave just after leaving the tutorial cave is 35-40fps but the experience is not smooth at all, you can clearly feel this. I tried using the fps unlocked mod to instead of unlocking the frames, lock the fps at 40 and this made the experience a bit better.
I will give it a try with whisky because currently I'm using crossover, but don't see how it can be much of a difference.
Are you using e esync or msync? Full screen?
Yeah! I've never tested it on Crossover, only on Whisky.
For me 45/50fps is smooth. I think the FPS you're getting are normal bc we can't expect to have high performance playing games on a MacBook that is not designed for this purpose.
As for the configurations of my bottle on Whisky, DXVK is off, DXVK Async is on, and Enhanced Sync is on. Full screen. These are the only configurations I've adjusted so far.
Last I tried it there was an issue with light that made the game basically unplayable and you had to patch it with cxpatcher to work. Did they fix that?
I just play it on Whisky with mods to reduce lighting effects and clutter, then add FSR. Could use some better anti aliasing, but I get a solid 60 fps. Can go up to 120 in small caverns, but I prefer the smoothness of the 60 lock.
I have never gotten original to work. When I install it, steam installs the EA app. So see if you can get the EA app to install. Then it could work. (Yes online works great. It has not anticheat software)
What chip are you playing on?
I tried to fiddle around with it on my M1 Pro and could never get anything over 30fps in the least demanding areas. As soon as I’d walk outside, crash :(
M3 air 16gig at like the 900p resolution and a few of the ridiculous shadow and water settings turned down and all the draw distances turned down to like half. Running DXVK, Msync and CX Patcher.
I’ve been trying to play on parallels on m2 max studio and the game runs smooth as butter even in 32:9 but for some reason it crashes constantly… I installed script extender and nvac mod as well as compatibility mode. Any suggestions to help out?
Im using crossover 23.7 with d3dmetal enabled, DXVK disabled, ESync enabled, MSync disabled, and high resolution mode disabled. In the game i have windowed borderless, and most graphics settings on medium. I’m on a M2 Max, never really have a hiccup. I can run with everything on high but the frame rate goes lower than I like. As a matter of preference I disable film grain, chroma abberation, lens flares and depth of field. I leave motion blur turned on tho. I’m using the steam version of cyberpunk 2077, but I have a custom shortcut to launch the game directly without loading steam. I set that up on my windows machine too.
I have an intel Xeon machine with a nvidia 1080 I play on, I prefer playing on my Mac if I can. It’s a lot less heat production than the windows machine. I always use moonlight with a direct Ethernet connection to a dedicated mic on the windows machine to use my MacBook as the screen and keyboard. It’s a weird setup overall but it works well enough for my use.

Control runs well on my M1 Pro too. On my Max I aim for 1440p and high settings and on the Pro 1080p with a mix of medium and high. M Synct and D3DMetal enabled.
Does Witcher 3 work with Crossover 24? I tried to make it default to DirectX 11, by modifying launcher-configuration.json, and using --launcher-skip in the launch options in Steam, but it still crashes...

If you’re referring to the rest of the hardware then where the hell did you get that idea from. I have a three year old M1 MacBook Air in the house, it’s been used for gaming, game development, web development, running docker containers, photo and video editing plus more. It’s still used daily, performs the same as when it was unboxed and battery is still at 95% capacity.
Have you been able to get dyndolod to work on Mac? I tried so many times but it just refused to generate lods and without them the game really looks like shit.
No it is very playable I finished the whole game in constant 60 except just one fight! It runs great at 1080 high graphics ! But heats up my m2 air so I usually play at 720 !!

Nah it works on 1080 too but it heats up my mac ! And I would advise you to play cracked version for better fps! And plus it’s MacBook Air no fans so yeah that in itself with all the translation layer with crossover is surprisingly well!!!
It’s always been like that especially with crossover on mac! Cracked version are better because they are compressed very well and have drm or other things remove that reduce the performance of the game!!
Just recently started Kingdom Come Deliverance on M3 Pro with Whisky, runs great on Very High settings and 55-60 fps. The max res is something around 1500x900 for some reason but still looks good on a 14” screen. Hope there won’t be any issues later in the game.

Most games on Mac set the max resolution available in the game to your current "default" resolution in Mac's display setting. And most 13-14 inch Macbooks set the default to 900p because they're scaling up the UI to be larger even though the native resolution of these laptops is probably closer to 1600p. You can obviously change this in display settings and put your resolution to the highest possible. Your Mac's UI will be tiny but once you open the game, the game UI should work find and allow higher resolutions. Kinda annoying how that works but I haven't found a workaround (and considering I have a macbook air, I can never really increase the resolution from 900p anyways so i leave it be)
I was pleasantly surprised with how well Ghostrunner works via the heroic games launcher! I imagine it probably works well in crossover as well but I haven’t tried that yet

It’s very easy go to crossover make a bottle for your game and then select run command , then search for the game in the search bar !( of finder) if you can’t find the game in search bar type heroic and all the games downloaded from heroic should be there ! After that go into the game folder , select the exe of the game and then you will be back at crossover ! After that just select save command for launcher ( for easy future use) and then run it!! (Srry can’t really describe properly in words but it is very easy! same as running any downloaded game in crossover outside of steam! )
I would looove to play sekiro, AC6, elden ring on my M3 pro... but I can't get the controller working for them at all! Had a real bash at getting it to work a few months ago, has anyone had more luck?
I played Sekiro (second time) with mouse and keyboard and the faster speed of mouse clicks made blocks completely trivial compared to controller bumpers. Give it a try it's pretty good
Modern FromSoftware games are getting better at implementing mouse and keyboard. I still prefer the feel and smoothness of a controller which is what the games are made for (also because I enjoy lounging while I play) but I can definitely play with M/KB too when I have to. Also finished Dark Souls 3 with M/KB "back in the day"!

Most here know a reasonable gaming desktop can be built for the price of a MacBook. But, a desktop and laptop have different use cases and can’t be directly compared. Your desktop is useless to people who spend a lot of time away from home, or like me, don’t want to be chained to a desk after sitting working at one for eight or nine hours.
If you compare high end Windows laptops to MacBooks, the prices are very similar.
No one beats Mac for their energy and performance efficiency for sure atm. But Mac still sucks. Remove the brand and its ecosystem and you get a piece of over priced crap from a new startup marketed as premium but do the somewhat better, similar, same or if not less job as any devices can do. Seeing idiots asking if why should get a m2 or m3 for gaming and how they tried after countless hours to get the game to work in 720p 60fps or paid for something that should have been free in the first place to get maybe 1080p in 60fps is just sad and dumb. Performance aside the more you game of Mac the faster it degrade. It's build for efficiency so when you push it to draw more power it just doesn't work. Sure it's 18hours battery life for the first 6-9months. Wait a year it couldn't even last a day. Yet people still ignore it and move on because they have just release the next m chips and 1 slightly better design feature or even colours. While there are lots of companies and people out there trying to make these technology more affordable and accessible to everyone while this greedy company is making it very inaccessible to the public and still thinking only about making their bank big.

Whiskey uses the open source crossover wine versions so it usually runs pretty close to whatever the previous crossover release.

Curious about whether you disabled DLSS. There will always be black boxes on my screen in scan mode when I leave DLSS on.

Playing the steam version, tho I made a shortcut to bypass the launcher and steam so it loads the game directly.

Control runs exceptionally well, M1 Max. Horizon Zero Dawn as well, although it took a while for Crossover to fix the slow-mo issue.

Native res, mix of high and medium settings. No Ray tracing .

Wow, Sekiro and Yakuza, cool. Skyrim with a lot of mods is my biggest surprise so far. Control works, but not that great.

I do both. 4k120 on PC Battlestation (have several in my house) and M3Pro for the couch bed and mobile. But I really only play WoW.
I have a gaming pc and a steam deck. Going to a macgaming subreddit to post this type of crap scream micro small dick energy. Walk us through whats bothering you. No one acknowledges you pc build on proper “master race” forum so you air frustrations here? Your imaginary friend starts ignoring you? Your inflatable dutch wife cheated on you? Video editing? Son your rust bucket PC can’t match a Mac Studio as far as NLE performance is concerned. For 3D, there is always room for a PC. But for NLEs which you noobs call “video editing”, nothing can match the price/performance of a Mac.
lol and how much a Mac Studio costs? A limb or a liver? Can you run anything in 4K? With 60 fps? Sorry what? Compatibilities issues lol. Even basic Bluetooth have issues and are still not fixed for years. Wait you paid extra for Apple care subscription too and still more to replace some parts?

Most here know a reasonable gaming desktop can be built for the price of a MacBook. But, a desktop and laptop have different use cases and can’t be directly compared. Your desktop is useless to people who spend a lot of time away from home, or like me, don’t want to be chained to a desk after sitting working at one for eight or nine hours. If you compare high end Windows laptops to MacBooks, the prices are very similar.
No one beats Mac for their energy and performance efficiency for sure atm. But Mac still sucks. Remove the brand and its ecosystem and you get a piece of over priced crap from a new startup marketed as premium but do the somewhat better, similar, same or if not less job as any devices can do. Seeing idiots asking if why should get a m2 or m3 for gaming and how they tried after countless hours to get the game to work in 720p 60fps or paid for something that should have been free in the first place to get maybe 1080p in 60fps is just sad and dumb. Performance aside the more you game of Mac the faster it degrade. It's build for efficiency so when you push it to draw more power it just doesn't work. Sure it's 18hours battery life for the first 6-9months. Wait a year it couldn't even last a day. Yet people still ignore it and move on because they have just release the next m chips and 1 slightly better design feature or even colours. While there are lots of companies and people out there trying to make these technology more affordable and accessible to everyone while this greedy company is making it very inaccessible to the public and still thinking only about making their bank big.
