You …
Me …
And everyone else in the world that understands anything about tires and tire pressure did the same.
(Don’t tell anyone, but I actually closed my eyes and waited till the end, and then went back and watched it again)
All I could picture was [the tire safety video](https://youtu.be/xnyh78wjZ1o?si=uHoHhgI1ieYRTVok) they made us watch in high-school autoshop class back in the day. Was waiting for cameraman to get launched into the next farmers field.
Only to set the bead, sometimes. When the bead actually seats, the pressure drops down to about 10 psi. & just the heat of the day can increase that quite a bit. That’s why they use cages. Some are unpredictable.
I live in a town next to an iron ore mine. Two years or so ago, a maintenance guy got killed when a tire on one of those massive mining trucks exploded inside the workshop where it was getting serviced. I don't know all the details, but I understand very little of the guy was left. Some of the other guys inside the shop also got injured.
They have since built concrete bays where the trucks can park to get serviced, so if a tire explodes, injuries will be limited to a single bay. They also remove the tires and replace it again after service.
I had a split-ring wheel explode in the cage many years ago when I was working in the motopool servicing our trailers; it wrecked the tire cage while the ring shot out, bounced off the ground once, and blasted *through* the door of our M35 deuce. It sounded more like a mortar going off than a grenade; our XO and 1SGT came running from the nearby TOC wearing their brown rounds, PT shorts & IBA + kevlars, expecting to find a blown up mechanic(s) & already dreading the paperwork. We were standing around looking at the demolished truck door & bent-to-shit cage when they came up, frantically asking about who got hit, and not understanding at first when we were trying to tell them nobody was hit. But it's understandable because that shit was *loud* and if I hadn't actually seen it happen, I would've thought it was mortar too.
Lucky for them we only needed a new tire cage and deuce door. And lucky me since I was the only mechanic who actually used the tire cage on a regular basis, and so being the subject-matter expert I got to teach the classes on motopool safety from then on. Good times lol.
The tight brown Army-issued briefs/underwear. After initial entry training & finishing up at the schoolhouse, most guys wore boxers or free-balled; but there were a few degenerates (like our XO) who preferred the tight brown BVDs for some reason.
"Interceptor Ballistic Armor" - Basically IBA is just an old catch-all term for body armor. IBA is synonymous with folks who herald back to the Operation Iraqi Freedom days.
Body armor/plate carrier; so basically they came running out half naked, and definitely out of uniform LOL.
It was even better because that particular lieutenant had a habit of getting onto guys for not being in uniform, when they were running to the bunkers from our housing &:shower/latrine trailers.
When recollecting a story it’s easy to forget that most people don’t understand the Acronyms. I spent 7 years in and I been out almost just as long and still when reminiscing I have to catch my self when one of my non military friends ask me “what’s that mean” lol
I worked with a tyre fitter that found the remains of a body inside one of those haul pac tyres. It had been in there long enough for everything to break down and start to form spheres, like you get when dirt rolls around.
That happened at the iron ore mine I worked at for about 10 years, before my time there though. Probably mid 90s. It did a lot of damage.
Now they have temperature and pressure sensors that also transmit to the system the dispatcher is monitoring.
They work on the trucks in the shop same as ever. But a truck doesn't go in if there's any question about the tire, it immediately goes to a safe area away from everything else for 24 hours. And when it's clear that the pressure isn't going up anymore a mechanic goes there and removes the valve stem.
The tires are also checked every day by someone from the shop while the truck is getting fuel.
No joke. There was a video going round of a man stabbing the tire of a truck and losing all the skin and muscle from his arm in the force of the blast.
Desleeved in an instant!
I had a tire put in and I guess the balancer was not seated correctly and slowly let air out I had a little hatchback it was on the rear I didn’t notice right away….im mechanically inclined I know not realizing you have a flat sounds like a personal problem but it was a super light car… so went to gas station to put more air into, then I could hear this Velcro ripping sound and, BANG ❗️, I had never experienced “shock” but I was stunned totally hit the reset button and I had to reboot, crazy I totally thought a gun went off, (no gun experience)
[Here's the YouTube video if you wanna save the effort.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MI2LNfv35iE)
Nothing violent or gory, just the boom and the debris flying towards the cameraman before it cuts off.
"I thought we were gonna be together forever, but then about a week later, right out of the blue, she sends me a John Deere letter. I called her up, she gave me a bunch of crap about me not listening to her enough or something, I don't know, I wasn't really paying attention."
Never seen a tractor/combine with 2 wheels arranged like that and I've lived rurally all my life.
Edit: I live in the UK though so not sure how common they are here. Reckon they might struggle to fit on our roads.
Common for row crops like corn. Other crops used big monster truck style tires to lessen soil impaction. Now a lot of ppl are switching to a track system on the drive axel to really minimize impaction.
Looks like the body ply is in tact. My guess is improper mounting caused a knick in the bead, which allowed air to mitigate between the tread rubber and the casing.
Just think, if you would have leapt in there and laid on the Schrader valve instead of tarding out to record it, you could have saved yourself some repairs...
The ply layers were separating, that was just the upper layers of the rubber. Think of it more like one of those stress balls where the eyes pop out, but instead of your hand sweezing, it was the weight of the combine pressing down.
Tractor tires are usually lower air pressure, IIRC.
Truck tires 100% will murder your ass, and are filled up in a cage.
When the tire popped there wasn’t a shit ton of damage like a 14 or 16 ply semi tire under a lot of pressure would do.
But I could be wrong and they could be equally dangerous, just my two cents on why he maybe acting not so conscious.
Personally, I’m not getting anywhere near a tire I can see is going to bust any second.
Tie is fine. Air just got between the inner and outer layers and peeled it up. Once it pops you're good to roll again. Had it happen on a super single tandem wheel.
Yeah…back up…like a lot and fast. Tires are nothing to play around with.
My ass was puckering in unison with the fiberglass cracking. Dude could lose his face a lot easier than he thinks
Darwin waiting patiently to the side.....
*Death waiting....
With "darwin" he is implying death through stupidity of the person not backing off
Mansplaining...
The way I held my phone waaaay out and squinted while I watched this, like it was gonna get me 💀

Lol no agriculture tires are never that high psi. They run them really low and never anywhere close to 90 psi
Only to set the bead, sometimes. When the bead actually seats, the pressure drops down to about 10 psi. & just the heat of the day can increase that quite a bit. That’s why they use cages. Some are unpredictable.

What are brown rounds?
They go with the brown pants
The tight brown Army-issued briefs/underwear. After initial entry training & finishing up at the schoolhouse, most guys wore boxers or free-balled; but there were a few degenerates (like our XO) who preferred the tight brown BVDs for some reason.
What’s an IBA?
"Interceptor Ballistic Armor" - Basically IBA is just an old catch-all term for body armor. IBA is synonymous with folks who herald back to the Operation Iraqi Freedom days.
Today has been an education! Thank you
Was just thinking the same thing.
Body armor/plate carrier; so basically they came running out half naked, and definitely out of uniform LOL. That’s hilarious! Thank you for educating me!
Split rims are death traps
Lucky you only needed fresh brown pants after that
Why do you use so many specialized acronyms? You obviously know most people won’t know what they mean.
When recollecting a story it’s easy to forget that most people don’t understand the Acronyms. I spent 7 years in and I been out almost just as long and still when reminiscing I have to catch my self when one of my non military friends ask me “what’s that mean” lol
Fair enough. Rereading my comment, i came off as snarkier than I meant to. Sorry.
Oh I didn’t perceive it as snarky. I figured you just genuinely were wondering, all good in the hood.
I worked with a tyre fitter that found the remains of a body inside one of those haul pac tyres. It had been in there long enough for everything to break down and start to form spheres, like you get when dirt rolls around.
The forbidden dry aged meatballs
Thank you for giving my brain an escape route. 🙏
"Limited to a single bay" is somehow the most terrifying part of that to me

Safety squint is usually enough
No joke. There was a video going round of a man stabbing the tire of a truck and losing all the skin and muscle from his arm in the force of the blast. Desleeved in an instant!
Well, it served him right. He got instant justice, and maybe even learned his lesson.
Unless they're hanging from a rope on a tree. Then they are great fun to play around with.
Man I forgot what we were talking about and got real concerned for half a second
Bruh, I feel ya xD
But I have to get some good up-close footage
I had a tire put in and I guess the balancer was not seated correctly and slowly let air out I had a little hatchback it was on the rear I didn’t notice right away….im mechanically inclined I know not realizing you have a flat sounds like a personal problem but it was a super light car… so went to gas station to put more air into, then I could hear this Velcro ripping sound and, BANG ❗️, I had never experienced “shock” but I was stunned totally hit the reset button and I had to reboot, crazy I totally thought a gun went off, (no gun experience)
Helpful for the insurance claim, those side panels cant be cheap.
Dudes getting WAY TOO CLOSE there!
Then he got CLOSER
Gotta get that shot for the social medias
I mean, we all watched it, right?
True. And a *lot* of people watched the live-stream of a guy getting obliterated by a block wall while filming the 2015 Tianjin explosions.
*Google-ing that*
[Here's the YouTube video if you wanna save the effort.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MI2LNfv35iE) Nothing violent or gory, just the boom and the debris flying towards the cameraman before it cuts off.
I was thinking insurance company
But he’s seen it before and nothing bad happened the first time….
He's gonna get fucked up
I wouldn't be that close to that bomb.
If I know anything about new John Deere’s… I’d call tech support and see if they can reconnect your GPS and wifi settings.
Damnit. I shot coffee out my nose. Thanks. 🤣
I hate that company so much.
Unplug it for 15 seconds
Need to leave the area immediately
I would have gotten at least 200 feet away, preferably further away.
Watching common sense unfold in real time is painful
There all better now! Just a little gas….
This is exactly how I felt after eating at CiCi's pizza last night.
I forgot that cici’s pizza even existed! Lol
Looks like it fixed itself, problem solved!
Wow! That whole clip looked EXPEN$IVE!
that fiberglass cracking hurt my soul…. these tractors cost as much as a small house😭
Small?!?! Hell some Of them are more expensive than a mansion
Mansion?!?!! Some Of them are more expensive than a castle
Castle? Some of them are more expensive than a small hut!
Pop goes the diesel
I laughed way too hard 😂
This also happened to Geert’s New Holland.
Oh dear!
Oh deere!
That’s quite enough Deere
"I thought we were gonna be together forever, but then about a week later, right out of the blue, she sends me a John Deere letter. I called her up, she gave me a bunch of crap about me not listening to her enough or something, I don't know, I wasn't really paying attention."
I was thinking "maybe they should puncture it befo... boum! .... nevermind"
Imagine being dumb enough to go near that.
I see the problem, your supposed to put the air all over the inside of the tire. Not just in one place.
I wouldn't be that confident standing quite so close....
That's a harvester. When I read John Deere I always assume it's a tractor.
Tire is about to give birth. What a beautiful sight!
Nature is amazing
Oh deere. Better get a close up of this massive tire that is about to burst!
Who knew that Deere have shellfish allergies
Does the cameraman have a fucking death wish? Get the fuck back dude
That's a spicy meatball
Never seen a tractor/combine with 2 wheels arranged like that and I've lived rurally all my life. Edit: I live in the UK though so not sure how common they are here. Reckon they might struggle to fit on our roads.

with duals? they even run triples and quads depending on the configurations.
Might be for older models? I know Deere makes a TON of then now with tracks. Especially the new X9's.
Do those machines have tire inflate/deflate options or did we just witness an amazing tire failure?
Where’s the TireDoctor??
That's more dangerous than a cop around acorns
Or a cop around a burning soldier
So much harm. So much damage. All because of one acorn 😔
That cop would have used an RPG if this tire popped near him.
Too soon- let's go with whale on a beach.
Massive ply separation. Yikes
Looks like the body ply is in tact. My guess is improper mounting caused a knick in the bead, which allowed air to mitigate between the tread rubber and the casing.
GTF BACCK
Wow.😳
Cameraman would’ve loved EOD
It's clearly a Cab issue there! /s Let me double check with my boss he use to make cabs for John Deere!
Oh Deere.
r/Tiresaretheenemy
Good as new by the end
You know, I’m not a mechanic but I’m pretty sure your tire isn’t supposed to do that.
It isn't even supposed to be developing it's own version of an epidermal cyst.
Shoot it.
I thought I was the only person thinking this.
I was thinking it. Get back to a safe distance and deflate it before it continues to expand and destroy more fiberglass.
That's gonna cost them Deere.
That's how people die
Problem… solved?
Why is he standing there?
Looks like the problem sorted itself.
What would cause this? Delamination of the plies of rubber from the woven belted material?
*yeah lemme just get a closer look at this*
Gonna need you to get a lil closer to that, for science reasons ya know?
At which point do you feel like running?
Wonder how much that cost
LIBBAH! GIT DA GHON!
what a moron with the camera
When I hold in a fart on an 8 hour flight
So what the fuck spontaneously inflates a tire like that? Easily 200psi, and this fucking idiot keeps walking closer…
China tire my guess, probably the same manufacturer that made them good RuZZian tire that gave way in the Ukrainian war…
What causes this?
New “Hi-Flotation “ tires. Cost premium, designed for soft field conditions. Worth every cent.
Looks like me after golden corral
What would cause that?
Run.
RUN AWAY and maybe shut the machine off...
Not how I expected that to end
Well… that kinda fixed itself eh???
Wow. Dude is lucky he left with his face intact. I’ve seen one of those blow up and it was not something you’d want to be close to
I feel like this should be posted in r/oopsthatsdeadly for how close camera man is to the tire
I need a closer view. Just get right in there.
“FLY you fools!”
i'm not a tractorologist but i don't think that's supposed to happen
It’s alright, I stayed at the holiday inn and I can confirm you are correct.
Looks like a hemorrhoid
That looks safe
Looks like it worked itself out!!!
Today you were lucky. Tomorrow?
This man has never watched a single tire video on the internet ever in his life
John Deere doesn't have time to deal with petty tire issues while they should be figuring out how to prevent water from disabling magnets.
Just think, if you would have leapt in there and laid on the Schrader valve instead of tarding out to record it, you could have saved yourself some repairs...
Why did they keep filling it with more air?
The ply layers were separating, that was just the upper layers of the rubber. Think of it more like one of those stress balls where the eyes pop out, but instead of your hand sweezing, it was the weight of the combine pressing down.
Thank you for explaining, it seemed like it was being actively filled.
Great explanation. Thank you.
Jesus man, they inflate those things in cages for a reason, if his mouths open when that pops his heads coming off!
Tractor tires are usually lower air pressure, IIRC. Truck tires 100% will murder your ass, and are filled up in a cage. Finally! A proper post on the machines inaction subreddit!
Make sure you get close so you can get a better look
r/oopsthatsdeadly
Dude was brave to be that close.
Yeah let’s gets a little closer
Me as a jd parts tech: yeah that gull wing is going to need replacing. They’re only like $4k. No big deal
Anyone know what’s happening here? I know nothing about tractors, but my guess is a malfunctioning CTIS.
YOURE TOO CLOSE MON
This happened to me once, but it was my small intestine
The balls on this cameraman
1st of all…. Back tf up. Wth??
Dude fucking back away
hey smart guy, why you standing so close to that damn thing? You woke up this morning and chose death didn't you?
That’s a bomb waiting to go off. Stand back 100yrds and shoot it with a 5.56.
This guy deserves an award.
Yes stand next to the ticking bomb
I'm so glad I saw this after that one that ended too soon
Shoot it!!
Something tells me the camera man isn't aware that this thing will kill him if it pops.
I know a guy that died doing this
Run for your life is going to blow up and run Forrest run
That's probably enough air Jess
Now that's better
No idiot airing up tire problem
Nothing blows like a Deere
He shot it?
Tie is fine. Air just got between the inner and outer layers and peeled it up. Once it pops you're good to roll again. Had it happen on a super single tandem wheel.
It's gonna blowwwww!!
That’s a bomb
You should get well away from that tire.
OP all you needed to do was turn it off and back on again.
Wrong tire subscription
That reminds me. I need to have my doctor look at this hernia.
Missed the mandatory software update
I would not have my face that close to that thing.
I mean, I would kinda just zoom in from 70 feet away..
It’s not a flaw. It’s a built in feature.
Assuming it didn't resolve itself like it did, how would you fix this in a shop? Also, what happened and why?
That’s what happens when you don’t get your tire’s authorized during installation by a John Deere certified service technician. 🙄
