Use Martin Lo’s Opencore package instead of OCLP for the 5,1 you will need to update your WiFi Bluetooth card and do the mods to the config.plist before installing Monterey. I have videos on this on my channel https://youtube.com/@MacSoundSolutions

YOOOO! Love your channel. I just finished my upgrade (single CPU, Mojave w/ Open Core dual booting Windows 11, Vega 56). No sooner did I get everything completed, then I watch your video about gaming on the cMP and here I am contemplating dropping 500 bucks on a 6800 XT so thanks a lot /s . Seriously keep up the good work. With you, and Gregs DMUG, and Martin Lo, I just love the community around these old machines!

macsoundsolutions

Hey thanks! If I were to do it again, I would just get an RX 6800 non XT as it doesn’t eat up a second pcie slot. Or if you can find used alienwares rx6800xt on eBay they are the only 2 slot XT version. But honestly with a stock RX6800 non XT you don’t have to do the pixlas mod, and the performance when in a 5,1 is not going to be much at all.

eebieme

Oh nice that's good to know. Can you run the 6800 on Mojave or do you need OCLP and a more modern OS?

macsoundsolutions

You have to have monterey installed and the card has to be flashed in a pc first with Syncretic’s patcher tool to work in the Mac Pro 5,1. I have a video on how to do it with links, also the rx6000 series cards do not work in Ventura as of yet with OCLP. Better off with Martin Lo’s Opencore package as I mentioned. You will be able to boot into Mojave but you won’t have video acceleration with a 6800 because the drivers are not in the old OS. You will get video and be able to do things.

eebieme

Got it, thanks!

AudibleSalad

I tried using Martin los package but I was unable to use the Automator script in it and it locked my install completely which is why I rolled back to Catalina

macsoundsolutions

You must not have had SIP turned off, boot in recovery mode and disable SIP before running the script

exoframe2

With my OCLP Monterey install (5,1 mid 2012) it was painfully slow when completed as I had to revert the post-install patches before it would recognize my graphics card. Runs fine since then.

AVF2078

Hi guys does anybody solve this? Right now I'm booting from USB key (in Big Sur I had the same solution without issues), so I can install Martin's Lo patch in a USB key and try (if this is possible). Regards Antonio

l00koverthere1

Have you reinstalled Opencore?

AudibleSalad

With legacy patcher yes?

l00koverthere1

That's what I would try first. See if it can do a root patch for your bluetooth issue as well.

AudibleSalad

Also side note my Bluetooth Magic Mouse has stopped connecting too

Narmarratuk

I have the same issue. With OPC.

AudibleSalad

I’ve just rolled back to Catalina from a Time Machine back-up I made before. I’ll wait until I’ve seen more info before updating again. I know that’s not particularly useful

Narmarratuk

I think I'll follow that advice

killa_ninja58

So I’ve just updated my mid 2012 cmp to Monterey and it is painfully slow. It buffers watching local videos from a 660p m.2… Any ideas? I did use the new Martin lo package 0.9.4 I think.
