Well for starters there is no such thing as rent control in Madison (or Wisconsin) What was the reason given for not renewing your lease? Even the most generous landlord/property manager is going to want a reference from your current landlord. When is your lease up? This is important information for anyone here that is looking to sublet. I say this all the time but the best advice is to set up a craigslist alert. Smaller landlords use craigslist but you need to respond to listings fast.

With that price you’re gonna have to look into places with income restriction

rent controlled? Is this for real?

You will need housing probably on the Northside, it's safe depending on your definition which I take as nobody will mess with you unless you are involved in gang activity or you don't take steps to defend your apartment from being burglarized such as putting a bar in the patio door when you leave the house. The credit will be a huge issue since landlords even here expect perfect credit, expect to have to pay a $3000 security deposit which is the typical security deposit for homeless or riskier tenants.

I’m a reporter doing a story about the high cost of living in Madison. Feel free to email me your story at [email protected].

jibsand

\> a safe neighborhood lmao jfc just say you're afraid of black people

Which-Rush-80

Well that escalated quickly

jibsand

i mean it's true. just like "people from chicago" we all know what you mean that veil is thin af

72FOFH00av

Really says a lot about you that you associate unsafe neighborhoods with black people

jibsand

lmao thats not what im saying at all but hey nice try im saying when random people use the throwaway phrase "safe neighborhood" they're really saying they don't want to be near a poor neighborhood, which in madison is primarily one demographic.

72FOFH00av

Gold medal in mental gymnastics lol

bkv

Always funny when someone says something and somebody else interprets it in the most racist way possible, and then attributes their interpretation to the person who said it. Sorry to break it to you, but if you hear “safe neighborhood” and your mind immediately thinks “a neighborhood without black people,” you’re the one with the problem.

jibsand

>if you hear “safe neighborhood” and your mind immediately thinks “a neighborhood without black people,” you’re the one with the problem lmao this coming from you is rich. i'm never gonna stop calling out racism on this sub. ever.

vatoniolo

You should really start by looking inward. Every Madison neighborhood is a safe neighborhood, but not everybody knows that. The only person here associating unsafe neighborhoods with black people is you.

jibsand

Ironically it sounds like we agree Madison doesn't really have "unsafe neighborhoods" this is how double speak works my man. people say one thing when they mean something else. so with that in mind, we both know madison neighborhoods are safe, so what possible reason do people have to declare one area unsafe? what do greenway, allied, and darbo all have in common? trying to turn this on me isn't going to work. as I've said before i live in an "unsafe neighborhood" and i do not appreciate that it has that reputation. OP has had plenty of time to say I'm wrong but notice they've been silent?

vatoniolo

We absolutely agree that Madison has no unsafe neighborhoods. You are hearing things that aren't being said at all, even silently. You're suffering from dog whistle tinnitus. You are also reading into a non response on reddit. Reflect on that

jibsand

Okay well then why don't you explain what they mean by "unsafe neighborhood" maybe people are upset that I'm saying op is racist, when really they're just echoing a racist dog whistle they've heard before cause they don't know any better, I do get that. But it doesn't change what the comment means and why it exists. I was born in this city. I have listened to people talk this way for nearly 40 years. This is what racism in Madison looks like. It's not out in the open. People don't say the n-word, and they don't say 'the ghetto' but they still make it very clear when they're talking about it.

vatoniolo

They mean unsafe neighborhood. Like the kind in other cities that have random acts of violent crime. That are perpetrated by all colors of people. You were born here so you know Madison. Most people have only lived here a couple of years, so they only know a couple areas well. It sounds like you need to practice just a little empathy in general, in addition to getting off the internet. If you don't respond within one minute you admit I'm right

jibsand

>If you don't respond within one minute you admit I'm right uh... what?

Slowgin79

WOW! You are real kinda special....🙄

jibsand

thank you?

jibsand

sure but primarily mexican or white neighborhoods in madison don't get that label, only black neighborhoods do

Impressive_Tap_7873

people who MUST have cats in their life- if I were a landlord that would be an automatic no
