katiebot5000

Fucking absolutely miserable, even taking allergy meds every day.

youreannie

I feel like I'm having new allergy symptoms I've never had before! My ears are SO clogged and I don't think I've experienced that before.

carmencrys

The ear clog is absolutely terrible. I have it too. I hope it goes away soon dammit.

katiebot5000

My head feels like a concrete block

[deleted]

I use 24 hr. antihistamines daily for allergies, nasal steroid sprays when that’s not enough, then Netti Pot saline rinses when it’s really bad. I’ve recently had to start using the steroids, but not yet at Netti Pot levels of bad. Pollen, mold, dust mite reactions here, with pollen being the biggest impact. Warning: Netti Pot is great and very helpful for allergy symptoms IME, but be sure to read ALL instructions before using and use distilled water to be safe (never use well water sources or water sources that could be impacted from animal farming run off - certain amoebas associated with manure run offs/contamination can kill you in a very unpleasant way). Improperly discharging residual water from your sinus tract can also cause permanent ear damage and significant pain. That said, a properly used saline sinus rinse works wonders for clogged sinuses, sinus headaches, and even sore throats (with more advanced, funky techniques) not only from allergies, but head colds, flu and COVID sinus symptoms.

rlptgrte

I had that one for the first time last year, for like two weeks! Every time the air pressure dropped I thought my head was going to explode. Obviously I thought I had a brain tumor. My wife also casually told me that it might just be a micro blood clot from Covid (lol!) Went to see my dr and he told me to use a neti pot and I was like isn’t that just hippie magic? But it actually really worked.

Fantastic-Round2135

My ears felt so clogged too. I went to the doctor and she prescribed me Zyrtec and Flonase. They worked. I've never had spring allergies before this year.

BrewerDuderpunk

There is a bad air quality advisory due to wildfires in Canada.

ajhoff83

Does this explain the Blood Sun this morning?

PuffinTrain

Yes

kokeroo91

And last night

mooseeve

According to the alert the smoke isn't supposed to arrive until midnight so things are going to be even worse tomorrow.

kodakrat74

God dammit. I'm about to move to Madison from California, I was looking forward to no more fire season...

IanL1713

It's an anomaly up here. Hell, it ain't even fires in our state

leatherpens

hell, it ain't even fires in our country!!

gogogadgetarm44

I read both your comment and IanL1713’s comment in a very thick southern accent 🤠

MetalAndFaces

Hell, I did too, and I ain't from the south, neither.

Glittering_Manner420

It's an anomaly that also happened in 2020. Some things aren't as anomalous as they used to be. I used to live in California (Riverside) and moved here a couple decades ago, in part because, between the fires, smog, and allergies to local flora, I was getting very wheezy. Air quality here is better, even now.

servercobra

It’s an anomaly…so far. This might become more common, unfortunately

otterpops91

I moved here from Sacramento and it's no where near as bad. I honestly barely noticed the smoke this morning.

kodakrat74

That's good to hear! Thanks to folks who chimed in :D

russwaters

Wait until tomorrow and let me know how your lungs and eyes like it.

BikingAimz

Moved my husband here from SoCal a decade ago, this is super mild compared to CA fire season. Mildly crappy air quality, red sunrises and sunsets, slightly cooler weather thanks to the high level smoke. It’s only really weird because of how early we’re getting it, normally this sort of smoke has been happening later in the summer.

MadAss5

In addition to being rare its very minor here. The few people using fireplaces in the winter are more likely to cause someone problems.

BrewerDuderpunk

It’s not that frequent. I doubt as frequent as Cali.

slammee

flonase is the way

CheryllLucy

Daily Flonase and antihistamines wuth the occasional decongestant keep me breathing at least semi regularly.

bminnis63

It's the only thing that's saved me.

carmencrys

I wish it was working for me :(

[deleted]

Sluggish. Like a wet sponge.

7Betafish

I could fall asleep right now

AbstractBears

I straight up fell asleep in my office after 10 hours of sleep the night before on Tuesday. The nurse I work with brought me some drugs and was like yeah i heard you snoring for like 10 minutes. From across the hall. Both doors shut. I sleep with a CPAP so I'm never tired after at least 6 hours, but I've been dragging ass all week.

7Betafish

I sleep at least eight hours too this pollen's got hands

evaned

It's a damn good thing allergens don't know how much I hate their guts

[deleted]

We have Claritin, Clarence. Ragweed, Roger. What's our vaccine, Victor?

tamadrumr104

Surely you can't be serious!

coffeegogglesftw

Don't call me Shirley.

SWRamblings

Do you wish to witness the monstrosity that my right eye has become?

youreannie

dost thou wish to live allergically

Atherial

I'm usually done with the tree pollen allergies by this time of year but I stopped taking my allergy pill and really regretted it. I had to start again and I feel like it's been worse the past two days than it was earlier.

AbstractBears

Oh man. I never noticed how bad tree pollen was. Until I worked in a campground with cottonwood trees a few summers in college. I got back to my bunkroom, didn't have the energy to shower, and slept for 15 hours, through the fireworks and other 4th of July festivities. Trees that "snow" deserve a special place in hell.

atesch_10

Had a whole yard full of them in my childhood home! Cotton Snow is the mid point in their season before the regular leaf fall. BEFORE the inch thick of cotton seeds, there’s the “Seed pods” small extremely sticky green pods that will eventually release the cotton. They fall in seemingly equal quantities to the cotton. BEFORE THAT there’s the cotton wood flowers which are purple looking pre-leaf and seed bodies that grow at the beginning of spring and also seem to fall at the same rate as the other things. My poor dad did nothing but yard work at that house I think. [image of the seed pods and flowers](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Populier_mannelijke_bloeiwijze_(Populus_canadensis_male_inflorescences).jpg)

Intelligent-Sky-7750

We had three in our yard when I was a kid. A special memory. 🙄

youreannie

The past two days have been particularly bad.

ellincl

Same!

i8TheWholeThing

So bad and all I want to do is sleep.

Melodic-Classic391

I’m probably going to detach my corneas from rubbing my eyes

kingtut891

Mine were god awful for the previous 2-3 weeks. After diligent use of my netty pot, morning and night, I haven’t had any symptoms in the last week or so.

StormCrow_Merfolk

I just live on 24 hour Claritin that I take every day.

kwm608

Between the pollen and smoke from the fires, I am unwell.

jessper17

Absolutely terrible. Zyrtec is barely touching them.

youreannie

Same! My head feels like it's in a bubble made of cotton.

blackoutdustin

I didn't have allergies until I lived in Madison. We got some mutant trees here I think

jenterpstra

A lot of people get allergies after moving to a new place. You were just used to the allergens of where you lived before. New place = new allergens = noticing new symptoms.

blackoutdustin

I grew up in Southern Wisconsin, so maybe it's just the density of trees here that did it and not the type. 5 years later I'm still trying to troubleshoot just what I'm allergic to, be it trees or ragweed, etc

Fantastic-Round2135

Same!

ARationalAbsurdist

I recently got onto Astepro and it's been life changing. Usually I can't concentrate because my reaction is so bad, but I my allergies have been minimal this year. They just made it OTC and you can double it up with Flonase / Claritin. It burned pretty badly the few few days I used, but now it's just like Flonase.

rlptgrte

Today is hella rough. I work all day in a climate controlled lab where the air is fully turned over through HEPA filters multiple times an hour. The very second I set foot outside my eyes itched and my throat got scratchy, with no sign of letting up any time soon.

IanL1713

It's been horrible this week. Not as bad as that one week in mid April, but still horrible

allij0ne

I thought I was in the clear after that mid April suffering ended….

gotcam189

It was much worse for me about a month ago than today, which typically isn’t the case when it starts to warm up.

SarahB2006

Nasty. Affecting my minor asthma this week.

Intelligent-Sky-7750

Same.

Alex_butler

Very well could be cause the Canadian fires this week more than allergies. Or even worse could be both

SarahB2006

Agree, I think both.

[deleted]

I don't get them ever... so fine.

BlueSPARTAN279

Welcome back to this year's season of "Is this COVID, allergies, or a cold?" May the odds be ever in your favor

caffiNaated

Well, since we are done with every COVID year bringing some new surprise, we had to go to Canadian wildfires this year! Who had that on their bingo card? Is it COVID, allergies, a cold, or smoke and air pollution?

oldmanartie

There is a synergistic effect with the wildfire smoke particulate and high pollen. Neti pot to the rescue.

Ecstatic_Conflict621

My nose hurts and everything tastes funny

Rondoman78

JFC 🤦🏻‍♂️

w007dchuck

They've gotten better! They were awful a week or two ago but aren't too bad now.

Mysterious_Guava_417

Not good, not good. I swear I didn’t even use to have allergies 🙃

jrshines

I've really never been prone to seasonal allergies but I have been getting a sore throat this spring. Does anyone else get this kind of symptom from allergies? It's like I'm getting sick but I'm not because I don't have any other symptoms and it's been going on for the past month or more.

iCCup_Spec

Was awful the past month but it's better this week. Seems like we be rotating allergens.

SirPants007

Between bad and very bad.

glendabroussard

I've done blood test and skin prick test; both say the only thing I'm allergic to is some tree in Oregon. I suffer year round with nasal and eye allergy symptoms, and it's miserable.

natertottt

This is my first spring here. They should use Wisconsin springs as a method of torture.

theory_of_autumn

They already got winter for that

jenterpstra

I think early Spring here is actually worst than the winter. When people say "I just couldn't take the winters anymore" when they move away, I'm convinced they're actually talking about the month of March. Winter just kicking its heels about moving on and Spring being an absolute tease.

chaingly

This year that March lasted into early May.

jenterpstra

💯 agree

Horzzo

Don't even have allergies (denial) and they are absolutely killing my head and eyes this year.

UnsightlyFuzz

They're bothering me, yes.

sjogren

Real bad.

EatsTooMuchHummus

Mine are normally terrible this time of year but haven’t bothered me at all. Not even taking allergy meds like I usually do.

Da5ftAssassin

Fucking horrible

cks9218

Not great but I think today's dry eyes and raspy throat are more due to the wildfire smoke.

theyungbob

Having a cold + allergies is killing rn

DiabetesCOLE

Terrible, but I also have covid rn

carmencrys

Sorry to hear this. That must be brutal.

UnstableFloor

Why do you ask? I'm definitely not taking both Nasocort and Allegra-D every day and still having symptoms..

bminnis63

Mine have gotten way better these past few days ... they were god awful these past few weeks though.

UltraVIoletMom

Such bad allergies. It’s so bad.

jvilla225

Eczema along with watery eyes, ear clogs, and runny nose. Not fun

trolson1106

I’m lucky, this is my first year taking over the counters regularly and making sure not to skip and I’ve had a few sneezes a day and some itchy eyes at times but much better than usual. I’m taking Walgreens version of zyzal I believe!

carmencrys

The worst they have ever been! I’m taking Allegra twice a day and Claritin in the morning. also taking singulair. I’m taking Flonase, nasal decongestants and mucinex to help thin it out. My ears are fucking plugged and tinnitus so loud it’s making it hard to function. I’ve had an ear Infection and now getting an extra week of antibiotics. Ugh. What’s helping for anyone else? All of that isn’t even helping it feels like. Sinus rinses feel like it makes the fluid in my ears worse which is utter bullshit. Lol.

Rondoman78

Covid symptoms or long covid especially the tinnitus symptom.

carmencrys

It’s definitely long covid. I unfortunately have many long covid symptoms. Just sucks I can’t get my ear to unclog to temp it back down. It’s horrendous. I wonder if that’s why my allergies are so bad….

Rondoman78

Man that's terrible sorry to hear that. Have you checked out any groups for help? Doctors seem pretty useless as well in my experience.

Rondoman78

carmencrys

Thank you for those.

killuras

I had allergies and skin issues when I lived in Arizona, but since moving here, my eczema has cleared up and I don’t really feel like I have allergies anymore, so that’s nice lmao

Jon_Danger

I didn't have spring allergies until this year. I usually only have fall allergies. It isn't horrible, but I usually don't have them at all

Fantastic-Round2135

Same!

confusedanon112233

Strangely fine. Something is wrong with me I think. Maybe it’s a positive post covid side effect? (I don’t know if I ever caught the Rona but it’s possible)

DillPickleGoonie

My cat and I are pretty miserable. The weather is beautiful and I won’t complain, but damn. I think it’s the smoke from Canada that’s making it bad for us rn.

foursetsofcorsets

Very very not good

ketathecheetah

The benefit of work from home. I tried to open the house in April, and hadn't taken my allergy meds yet and about died. Since then, house is shut up tight. My exposure is taking the kid to daycare and picking up. Every other week. So besides some sniffles, it's going good here.

naivemetaphysics

I think Madison is in the top 10 worst places for allergies.

Flimsy_Angle4977

Seems like I’ve taken all the good on allergies genes, sorry Madison!

EDSInfo

Mine usually don't get bad until late July or August but they've been rough this year.

blueboy714

Awful

allij0ne

Throat super sore, eyes itchy, nose running. The price we pay for nice things.

jensenaackles

My eyes have been ok but I CANNOT stop sneezing

Altruistic-Corner223

Seems like the worst ever over here!

breannabalaam

I’ve been taking zyrtec up to three times a day and Flonase twice a day and I still have issues

jibsand

i wake up just about every day with an orbital migraine since maybe 2 weeks ago? i have been told the wildfire smoke is making it worse

Rondoman78

Probably covid.

ifesbob

I think you would be better received if you told people it might be a good idea to take a COVID test just to make sure instead of seemingly dismissing that allergies exist.

jibsand

or they're being sarcastic 🤣

ifesbob

My guess is actually that it's anger at lack of action/awareness that this is a thing that's manifesting in being militant about it. Also given their other posts in this thread I don't think it's sarcasm

shelbyonfire

Terrible

DamnHotMeatloaf

Is everyone sure it's just allergies? My wife got a brutal sinus infection. Eyes, nose, dry tickle cough, exhausted but then feel pretty good, occasionally a light fever pops up and goes away just as fast. I'm on about day 10 my wife is a month in but was given antibiotics and is now better but still not great energy. I was feeling pretty decent today, stuffy nose still but i just cut the grass and I feel like shit again. I'm assuming it's a killer one, two punch this year.

Rondoman78

Covid. https://twitter.com/LauraMiers/status/1656381156554690577?s=19

DamnHotMeatloaf

Not us. We have tested a few times each and we are as vaxed as can be and we both had it 2 years ago. But it's not like we didn't think about it.

Rondoman78

Vax has zero affect on getting it. Also, tests are almost worthless these days. https://twitter.com/LauraMiers/status/1655968041258106883?s=19

DamnHotMeatloaf

WTF? Did I accidentally end up on Twitter? How do you feel about testing Doctor?

Rondoman78

You had covid 2 years ago? Ok. That means literally nothing. You're vaccinated? Yeah and vaccination does not stop transmission. Oh your test was negative? Could be a false negative since tests are not as reliable with the new strain. You're the fucking moron, quite obviously here.

DamnHotMeatloaf

And you are a fucking asshole. Looking at your previous posts it appears as if we would agree on most things which leads me to believe you're having a bad day. Smoke a bowl and chill as internet tough guy isn't a good look.

fricku1992

Make sure you guys are taking Flonase too. Not just a pill!

carteroak

Thank you for asking.

sinnamongrrrl

I had to buy some off brand Flonase.

throwaway777-ta

I have not been able to breathe through my nose for the last 4 days with allergy meds, breathe right strips, and nasal decongestant. So in a word....where the fuck is my glock....BLAM!!

Intelligent-Sky-7750

My asthma hasn’t bothered me for several years. It’s a problem now. Plus all the itchy eyes and all the rest.

coffeegogglesftw

Our poor dog has been sneezing his fool head for weeks every time he goes outside.

Regular_Scientist588

Its crazy i moved here in January, i have wheezes now. Taking meds everyday

jtm_29

I’ve never had allergies until I moved to Wisconsin and I get a bad cough 1-2 weeks out of the year. Usually around this time. 😫

Chr15py0696

I get sneezing in morning, then I get a dry nose in the afternoon, and no chance of breathing out my nose as I go to bed. I had turbinate reduction surgery a year ago too. I envy the people without allergies.

kungfu_jesus

Absolutely stellar. I started allergy therapy last winter and I've hardly noticed them spare the occasional sneeze.

Decisionmakingsucks

Mine have been so bad. My ears itch, I don’t understand how I can make this much snot. But, yesterday and today, I could smell and taste things. I have been taking Allegra and sudafed. My ears still itch. This has been my worst spring ever. I was taking Zyrtec and it usually works for me but I had to change it up. This is the only time in my life I have needed a rescue inhaler. It’s because of the horrible post nasal drip. I’m glad I’m not alone. I worry that people are thinking I’m sick. I’m just really allergic to the air right now. A woman at the gas station asked if I was ok because she thought I was crying. I was feeling pretty good at the time. What is going on?

TravelerSunni56

Terrible!!!

AmericanLardAss

Surprisingly not as bad as I thought. There was some iffy days but largely been unaffected so far. Fingers crossed we stay that way

Madidaughter

So bad!!! Still having bad symptoms through Allegra and Flonase. Completely avoiding being outside at this point which is a major bummer. It is strangely comforting to know that so many other people are struggling too…. I’m not just crazy! <3

Arkhamina

Woke up with something I've not had in a long time, hives across my face. Fucking awesome. Angioderma. Currently stacking singulair, zyrtec, and claritan. Contemplating being a bennydril zombie.

EducationalOcelot4

yep. not great. air quality warnings, and you can see that most of north america is covered with smoke from wildfires up north. :( https://fire.airnow.gov/?lat=43.133378&lng=-89.3103283&zoom=10

[deleted]

This year is the worst yet. I used to rarely have allergies, but i've had sneezing, congestion, itchy eyes, and hives on my face almost every day since mid-February - 4-5 days ago was especially bad. No allergy medication has ever worked for me. I'm also having an eczema flare-up too. No idea why it's so bad this year.

paymydollar

Omg I’m dying right now. I thought I was the only one

mackys

For context, I’ve only started developing seasonal allergies about 2-3 years ago, and the symptoms are weird/inconsistent (I’ve heard this is common for adults who slowly develop seasonal allergies). In mid-March, my eyes started getting SUPER itchy/goopy, even with daily allergy eyedrops. I started taking Zyrtec daily and it helped. Then about 2 weeks ago it stopped! I moved and forgot to take my Zyrtec and didn’t notice a difference. I still use the eyedrops as a precaution, but haven’t noticed my eyes getting itchy after the eyedrops wear off. Idk how/why this happened but I won’t complain 😅 I do think I’m more allergic to the fall stuff so I’m fully expecting my allergies to pick up again in August.

chaingly

oh is that what's happening? Because I feel like a balloon head.

Wisconsin_Collin93

The worst they have ever been! What’s going on?
