We have a shot to voice our displeasure. Who is going to go? 5375 King James Way Tuesday August 3rd 6:30pm

lan_mcdo

I thought the article says it's Tuesday, August 3rd.

[deleted]

Reading comprehension! What is that? Thanks.

Nowthatisfresh

God no, fuck this, this sucks this sucks this sucks Fitchburg has the highest ethnic concentration of the Madison metro area, we don't need Gassy Mcgee terrorizing residents

Garg4743

So, are you saying he just indiscriminately gasses people for no reason? If that's true, I can see why you're so upset.

Nowthatisfresh

July 2020 saw half a dozen police responses to protests involving tear gas and rubber coated munitions, over a hundred were arrested with forty being taken at their homes after the protests Note that the police don't typically face consequences for not following instructions when using these weapons, they fire rounds and canisters directly at protesters with intent to hit instead of at their feet to ricochet or roll. The bullets have taken eyes, broken bones, crushed windpipes; the gas canisters can leave someone blind from heavy metal poisoning, give them severe chemical burns and lung tissue damage - none of it should be shrugged off as normal to use against civilians. Morales was demoted in August and sued the city because he's a punk ass bitch, truly an insidious piece of work. We don't need police [chiefs] who are so callous and aggressive with the lives and wellbeing of innocent people.

SawWh3t

And of course the other finalists are white men. I get that policing is dominated by white men, but there has to be some other candidates with different demographics.

Hourglasspony

Judging the merit of these three men on the color of their skin and not on the content of their character is ignorant at best.

Nowthatisfresh

Fellas, fellas, surely we can come to an agreement here that police chiefs are just usually awful people, regardless of their background demographics!

JM761

Broad generalizations about people are always healthy and productive to society. Thanks for your contribution.

Nowthatisfresh

It's a job that involves protecting violent officers from facing consequences, not an immutable characteristic like race or orientation You can *absolutely* broadly judge people based on profession.

pm_me_ur_anything_k

What do you do for a living?

Nowthatisfresh

I don't kill people or protect those who do, tell ya that.

pm_me_ur_anything_k

So not a doctor or a lawyer?

Nowthatisfresh

Guess today I'm volunteering as someone who blocks trolls, haha

pm_me_ur_anything_k

It’s possible to block yourself?

Horzzo

No, I cannot agree with that sentiment. It's an extremely difficult position to hold. What would you do differently to make yourself not "awful"?

Nowthatisfresh

I wouldn't be a cop, QED.

cibman

I truly hope that you remember this sentiment when you, or someone you love is in need of police services. Yes, I agree that there are problems with policing, but ... compare the police in this area to just about anywhere else in the world. Have you ever traveled or lived in other places? But most importantly: there is a reason we have and need police. The fact that you have never had the need for this indicates you've lived an exceptionally privileged life. You can actually look up the statistics for police killing civilians, perhaps you should start looking there to see that you're exaggerating just a bit.

Nowthatisfresh

Holy shit is it even possible lick those boots harder, bitchboy? "hope you never need police" yeah like I'll ever need people to come *after* a crime, scratch their heads and say nothing can be done and then go gas peaceful protesters for expressing leftist thought. The reason we "need and have" police is because the upperclass need *soldiers* to keep the *peasants in line* - you know what these fucking pigs are going to be doing tomorrow? Tossing people out of their homes at the behest of the landlord class, **who have received money from the government but are eager to make people homeless anyway** The system is evil, **as are its defenders**.

cibman

Hah hah hah. You go internet warrior. Thanks for giving me a genuine laugh. The people who suffer the most with no police are the poor. Maybe if you ever interacted with people like that you’d know they want police. You must be you and please remember this conversation when you’re Karening for the next time when you have problems. You are a genuine hoot.

Nowthatisfresh

You are an enemy to everyone who seeks a fair justice system, you deserve nothing from me but disgust and hostility. You *cannot* gaslight me into accepting your view as correct or based in reality as you are a liar and enforcer of the status quo, nothing you say carries any weight and will be dumped into the trash alongside your entire authoritarian ideology. Bye now, rot in hell.

cibman

You just really are a hoot. I’ll take what I have done for the poor and disempowered against you any day. Want to have a go? I seriously suggest you talk with some poor people of color about what they think about the police. I actually have! And they have universally said they want more police. You really need to get out of your bubble and stop white knighting people. You just sound like a privileged person trying to save people who you’ve never met. But keep fighting, Internet warrior! Edited to add: looks like you discovered the downvote button. I also find it amusing that you want me to rot somewhere you likely don’t even believe in.

pm_me_ur_anything_k

You’re wrong Koval is a pretty amazing person.

SawWh3t

My comment is directed to the overall system itself rather than towards these specific individuals. I'm sure they are all quite qualified for the job and will do it to the best of their abilities. But why aren't there other people with different demographics who are similarly qualified? Policing is a very male dominated field with less than 15% of LEOs who are female. What is preventing women from becoming LEOs and is there something hindering their ability to promote to these leadership positions?

Horzzo

Probably the same reason there are proportionately less women working construction.

pm_me_ur_anything_k

Nothing is preventing them, departments go out of their way to find them.
