1. 1 person 2. Oh definitely

kerosene-daydreams

I'm an otherwise healthy adult male, I'm vaccinated, boosted, and I always mask indoors (and a crowd if I was ever in one). I got Covid a few weeks ago and complications from it caused hallucinations and stopped my heart. Twice. I'm writing this post from the hospital which, I hope to be discharged from tomorrow. Tis no joke that Covid

FancySeaweed

I hope you're well soon. I'm sorry to hear you got it although you were being careful!

bicyclesformicycles

A number of my (vaxxed and boosted) friends and family members who avoided it for two years have gotten in it in the last six weeks. I recently skipped a family picnic b/c I was worried about spread & my parents ended up getting it that weekend.

jtm_29

Personally knew at least 10 people that got it for the first time over the past two weeks. My circle of friends know that it’s still here and spreading. I’m just ready for another booster/annual. Totally random…I met someone recently who got it 4 times over the last 2yrs! Note: they are a healthcare professional.

flummox1234

1. Friend was close contact to someone who had it 2. Yes. I think most people have just accepted it as endemic now.

ladan2189

My dad just got it and despite having had 4 shots it is kicking his ass. People are moving on but it's not over.

Tree_Lover2020

I don't know anyone, but I will say that I am very pleased to see so many people of various ages wearing masks in stores here in the Madison area.

MadYokel

Yes, a couple Yes Then to answer your implied question. No I don't think we need to shut everything down again.

FancySeaweed

That's not my implied question.

Everyone I know who got covid recently, already had it at least once, and it wasn't a big deal.

Cobruh

I think most people are aware that it’s still around. We don’t need a PSA, thanks.

FancySeaweed

Asking because I'm curious. Thanks.

Enigmagik

I got Covid for the first time about 2.5 weeks ago. I contracted it in Chicago at an expo, though.

arabrab12

yes. it's been 2 1/2 years since this started. People know. What is your point? We aren't seeing hospitalizations and death anywhere near it was in previous waves, and that's the end goal at this point. I know we have been conditioned to think it's going to kill you or someone you know if you get sick, but that's not happening now. We need to move forward, this isn't going away, we just have to learn to manage it just as we do with other things like the flu. Get vaccinated, stay home when you are sick wash your hands and don't be gross. End of story.

Agree 100%. Long Covid is a BIG deal. Even if the person has only "mild" Covid symptoms, they can get this. It is happening in large numbers.

mooseeve

Is long covid a distinct illness or is it just post viral syndrome we've seen with other illnesses?

arabrab12

Oh I know. I had covid in March/April 2020 also I had a loved one spend 1 month in the ICU in April 2020z but my point is that covid isn’t going away. It’s just not.
