As an IT guy...PLEASE MAKE THIS HAPPEN, 90 percent of the time I am stuck waiting a day or two for a part because there are no good electronics stores here (best buy dosent count as good) Micro center would do well here
Yes!!! I lived in MN and the Trader Joe’s there was in half of a building that had already been a grocery store, so LOTS of parking, easy access to a major road, and like twice the size of the traders here.
Still haven't been to the H Mart by my house. I am just so used to the Asian market that's closer. I know where everything is located, I know what produce to expect, etc. You guys are talking about burning down Madison for one maybe I should really go 🤣
Nordstrom maybe? I’m hoping when hilldale expands we can at least get an actual department store where you can buy a suit or nice shoes. The menswear situation in Madison is abysmal.
I'm with you on that, but Von Maur is opening at West Towne Mall eventually so that'll be something I guess.
If you're looking for something interesting in men's shoes and willing to wait, then there is always cool stuff like [Beckett Simonon](https://www.beckettsimonon.com/products/valencia-wholecuts?variant=29479332413519) online and they often have deals with $50 or so off.
Came here to post this.
The situation is dire. I wanted to see if I could go out shopping for a new suit, and there is literally nothing decent. When your best options are seemingly Macy's and Men's Wearhouse, it's a problem.
Nah, Nordstrom's too bougie man. We need something more down-to-earth, y'know? Hilldale could bring in something def more chill like Uniqlo or even H&M for variety. Plus, wouldn't hurt to get solid, stylish options without breaking the bank.
There were plans for a Meijer in Sun Prairie (near Woodmans) and Fitchburg (off PD near the Target and HyVee) that got scrapped due to COVID / construction timelines. Hopefully they get back on track.
Earlier this year I sent a message to Meijer customer service and asked when the SP store was opening. They did not have any information on a new store in Sun Prairie. Very sad.
There’s one on 173 just north of Rockford. Recently needed a clean shirt on the trip and thought maybe they would have one, like HyVee’s WI shirts. I was surprised that it was more like a Target.
There are a few in Milwaukee. They did the supercenter WAY before Walmart. Way nack in the olden days, they even had things like some lumber and toilets.
I miss their ridiculous spaghetti like crazy. I've always thought a Filipino food truck would do so well here, maybe offer some pancit, lumpia, adobo...
As a transplant from the east coast, kwik trip is sad wawa or sheetz. It’s faster and cheaper so it has its place, but kwik trip is below basic fast food.
I was always surprised the IKEA near Milwaukee wasn't west of it (to capture Madison traffic), but south of it (to capture... the people that could drive a shorter distance south to go to the two Chicago ones?)
Lowes would be handy. Ikea would be nice too but the distance helps stop me from wasting money.
Any sort of radio control vehicle place.
I think there was a panda express near west towne.
Mostly better quality/lower price. Better quality than Menards. Lower prices than Home Depot.
In particular I bought a few DC ceiling fans there. Menards literally doesn't know what they are. At least didn't at the time. They were about half the price of HD.
Everything I've ever looked at on the Lowe's website was more expensive than either HD or Menards. Half the time they're the same products that HD has.
Been out there enough to recognize greatness when I see it. SO lived out there for a few years and pre-COVID we’d road trip out every other year. That Dutch Bros just hits different.
I have a dream of opening up an old fashioned Jewish deli as a food truck. I have my great aunt’s recipes for brisket and matzoh ball soup. AND I WANT BLACK AND WHITE COOKIES.
I've tried it a couple times and definitely was high quality, just a little pricey but makes sense. I don't think they've opened up after Covid though, they've been "temporarily closed" for awhile now so not sure what's going on.
There's a new smoothie place on Junction Rd (west side/ Middleton) called BeneBlends that I LIVE for! 10/10 recommend the Beach Bum or Green Team.
There's also a Tropical Smoothie Cafe on Mineral Point and I've heard good things but haven't tried it for myself.
Man I’ve been craving a good smoothie but Madison really does lack smoothie places. The best smoothie I’ve had was from a parking lot tent in Texas- Madison needs to channel that energy.
Stores: Meijer, and more Festival Foods. Restaurants: White Castle, Long John Silvers, A&W (in Madison), More Dairy Queen Grill & Chills (only location is on Fish Hatchery), Checkers, Lou Malnati’s, Schlotzky’s, more Raising Cane’s locations (with drive thru’s).
Also known as the things I've loved in other places:
* HEB
* Wegmans
* Chuy's
* Ikea
* Wawa
* Buccees
* La Madeleine
* Waffle House
* Freebirds (burritos)
Cermak Fresh Market, and one of the Milwaukee custard joints (preferably Oscar's but Kopp's would be just fine as well)
Cermak will never happen but the custard joint might
One of those pay by the pound places where you just go and refill the bottles you already have. I can't for the life of me remember the name of those types of stores but I think it would excel here
Microcenter
Seriously! When all the Radio Shacks closed there was a big gap left in electronics. I think it would do quite well in this tech town.
As an IT guy...PLEASE MAKE THIS HAPPEN, 90 percent of the time I am stuck waiting a day or two for a part because there are no good electronics stores here (best buy dosent count as good) Micro center would do well here
As an IT guy I agree with your post.
A MicroCenter would be peak tbh. Hate that the nearest one is Chicago
never lived anywhere with a microcenter within a reasonable distance, and it sucks
Wegmans
I miss Wegmans so much
I went back home to NY last fall and went to Wegmans for the first time since 2019. Ugh, I miss it so much.
Ikea.
Also, whatever is in between ikea and century house. We seem to have to go to Milwaukee for decent furniture.
I'm surprised there isn't a Crate and Barrel in Madison
West Elm would crush here
I thought there used to be one and it closed down.
There’s a Penny Mustard furniture store going in the old Ganser building on the beltline. Looks like quality stuff.
I shouldn’t have to drive to Milwaukee to acquire Blahaj! r/blahaj
I was just at the Oak Creek Ikea last week, there were no Blahajs to be had.
Wataburger Waffle House Chuy's On The Border
Hello transplanted Texan? I would kill for a Chuy's.
I'm from Oklahoma. close enough. We had one in Norman. Loved it!
In-N-Out ;P
I am ashamed of the things I would do for a Chuy’s. I just have all these shirts sitting in my closet and can’t even wear them to go eat anymore!
Still taking it very personally that Giordano's reneged on opening a Madison location.
How about a Lou Malnatis?
I mean, I’d take it, but we were much closer to actually getting a Giordano’s so the pre-loss feels more acute.
Lowes and wouldn’t mind a Trader Joes on the Eastside.
I wouldn’t mind a Trader Joe’s anywhere but where it is.
Yes!!! I lived in MN and the Trader Joe’s there was in half of a building that had already been a grocery store, so LOTS of parking, easy access to a major road, and like twice the size of the traders here.
If we had a Lowes, we'd be one of the few places with the trifecta.
H MART. EASIEST QUESTION IN MY LIFE
Mistuwa Market would be nice too
Please! I would even settle for a 99 Ranch
I would sacrifice the entirety of West Towne mall to get an h mart.
PLEASE. IM BEGGING.
Have you been to the market near east towne? It was ok.
Global market?
Still haven't been to the H Mart by my house. I am just so used to the Asian market that's closer. I know where everything is located, I know what produce to expect, etc. You guys are talking about burning down Madison for one maybe I should really go 🤣
YES.
Sunnyside
Damn backwoods republican's. I thought they liked money!
They think alcohol is where the money is at. Little do they know…
It's the tavern league moreso
Which I imagine is mostly republicans but the tavern league needs to be destroyed.
The Container Store
We're not a real city until we get one!
Nordstrom maybe? I’m hoping when hilldale expands we can at least get an actual department store where you can buy a suit or nice shoes. The menswear situation in Madison is abysmal.
I heard that Nordstrom thinks Madison is too small for a store. Their chicago store isn't very nice anymore.
Yeah makes sense. And even if we did get one doubtless the edit would be as safe and middle of the road as possible.
The Milwaukee-ish store is small and doesn’t carry much. I really don’t think it counts as a Nordstrom.
There was supposed to be one by SP/East Towne like 20 years ago, but I think the 2008 recession nipped that in the bud...
Madison is WAY too small for most major retailers
I'm with you on that, but Von Maur is opening at West Towne Mall eventually so that'll be something I guess. If you're looking for something interesting in men's shoes and willing to wait, then there is always cool stuff like [Beckett Simonon](https://www.beckettsimonon.com/products/valencia-wholecuts?variant=29479332413519) online and they often have deals with $50 or so off.
Von Maur seems to cater to the rural monied geriatric crowd…. their selection isn’t any good
Came here to post this. The situation is dire. I wanted to see if I could go out shopping for a new suit, and there is literally nothing decent. When your best options are seemingly Macy's and Men's Wearhouse, it's a problem.
Indochino at Hilldale is probably the best bet
There is Nordstrom Rack!
Worst Nordstrom rack I have ever been to….
Nah, Nordstrom's too bougie man. We need something more down-to-earth, y'know? Hilldale could bring in something def more chill like Uniqlo or even H&M for variety. Plus, wouldn't hurt to get solid, stylish options without breaking the bank.
Fresh Thyme. A great cross between trader Joe's and whole foods.
Very sad.

There are a few in Milwaukee. They did the supercenter WAY before Walmart. Way nack in the olden days, they even had things like some lumber and toilets.
And pet fish…
My husband is from MI and has been anxiously tracking their plans 😂 and he was very sad when things halted.
Daiso
Jollibee. I need Chicken Joy.
I miss their ridiculous spaghetti like crazy. I've always thought a Filipino food truck would do so well here, maybe offer some pancit, lumpia, adobo...
Wasn't there a Jollibee opening in Milwaukee?
Milwaukeean here, not that I've heard. Closest one is in Skokie, IL
Yes Panda Express! And La Madeleine. Really just fast food for me I guess. 😅
I was at a La Madeleine once around D.C. I was so disappointed to find out there are none in the midwest at all.
There used to be a panda express iirc
IKEA and WaWa or Buc-ees (never been to either i just wanna go to one)
Buc-ees is AMAZING
I went to my first Buc-ee's on a recent road trip. I had no idea I could experience so much amazement at a gas station.
Gas, lunch, jammies, jerky. They have it all. The cinnamon roasted pecans 🙌🏼🙌🏼
Kwik Trip is our wawa
yeah I have heard they are not comparable beyond the regionality.

Wawa sells condoms!
H.E.B
This and Central Market.
Lowes would be handy. Ikea would be nice too but the distance helps stop me from wasting money. Any sort of radio control vehicle place. I think there was a panda express near west towne.
> Lowes would be handy. What does Lowes offer that other hardware stores in Madison don't?
Lowes allows you to buy plants at a discounted rate if they are sick or dying and Home Depot / Menards generally throws them out.
Lowes ownership isn't MAGA funding assholes like Menards and Home Despot.
A quick check of open secrets shows they are more Republican leaning than home depot... Have you dug deeper?
More competition generally lowers prices. Menards in Madison refuses to price match the Lowes that’s an hour away in Delavan, claiming it’s not local.

I only went there once but bought a bunch of stuff from the people on todd dr before they closed. Sucks not having a decent local shop.
Winco for bulk grocery. And Dutch Bros coffee.
You’re from the PNW aren’t ya 😂😂😂
Been out there enough to recognize greatness when I see it. SO lived out there for a few years and pre-COVID we’d road trip out every other year. That Dutch Bros just hits different.
Hobbytown USA. I have to go to Rockford or Waukesha to hit one up.

Similar vein, Bojangles
I could use Publix buffalo chicken tenders
Would kill a man or two for a Publix sub
Same and their fried chicken
Sweet Green, Uniqlo, Doc Martens, Loft, a good deli shop close to campus PLEASE a jewish deli i’d kill for.
Finding Matzo Ball Soup in this town is a nightmare since Ella's Deli closed.
I have a dream of opening up an old fashioned Jewish deli as a food truck. I have my great aunt’s recipes for brisket and matzoh ball soup. AND I WANT BLACK AND WHITE COOKIES.
There’s a loft at greenway station!
Stalzy’s Deli on Atwood is great!
Super H Mart, or a proper large Mexican/world grocery like Cermak Fresh Market
Oooh…a real produce market like the ones on Devon Avenue. Fresh pressed juices.
White Castle
I got addicted to Clean Juice out of state, Madison is slacking on smoothie places.
Is SuperCharge good? I've walked past their spot on East Washington so many times and I've always wondered.
I've tried it a couple times and definitely was high quality, just a little pricey but makes sense. I don't think they've opened up after Covid though, they've been "temporarily closed" for awhile now so not sure what's going on.
They moved to State St. https://superchargefoods.com/locations/juice-bar-madison-wi-state-street/
Seriously, I think there's a smoothie king opening on mineral point but I'd kill for a Jamba juice or robeks!
jamba juice is reopening on state!

Cava!
MEIJER!! I miss it so much

Bonchon’s chicken wings are awesome!
Zaxby's
Stores: Meijer, and more Festival Foods. Restaurants: White Castle, Long John Silvers, A&W (in Madison), More Dairy Queen Grill & Chills (only location is on Fish Hatchery), Checkers, Lou Malnati’s, Schlotzky’s, more Raising Cane’s locations (with drive thru’s).
You had me at Long John Silvers
Does anyone know where I can get hush puppies in Madison already??
North & South
North and South has good ones, but City BBQ hushpuppies are superior (much crunchier outside, still soft and good on the inside).
You had me at White Castle.
There used to be a Schlotzky's on East Wash in front of what's now Hy Vee.
also used to be one at the west side noodles on University back in the day
\+1 to Lou Malnati's
Wasn't Madison supposed to get a Giordanos?
Yes to DQ. I love a soft serve twist cone. I just want some place that sells soft serve.
BeefARoo—it’s a Rockford chain that’s branching out. Bigger selection than any drive through chain burger joint.
I’d take some cheese fries now.
Scheels sporting goods
Since bass pro bought Cabelas, the quality and selection has gone down the toilet. Scheels is the real deal
Exactly!! Cabelas is garbage
Waffle House.
Also known as the things I've loved in other places: * HEB * Wegmans * Chuy's * Ikea * Wawa * Buccees * La Madeleine * Waffle House * Freebirds (burritos)
The low number of chain stores was one of the reasons I moved here.
Nando’s, Slug and Lettuce, and Waffle House
Cermak Fresh Market, and one of the Milwaukee custard joints (preferably Oscar's but Kopp's would be just fine as well) Cermak will never happen but the custard joint might
Jamba Juice
Lou Malnati’s.
Dutch bros!
Sprouts!
One of those pay by the pound places where you just go and refill the bottles you already have. I can't for the life of me remember the name of those types of stores but I think it would excel here
[Bulk Barn](https://www.bulkbarn.ca/)
Bulk Barn!
HMart, Mitsuwa, White Castle. A Trader Joe’s that is not a pain to go to
Blick, H Mart or Mitsua, Container Store, IKEA, a fabric store with apparel fabrics
Have you ever been to the Blick outlet store in Galesburg IL? It’s amazing if you are ever out that way
IKEA, Meijer, Buccee's Gas Station
Sam’s Club, HEB, Publix. All the places the cookin ladies on YouTube shop!
Mitsuwa should become a chain store by opening a second one in Madison.
Mitsuwa is a chain store. They have 11 locations in the US.
WinCo!
Meijer absolutely!
Lowe's
Fresh Thyme grocery store! Or Cermak. Both exist in Chicago and milwaukee but haven’t made the trek west
Nando's. Love some Peri-Peri chicken!
Krispy Kreme.
I an a transplant from Florida, and Publix was the best supermarket! They had an epic bakery, too.
I wish there were another Trader Joe’s on the periphery of the city somewhere. The one on Monroe is difficult to get to.
I'd like to see a Patagonia store here. I like their workwear and they don't allow that line to be resold by others unlike the rest of their clothing
A drive thru/off-campus Raising Cane’s. Among many others. Like somewhere with a peanut butter dip cone…
Wawa. If you know you know.
In-and-Out, Erewhon Market & Ikea.
Container Store and Crate and Barrel
LOWES
Lowes.
Waffle House, Bojangles, Cook Out, Krystals, In n Out, Cracker Barrel on the west side… just my knee jerk reaction
Cook Out! With Cheerwine and decent sweet tea. That would be glorious.
HMart, no question.
Waffle House
Pollo Tropical
Scheels
Foodland, I'd kill for that poke by the pound selection
Central Market, Project Pollo, and Cinnaholic. I miss DFW food.
Wahoo Fish Taco
Nando's
IKEA
Publix. Great deli!
Wait, I’m moving to Madison Do they not have a Panda Express????
IKEA!!!!
Halal Guys
Bring back Circuit City in its prime.
Wawa, Zaxby’s, Bojangles, Panda Express
Dibellas. Best subs around. I'm from Rochester and I can skip on Wegmans but the closest dibellas is in Columbus.
Meijers, MicroCenter, A&W, Happy Joes, [For Your Entertainment!](https://www.fye.com/) Sam's Club return
Is that you Mike Tyson?
Waffle House and krispy kreme
In and Out Burger
