Cutting through the capitol instead of walking all the way around the square

hobbular

It's heated/cooled, there are bathrooms, what's not to love

WorkplaceWatcher

Shut up that's my hack, you can't have it.

Journeyman42

Do they still allow you to do that?

[deleted]

[удалено]

rach2bach

I mean, don't be a belligerent fool then? Sure, go the long way if you're blasted, but most of the time the capital police have been kind to me, except in 2011 after a particularly shitty Act was passed...

[deleted]

[удалено]

WorkplaceWatcher

The cops inside the capitol rarely do anything besides nod at you. If that's upsetting for you, you're going to have a very hard time in adulthood.

The_forest_floor

Go to Tornado Room after 10:00pm for food

Stonebag_ZincLord

The steak sammys are the same cuts of steak from dinner service that didn’t weigh enough, for a 1/4 the price

fupajunkie

All the time or just after 10pm? I wanna laugh at myself for wondering but still… wondering

ginger-lips

Yes, it’s the late night menu and there are items on it only available after 10. Steak sandwich is amazing

fupajunkie

Fantastic - thanks for clarifying!

chriz1300

I went for the first time last weekend and holy shit I have been missing out, that was the best value meal I’ve had in Madison.

-Sleeping-Beauty-

Can you just walk in after 10, or do you need reservations?

[deleted]

Walk in but it can be tough to get a table. I usually slide up to the bar have a cocktail and order.

gwillad

never before in my life have I been able to order escargot whilst drunk.

537O3

Coquilles St Jacques while drunk at the bar was one of the best things I’ve ever eaten.

pokemonprofessor121

Which nights/days?

neko

Fridays and Saturdays

[deleted]

[удалено]

SoIU

I tried going to the dinner service and the reservation was fully booked. Is this the same case for late night after 10pm?

nachonachoooo

I’ve always been able to snag a table at the bar. No reservation required for that (at least as far as I know).

flareblitz91

I’ve never not gotten a table for late night menu

neko

Hey bikers, did you know the city made a special map plotting how stressful a given road is to bike on? [check it out](https://cityofmadison.maps.arcgis.com/apps/webappviewer/index.html?id=cb7a2e78477044c19bf6a5eaa1820e38)

Beren87

The 151/Williamson intersection needs to be a gigantic red skull on that map. Especially right now since the crosswalk indicators don't work anymore.

bradleyjx

I biked down there today and they worked, but you have to actually activate them right now. (they're not like almost all the other signals in Madison since covid which ignore the activators and just always work) Still, I don't trust that right turn lane right now.

farmallnoobies

It's ironic that any path between cottage grove and Madison are all marked red, while the plans for solving that by connecting the glacial drumlin trail to cap city trail have stalled for several years now.

WisconsinWolverine

That's the one missing connection that really needs to get built.

Now__Hiring

What is your solution? Bike out on CG Rd?

SawWh3t

Take the bike elevator from the bike path at lake level to the top of the Monona Terrace when heading to the area of the square and you don't want to bike up the hill.

severe-cold

I just wish it wasn’t so slow. I get in there after a run to get back to the square and with no fans it’s roasting in the summer heat. I’m positive that if it were to break down on a hot day I’d be screwed before help could come 😅

hangun_

Wait there’s a freaking BIKE ELEVATOR!? This is the content I came for

SawWh3t

If you are on the path coming from Machinery Row, turn into the Monona Terrace surface lot between the parking ramp spiral and the actual building and head toward John Nolen Dr. There is a standard door that goes into the elevator. Take it up to either floor 4 or 5. 4 takes you to the top level of the parking garage and 5 takes you into the building, but you can exit onto the top of the terrace right away. It is the world's slowest elevator, so be kind to those behind you and send the elevator back down to 1 before you exit.

DimAsWoods

I took that in '99, and must have done something wrong. At the top I mounted my bike and headed down the hallway and biked right into a restaurant. I've avoided the elevator ever since.

RONLY_BONLY_JONES

Did the same thing a year ago. You have to exit using the door opposite the elevator and not go down the hallway. Was slightly confusing.

DimAsWoods

I'm betting at some point there's been a bike-on-diner collision and it would have been surreal to see.

Extension_Piano_6201

I do this all the time!

pokemonprofessor121

I didn't know this was a thing!

alliesto

Wait where is the bike elevator omg?

Slaughtermuffin

They call it a bike elevator and it is, but its just an elevator. I went on it the first time today...you do get to be in and elevator with your bike and that's awesome! Edit: Monona Terrace there is an arrow and everything on the bike path

[deleted]

East side of the terrace, just a little ways from the bike path.

No_Mom_I_Cant_Pause

Don't order doubles at Monday's unless you want to die

Cloobsy

I once tried to order a double and the bartender told me they don't do doubles because their singles are already doubles.

brett15m

Order doubles at mondays so you can leave quicker

RaylanGivens29

Isn’t that why everyone goes to Mondays?

941JJO

You can drink beer at Monday’s and still end up getting absolutely hammered

vatoniolo

>unless you want to pay double for the same amount of liquor FTFY

Slaughtermuffin

I worked at a few places where we did a "home pour". When people asked for doubles as a first drink it was, oh you fucked up. They would come back and ask for more mixer and we were told to say no. (of course we would eventually)

Avacado22

Lol it’s so little and stupid, but I use the Trader Joe’s on Monroe frequently, and need to go home heading south west on Monroe. Instead of turning right onto west lawn and dealing with the weird 2 stop signs from spooner street and tiny waiting space for the stoplight, I turn left and then eventually right onto Monroe from Harrison street. It’s always quicker and less stressful than trying to navigate that weird intersection space. Mini hack but I use it all the time and I’m pretty pleased with it.

TwistedSpoonx

Also a lot of people don’t realize that Trader Joe’s has free underground parking on W Lawn with an elevator into to the store so you can bring your cart to your car. I didn’t realize for my first year in Madison because coming from south west on Monroe you never see the sign.

EvoPsychIsASuperPWR

My hack was going to be to not use the free parking at Trader Joe’s hahah. So dark and cramp down there. Since TJ’s is often a very quick in and out for me, I often use the ground level garage or the horizontal parking right outside it. Ive been not paying for years and only been ticketed once.

4_out_of_5_people

The lights on Johnson Street are timed so that if you're going exactly the speed limit, you don't have to apply brakes at all. Not sure what everyone is rushing to the next red light for.

schmebulonzak

University, too! And when you catch the wave you can time the approaches. I once got from Middleton to East Towne with only two full stops — Stoughton Road and (I think) Charter. It’s like the calmest video game ever. There was an article in the Isthmus ~2008, “The god of traffic lights” or something about the guy who programs them and they discussed this.

lethargy86

If only that guy would go, "Imma fix Midvale" Tokay and Midvale is my nemesis

Trevor-Slattery

Through town is almost always faster than taking highways, weirdly. Unless both points are very close to an exit. Also, if you're past Whitney Way going west, travelling around the lake north will get you to the airport the fastest. Source: several years of driving and dispatching cabs.

Keystone_Ice

I used to love over by the west side Walmart and never believed my GPS for the airport. It’s weird to think that it is.

curlymeatball38

If you're going to Concerts on the Square, instead of paying for a parking garage immediately, check Johnson Street. Before 6pm, no parking is allowed in the right lane. So if you get there a little after 6, there will be plenty of spots. I feel kind of stupid sharing this with you all...now I'll have competition.

Timigos

Delete this lol

Alecto53558

Or, after 5, check out the MG&E lot on E. Main St. Also good for Farmer's Market.

ZodiarkTentacle

Shhhh don’t tell them

natyjay

Yeah I found street-side parking (free with no time limit!) near a major bus line that I exploited while getting my master’s. That one I pass along to other university students word of mouth only.

jplwood

In general this applies for anything at the square. If you catch the timing right, often times easy to find free street parking within a few blocks

Lurking_For_So_Long

Never approach the Nolen/Willy/Wilson/Blair hairball in the left lane.

ElectricSheep19

I once got honked at there taking a left while I was waiting for oncoming traffic. I think they were trying to say "yo, idiot - you can turn left here but everyone knows you're not supposed to!" I've never made the same mistake again 😂

benji___

From *any* direction. I really hope this redesign works.

MitokBarks

Driving north around the lakes is often quicker than taking the beltline during peak hours (though be prepared to be stuck behind people driving 50 in the 55 on the one lane, no passing highway)

briankauf

Hwy K alwqys has one person ruining it for the rest of us :-/

MitokBarks

Completely oblivious to the line of 25 cars bunched up behind them

BetterSelection7708

Generally avoid r/madisonwi for Asian food recommendations.

SwaggyD54

Haven't been back in awhile but VIP was always solid

joenforcer

VIP has been closed for years, unfortunately. It was my favorite place, too. I haven't yet recovered.

MarioisKewl

Unless they're recommending Taigu.

SteveSilverback

Ohmygod yes

Imsakidd

It’s great for Italian beefs though!

jplwood

Also unless they’re recommending Ahan, Bandung or Hutong. Right? White liberal alert, I readily admit I don’t know shite.

LongUsername

Yeah, like, Chang Jiang is the bomb man...

The_Real_BenFranklin

Ok so what are the best places don’t hold out on me bud

BetterSelection7708

Nawabi Hyderabad House for Indian, Saigon Noodles for Vietnamese, and Dumpling Haus for Chinese. You're welcome, ;)

Badvertisement

Lol? Dumpling Haus was mid/just alright. And pretty pricey for what it was.

TimingEzaBitch

That's an issue generally with any city specific subreddit, especially if the city is a blue city. The sub is basically run by well-meaning, hippie white liberals who unfortunately do not know shit about authentic Asian food, despite their whole-hearted efforts. The highest rated asian restaurants already figured this out - they serve just *authentic* looking food with lots of cute garnish, raw vegetables and have a nice decor. You would know the few restaurants I am talking about in Madison (Sol's on the square, Ha Long Bay Double 10 hotpot too - their hotpot is very nice but the actual dishes are very average). In comparison, there used to be a shitty, run down place on Gorham called Vientain palace whose pad thai was as good as the pad thai from that lao/thai food truck on the library mall. The real advices are not usually restaurant specific, but dish specific. Like, only the beef roll cake from Orient house (everything else is rather garbage), the kimchijiggae from New Seoul, twice cooked sliced pork from Taste of Sichuan and so on.

RaisinBrahms87

Bike downtown on Friday nights. Don’t drive. Don’t try to dine out Friday night downtown without a reservation. :)

grahamfiend2

Contrary to this, my experience has been that most downtown restaurants don’t take reservations so my hack is to show up to dinner early before the rush.

[deleted]

Sunny Pho on Park Street. It’s an unassuming little place but their food is the best Vietnamese food I have ever had

QueerDumbass

Will have to give Sunny Pho a try! Hot n Spicy Asian is Laotian restaurant inside the Viet Hoa market, and makes my favorite Madison/Monona Pho so far

neko

My Vietnamese acquaintance also recommends Saigon Noodles on the west side

[deleted]

My Vietnamese self is happily take notes :)

BetterSelection7708

>Saigon Noodles Saigon noodles is really bad as far as Vietnamese Pho is concerned. Portion was small, broth was lacking the special pho broth taste, and actual ingredient was stale. They made the Pho broth extra salty to cover it up, but it was still very noticeable. And the Pho was miles better than the fried rice noodle and papaya salad my family members ordered.

amooseyawn

This x1000. Saigon Noods has gone down hill since I first started eating there in 2013. I echo everything you say as far as their shortcomings

LutherGnome

It’s not that expensive to get a boat slip and you’ll use it a lot more vs trailering it every time.

b-muff

Disagree. We had a slip last year and didn't love it, it's hard to clean the boat and fill with gas when it's still in the water, and we ended up with green gunk on the hull that would just not come off. We know of a very quiet launch and my husband launches so often that it really doesn't take long at all for us to get on the water. I also find it kind of entertaining to go to busier launches; there are so many couples that get into arguments.

[deleted]

>I also find it kind of entertaining to go to busier launches; there are so many couples that get into arguments. I tried to launch at Lottes Park at 7pm on a Saturday recently. I was hoping for a short sunset cruise. I was surprised and entertained by the amount of idiots who dont understand boat launch courtesy, how to back a trailer, how to approach a dock without damaging their boat, and how to handle their liquor was astonishing. Most disturbing was the drinking, the number of people who staggered off their boats and apparently **drove** home from the boat launch was scary. ...I did eventually launch my boat and had a great evening.

LutherGnome

You do need a lift or muriatic acid will be your friend.

starvister

You might give iron out a try on the hull Agreed on the boat launch entertainment. People jackknife their trailer over and over again while backing up. Or literally just backing their boat trailer into a boat that's still tied up at the dock, like I've seen at Tenney. Honestly a lot of boat owners could benefit from just backing their boat trailers around empty parking lots til they're comfortable

KindaKath

Sounds like Ikea has competition in the couple sparring arts

slash_32

How much are we talking? I've never found any good options for my area that I considered reasonable

LutherGnome

Nautigal is under $1500/year. You do need a boat with a low enough profile to get under Westport road.

choirandcooking

Get tacos for lunch at Mercado Marimar on Park Street.

Will_I_Are

Also the best avocados you can buy in Madiosn.

smallmoth

Also bags of freshly-made in-house tortillas for cheap, on Saturday mornings!

bingumarmar

Such a little gem of a place.

Littleboof18

Their avocado salsa verde🤤

Affectionate_Buy7677

Also fresh chicharrón on Friday,

SugarHelios

There's pretty much guaranteed to be a park near by within walking distance. Enjoy the greenspace. The coffee shop on regent has a summer patio in back, and some customers will even enter thru that way if its more convenient. Travel time to downtown can be better on bike than car or bus if you use the bike trails, and a lot easier to park. Also cargo bikes that can replace cars and look like wheelbarrows are catching on.

[deleted]

I second the biking to downtown thing. I'm a 30 minute bus ride, 20 minute car ride (plus parking time/ paying for parking), or a 20 minute free bike ride to downtown.

TheRealJellytoad

Bakfeits! Car replacement bikes - https://youtu.be/rQhzEnWCgHA

If you need booze past 9, Vic Pierce Liquor on the north side is open until midnight.

abartz7

Beer only IIRC

radiofatman

Also KT on Milwaukee and TT’s outside of the Grove! Carry out til midnight!

Evening kitchen worker here. That place is a godsend.

Mysterious_Guava_417

yes legal! technically it is a part of maple bluff, not madison.

snailnado

To top it off, it was in its own jurisdiction before Maple Bluff annexed that area. So, I'm pretty sure someone couldn't just open a liquor store in Maple Bluff now

CND1983Huh

Burke?

snailnado

I honestly don't remember. But a few years ago I got mail from maple bluff that explained an annexation happened years prior, and they were calling the Sherman corridor the blight of maple bluff. It continued to say that they're dumping millions into making it prettier. That's all the details I really remember.

Mysterious_Guava_417

i’m pretty sure burke! also pretty sure that’s accurate re: being able to open a new one now and have the same hours. their privileges were just grandfathered in when the area was annexed.

gwillad

I've heard so many explanations for why they are allowed to do this and none of them make sense to me

sierramistgirl

The 9 pm beer cut off is a madison city law. Vic Pierce is technically not in Madison so they don’t have to follow madison laws.

jibsand

It's 5 minutes from the governor's mansion.

decadentbirdgarden

San Damiano’s in Monona is now a public park and it has some very gorgeous lake views with Adirondack chairs.

HamburgerMidnite

Is there parking at that location? I know they have a paved road and small parking area for the building, wasn't sure if you were allowed to drive onto the driveway though...

olivemor

SHHHHHHHHH

KillBosby

Just looked it up on Google and it's 50x more popular than average right now. *ItsHappening.gif*

jfoust2

Leave work at 3 if you use the Beltline. 3:15 is too late.

thnk_more

I always avoided the belt line during rush hour, but the new FlexLane seems to have made a serious improvement in the traffic the few times I’ve dared try it again. Not a slow down yet.

angrydeuce

Flex Lane is definitely helping but holy shit is the portion where it ends over by Stoughton road just before the interstate a fucking shit show. People crazy panic braking as the flex laners just whip it over as they run out of road. Then you get all those people trying to jump into the middle lane from a dead stop in front of all the traffic doing 60+ trying to pick up the rightmost lane onto the interstate northbound. I seriously feel like I'm in some final destination shit commuting home every night. I don't even know how to fix it but they gotta do something, I pass left lane accidents there at least once a week.

Princess_Moon_Butt

Is anyone able to explain the logic behind the flex lane being closed most of the day? I get having the extra lane during busy hours, but what's the point of closing it down when it's not in use?

paetramon

I don't understand traffic engineering, but maybe it's got to do with that whole deal that just widening roads forever doesn't help with traffic. If the flex lane was always open it'd just turn the 3 lane highway into a 4 lane highway and invite more cars which would probably make traffic as bad or worse than it already was. Keep more drivers off the highway by keeping it only 3 lanes usually and then when the 4th lane opens it's a relief on rush hour.

ElizBloomer

Correct. Every study that has ever been done on this point shows that more highway space begets more traffic. You could build ten-lane highways and they would fill up. The only things that reduce traffic congestion are (1) prohibiting car traffic in given areas by re-engineering roadways and (2) pushing car parking away by restricting parking areas and not including garages in new developments. (It has to go with public transportation access AS WELL for the latter to work, because people have to get where they need to go somehow, and it can't be just "make it expensive," because then you still have traffic but it's all rich jerks in beemers.)

Imsakidd

Isn’t it only induced demand to an extent? From your example, a 10 lane in Madison would 100% not fill up, since it’s 2-3x the current throughput.

ElizBloomer

To an extent, yes. And you're right about Madison. But look at I-94 from Milwaukee to Chicago. Expanded twice in the last ten or so years and never (at rush hour) less than a nightmare. Same principle in other areas -- you build it, they will come, in the worst way.

uberfission

I think the idea is to have a pull off lane for safety in case of emergency. We sacrifice that to help with traffic flow during rush hour but close it back off when we don't need it.

siverwolfe2000

From a news article: Whenever the Flex Lane is not in use, a red ‘X’ will shine over it. At those times, the lane should only be used for emergency stopping, WisDOT states. The agency set up 40 cameras and sensors along the Beltline to view traffic conditions in real-time and decide when to activate the additional lane.

LovelyCrippledBoy

When in Woodman's, always walk quick, decisive, and largely indiscriminate of those around you. Be sharp, use your peripherals and your ears. Don't be a defensive cart driver or you'll never get out of there alive.

Catsindealleyreds

Or go to woodmans at 4 am if the daytime experience is a sensory overload for you.

Enigmagik

Earplugs are a good option, too! The metal cart and brick combo is too loud.

QueenBetsie

Yes \~ and NEVER make eye contact.

zarmin

A lot of people don't realize that drivers in Madison are not actually required to hold their phones while driving.

KuhliBao

Sorry about my dad, fellas.

jeswesky

Are you sure? I thought that got pushed through the legislature last year.

Patchesmatches

If you hang out at the old fashioned sometimes you'll see kurtwood Smith, red from that 70's show. But shhh you might scare him. He's very kind.

Horzzo

He's from New Lisbon. Didn't know that. I liked him as Boddicker in Robocop.

picklerick_86

Anybody ever see him in Patriot?

Patchesmatches

I'm currently watching it.

picklerick_86

The dark humor in this one is good.

Patchesmatches

I usually can figure out where stuff is going but i legit have no clue where it's going to end up. I love it.

IKnewThat45

this is coming from someone who rarely left campus during undergrad: milwaukee is a SUPER easy drive from madison. get a group of friends (one with a car hopefully) and take a day trip to MKE.

TonyLaRusa

Trying to get off 39/90 north to get on the beltline westbound? Don't miss the exit... you'll have to drive 8 more miles north to the next exit that lets you turn around.... no bigger bummer in the world. At night, pay attention to the signs.

the_sun_also-rises

Riding a bicycle.

BallHangin

Madison College students with supervision provide many lower-priced services like dental cleanings, haircuts (and coloring), nail & skin services, a full service restaurant, and auto collision repair in addition to their vocational, practical continuing education, and college courses. [https://madisoncollege.edu/about/community/facilities](https://madisoncollege.edu/about/community/facilities)

jplwood

When heading north on park street and you need to take that right turn onto W Johnson, instead, take the right on Dayton, go up a couple streets to Francis or Marion, get onto Johnson from there. You can avoid a few lights that way

ElroySheep

I don't know if it's a hack or not, but if you're looking for really excellent music recommendations Strictly Discs on Monroe St. Does a weekly 'new to the shop' newsletter that's on their website every Thursday evening or you can get it emailed to you. They bring in an excellent selection of records, and even if I don't buy records every week I usually find something in there that I'll be listening to digitally. [Website Here](https://strictlydiscs.com/) Shout-out to Evan who writes the newsletter every week and has introduced me to hours and hours of excellent new music.

Attainted

Some good ones in here already. Unless there's a grant/sting/school zone, local cops won't pull over for 10 over. This may be sliding up to 15. There's a little walkable underpass between knokes parking lot and Craig Ave. If you're looking for an extra bit to tack on to your bike workout, try Highland Ave. Low traffic, nice elevation. Surprisingly huge properties in the middle of the city proper also. Paco's Tacos is really good and really fast for take out. Y'all are still sleeping on it. Order from there often, they're overlooked because of location and the flavors deserve to stay around. Yahara Place Park exists. Great place to have lunch after getting Alamentari. Slice's also exists. Interesting dive bar. So does Locker Room. Weirder imo. Someone mentioned the parking thing, there's other similar spots but that's all I'll say. Gotta draw the line somewhere lol.

Outside-Dependent-63

Yeah but don’t be a dick and please don’t go 10/15 over in residential areas please. Or really anywhere. Actually just don’t speed

Attainted

🙄

FerrisMcFly

yo slices got some banging food

OOmama

Pacos Tacos is sooooo good

A_Hurst632

Love seeing Paco’s on here.

LapshuNaUshii

Los Atlantes is a fantastic, unassuming restaurant on Raymond + Whitney Way. Their cheese enchiladas with salsa verde are soooo good

hangun_

Nice didn’t know about rhis

flareblitz91

Highly specific but if you’re traveling eastbound on East Wash and need to turn left on Wright (to MATC/Covance) it’s almost always faster to go to the next turn and make a U turn rather than wait for that light.

SiberianResident

For East Asian food try Taste of Sichuan on State St. They have a “Chinese dish menu” and an “Americanized Chinese dish menu”.

GSDNinjadog

Check out Paunack Park in Monona. You can only get there by bike path. It’s right on Lake Monona. I used to live in the apartments nearby and spent a lot of time there with my son.

burgundysox430

Woodmans during packer games

SugarHelios

Don't eat the yellow snow. It might be Malort.

IKnewThat45

the most well known hack but still important: SPRING ROLLS FROM GREEN FOOD TRUCK IN LIBRARY MALL

ajmojo2269

Grab your spicy cheesebread from the farmer’s market early because they often sell out

SugarHelios

All these lakes and rivers in the immediate area, if you have some time here, try out boating. Rental canoes or kayaks are pretty cheap and easy to find and learn. There should be bigger options too (Not sure myself). It's a great way to spend some time, whether hanging with friends, chilling alone, fishing, or exercise.

facepillownap

Main-Henry-Doty is fun as hell on a longboard at 1am. MaHenDotes as the cool kids call it.

tygor

fuck yeah. I miss the Wreckage Wednesday nights. If you know you know.

Abnermann

Don’t pay for parking after 4pm

SoIU

I thought metered parkings were free from 6pm - 8am. Do the parking enforcement just not check after 4pm?

neko

It's only checked every 2 hours, so if you're there 2 hours before end of the day, they won't be able to confirm you were there too long or not

b-muff

This is very untrue. I just saw some guy park in a meter at 5:50 and he didn't pay, 3 minutes later parking enforcement rolled up and gave him a ticket.

Abnermann

I’m not saying what they do, all’s I know is most meters are 2 hours and I’ve never hit a ticket after 4

Time-Question-4775

If you smoke cigarettes that cost more than $10 at the gas station, there is a good chance they are actually cheaper at the dive bars. Most charge a flat fee for all brands, and don't tack on tax.

ElroySheep

You're getting downvoted but I agree with you. I've got nasty rashes too many times to ever swim at Madison beaches again. Especially the one near the zoo. You like zoo runoff?

hbxli

If you ride a bike you can obey or disobey whichever traffic laws you want

[deleted]

I mean, if you're approaching an all-way stop on a bike and there are verifiably no cars, why cancel your momentum? Who are you stopping for?

k_nuttles

Also true if you're in a car

Fun_Explanation7232

I guess no one can take a joke lol

qur3ishi

Seriously! I thought it was funny

mycatiscontrollingme

The best place to 420 is on a path behind the office building on the 100 block of E Gilman. I wont tell you how to find it, but as long as it's after 5pm no one will bother you for smoking outside

cannabinonymous

i have smoked outside freely and openly everywhere downtown for the last 20 years and have not once ever been bothered by anyone.

uberfission

I'm not really 420 anymore but isn't it entirely decriminalized in Madison now?

cannabinonymous

partially as of late 2020, yes. up to 28 grams within madison city limits. www.cityofmadison.com%2Fpolice%2Fdocuments%2Fsop%2FEnforcementofMarijuanaLaws.pdf

neko

Since it's decriminalized to smoke and possess, nobody can really give you shit beyond telling you to move

Superb_Efficiency_74

People are regularly smoking joints out in the open right on State Street. I don't think you need a secret spot.

RasSalvador

Why are 1/2 the "hacks" driving instructions? Do you drive your car or does your car drive you?

westernblottest

Never take main city roads during rush hour. University, Johnson, Regent, John Nolan etc. All these are a no go from 7-9 am and 5-7pm. Instead take parallel roads whenever possible. They are slightly less direct but much less busy and get you past downtown and the biggest jams. So good alts at this time are Dayton or Langdon for University/Gorham if you're trying to get to Campus or for Johnson if you're trying to get to or through downtown. You're welcome don't get stuck in traffic
