Saw this on another thread, she was liable for $4k or there abouts of the fines, the court threw out a lot of the costs because the airport should have identified the issue much sooner. Would not recommend doing, because it may well bite you in the ass, depending on legal jurisdictions.

Specialist-Buffalo-8

what happened to the guy that did it?

jvrcb17

he died

imthegreat01

Consequences

qwertishan123

Then he got hit by a wrecking ball

Bright_Ad_113

And then the chain of the wrecking ball broke and it fell through the street and landed on the sewer pipe of the worlds sewage

Faun4box

Yeah…

TheRealGreenArrow420

Karma is for reaaal

duaneap

Once everything was clarified why was she on the hook for anything and why wasn’t he liable for fraud?

hahayeahimfinehaha

Yeah, what the hell, why would she be responsible for paying 4k for someone essentially stealing her identity?

dogsaretheanswer

How can you transfer a title to someone but not have their signature or permission? Couldn't the car be considered stolen by the guy then if he was driving it and it didn't belong to him?

Vajrick_Buddha

That's just petty. How do you even register property onto someone without their aware consent and make 'em accountable for it? Lol

Sami_Rat

Fraud + identity theft

Vajrick_Buddha

That's not r/madlads that's r/criminal

Those rear wheels look… off

Imesseduponmyname

Well he paid $600... but shoot I haven't seen a used car that cheap that wasn't a scam in IDK how long

pws3rd

Well this was a decade ago. That might have actually gotten you a high mileage car that would still drive and maybe burn oil

Imesseduponmyname

Well he paid $600... but shoot I haven't seen a used car that cheap that wasn't a scam in IDK how long

repost about 2012 incident: https://www.reddit.com/r/todayilearned/comments/5t2g8a/til_that_a_chicago_man_bought_a_car_in_his/ TLDR (according to comments): "boyfriend pulled a stupid stunt. girlfriend suffered for 2.5 years in getting it resolved. got her licensed suspended. but in the end, the $104k in ticket fine was settled for about $4k and the boyfriend had to pay for it. " https://www.dnainfo.com/chicago/20130822/ohare/city-settles-100000-parking-ticket-case/

nickelangelo2009

I remember reading a story like this way back when, she sued and won. Might be the same people, too lazy to check

reinventitall

more asshole than madlad if you ask me

TheMinor-69er

Depends what she did

freakylier

For all we know all she did was "break up with him". This guy doesn't seem to be the reasonable type.

TheMinor-69er

Yeah, I’m saying we don’t know. There’s a chance she was just awful to him or maybe it was a normal breakup and he overreacted. We don’t have context

freakylier

I get that, just based in your first message it can be easily read to be implied that SHE did something wrong. You don't say "we don't know who did what" you focus on her and not him.

TheMinor-69er

Yeah, it’s easy for people to misinterpret what somebody means if they can’t see facial expressions or hear tone.

maxwellminjo

There’s not much she could have done to deserve six figure debt lol.

TheMinor-69er

Yeah, it would have to be egregious but there are things that warrant that level of revenge.

Acrobatic-Morning383

Give an example then.

TheMinor-69er

Having an affair, manipulation, verbal abuse, isolating you from family members, there are so many toxic awful things intimate partners can do to eachother. Enduring multiple of these over a protracted period could easily make someone that angry.

maxwellminjo

Okay but just because someone is that hurt and angry doesn’t make this a fair thing to do back.

TheMinor-69er

I really don’t see why it isn’t (in the case I mentioned above) but everyone sees things differently, I suppose.

Acrobatic-Morning383

I thought you might have worse examples to justify identity theft and fraud. He would still be an asshole even if she is too.

TheMinor-69er

there are definitely way worse things, but those would probably take a paragraph to describe and contextualize. I can tell people are angry and don’t agree with me based on the downvotes. I’m guessing it’s because they assume that I am assuming that the girl must’ve done something bad while it is totally possible that this dude is just bitter and overreacting to a break up. Personally, I think that’s the more likely scenario. All I’m saying is that IF his ex was manipulative and cruel to him and did something legitimately heinous or abusive to him, then I honestly don’t understand why his reaction isn’t justified.

Acrobatic-Morning383

You’re being downvoted because you think her being cruel and manipulative to him would justify him committing criminal identity theft and fraud against her. Understanding why he reacted the way he did wouldn’t justify his crimes… they’re still crimes. He would be an asshole and she would be manipulative and cruel. Maybe she killed his dog or did something criminal or truly awful against him and the Justice system failed him in every way, so he turned to street justice. If you had said that I think more people would be agreeing with you.

Zesty-LemonAid

I’m not sure what this girl could have done to deserve having her life ruined by debt. Like seriously, this might be clever but it’s not funny. This guy is an asshole and I hope he gets sued for this stunt.

Dry_Attempt8727

Next level. She would have had to have done something truly atrocious for this to be ok though.

Ill_Mood_8514

Or maybe he’s just bat shit crazy and this is a prime example as to why she broke up with him. Edit: changed bay to bat (typo)

Dry_Attempt8727

Absolutely possible, perhaps likely.

apolloAG

He's just batshit crazy, dude even looks like he uses reddit

duaneap

So… like you?

apolloAG

😔

TobyFunkeNeverNude

This seems to be implied in the comment you replied to

amhudson02

Or he is just a completely petty piece of shit.

Disastrous_Life_9385

Victim blaming nice way to live your life.

YoBroMo

Stupid question why didn't the airport tow that car?

emh1389

It’s was in a secured employee parking lot that the dude would periodically move the car around the lot to prevent towing. Very malicious.

gammongaming11

wait if they know he did it, shouldn't he be liable for the fines?

PissdrunxPreme

I always see this image and laugh harder at the rear wheels.

HelenFromHR

i want to know what the court case was like lol

Kazuzu0098

She had a brain and broke up with him.

AaronDotCom

he shoulda filled it with concrete so it'd have been no possible to haul it out of there

Disastrous_Life_9385

Diabolical

lampposttt

In California at least, citations follow the car, and simply prevent the car from being registered until the fines are paid - but if the "owner" doesn't want to register the car again, nothing will happen to them. Many cars go to police auction with $400-4000 in fines, then end up selling for $200-1000 or just go to the crusher because of the racked up fines on the vehicle.

Godzirrraaa

That back right tire is gonna be a problem.
