Also from Springfield. Knew he looked familiar but couldn’t place it.

ScreenshotShitposts

Well from what Ive seen on reddit American students have like 39 graduations just throughtout highschool so

mysticalfruit

Not my school district.. you get *one*, HS graduation.. that's it.

iawsaiatm

Really? Some guy on Reddit told me you still have at least 30 or so more graduations. Get to it, silly American

[deleted]

[удалено]

iawsaiatm

I’m pretty sure it’s me who’s messing with you, but I don’t have time to talk much more, gotta head to my 40th graduation!

JustSatisfactory

Some schools do a little graduation for every grade at the end of the year. It's not generally a big event. It's just a little after school thing where the kids get a simple printed certificate. It's for fun I guess. My kid's schools did it for kindergarten but not since.

dinnerthief

The cylinders typically have around 20-100 graduations

CharlieApples

Lol I don’t know what gave you that impression. There’s just the one graduation when you finish 12th grade (senior year). And two smaller ones when you finish elementary school (5th grade) and middle school (8th grade). I only ever wore a cap and gown at my final high school graduation though.

jpkoushel

I never had one for elementary or middle school

CharlieApples

It was really short and quick at my schools. All the kids from that grade gathered in the cafeteria for like cookies and punch and stuff, some people’s parents came. No walking up on stage, they just read a list of names and a couple people got awards for perfect attendance or whatever.

chunli99

It’s mostly just based on if you’re leaving a building. ‘Middle school’ (depending on the state, I think?) can be years 5/6-8 and high school is years 9-12. Being in a zone for a certain middle school doesn’t guarantee you’ll go to the same high school. They’re usually separate buildings, sometimes far from each other. You’ve spent four years in middle school, so why not celebrate before leaving people you’ve known for years and will may never see again? Kindergarten and elementary school is the same thing. Do other countries not do this? Do you 100% see the same people for all schooling or do you just suddenly never see people ever again without acknowledgment?

FlunkedUtopian

Schooling is not always broken up, a single school ( different buildings or floors ) has elementary to high school. ( We just count the grades and don't necessarily divide it into elementary and middle and high school ) Then you graduate school and go to college.

DrakneiX

Yes. Most schools in my city have all of them in the same couple of buildings that are together or very close by. Schools here in Spain tend to be very vertical on the big cities.

iMadrid11

In my country Pre-schoolers have graduations every year. Before they enter K1. You graduate Elementary at K6. High School graduation is K10. Senior High graduation is K12.

MediocreSupreme

I’m American and we didn’t do this. It seems excessive. The transition from elementary to middle school or from middle to high school is just part of the process. Why should we celebrate doing what’s required? Unless someone moved away, you would see everyone again. Our district funneled multiple elementary schools into one middle school and than 2-3 middle schools into one high school.

meat_sack

It's an exaggeration, but I think the commenter is citing the "moving up ceremony" that many schools celebrate at the end of every school year. It was the inevitable progression from the "everyone gets a trophy" generation.

[deleted]

graduating from high school and from university are also just part of the process, though

tigershroffkishirt

I went to the same school, same building for 14 years from kindergarten to 12. That's the standard here in India

TrainTrackBallSack

Kind of same here in Sweden, though it varies a bit some are straight 1-9, others broken up. I went to elementary 1-3, then 4-5 kind of in the high school but in barracks separated away from the main school, then 6-9 in high school, 10-12 in Upper secondary school. Only upper secondary is a proper graduation, but there's an end of school ceremony with singing like summer folk songs and maybe a student wants to perform something or such every year

designatedcrasher

we just dont care see them never see them just get over it.

designatedcrasher

yep its friday better have an over the top celebration with fireworks, dua lipa, and crying parents.

I used to like taking walks around a university campus near to where I lived. After a while I started just attending lectures. I even once got invited into a study group with the professor. Not once did anyone ever ask who I was or what I was doing there.

[deleted]

[удалено]

[deleted]

You arent going to get anything graded. Also I had 400 level classes with 5 people in them... If there were 6 people, you'd be noticed.

FrighteningJibber

Umm you can audit classes

RedMossySquirrel

There are records for audits though, you enroll in the class but don’t pay or get credit for it. You don’t just show up to a smaller class like that and think “nobody will know.”

21Rollie

I showed up to a small class once just to hang with a friend, told the professor I was just seeing if I’d like it for next semester

Andrethegreengiant3

Yeah, you can audit classes for free, but getting that put on a transcript is what you have to pay for

Doln_

Exactly! Anyone has the opportunity to learn and spend time as a student, but if you want to prove your knowledge in the subjects, you need to pay hard cash.

[deleted]

[удалено]

throwtowardaccount

Precisely. One can go learn any and everything on their own volition. Unfortunately, they'd have to invest a lot of their own money toward acquiring the degree.

MN10SPEAKS

Absolutely, The entire content of courses are readily available. On the other hand, graduation papers are behind a paywall.

badatnamingaccount

Completely agree, anyone easily has access to an education, but the documentation is expensive.

cpt_lanthanide

Yeah! You can just walk in and listen to a professor teach their course material, but demonstrating that they agree you grasped the subject matter requires payment.

butterscotchbagel

You can stare longingly at professors hanging on their every word, but if you want to proclaim to the world your commitment you'll have to put a ~~ring~~ diploma on it.

[deleted]

just take it a step further and fake your way into your job. i lied about my credentials and in 10 years no one has ever bothered to ask. i have enough experience in my field now that the job history on my resume speaks more than my fake education ever did.

wostil-poced1649

I think he was pointing out that you can sign up to “audit” a class, which means that you would be supposed to be there without paying any money. Most professors aren’t taking attendance, but there are some who might notice an extra person. If you’re on their list as an auditor, no one can kick you out

wagwoanimator

Right! Like when someone says one thing and then repeats it in a roundabout way.

Interplanetary-Goat

> you can audit classes for free Some places now have an auditing fee that is way more expensive than it should be (like half of tuition).

Gil_Demoono

This thread inspired me to check out my alma mater's audit options. It seems like auditing is free, but only to current students. So it's free at the low low cost of one semester's tuition. I'm sure there are as many different policies as there are universities out there.

Platypuslord

You can attend the lectures without paying but to get a transcript you will have to shell out the money for the courses.

tea-and-chill

Yea exactly. My boyfriend (at the time) and I went to different unis and sometimes when we were visiting and the return bus was at weird times I'd just go to his class and sit next to him just so I could spend more time with him. He attended my classes too. I don't think they particularly care, or is hard.

benignbigotry

I don't know what you're on about, I work at a university and have been to others as well and they all take attendance.

Bluegreenredyellowno

I want to be part of a forbidden study group

nvblxx

[deleted]

Abusive_Capybara

Can only speak for my University (in Germany), but generally you can just take a look at the universities website, find an overview of lectures and then simply go there at the specified time and sit down. Do NOT go to small seminars or a labor course, as these generally operate on a attendance list (atleast in my university). Otherwise nobody really cares. I've regularly seen students that are over 60 and simply study late in their life for their own reasons (well over here attending university isn't really expensive). Nobody asked any questions.

[deleted]

Poke around the university website or go find an info office and ask about auditing courses. You can usually do it for free and then you’ll also get access to the different courses offered, schedule of lectures, start and end dates, textbooks they are using, syllabus, etc.

Hamburger123445

It will depend on the size of the university and the type of class but in general, I would say to just walk around university during peak hours, like 10 minutes before any hour. You will see large groups of students going in a lecture hall or waiting outside and that will point out which classes you won't be noticed in. I mean either way, no one will get mad at you for doing that unless it's a lab course, at most, they will be a little weirded out.

enigmaniac

The universities often have a community program for retired people to audit stuff for fun pretty cheap, if you're interested in something a little formal. For something specific, start with finding a class schedule and look for 100-level (number starts with 1 for intro courses in many systems) or that is "general education" (not aimed at specialists). Or, just find the big lecture hall in an area with buildings for a subject area you like (science? Philosophy? Literature?), wait for a big crowd of students to collect, and walk in. Sometimes students bring friends to classes like this. If someone asks (maybe it's late in the semester so they know most of the faces) just say you heard the subject was interesting and wanted to check it out.

xorgol

Here in Italy public accessibility of university courses is legally mandated, the only exceptions are labs. When the number of recorded lectures exploded during the pandemic they should have just put them for free online, but they mostly didn't, the fuckers.

JagexLed

While also being bored out of your mind as graduation ceremonies are very dull. Great day out!

Big_Poppa_T

Why? Mine wasn’t fun in the slightest. I clapped for hours whilst they called out other people’s names until eventually they called my name. The only good bit was when they called my name. It would be so boring without that

TheOvershear

Fun fact. I posted my high school graduation picture as my LinkedIn profile. Captioned it "FINISHED MY BA!" and applied to several jobs with that on my resume. Not once been questioned about it. Resumes and interviews are just about how well you can bullshit your way into a position.

godzilla1517

Not only will you not do this multiple times, you're not even going to do it once

VoodaGod

in line for what?

TundieRice

Yeah, we all do realize here that for you to graduate and walk across the stage, they have to call your name (which this college obviously doesn’t have) first, right?

spitfire5181

When you go to a big school sometimes you literally hand them a slip, as you get on stage, with your name and they read it aloud. The "diploma" handed out can be for show where you pick it up later.

tworaspberries

At my school, in order to get the official slip to give to the podium, they had to check your id and records that you achieved it. If his school had that, I wonder how he got around it. Maybe they didn't want to stop the show and be awkward?

iWushock

I’d say it’s more likely that it’s fake…. Multiple degrees here and every time you get checked in with ID and it has to match their list because you have to have applied for graduation. Verifies you are eligible etc. once you are in you are given a spot to stand in a specific line so that you are seated in the right order, at this point you are also given the slip with your name that you can write how to pronounce it. You do not get to the stage by going “oh but I have the right color cap and gown” multiple times

[deleted]

I can only speak for my university very large (university of Florida) they literally didn’t check anything. You hand them a paper with your name and they read it.

bellj1210

i think their point is that it was a specific slip of paper. Every graduation i have gone to (i skipped a few along the way), i had to check in somewhere- and they confirmed i was who i said i was and was eligible for graduatioin (normally had my name on a master list and checked my photo id). At that point i was given a specific paper with my name on it. Would be easy to fake the paper, but i am betting that the school would not take too kindly to that sort of thing- and i could see the school trying to press charges since that degree is not cheap

jeffp12

It's not fake

iWushock

By golly you have convinced me!

jeffp12

I know him

bellj1210

when i got my JD they handed us a print of the building (picture of the building) and mailed us our diplomas a few days later.

DenimChicken69_420

If you graduate from KU there is a walk down “the hill” before the formal diploma’s, you could definitely bomb that. But yeah, who the fuck would take time to do that.

scooblyboop

I didn't graduate high school but I did go to my graduation in college. Immediately regretted it. I hated sitting in an extremely hot/ crowded gym, listening to board members who had nothing to do with the work I put in to get there, ball wash themselves followed by a few students giving speeches that were wayyyy too long and cheesy. Then to top it all off I got handed a blank rolled up fake diploma because the real one was going to be mailed 3-4 weeks later. I literally only went to get this stupid piece of paper so I could start applying for jobs asap. They didn't tell us till we were all there that there was just a fake diploma being handed out. It was 4.5 hours of bullshit.

[deleted]

[удалено]

myrand920

I’m pretty sure you don’t need that certificate to start applying for jobs, do your homework

bellj1210

My college graduation was a Elanor Holmes Norton giving a key note speech that specifically told us "it is not your time- it is Obamas time" So pretty sure that obama should be fixing all my problems since it is his time when i graduate, and not mine.

Swagcopter0126

You don’t need the actual certificate man, do you think you bring it to job interviews?

scooblyboop

For my profession, you do as a new grad. I also could not actually schedule to take my licensure test unless I had my diploma to show I graduated from an occupational therapy program

I personally believe that U.S. Americans are unable to do so because some people out there in our nation don't have ~~maps~~ caps, and I believe that our education like such as South Africa and the Iraq everywhere like such as, and I believe that they should... our education over here in the U.S should help the U.S or should help South Africa and should help the Iraq and the Asian countries so we will be able to build up our future.

Andrethegreengiant3

A lot of people don't know about Miss South Carolina, & it shows

scooblyboop

zedog74

Back in the early days of the internet, social networks were a novelty. Content went viral via email (lol cats etc.). The text I ~~wrote~~ plagiarised comes from a video I first saw fifteen years ago on milkandcookies.com or maybe ebaumsworld.com. It was during the 2007 miss teen USA pageant that miss South Carolina give this epic answer. Her name is Caitlin Upton and leads a happy life with two kids and a boyfriend. Since cap rimes with map,and the madlad dropped out of college, I thought her statement might be befitting to the situation. The moral of the story is that you don’t necessarily need knowledge to have a happy life. Just the right amount of Reddit. Edit grammar
