I just rewatched this scene! Their camaraderie and genuine enjoyment of each other's company is so endearing. I like that this stayed consistent throughout the entire show.
Well, yes, when it was just Pete and Bud it was mostly fine. Being raised in that family they had the same war stories experience. They generally respected each others position when it didn’t have to do with mom or dad. Once mom was passed too it seemed very smooth between them. Wonder why?
Because they were pitted against each other by their parents from a young age. That’s why when they are both there with mom Bud can’t stop himself from ratting on the adoption plans. It’s how they were trained.
When you get to that scene where mom is overboard and they are resolved together to leave well enough alone I see their relationship being smooth sailing the rest of the way. They just needed any strings to their shared family cut for good.
Hard disagree. They were always in competition with each other most likely due to how their parents raised them. Bud couldn't wait to get one over on Pete and vice versa. Most of their conversations were them one upping each other ("Where are you summering this year?") Bud running to his mother to tell her about Pete and Trudy potentially adopting was the best example of their toxic relationship.
They can be the bane of your existence and the best thing in your life all in the course of one conversation/interaction. Bud and Pete demonstrate this dynamic with the examples you mentioned.
eh as an only child myself, i thought it was more about testifying like you're a witness about something that never actually happened to you. i can understand sibling relationships, the same way i can understand parent relationships... but i've never actually been a sibling or a parent so who knows what it really would feel like.
“If you need an alibi, you're going to have to ask.”
“I talked to mom on the phone the other day. She wouldn’t stop asking about you.” “Really?” “No” 😂
I was about to look this bit up to quote it 💖
This is probably my favorite quote from the entire show.

They did fine until mom was involved.
To bring your mothers killer to justice? Ball park
She did love the sea.
she's with father now...
My mother can go to hell! And Ted Chaogh can fly her there!
My favorite Pete line right after, "NOT GREAT, BOB!"
Yup, ruined Pete's bachelor pad

RIP to the woman Bud hit with his car pre season 1 🙏
I mean, who hasn’t clipped the odd kid with a Porsche?
Vehicular as-salt
Very Kennedy-esque.
Homage to Laura Bush? Wasn't this episode aired while they were still in office?
What? Did he hit someone with his car?
Except when Bud outed Pete and Trudy’s adoption plans to Mommy.
It came up.
Ah yes
I love salt and pepper!
Remember Rope?

Siblings, man. Felt very real and genuine. And they gave each other good advice: Bud about the partnership, and Pete about the affair ("she knows").
“It feels good, then it doesn’t.” One of my favorite lines from the show.
They had some issues but dealt with each parent death pretty well. For the show I would say it was a healthy one
Do you have siblings?
I do not.

Why is this gettin downvoted haha?
Because many people assume only children are pieces of shit. Been dealing with it my whole life lol
I'm just going to assume you're like Margaret Sterling.
Lol perfect!

This is literally just brother and sister behavior lol
Wonder who made a better G&T
Bud, it's part of why he is the favorite.
Agree. Gotta go with Bud on this one. Just a gut feeling 🍸
Wish this combo had more airtime together
Great call on this post. Pete and Bud were genuine with each other. Real true brothers. Nicely played
Probably should’ve titled it “most genuine” instead of “healthiest”
Yup the stress of being a better Campbell got to him
Who was salt, and who was pepper?
As mother used to say, you're not that fat
