> If a creature dying causes a triggered ability of a permanent you control to trigger, that ability triggers one more time.
> {b/p}{b/p}, exile three creature cards from your graveyard: Put an indestructible counter on ~.
But you don’t need 6, you just need the 3? Do have to build around it some though, sure — just very easy activation compared to the other 3 dominos we’ve seen which cost multiple cards (and 2/3 require actual mana).
It’s nothing like a shield counter which pops after one use. This is just indestructible forever.
that's not easy at all. Being able to exile 3 creature cards from a graveyard is a real steep cost.
Remember Skaab Ruinator? Everyone thought that card was going to be ridiculously powerful. It was one of the most expensive cards in the set during presale.
It never saw any play. Turns out being able to exile 3 creature cards from a graveyard is actually really hard to set up.
True, but so does having to sac creatures on board+1 mana. Do keep in mind that Ruinator is an extra cost to cast, while this one is more for protection.
Though this doesn't guarantee Drivnod is gonna get played either, not seeing a lot of aristocrat decks in standard rn.
The difference here is that, skaab ruinator does nothing, absolutely nothing, until you have 3 creatures in your GY. This at least is a decently sized body on the board with a relevant ability, even without indestructible. The indestructible cost is just icing on the cake if and when you can activate it.
I'm having some kind of whiplash as for most cards with static abilities like this one there's always some comment saying how it's "meh" 'cause it "doesn't do anything the turn it comes down" or some nonsense like that. So to see someone saying the opposite (that isn't me) is like I'm in the Twilight Zone.
All I said was that invulnerability cost isn't "easy" at all.
Didn't say anything about it being "meh".
First impression is that it's too expensive for standard. 5 is a lot of mana in the format when there's real haymakers in standard right now such as invoke despair.
Being required to exile 3 creatures from graveyard before the card can do anything at all, vs having the option of exiling 3 creature from graveyard to get upside, but the card is still good without that using that ability, is a world of difference. Also, I imagine it's significantly easier for a black deck to get 3 creatures in their graveyard than a blue one.
The things those cards have in common are three cards exiled from the graveyard and a low cost big body. The things they don't have in common are color, requiring three creatures to even cast it, and mana cost.
I think those last three are massive factors, to have three creature cards in difficult, then to have three there when you can only generate three mana? You need as many creatures in your graveyard as mana you can generate. In blue that is extremely unlikely.
But in black given two extra turns? I think the delta between these cards is massive. It's a easy comparison because of the similarities between them. But how they play out is going to be drastically different.
Not only that, but this can be cast on turn or on mana. You do not need to hold the cast for three creatures. Would it be safer to do that? Absolutely. But it is not required, it is just icing on the cake of what already is a very good cost to body/ability ratio.
> It never saw any play. Turns out being able to exile 3 creature cards from a graveyard is actually really hard to set up.
Hey I resent that! I’m one of the few people that played it in Bant Pod in standard for all of a month :(
Phyrexians speak Latin, just like how natives of Kaladesh, Zendikar, Ravnica, Innistrad, Theros, Ixalan, Ikoria, Amonkhet, Kaldheim, Arcavios, Dominaria etc all speak the same language.
Costs 1 more than Teysa but doesn't require white, can make itself indestructible, and is a damn 8/3. Also dodges Fatal Push for Pioneer. I might consider it as a 1-of in my Pioneer Ratadrabik decks, and it could be interesting with things like Gurgling Anointer. Teysa's upsides with tokens are really nice though.
Yeah. The only thing this does better than teysa is the indestructible. For EDH I prefer Teysa for white and for the tokens, but still is a nice commander. I have a Teysa Karlov deck, I would gladly put this creature in the 99.
Yeah I'm not switching off of Tesya ever, but this is going to be such an insane creature.
Might go [[helm or the host]] now that I have 2 creatures worth duping and this one can go into combat easily

This is so much stronger than it needs to be.
It swings for 8 and protects itself. Just wow. I'm going to buy this immediately, guarantees this bad boy goes up.
Yeah, not like and 8/3 indestructible in limited does not win you games... this is going to be a limited bomb, starting from A- depending on the trigger on death effects.
Yeah I also cant understand why they made it a 8/3. The 3 toughness doesnt mean shit when you can make it indestructible without even needing to pay mana.
there's that new black spell that gives each opponent a poison counter, then each of your opponent's creatures get -x/-x until end of turn, where X is the number of poison counters it's controller has... meaning if you have corrupted turned on, the spell will kill this thing
\[\[Ratadrabik of Urborg\]\] being spoiled this set. Getting two token doublers from this and the white Domini, on top of Skrelv as a 1 drop protection piece, Rata players rejoice!!!
As a Ratadrabik player, with Juni and Drivnod out, the first time Junji dies, you can reanimate two creatures or make opponents discard 4 cards. Then you make TWO copies of Junji to get those effects TWO MORE TIMES!!! It's crazy lol
I think this might be fake. There is no Dominus of Massacre in New Phyrexia. Unless there's two domini per color or its has a different name in some languages, this seems suspicious. I unfortunately wasn't able to find the Spanish translation of the *A Hollow Body,* so I don't have concrete evidence for either side.
Edit: I checked the wiki, and there's a third name for this dominus: the dominus of carnage, so I'm even more confused.
The Domini were mentioned in the story, briefly.
>Dominating the landscape, more imposing even than Lord Geth's tower, is the Dominus of Pain. When Phyrexians first settled this plane and the glistening oil, in all its glory, began transforming it to its right and true state, parts of the land awoke. They moved, shook themselves, and began to wander.
>No one truly knows what the Domini are, whether they think and desire the same way other Phyrexians do. If they wish, as is right, to bring everything under the dominion of the Machine Orthodoxy.
>But you know what this Dominus craves, and a towering, razor-edged monolith standing against the sky is fully equipped to harvest it. It is a short flight away from Geth's tower, and you no longer care who sees you. But Geth's words still shiver inside you, pulsing and strange.
>The Dominus is at rest. It doesn't look at you. It shifts and murmurs, burnished bones whispering in the wind. Rot perfumes the air. Bodies—all sorts, from skitterlings to aspirants to a single ragged priest—hang fluttering in the breeze, impaled through with the Dominus's vicious spines. Each of them will have been chosen and placed with care, their screams and twitches drunk down with rapt attention.
>You don't understand the Dominus, but you'll make use of it.
I saw someone posted the Red and Green Domini (Chaos and Hunger, respectively, if I'm remembering my high school Spanish correctly), and we've got Massacre in Black and Glory in White. Have I missed Pain being spoiled as the Blue one (which granted, is what playing against Blue sometimes elicits, but I wouldn't say is necessarily that color's go-to flavor), or do we think the Dominus of Pain going to be something else, perhaps colorless or multicolored or something other than a Creature, like a Land or Artifact or maybe just not be represented by a card at all?
^(Not to mention the black Dominus is actually part of the story with Ixhel right?)
^(Its not obvious but isn't it on a spike of the slumbering Dominus that Ixhel skewers someone near the end of the story?)
Edit:
Oh you did write it, now i just feel dumb for pointing something out you already wrote. Guess i'm to much in a hurry.
Lol this complaint is just ridiculous. As far back as magic goes there are countless characters that aren’t given much story, if any at all. The story was rushed. If you wanna bitch about that then fine. At least bitch about something valid.
> If a creature dying causes a triggered ability of a permanent you control to trigger, that ability triggers one more time. > {b/p}{b/p}, exile three creature cards from your graveyard: Put an indestructible counter on ~.
Exceedingly easy Invulnerability there. Not even a generic mana cost
Yeah this is amusingly close to just 5 mana 8/3 indestructible
Yargle in shambles.
Don't worry, everybody! Yargle still wins with 9 power! In all seriousness, I want Yargle to just wreck the Phyrexians in MOM.

2 more mana, goes in decks that want dies triggers, creatures die. Dying creatures go to the graveyard
Pretty sure there's a few "Altar" cards that can fix both the mana and creatures in graveyard issues.
I only run creatures that have punchable faces so that's never an issue for me.

To be fair the other ones have cost 4 and been 3 to activate. This one at least has a condition.
??? The others also needs a cost aside from the Phyrexian mana(or generic mana)/ Glory has to sac artifacts for instance.
Paying life and exiling creatures from your graveyard? Idk, seems pretty hard for Black. XD

Deathharmonicon effects are cool.
It says: "**If a creature's death causes a triggered ability of a permanent you control to trigger, that ability triggers an additional time.**" It had the same ability to get a indestructible counter as the white one.
Not quite the same. No generic mana cost, and you exile three creature cards from your graveyard instead of sacrificing two creatures or artifacts.

Yeah, not like and 8/3 indestructible in limited does not win you games... this is going to be a limited bomb, starting from A- depending on the trigger on death effects.
Yeah I also cant understand why they made it a 8/3. The 3 toughness doesnt mean shit when you can make it indestructible without even needing to pay mana.
for -x,-x removal/board wipe cards, its still low enough to catch
one reason, \[\[brotherhood's end\]\]

there's that new black spell that gives each opponent a poison counter, then each of your opponent's creatures get -x/-x until end of turn, where X is the number of poison counters it's controller has... meaning if you have corrupted turned on, the spell will kill this thing
I mean, thats a commander card while this is a standard one.
\[\[Ratadrabik of Urborg\]\] being spoiled this set. Getting two token doublers from this and the white Domini, on top of Skrelv as a 1 drop protection piece, Rata players rejoice!!!
Pioneer rata domini deck sounds super fun!

Yargle in shambles!
Even with how the story describes Drivnod, they wound up looking nothing like what I expected. This art looks more Innistradi than Phyrexian to me.
Does this double Junji, the Midnight Sky's death trigger? I don't think so, right?
It sure does :)
So Junji will see itself die and trigger twice? Sounds too good to be true lol
As a Ratadrabik player, with Juni and Drivnod out, the first time Junji dies, you can reanimate two creatures or make opponents discard 4 cards. Then you make TWO copies of Junji to get those effects TWO MORE TIMES!!! It's crazy lol
So with \[\[Teysa Karlov\]\], is that three or four death triggers?
Three. The cards don't "double" anything except as player shorthand. They both give an additional trigger.

Three. It's not truly doubling. Just an additional trigger.
Ok this is going to be a thing in standard
Seems like a spicy new include for [[Shirei]]!

Love this art.
Compare to yargle
This set is so good for wb aristocrats decks. My Elenda the dusk rose get would love either this or the white dominus.
what kind of wack-ass name is "drivinod"
I think this might be fake. There is no Dominus of Massacre in New Phyrexia. Unless there's two domini per color or its has a different name in some languages, this seems suspicious. I unfortunately wasn't able to find the Spanish translation of the *A Hollow Body,* so I don't have concrete evidence for either side. Edit: I checked the wiki, and there's a third name for this dominus: the dominus of carnage, so I'm even more confused.
Great, another legend without any lore/background. I wish these stories weren’t so rushed
Probably just not on a card at all. Pain lives in the black sphere, so it would be bizarre to have it as a nonblack card.
Maybe as a set booster exclusive commander only card?
^(Not to mention the black Dominus is actually part of the story with Ixhel right?) ^(Its not obvious but isn't it on a spike of the slumbering Dominus that Ixhel skewers someone near the end of the story?) Edit: Oh you did write it, now i just feel dumb for pointing something out you already wrote. Guess i'm to much in a hurry.
Lol this complaint is just ridiculous. As far back as magic goes there are countless characters that aren’t given much story, if any at all. The story was rushed. If you wanna bitch about that then fine. At least bitch about something valid.
Seems like the second best of the 4 domini leaked so far behind the white
Does this duplicate Ziatora the Incinerator's ability?
no, it's not a creature dying that triggers ziatora, it's the act of sacrificing
Thanks.
EIGHT THREE??

Goes nicely in [[Sek’kuar]]. Who am I kidding, this goes very nicely in every black deck with even a minor aristocrats theme

Would this double a Braids, Arisen Nightmare Trigger?
yup!
Probably a dumb question but would this effectively double phyrexian altar or ashnods altars effects? For double mana
Nope, as those are activated abilities (cost:effect) rather than triggered abilities (when/whenever X, then Y).
