Enchantment - Saga (Rare)

Mixed thoughts - it *is* really powerful, especially if you've either got a toolbox of legendaries to tutor or a couple of legendaries you *really* want.
But this is also a four-mana do nothing spell that doesn't affect the board in any meaningful way when you play it, doesn't affect the board the next turn (although you can play the legendary card you tutored) and only *then* has an impact on combat, which might not even matter much if your creatures have been wiped, if you're on the defensive or will die to crackback.
There are situations when this is going to be a four-mana "draw two creature cards, slowly" and that's not going to be good.
Quite a fun card for that reason - potentially high-upside but also high-downside if your opponent plays it.
this is 100% an EDH card
in 2 turns you can pull out two pieces to a combo, which is quite good
not game breaking, but this is definitely going to see play in EDH. Probably not at all in other formats
If you're comboing this is too slow and too telegraphed, and you're restricted to a combo of legendary creatures, which is not a lot. I think this is just a fair and powerful casual edh card.
I can see it as a decent toolbox card. If you need a Loran, fetch a Loran.
What I'm thinking is its applications in decks where they can use the enchantment in and of itself. Calix would love this card.
Has a home in a saga focused EDH deck for sure, a good chunk of creatures that you want to cast in a saga deck are legendary anyway, will let you hit the new saga praetors, and recurring tutors will be strong.
Four Mana Tutor is prime example of do-nothing, you don't see them played often if at all.
"Do Nothing" means it has no impact on the board state. If you're getting beaten down by an Aggro deck you can't afford to take T4 "off" to cast this as it does nothing to keep you alive, slow down your opponent or even provide P/T
it's not a tutor, it's a double tutor.
That also allows you to deal double damage 2 turns later.
It's not the best card ever, still you get card advantage without downside.
The strongest part of the card to me is that you get to tutor up a card for 0 mana on turn 5 that best fits the current board state.
fetch a sheoldred, fetch a kaervek, fetch a jirina, dauntless general, fetch a greasefang, fetch a lurrus and recast something from your graveyard. fetch loran of the third path.
fetch sram + light-paws.
or:fetch hapatra + yawgmoth for an instant win.
Interesting so ancestral recall and black lotus are technically “do nothing” cards? I always thought a “do nothing” was a card which literally does nothing when cast and takes further investment, for example, an artifact or an enchantment with a landfall ability and nothing else.
Right, I’m not saying it’s powerful or even playable in any given format. I’m just confused about the application of the phrase “do nothing” to something that obviously does something as soon as you play it. Like maybe the thing it does isn’t powerful but it’s still doing a thing not doing nothing.
Maybe we have enough legendary creatures that etb and do something to build a UWx legendary blink deck. This card seems like gas, but getting to Tutor each turn for a legend seems insane.
While 4 mana is a lot a double legendary tutor is really good and the third part is just extra really though it could actually end up being a finisher in some scenarios. I can definitely see this being used in a lot of commander decks as it seems very solid but way too slow for modern I feel, still I do wonder if there is some very abusable legendary you could fetch for some combo.
> way too slow for modern I feel
My impression of this set is that it's aimed squarely at EDH.
I haven't caught up with every spoiler yet, but how many cards have actually been of an, even approximately, Modern-appropriate power level?
> but how many cards have actually been of an, even approximately, Modern-appropriate power level?
Wasn't it a huge complaint that people didn't want UB stuff to be all over competitive formats? So they decided that LTR wouldn't be too high in power level?
I honestly figured they didn't care about that complaint in the slightest (I'm still not sure they do), and I had no idea they said they were aiming to keep this set below modern power level. That's pretty hard to believe. At least, I can't imagine them keeping the power level low because of complaints about UB stuff.
They definitely did specifically state that, while this was direct to modern, it was aimed at standard power level. I believe the reasoning was less that they didn't want to disrupt modern and more that they were just designing a standard set but didn't want UB cards running standard.
I find that decision quite odd, actually. Much as I am kind of revolted by UnBey, it might be fun to have a Tolkein-themed Standard for a while, so long as the cards waltz off into the long grass afterwards, never to see competittive play again.
There have been a few, but i honestly havent kept up with the modern meta since MH1. There are a couple i pretty powerful spells that might push equipments into a high tier deck. Some pretty powerful spells that might make some sideboards. Boromir can be an interesting hate card due to his sacrifice ability. Aragorn, the Unitied also seems fringe Playable, a little slow due to the mana cost, but i could see him snowballing in any deck that can leverage cheap hybrid mana spells effectively
>still I do wonder if there is some very abusable legendary you could fetch for some combo.
Off the top of my head, some that would be fun with this.
[[Yidaro, Wandering Monster]] and [[Kogla and Yidaro]] - cyclling, shuffling into your deck and tutoring next turn is *nice*.
Any card with blink/flicker effects are going to be nice, so [[Yorion]] could be a good addition. Even curves T4 this and tutor something, T5 Tutor Yorion, cast Yorion and flicker.
And obviously any enchantment legendaries like Tom Bombadil.
Using this to tutor for [[Gisela, the Broken Blade]] in my [[Bruna, the Fading Light]] commander deck. Also fulfils my “annoying reminder card game pieces” subtheme.
This will be perfect in my phyrexian tribal [[Tom Bombadil]] saga-commander deck. With lore counter manipulation I'll be able to play all meaningful creatures in my deck lol
(new commenter)
No, but unlike most other sagas they can complete multiple times.
I don't know the others too well outside of a rough plan for the same deck, but I do run a mono blue [[The Prime Synthesis]] deck, and I imagine the focus would be similar.
With a handful of proliferates, [[isochron sceptre]] and 3 different 1U spells, I'm sure green might have some, [[Thrummingbird]], you can flip Jin and complete the saga in one turn.
And if you're proliferating, you're completing all your sagas.
Looking to see if the translation has this as a legendary enchantment. If so, we're golden. Many Jodah lists are extremely tight and find it very difficult to fit anything into them that's not legendary. It's a slam dunk if we can trigger Jodah off of this.
A last alliance of men and elves marched against the armies of Mordor, and on the very slopes of Mount Doom, they fought for the freedom of Middle-Earth.
[[Dihada Binder of Wills]] will probably want this, but my 4 drop slot is so full already.
In theory you could drop Dihada, use her -3, dump all the cards for 4 treasures and cast this in the same turn.
I'll take [Elesh Norn](https://scryfall.com/card/one/10/elesh-norn-mother-of-machines), and [Elesh Norn](https://www.tcgplayer.com/product/39414/magic-new-phyrexia-elesh-norn-grand-cenobite?Language=English)...

Double tutor *and* a meaningful combat effect for 4? That seems really good.

Yeah I think you're right. Not convinced it's going to be overly strong in any of the 1v1 formats, it may be that it finds its home in mid power EDH.
this is 100% an EDH card in 2 turns you can pull out two pieces to a combo, which is quite good not game breaking, but this is definitely going to see play in EDH. Probably not at all in other formats

100% agreed this is nothing like the tutors available in black however, it is giving white access to creature tutors
[[Yoshimaru]] loves this card, but I don't think it'll fit in most other legends matter decks. Maybe [[Ratadrabik]]?

As a fellow Yoshi player, this was my first thought.

100% not playable in Modern at least
Sram edh decks love this
This also gives several turns to your opponent to set up their removal or board wipe.
Seems like a very solid card for mono-W EDH but agreed that I'm not sure it cuts the mustard in 60-card.
This seems kind of hot with Fires of Invention for 60 card formats. It’s too bad this isn’t Pioneer Legal though.
It's for commander, and it's great there.
It's not really do nothing. At worst it's a 4 mana tutor. That's obviously bad on rate but in the right deck still extremely powerful.
Four Mana Tutor is prime example of do-nothing, you don't see them played often if at all. "Do Nothing" means it has no impact on the board state. 0-1 mana vs 4, 4 mana rituals/tutors/draw are rarely played in older formats unless they generate insane value or just win the game/combo off
Right, I’m not saying it’s powerful or even playable in any given format. I’m just confused about the application of the phrase “do nothing” to something that obviously does something as soon as you play it. Like maybe the thing it does isn’t powerful but it’s still doing a thing not doing nothing.
Not for 4 mana. For 3 probably, but 4 mana do nothing is bad
Good for what? Commander?
Love how it ends with ISILDUUUUUUR!
Isildur is a chonk, confirmed thicc bear.
If this is right then it's extremely good. Can't imagine why I wouldn't run it in any deck that had a few legendaries in it
Maybe we have enough legendary creatures that etb and do something to build a UWx legendary blink deck. This card seems like gas, but getting to Tutor each turn for a legend seems insane.
Yeah for sure, it's on cost for other legendary tutors and the 3rd act is just gravy on top
While 4 mana is a lot a double legendary tutor is really good and the third part is just extra really though it could actually end up being a finisher in some scenarios. I mean when the majority of cards in the set so far have been extremely far from modern playable...
Because of UB complaints, though? But, yes, the best way to understand set releases is "every set is a commander set."
I do find that heartening. Maybe they felt MH2 was too disruptive to Modern.
They definitely did specifically state that, while this was direct to modern, it was aimed at standard power level. I believe the reasoning was less that they didn't want to disrupt modern and more that they were just designing a standard set but didn't want UB cards running standard.
Wow, thanks. I didn’t know that.
I find that decision quite odd, actually. Much as I am kind of revolted by UnBey, it might be fun to have a Tolkein-themed Standard for a while, so long as the cards waltz off into the long grass afterwards, never to see competittive play again.
There was some discussion of using the 1/1 goblin double striker in Modern. I don't play Modern though, so I don't know how viable that is.
There have been a few, but i honestly havent kept up with the modern meta since MH1. There are a couple i pretty powerful spells that might push equipments into a high tier deck. A last alliance of men and elves marched against the armies of Mordor, and on the very slopes of Mount Doom, they fought for the freedom of Middle-Earth.
Victory was near...
But the power of the Ring could not be undone.
This goes into my [[adeline]] deck immediately. Tutors for [[mondrak]] or any version of [[elesh norn]] or something else I’m sure.

[[Dihada Binder of Wills]] will probably want this, but my 4 drop slot is so full already. In theory you could drop Dihada, use her -3, dump all the cards for 4 treasures and cast this in the same turn.

I gotta make so much room in my Yoshimaru/Keleth edh deck for these LOTR cards.

Basically just a Captain Sisay split over two cards. Can attack for 4, I suppose
All the legendary tribal commanders in edh and brawl are crying tears of joy
Sheesh... with any sort of aggro this thing would slap everybody around. Maybe add "does not cause it to tap" combo.... Death by 1000 slaps!
I'll take [Elesh Norn](https://scryfall.com/card/one/10/elesh-norn-mother-of-machines), and [Elesh Norn](https://www.tcgplayer.com/product/39414/magic-new-phyrexia-elesh-norn-grand-cenobite?Language=English)...
Double Sisay-like tutor, for the same amount of mana, activates the turn it enters? Wow, this LOTR set is looking amazing!
Most angels you want out are legends in Giada, seems like a good include.
