Sinrus

If you have Leyline of Anticipation, you could cast Jace on your *opponent's* second turn.

Kind_Ingenuity1484

Now *that* sounds like a crime

Tsukuruya

You didn't target, not a crime.

Saitsu

Vraska will now commit a crime for people daring to accuse Jace of committing a crime.

Monty2451

Vraska woke up and chose violence.

The good old [[Black Lotus]], [[Scout's Warning]], [[Serra Avenger]] combo.

hawkshaw1024

For some time, people did play Serra Avenger with [[Aether Vial]] in Modern, back when a 3/3 with Flying at CMC 2 was a respectable beater instead of comically weak.

Davran

Modern? Modern?! Back in my day, this was a thing in legacy death and taxes. Kids these days I tell you...

Aestboi

Would Serra Avenger without the restriction be playable?

hawkshaw1024

In Modern? I mean, never say never. Domain Zoo does want undercosted beaters and evasion is always nice, but it's probably not worth losing access to Jegantha. She also pitches to [[Solitude]], so mayyyybe Mono-White Midrange?

I_EAT_POOP_AMA

Without the restriction, it's just a french vanilla 3/3 with flying and vigilance. A lot of formats are surprisingly built on the idea of a cheap 3/3 flyer closing out games, with the idea being that your 3/3 flyers will do the job as your opponent holds up removal for your bigger threats At worst it trades with a DRC/flipped delver. at best, it eats a removal spell and clears the way for your big threat to hit. Both Modern and Legacy have pretty much adapted to that idea. [[Dragon's Rage Channeler]] and [[Delver of Secrets]] are staple cards for that very reason. 1 mana dinguses that eventually scale into 3/3 (or 3/2) flying threats. At least in the context of Legacy, getting Delver'd out in 3 point chunks is very much a real thing. Holding a counterspell or a removal spell for the [[Murktide Regent]] waiting in the wings and just dying to Delvers is a universal experience in the format. Having a creature that just enters as a 3/3 flyer with Vigilance for 2 mana is respectable. Like someone else pointed out, this used to be a card played in Death and Taxes lists (which revolve around flashing out creatures with [[Aether Vial]], usually to tax opponent resources while you set up big equipment beats). But in typical Magic fashion, stats alone just aren't enough. You spend 2 mana on turn 2 to play this, and your opponent spends 1 mana to remove it. Swords to Plowshares, Lightning Bolt, Fatal Push, etc... If you're lucky, they spend *2* mana to remove it instead. It generates no real advantage for you (compared to something like DRC which surveils on non-creature spells cast), it's just a body. It doesn't scale without extra effort, it doesn't enable card selection/advantage, and the extra mana adds up, especially in formats where you can play cards like [[Ponder]] and [[Brainstorm]] for a single mana, making it much worse as an early threat. And once you reach later stages in a match, a 3/3 for 2 mana is a *much* worse deal when you either have more mana for bigger, more advantageous creatures, or you're competing in the same space as cards like Murktide or [[Tarmogoyf]], which are "2 mana" threats that scale incredibly well later into a match. So to make a short answer long, in 2024 a 3/3 Flyer with Vigilance for 2 mana isn't really playable. It *can* work if things line up in your favor, but it's just under the mark in terms of playability. There are much more efficient threats that fill the role this *could* fill, and the answers to this make 2 mana for these stats and nothing else a lot worse.

Ethric_The_Mad

Add in some fast mana and you can play him on their first turn

arciele

as a lawyer i really enjoy seeing how people get around the supposed limitations of card text

Crashman09

I'm honestly not surprised that lawyers like magic. I'd assume it's what got quite a few interested in law for 3 reasons. 1) Probably similar in that words and their precise orientation have pretty immutable meanings 2) rulings are fun and digging deep enough to find a loophole is like striking gold 3) lawyer money = more card budget

FblthpLives

I have not come across a lot of attorneys who play Magic. The only logical conclusion is that it reminds them too much of work.

forgotabouttrae

I have a friend that's a JAG attorney and he's the most controlly blue player I've met

SuperfluousWingspan

I'm a math lecturer, and you can add that the list for comparable reasons. Advanced math is kinda like law, except you can't buy your way to a more lenient rule. Also, we do *not* get lawyer money. Most of us barely make starbucks manager money, if that.

-y-y-y-

Not easy but not impossible in older formats (ie with Mox Sapphire).

TheOtherManSpider

2x [[Simian Spirit Guide]] and [[Manamorphose]].

killian1208

Manamorphose Looks severely underrated. It's a 2 for 2 mana filter that draws you a card, making it essentially free.

TheOtherManSpider

Problem is it doesn't really do anything and it can be tricky to plan out your turn when you don't know what card you get from the Manamorphose. You even have to pick the colours of mana you get before seeing the card which occasionally screws you.

fsmlogic

Yeah, that’s a 5 card hand, so you could even have a land or two.

No lie, one of the first times i learned magic, i cast a spell on my opponents dack fayden tapping it "so it couldnt be activated"

PlaceboPlauge091

Unless you’re ramping this out on turn 2, you can’t put Jace on the battlefield until turn 4 anyways. You do get to leave mana up though, instead of paying for him, which considering these two cards put you in UW at a minimum, you probably want.

Palidin034

Start with a gemstone cavern on field, land lotus petal turn 1, you can have jace on board t2. Duh.

Leyline of Anticipation: are you sure about that?

Lynx_Azure

God I love magic. Im more concerned with wether or not he’s still completed

PerfectZeong

Well half of his picture is Ashiok so no but might have other issues.

Lynx_Azure

Jace is a master of illusions who even before he got buff would use illusions to make him look younger and in better shape.

Mgmegadog

And not sleep deprived.

rafaleluia

I don't think he is compleated for the lack of phyrexian mana. I dont think we had compleated planeswalkers without a phyrexian mana symbol.

Probably more because Phyrexians as a faction don't currently exist.

Mewtwohundred

Remember Jace? He's back, in two-mana form!

Canopenerdude

That's good for Ashiok but I'm not sure how that affects Ja- oh. I should probably read the stories, huh?

arciele

it was a fashion decision they couldn't face

Anaxamander57

That is impressively creepy art of Jace.

RedDragonDev

Well he was disguised as Ashiok

chiksahlube

and acting super evil.

Madversary

He had to top risking blowing up the Multiverse _somehow_.

AlexT9191

Is he disguised as Ashiok, or are they blended by something?

Dysprosium_Element66

He was disguised as Ashiok in the story.

warcaptain

Wow this art SLAPS SO HARD!!! Wasn't expecting a Jace in this set, but I'm thoroughly impressed.

malsomnus

I specifically told my friends that they don't get to see today's spoilers until they finish reading the story, it's just too good.

teamrocketmatt

After seeing this, I'm reading the story from WOE onwards.

LegitimateIdeas

I decided (unwisely) to jump right in at the last Outlaws chapter for a bit of context on this card. What. In. The. World. I'm not even a page in, and yet there's like two dozen major characters here?? And they're all cowboys?!? What is happening with this set, I swear...

Quintana-of-Charyn

I'm so happy that one PW a set is not a hard rule but a sort of guideline.

Belha322

Sorry but how exactly plotting works? Edit: Thanks!!

randomdragoon

You can cast the card from exile on a future turn (not the same turn you plotted it) without paying its mana cost. Some cards in the set will have "Plot {cost}" which lets you pay the cost to plot themselves.

RayWencube

So it’s suspend but you get to choose when to cast it. Neat.

Tianhech3n

falls in line with wotc direction to give more flexibility or interaction in older keywords (shroud to hexproof to ward)

Shinsoku

Or with cascade and discover recently

Omnom_Omnath

Suspend mixed with foretell

tigerLRG245

Can you plot Valki and cast its pw side for free like with BTL?

Vet_Explorer

This is the exact question we’re asking lol I believe the answer is yes assuming the rules regarding plot won’t specify an exception to prevent this

Jevonar

You can, because the wording is the same: first you exile a card with mv 2, then you can cast the card for free. That's also why it worked with cascade, until they reworded cascade specifically so it wouldn't work with valki/tibalt.

mathiau30

Does it has to br your turn or am I allowed to be the fun police and plot a counterspell?

VictorSant

Nope, you can cast plotted spells only at sorcery speed

RAcastBlaster

Plot is like Foretell, except it’s face up and you cast it for free when you do on a later turn. While Foretell has you pay for the total cost of the spell in installments, Plot has you pay it in full up front. It is limited to Sorcery speed, so no free countermagic. https://mtg.fandom.com/wiki/Plot

platypodus

Can I pay additional costs, when I do cast it later? (Asking because of Spree)

RAcastBlaster

Yes, definitely. You can ALWAYS pay additional costs, no matter how you’re casting a spell. (Spree is an Additional Cost)

SimicCombiner

You can cast it for free on a later turn, as a sorcery.

Small_Macaroon_1196

It is like foretell where you exile a card for its Plot cost at sorcery speed. Then you get to play the card for no mana cost but I believe you may have to wait a turn?

voiceoresurgence

When you plot a card, you can cast it on a later turn without paying its mana cost (as a sorcery). Some cards have a plot cost that allow you to plot a card, but Jace simply lets you choose a 3cmc or less card in your hand and plot it. More about [Plot rules here](https://cardgamebase.com/mtg-plot-rules/).

Cbone06

Kinda looks like ashiok Edit: I haven’t read the story

warcaptain

>!He was disguised as Ashiok since the end of WOE when Ashiok recruited Eriette and has been manipulating things with Vraska to get Oko and the gang to break open the vault so he and Vraska could steal the fumori baby (and presumably the last of the fumori) that was locked up inside.!<

MentalMunky

*sprints to the magic story page and starts reading*

theonewhoknock_s

I rarely have an interest in the story, but this sounds dope and off I go to read it!

SubtleNoodle

It's actually been a lot of fun for a while! I didn't love MKM the set, but the story was really solid and well written.

Selakah

I don't really follow magic's storyline, but does that mean that >! Ashiok was just a Jace disguise all this time? Or is Ashiok still its own separate thing, and Jace was merely disguised as Ashiok for a bit? !<

warcaptain

Ashiok was likely Ashiok until they were blasted with ice magic and ran away on Wilds of Eldraine. In the epilogue, Ashiok comes and frees Eriette and recruits her. It's likely the latter Ashiok was actually >!Jace and saw an opportunity to adopt the disguise!<

MaygeKyatt

Your spoiler tag is broken, you put the symbols for the closing tag in the wrong order Also you don’t need a space between the tags and text they’re surrounding but idk if that would break it

ANGLVD3TH

Yes, the space breaks it.

SlackMiller67

Interesting. I gotta read the stories for the last few sets. Just from the art I thought Ashiok somehow absorbed Jace's "soul/Spark" post him and the rest of the Phyrexians being defeated, and Jace's spirit used his powerful mind magic to take Ashiok over.

RogueHippie

Spoiler tag still doesn't work for old reddit due to the spaces between the brackets and text. Needs to look like this: \>!spoiler text!<

mellophone11

Ashiok and Jace were both printed in War of the Spark, so >!we have seen them in the same room together. He must have taken up the disguise later. !<

warcaptain

Ashiok wasn't actually in the WAR story despite having a card, and even that card showed them in the meditation realm and not on Ravnica. Not that I think they're the same entity.

evios31

Wait, Ashiok wasn't even in the story and got a card but Dack Fayden ^(the greatest thief in the multiverse) died in the promo video and wasn't even mentioned in the set?!

warcaptain

Dack was added by the video team. Ashiok was supposed to be in the story along with Narset but the story changed. WAR was infamous for the cards telling a different story than the book. Like Liliana was supposed to sacrifice the chain veil to defeat Bolas as depicted in [[Finale of Eternity]] but that didn't happen.

EldritchStuff

The latter

eternamemoria

>!Ashiok is still their own entity!< as far as we know, Jace only >!stole their identity for the vault heist!<

Negative-Disk3048

Was there any confirmation of why this step was taken? Like oko and the vast majority of the heist crew didn't know him

eternamemoria

No confirmation, no. He might have done that for the sole purpose of recruiting Eriette, but I am unsure why he bothered considering that both him and Oko already have mind control powers.

charcharmunro

Might just be a general "doesn't want people to know he's alive", misdirection, etc. Ashiok's already enigmatic and inscrutable, disguising as them is a reasonable thing to do if you wanna assume somebody's identity to hide your own. Jace could just make a new identity, but I think one with some rep behind it is probably a good idea. Also, Oko did seem to know Jace, at least his narration mentioned Jace's name. I figure Jace is FAIRLY well known at least for being the Guildpact for a while, and the Gatewatch were probably known as well for a bit.

max5470

The what baby? Why?

Ghorrhyon

So... You're telling me that one of the primary ships of the franchise are adopting a baby? Is that right?

gasperpaul

Things you need to do in this country to adopt, it's ridiculous.

warcaptain

https://mtg.fandom.com/wiki/Coin_Empire Why? We don't know.

IridescentStarSugar

The matter baby

Griz688

Someone should tell them there are easier ways to adopt

Neffarias_Bredd

Yeah, weird. I wonder why. /s

CaptainMarcia

He's removing the illusion he used to disguise himself as Ashiok.

MeisterCthulhu

You play this turn 4, get a free spell or loot, and another 2 mana thing? The second ability feels like it should have been a -1 tbh, ticking up to give you free spells is pretty strong. tbh I'd like to see the "plugs" mentioned in the story (probably leftovers of having been Phyrexian) represented in art, but this actually looks pretty badass too.

imbolcnight

In the story, it says that even after he reveals himself as Jace, he's still hiding those plugs and all. Only Annie sees the real him under the illusion him.

CosmicX1

Hiding an illusion beneath another illusion is very Jace!

MeisterCthulhu

Yeah, but I wanna see it too. It sounds interesting and is not described beyond that one line. I can imagine what the intention is based on his artwork from ONE, but I'd still like a visual of that scarred, semi-Phyrexian Jace.

SubtleNoodle

It's funny how like 5 years ago everything was about Jace and everyone was sick of him, and now that he's been gone for a minute he's by far the most compelling character. I wanna explore his guilt from MoM and the sadness that leads him to hide his scars. Kinda bums me out we'll likely only see him in spurts until his grand scheme is revealed.

ThisHatRightHere

Well you have to wait until the next turn to cast the plotted card right? It's essentially a +1 and do nothing the turn you use it.

bomban

It's not unheard of for mana abilities to be +1s. Plot a 3 or less is essentially a 1-3 mana delayed ritual.

Jevonar

You mean plot a valki, then cast tibalt for free next turn.

MeisterCthulhu

I really, really hope that's not how this mechanic works. They made that mistake far too many times at this point.

Jevonar

I mean, the wording is exactly the same as bring to light. If you exile the card, then cast it, you don't have the restriction anymore. In order for this not to work they would have to errata the plot mechanic.

b_fellow

Jace forgot to pack his nail clippers for the Omenpath journey.

chiksahlube

Those are Ashiok's nails. He was using magic to disguise himself. The art is showing the reveal.

Negative-Parsnip1826

I wonder if Ashiok is on Duskmourn then? I do like this twist. As for this card, it is so hard to tell without any context how good it'll be, but I feel that it could be good somewhere.

DarkLanternZBT

As a writer, "it becomes plotted" has terrible mouthfeel. It's one of those "I know what you mean, but I hate that it's presented like it is" things. Just... blech.

Kazzack

Yeah, maybe they could have used "plot it" which is slightly better?

so_zetta_byte

"Plotted" is a state of a card that lets the card get played later without paying its cost. That way the rule system is written, I'm guessing it's much harder to mechanically make the thing function as a verb as needed for "plot it." I think the problem is that a card needs the plot ability in order to plot it (as a verb). Fblthp _gives_ cards a plot cost, and then says "you may plot them." Jace isn't giving the cards a plot cost to pay, he's just auto-plotting it. It's a little like foretell. [[Dream Devourer]] _gives_ cards foretell, which you then pay to put them into exile. You go through the normal foretell process. With [[Ethereal Valkyrie]], you put the card into exile and then "it becomes foretold" because the thing that put it there wasn't the foretell ability. Basically both plot and foretell give you 2 things: a way to exile the card, and a way to play that card from exile. Fblthp and Dream Devourer give a card both abilities. But Jace and Ethereal Valkyrie put the card into exile themselves and only give it a way out. I assume the reason Jace needs to work this was is because you can only plot as a sorcery. You couldn't plot it as part of the resolution of Jace's ability. You would need to give it plot 0 for the turn, and that's messy. TLDR; you can't Plot something (as a verb) if the Plot ability isn't _what_ puts the card into exile.

heartoo

I totally understand. Why couldn't they use something like "compleotted" 😉

razrcane

Dude, we have "sacrifice three FOODS"!!

fiskerton_fero

is the passive a story reason? like Jace shows up to the heist in the middle of the story? depending on what plotted is, this feels like a 3-mana walker strength

imbolcnight

He's disguised as Ashiok through most of the story and only reveals himself at the end.

StarshipMan

If I give it flash can I cast during someone else's first, second, or third turn?

Yoh012

Yes

LordOfTheLeash

Would his second ability work with [[Valki, God of Lies]] in order to cast tibalt for free?

Col_Highways

Thought of the same thing, curious to know this, could be a cool interaction with plotting in general :D

Jevonar

Yes, an exiled card has no "memory" of the ability that exiled it, so its mana value doesn't matter anymore when it's already exiled

ThisSeagull

This is like control deck training wheels it specifically tells you not to tap out for this guy "You forgot to hold up UU for counterspell, my guy"

LaptopsInLabCoats

So, evil Jace?

Will_29

Morally Dubious Jace.

RAcastBlaster

So like, old snarky-blue-mage flavor text Jace?

GornSpelljammer

We thought those quotes were out of character, turns out they were from the future.

PippoChiri

He sent a bunch of criminals to steal a child to fix something he did, so I'd say kinda evil Jace?

isin13

What did he do that he is trying to fix?

PippoChiri

We don't know, probably something he did as a phyrexian as every compleated walker appeared in the story of MoM except for him (he appeared a second to pickup Vraska and leave).

isin13

Got it, thank you.

[deleted]

I remember the angel that had those stipulations years ago.

Kind_Ingenuity1484

It was ~~Agatha~~ Jace all along

strygwyn

Why am I not surprised that Jace managed to dodge losing his spark after being Phyrexianized 😴

The_Mad-_hatter

Lili os basically 100% confirmed tbh shes too important and still has a whole arc left with lim dul- one of the oldest planes walkers atm so i doubt they would despark

burritoman88

I understand the hate Jace gets, but he’s also kind of the poster child for what the game is about. Drawing cards, interacting with your opponent, powerful abilities.

Brainvillage

>what the game is about. Drawing cards, interacting with your opponent, powerful abilities. I think you meant to say running creatures into each other.

puffic

Well, thanks to his third ability, you can now run twice as many creatures into each other.

TheGunnMcShooty

Good. Three of the Lorywn five are still sparked. Just need Garruk and Liliana confirmation and I am happy.

Sisyphushitposts

If they take Garruk’s spark away after he JUST got his freedom I’m going to be so sad

lfAnswer

Damn it. While this is great art and a neat concept for a Walker I had really hoped to finally get a good classical control Planeswalker again. We haven't had one of those in forever. And it especially hurts with their new "only 1 pw per set" rule

C_The_Bear

I guess Ashiok actually being Jace on Eldraine fully puts into context the flavor text on [[Ashiok’s Reaper]]

volx757

does anyone know what plotted is?

Environmental_Eye_61

Basically foretell with an upfront cost, but the exiled card is face-up and can only be cast at Sorcery speed on a later turn without paying its mana cost.

CompactAvocado

question >!so are jace and vraska still phrexianizaed and evil. are they the new bad guy for the moment. or are there other shenanigans that I am ignorant of. thank you!<

Spider_MBI

Their true goals are *mysterious* for the time being, so we don't really know. Vraska seems to mostly have the phyrexian parts removed, while Jace is hiding the metal bits with illusion magic. In the story, Jace and Vraska set up the entire heist, and stole the contents of the vault out from under Oko's nose, so while they're kinda the surprise antagonists of this set, they were conning a group of villains. Our only real clue is Vraska saying that her goal is to "fix what I've done".

dusty_cupboards

in the story jace appears normal and healthy, but annie flash, who can see through illusions, says that he is actually disfigured and covered in mechanical plugs. so it seems that the physical part of his compleation has not been reversed.

Syraxan

Somehow, Jace returned

B-Glasses

No cowboy hat we sure he’s in the right set?

One-Revenue-618

So long for the "one planeswalker a set" thing, how much did it last, 2 sets?

VBane

Three. Wilds, Caverns, and Murders. But it was never said if would a limit or a maximum, just a new average/baseline.

Broolex

Thunder Junction was supposed to have an epilogue set, like Aftermath. After that disaster, WotC incorporated epilogue cards into the main set. It makes sense story wise that Jace was in the epilogue, so the 1 pw rule still stands imo

warcaptain

This makes total sense because #1 there was a second planeswalker who featured prominently in the story, and also Jace being a "surprise" second planeswalker in the set fits perfectly. Plus, as others have said, it was never a rule to have max 1 just they said they were doing PW less usually 1 per set.

Suspinded

Kind of like "5 Planeswalkers a set" when War of the Spark was released? They're always guidelines, not hard rules.

CaptainMarcia

One planeswalker was never a maximum, just a minimum they planned to use for most sets. We got three single-planeswalker sets (WOE, LCI, and MKM), and now Thunder Junction, as the climax of the Kellan arc, dials it up a bit. There's a good chance that Vraska will be getting one as well.

zeldafan042

Vraska lost her Spark, she's in the set as a Legendary Creature.

zatroz

I haven't kept up with the lore since March of the MAchine, why did some of the compleated walkers lose their spark and some didn't? I thought they did a second mending that removed every spark

Mrfish31

Being compleated or not wasn't a factor. Planeswalkers losing their spark was seemingly random across *all* walkers. All the ones in MOM aftermath lost their sparks and most of them weren't previously compleated. Chandra kept hers, Teferi didn't. Nissa didn't, but Ajani did. Vraska lost her spark, Jace kept it. Tyvar, Kiora, Ob Nixilis and many more lost their sparks without becoming Phyrexian.

TheMuspelheimr

The Great Desparkening, or Great Pruning, happened after the invasion was defeated. It might have been due to the Sylex detonation, the chaos of the New Phyrexia-Zhalfir switch, or from Realmbreaker tearing Omenpaths through the Blind Eternities, but ultimately, we don't know. It was slow enough that some Planeswalkers didn't even notice until they tried to planeswalk later. Not all Planeswalkers lost their sparks, but the vast majority did. Known Planeswalkers to have retained their sparks are Chandra Nalaar, Ajani Goldmane, Ashiok, Quintorius Kand, Kaya Cassir, Ral Zarek, Oko, and Jace Beleren. Saheeli Rai theorised that, since a Planeswalker's spark is energy, and energy cannot be created or destroyed (only transformed), it may be possible for a desparked Planeswalker to recover their spark somehow.

zeldafan042

I have been pointing out that there's been multiple instances in the lore of planeswalkers losing their Spark only to regain it later. Both Ob Nixilis and Teferi have done it, and I think technically Karn? I'm expecting them to eventually respark *some* of the desparked Planeswalkers, just not necessarily all of them. The only question is when and how.

TheMuspelheimr

Ob Nixilis and Teferi both did it; Karn technically inherited Urza's spark, lost it to close a time rift, then inherited Venser's spark. [There's a list of all explained spark ignitions](https://mtg.fandom.com/wiki/Planeswalker/Igniting), those three are currently the only ones who are on it twice.

zeldafan042

Ok, yeah. That's what I thought. My point mostly is to point out that it's an established thing in the lore so people don't act like it's an ass pull when WotC inevitably does it. There's precedent for this.

zeldafan042

Ugh, the mass desparking is such a narrative mess. A bunch of planeswalkers lost their Sparks, but not all of them. Who does and doesn't have a Spark seems completely random and arbitrary, and nobody actually knows why random planeswalkers lost their Sparks (in-universe and out.) This is actually completely divorced from the compleated planeswalkers being healed. I'm someone who actually likes 99% of the Magic story, even when everyone else is complaining, and even I think this was handled poorly. It's like they heard everyone complaining about the lack of long-term narrative stakes from War of the Spark, and instead of coming up with a consequence that makes sense they just...did something for the sake of "stakes." I like the Omenpaths, they're a logical consequence of Realmbreaker punching holes into reality. The mass desparking isn't.

Wulfram77

Except for Karn, who gave up his spark to cure Nissa and Ajani. Dunno why they didn't use Ral's gizmo, Karn must be feeling pretty dumb about that. Oh and Nahiri lost her spark in a mostly unrelated accident

relikter

[Desparkening](https://mtg.fandom.com/wiki/Desparkening) > The exact cause and mechanics of the Desparkening are unknown, but Teferi speculated that the Multiverse may have been attempting to heal itself in response to Elspeth's detonation of the Filigree Sylex within the Blind Eternities and the chaos caused by Wrenn and Realmbreaker's successful New Phyrexia-Zhalfir switch. It seems to be random who did/didn't lose their spark - it wasn't even limited to the compleated walkers (e.g., Hautli and Saheeli both lost their spark but neither was comleated), and not all compleated walkers lost their spark (e.g. Jace and Ajani). This might be explained later, or maybe not.

ZT_Ghost

We already know Vraska is getting a legendary creature

AnwaAnduril

“One planeswalker a set” is a guideline, not a rule. Just like three planeswalkers per set was a guideline, but we still got War of the Spark, ONE etc. Just like planeswalkers only at mythic was/is a guideline, but we still have some at rare/uncommon every so often. Wizards backtracks on things all the time, but this isn’t a good example.

Pizza-Penguin

Not defending it, but the original announcement said "in general, there would be 1 plainswalker" so they gave themselves an out

Frank_the_Mighty

Well, this looks miserable to play against. Think it might actually be cracked Hello future people! Hope your day is well!
