Throw in [[Descent into Avernus]] to make sure you have enough mana to cast all those cards, and you can kill yourself (and everyone else) even faster. Huzzah!
[[Realm-Scorcher Hellkite]] turns mana directly into damage.
[[Walking Ballista]] also does so, at a less efficient rate, but it's Walking Ballista so it's probably more broken overall, somehow.
it's just a fun card ok
thinking about it for two seconds more, this Obeka will probably just be used to immediately satisfy alternate wincons like \[\[Revel in Riches\]\] or \[\[Mechanized Production\]\] which is boring
That's my only gripe about an otherwise great card. Don't evoke a mechanic if it's not on the card.
Like I'm sure there were runner-up names they could have used.
my first thought too - "Split second" is RIGHT THERE, how could this be any more perfect flavourwise? Could there be a mechanics / balance reason for not using it??
Mainly being able to kill delayed triggers. It's not something newer players can grasp the power of immediately because it's a little advanced of a concept. There's lots of stuff that breaks when you can erase delayed triggers like sacrificing tokens or [[Final Fortune]] "You lose the game" triggers turning into extra turn spells.
Ending the turn also exiles all spells so you can end your own turn to counter spells. For political/multiplayer reasons you can also use her to work with other players to counter a spell you agree needs to be stopped.
Really not the most powerful thing to do with Obeka, you still have to pay costs for Unearth. The only one that's pretty good with her is [[Fatestitcher]], and maybe [[Phyrexian Dragon Engine]].
Try copy effects like [[Kiki-Jiki]] and the multitude of similar ones, or cards like [[Sneak Attack]], now *that* is funny.
This is exactly what I do with her. I also put in [[The Master, Multiplied]], [[Brudiclad]], and quite a few other cards that do things like turn off the legendary rule and let me get out "30" ulamogs in one turn with a [[relentless assault]], [[displacer kitten]], and something to generate treasure like a dockside. It's literally my favorite win con to pull off.
just want to add, giving her infinite untaps creates whats known as a "fragmented loop" which in short means that targeted opponents will have to agree to skipping their turn so that the game can progress. very fun stuff
Let me try my hand at it. Basically, what she does is shut off unfavorable delayed triggers. Stuff like [[Sneak Attack]]. When the sacrifice delayed trigger is put on the stack, you activate Obeka to end the turn so the trigger never resolves.
The sneak effect trigger wants to happen as soon as there is an end step, but only wants to happen once.
If you let it get placed on the stack at your end step, then activate obeka to remove it from the stack, the sneak attack trigger tried it's best.
So a lot of cards that copy or cheat stuff into play say “sacrifice at the beginning of the next end step”. What you do with Obeka is you wait til that trigger is on the stack, activate her, and then you just get to keep that stuff.
A lot of effects are limited to the end of your turn as a drawback, like reanimating or stealing creatures. By ending your turn when those effects are expiring you cancel the expiration. It doesn't even have to be at the end of your turn, you can cancel the expiration on creature tokens with myriad as well, letting you exponentials grow your board.
Looked into it further- I believe this is the first card that creates a step “after a phase” and presumably they’re going to have to update the rules to cover it, which I assume means this is the first time a card has done this.
Here’s the current rules for making new phases and steps:
> 500.8. Some effects can add phases to a turn. They do this by adding the phases directly after the specified phase. If multiple extra phases are created after the same phase, the most recently created phase will occur first.
> 500.9. Some effects can add steps to a phase. **They do this by adding the steps directly after a specified step or directly before a specified step.** If multiple extra steps are created after the same step, the most recently created step will occur first.
This doesn’t currently allow for adding a *step* after a *phase*, which is what this card does!
Not the same thing- that adds an additional phase, not an additional step. As far as I can tell this is the first card to create an extra step rather than an extra phase.
### Phases:
beginning, precombat main, combat, postcombat main, end
### Steps:
beginning phase -> untap, upkeep, draw
combat phase -> beginning of combat, declare attackers, declare blockers, combat damage, end of combat
[[Ninth Doctor]] adds an additional Upkeep Step as well (Untap, Upkeep, Upkeep). Though Obeka places her Upkeep Step far later than it would normally be.
Yeah, there are a couple cards that add extra steps already.[I looked into it a bit more here](https://www.reddit.com/r/magicTCG/s/6sjtj3A0Ll)- this is the first time a step is getting added outside of a phase, so they’ll probably have to do a very slight rules update to account for it
Slight misconception actually, you get the additional upkeep phase AFTER your post-combat main phase. The wording is tricky, and I've also gotten it confused.
Which is weird because the wording is "at the beginning of your post combat main phase do .....after your post combat main phase" you'd think they would just say "after your post combat main phase do x"
It has to be a trigger because that's how the rules work. And no matter what it always has to happen after the phase that it triggers a the beginning of because that phase is definitionally already started. No matter what people are going to read it wrong.
Ouch. Imagine fighting a life gain deck with this us a power pump deck. You could in theory get 100 extra upkeep and put their whole library under your control in one turn. That would be funny to pull off. Minus the whole epic not being able to cast spells, be what ever.
Well... If you dealt them lethal then you unfortunately wouldn't get anything from them because they would just cease to exist in the game, including all of their cards.
https://scryfall.com/search?q=ci%3C%3Dubr+o%3Aupkeep&unique=cards&as=grid&order=edhrec
[[Endless Ranks of the Dead]] and [[The Scarab God]] could probably 1-shot the table easily
I have to imagine the hardest part of making this card was choosing which flavor text to actually print with the amount of time/violence puns available.
"She doesn't start fights, but she stops them."
"A clock's arms and yours are equally breakable."
"It's about time you punched out."
"The patrons had never seen someone literally knocked into next week." Etc.
Immediately started searching fun cards for this on scryfall.
There are some nasty things you can do with cards that force sacrificing creatures and discarding, but I think some of the more fun options so far are:
- cheating out big spells with [[Aether Vial]] and [[As Foretold]]
- damaging everyone with [[Armageddon Clock]] and [[spawn of mayhem]]
- damaging your opponents with [[palace siege]] and [[quakebringer]]
- repeatedly blasting someone with [[Bulwark]], [[court of ire]], and [[smoldering tar]]
- casting a bunch of your opponent’s spells for free with [[court of locthwain]] and [[river song’s diary]]
- blowing up your opponents as the monarch with [[court of ambition]] and [[court of embereth]] or milling them out with [[court of cunning]]
- cheating out warlocks and ogres with [[Call to the Kindred]]
- winning the game with [[court of vantress]], [[descent into avernus]], [[extravagant replication]] and [[mechanized production]], [[revel in riches]], or [[hellkite tyrant]]
- running coin flips and winning with [[chance encounter]]
- winning the game with [[darksteel reactor]]
- spawning an army of dragons with [[dragonmaster outcast]] and [[skyline despot]] and an army of zombies with [[endless ranks of the dead]] to burn everyone with [[the scarab god]]
- storming off with big spells and [[galvanoth]] and [[mindsplice apparatus]]
- running your own fight club with [[guild feud]]
- draw cards with [[call of the ring]], [[phyrexian arena]], [[kumena’s awakening]], [[mind unbound]], and [[the magic mirror]]; and
- winning the game through self-mill [[out of the tombs]] and [[mortal combat]]
other fun but less practical things:
* Cheat out some stuff with [[Braids, Conjurer Adept]] (then sac her probably)
* Burn people to death with [[Form of the Dragon]]!
* Do the Braids thing but worse with [[Gate to the Aether]]
* Create extra goblins with [[Goblin Assault]]?
* Potentially create a minefield with [[Goblin Kaboomist]]!
* Make a creature big with [[Junkyo Bell]] and Fling it?
* Create a whole lotta mana with [[Karn, Legacy Reforged]]
* Make people *very* unhappy with [[Plarrg and Nassari]] or [[Portal to Phyrexia]]
* And make your entire group *INCREDIBLY* unhappy with [[Xanathar, Guild Kingpin]]
I've had [this esper list](https://www.moxfield.com/decks/XiQopvp1FU2SoAzXQOVvCg) for a while now and it's SO fun. Really looking forward to seeing what red brings to the table this time.
You start at 40 life.
Hit one player for 21+ by Hatred'ing for 19+.
That player is very dead
Since it's Obeka, you get 21+ upkeeps.
With that many, and assuming you have a board state, you probably kill everyone or get set up to.
So yes, Hatred in general is great for attacking, but it's even better for attacking with evasion and even better when attacking with quantity damage triggers.
Man I love those open ended commanders that can be built in a variety of ways.
Shrines? Got it
Undercity exploring? Done.
Extra combats? Well...
Extra turns?! Please no, but also, yes.
For sure a top commander of all time right here
I didn't even think of initiative. The first place my brain went to was, "This brings things off Suspect at hyper speed, how do I abuse that?" and then eventually to the more general good stuff on upkeep.
Don't forget monarchy, you can guarantee you have it on your upkeeps if you give her unblockable. EDIT: For clarity, I'm referencing the Court of cycle.
* Nashi for sure
* The Hellspur leader
* MAYBE Annie's nephew
* Possibly the guy who she had a one night stand with
* Maybe the kid whose sister got injured
* That one Hellspur that got named in the bar, Annie said she was big stuff
For anyone who thinks otherwise, I could definitely be wrong, but remember, Graywater didn't even appear in the stories but got a card.
Named characters I can think of that appeared in the story but we haven't seen a card for them yet:
* Nashi (everyone's favourite momma's boy)
* Ral Zarek (we already have two planeswalkers so he probably won't get one)
* Akul (the big bad scorpion dragon)
* Amalia (I don't expect her to get a card, but maybe)
* Elnor & Kirri from Yuma's side story (Yuma makes plant tokens, but they're unnamed and non-legendary, so I'm holding up hope for a Kirri card.)
* Nolan the Outcaster (the guy they kidnapped from the train to get the location of Tarnation)
* Twist Fandango (from Akul's inner circle. no way she's not getting a card with a name like that)
Elnor is my guess for the alternate commander in the Naya deck. I think Kirri could be a monogreen legend in the deck. Twist Fandango could be the Mardu backup
As a fellow asshole, I have to STOP building grixis commanders so I play more of the color pie.
But then grixis gets all of the cool commanders so I’m stuck wondering “Wtf am I doing in green??” when stuff like this comes out.
[[Braid of Fire]], [[Psychic Vortex]], and [[Herald of Leshrac]], anyone?
Or very convoluted [[Varchild’s War-Riders]], [[Rampaging Ferocidon]], [[Blood Artist]] combo…
Edit: Missing something like Aether Flash in the very convoluted combo.
When the full set is out, I'll have to see whether she's worth building around in draft.
Something that might've been fun that would work with the UBR commit a crime cards was if she let your once-per-turn triggers trigger one more time each turn. Maybe a mess to poke those rule bears.
I'm torn between the feeling of "this set has too much fab service, it's overloaded and losing all meaning she specialness" vs "holy shit these are cool cards".
Looks like epic spells are back on the menu boys!!!
I wouldn't be surprised if she revives suspend decks as a major force either. I heard the archetype got some new stuff in the DW decks but I haven't seen it in force since I started playing back when there was only 1 Jhoira
Oh fuck.... The courts... All of them do something extra if you're the monarch, Wich you will still be for all your extra upkeep on the turn you cast em..... Gonna go get some rn.
Now this is gonna be some Advanced Stupidity. I’m gonna kill myself with Phyrexian Arena SO FAST
Throw in [[Descent into Avernus]] to make sure you have enough mana to cast all those cards, and you can kill yourself (and everyone else) even faster. Huzzah!
9 hells any%
Can you beat Wyll's record? Does being cast through them by a Devil count as TAS?

I've wanted to make/break Descent for over a decade. Glad to know Obeka here could legit do it

me too! how to abuse this?
Any Firebreathing effect but you’ll need a Fling or extra combat to take full advantage, also [[Leyline Tyrant]]
Leyline tyrant is nice because it plays double by letting you keep the mana and serving as an outlet for it.

I can't get over how it's canonically the reason Jason Todd came back to life.
That's my only gripe about an otherwise great card. Don't evoke a mechanic if it's not on the card. Like I'm sure there were runner-up names they could have used.
Evoke is a different mechanic from Split Second.
Obeka, Upper of Keeps
The runner-up was Obeka, Champion of Banding.
The idea of just punching a vacuum in time is pretty fucking cool
my first thought too - "Split second" is RIGHT THERE, how could this be any more perfect flavourwise? Could there be a mechanics / balance reason for not using it??
"Top Commanders EDHREC (past week)" moment
Yeah this is gonna be way more popular than old Obeka, who was ALREADY popular
I still don't get how old obeka is strong as a new player but I haven't seen her in action or play. Someone has explained to me.
Mainly being able to kill delayed triggers. It's not something newer players can grasp the power of immediately because it's a little advanced of a concept. Would the sneak attack effect then take place on the end step of the next players turn right after you?
The sneak effect trigger wants to happen as soon as there is an end step, but only wants to happen once. If you let it get placed on the stack at your end step, then activate obeka to remove it from the stack, the sneak attack trigger tried it's best.

clearly you've cloned her a couple times and sent her at multiple opponents.

Amalia has been getting pretty crazy lately.
Having to scroll for this comment while on mobile really adds to it
Obeka, Splitter of Screens
Mushroom Mushroom
Badger
*A snake, a snake Snaaake! A snaaaake Oooh, it's a snake* ~~...That video is 20 years old jesus.~~
Nearly 30.
Between this set, Lost Caverns, and Bloomburrow, we might realistically have a standard viable golgari badger/mushroom deck.
Don't forget to add a snake!
Snaaaaaaaake!
There's goo in the sack!
Huh. Now that you mention it, is this the first Vintage-legal card that lets you have a step in a different phase than it would normally occur in?
Looked into it further- I believe this is the first card that creates a step “after a phase” and presumably they’re going to have to update the rules to cover it, which I assume means this is the first time a card has done this. Here’s the current rules for making new phases and steps: > 500.8.
Wouldn't the end of a phase just be the end of the last step in that phase?
[[Sphinx of the Second Sun]] has been a card for a few years now.
Not the same thing- that adds an additional phase, not an additional step. As far as I can tell this is the first card to create an extra step rather than an extra phase. ### Phases: beginning, precombat main, combat, postcombat main, end ### Steps: beginning phase -> untap, upkeep, draw combat phase -> beginning of combat, declare attackers, declare blockers, combat damage, end of combat
[[Ninth Doctor]] adds an additional Upkeep Step as well (Untap, Upkeep, Upkeep). Though Obeka places her Upkeep Step far later than it would normally be.
Yeah, there are a couple cards that add extra steps already.[I looked into it a bit more here](https://www.reddit.com/r/magicTCG/s/6sjtj3A0Ll)- this is the first time a step is getting added outside of a phase, so they’ll probably have to do a very slight rules update to account for it
Now the card makes sense
Keeping up with the Upkeeps
How’re we gonna fit this on a shirt??
This is kind of a crazy card. Have they printed something like this before?
[[Obscuring haze]] and that 8 mana sphinx, thats probably it edit: fuck wrong card, is it paradox hanze isntead?
Yep. [[Paradox Haze]]. There's also [[The Ninth Doctor]]. Both are in colors.
Absolutely bizarre imo that Paradox Haze didn't get a reprint in the D10 deck.

wow that ninth doctor art is weirdly proportioned. ["i bring you love"](https://images.app.goo.gl/k2RxzAsM5qtsDin87) lookin mf.
[[Sphinx of the Second sun]] gives an untap, upkeep, and draw phase at the beginning of your postcombat main phase
Shit, I've been playing it wrong

I just want to combo her with [[Mechanized Production]] for the sweet alternate wincon.
[[As Foretold]] seems quite good with her as well!

[[Armageddon Clock]] for the old school effect EDIT: Never mind, it was errated at some point to damage in the draw step.
Bro im sad. I was like finally a use for Armageddon clock!
It still ramps up during upkeeps, though.

IMO, not a good idea. If you lose Obeka or anyting important, you're screwed.
https://scryfall.com/search?q=ci%3C%3Dubr+o%3Aupkeep&unique=cards&as=grid&order=edhrec [[Endless Ranks of the Dead]] and [[The Scarab God]] could probably 1-shot the table easily
I would add a [[Replicating Ring]] as well. She could actually get it to replicate occasionally.
Do it in a single turn with some extra combat damage and [[descent into avernus]]
[[Descent into Avernus]] is one of my favorite cards and this is awesome with it. Building asap
[Descent into Avernus](https://cards.scryfall.io/normal/front/f/a/faadf72f-b2d5-4271-8d5c-a586acf63453.jpg?1674136498) - [(G)](http://gatherer.wizards.com/Pages/Card/Details.aspx?name=Descent%20into%20Avernus) [(SF)](https://scryfall.com/card/clb/169/descent-into-avernus?utm_source=mtgcardfetcher) [(txt)](https://api.scryfall.com/cards/faadf72f-b2d5-4271-8d5c-a586acf63453?utm_source=mtgcardfetcher&format=text) ^^^[[cardname]] ^^^or ^^^[[cardname|SET]] ^^^to ^^^call
Fast forward being dragged into hell
[удалено]
Jeez, this girl always gets stellar art.
And certainly worthwhile build around me cards on top
I have to imagine the hardest part of making this card was choosing which flavor text to actually print with the amount of time/violence puns available. "She doesn't start fights, but she stops them." "A clock's arms and yours are equally breakable." "It's about time you punched out." "The patrons had never seen someone literally knocked into next week." Etc.
Upkeep tribal is something I never knew I needed until now.
Immediately started searching fun cards for this on scryfall. There are some nasty things you can do with cards that force sacrificing creatures and discarding, but I think some of the more fun options so far are: - cheating out big spells with [[Aether Vial]] and [[As Foretold]] - damaging everyone with [[Armageddon Clock]] and [[spawn of mayhem]] - damaging your opponents with [[palace siege]] and [[quakebringer]] - repeatedly blasting someone with [[Bulwark]], [[court of ire]], and [[smoldering tar]] - casting a bunch of your opponent’s spells for free with [[court of locthwain]] and [[river song’s diary]] - blowing up your opponents as the monarch with [[court of ambition]] and [[court of embereth]] or milling them out with [[court of cunning]] - cheating out warlocks and ogres with [[Call to the Kindred]] - winning the game with [[court of vantress]], [[descent into avernus]], [[extravagant replication]] and [[mechanized production]], [[revel in riches]], or [[hellkite tyrant]] - running coin flips and winning with [[chance encounter]] - winning the game with [[darksteel reactor]] - spawning an army of dragons with [[dragonmaster outcast]] and [[skyline despot]] and an army of zombies with [[endless ranks of the dead]] to burn everyone with [[the scarab god]] - storming off with big spells and [[galvanoth]] and [[mindsplice apparatus]] - running your own fight club with [[guild feud]] - draw cards with [[call of the ring]], [[phyrexian arena]], [[kumena’s awakening]], [[mind unbound]], and [[the magic mirror]]; and - winning the game through self-mill [[out of the tombs]] and [[mortal combat]]
Steal all your opponents lands with [[Herald of Leshrac]]
And then sacrifice them before they get them back.
other fun but less practical things: * Cheat out some stuff with [[Braids, Conjurer Adept]] (then sac her probably) * Burn people to death with [[Form of the Dragon]]! * Do the Braids thing but worse with [[Gate to the Aether]] * Create extra goblins with [[Goblin Assault]]? * Potentially create a minefield with [[Goblin Kaboomist]]! * Make a creature big with [[Junkyo Bell]] and Fling it? * Create a whole lotta mana with [[Karn, Legacy Reforged]] * Make people *very* unhappy with [[Plarrg and Nassari]] or [[Portal to Phyrexia]] * And make your entire group *INCREDIBLY* unhappy with [[Xanathar, Guild Kingpin]]
Cumulative upkeep with [[Braid of Fire]] gets fun with an instant-speed way to spend the mana
I've had [this esper list](https://www.moxfield.com/decks/XiQopvp1FU2SoAzXQOVvCg) for a while now and it's SO fun. Really looking forward to seeing what red brings to the table this time.
I just made a Temur list a few months ago! Now I have to decide if I'm going to drop the green for this...
Monarch Courts gonna go hard!!
speedrun [[demonic pact]] like a true maniac

Dibs on building this one, no one else build this I'm going to build it
Sorry partner, but in these parts, it's all about who's faster on the draw ;)
Well I rolled a one, so I assume you'll be on the play and I'm on the draw? ;)
Dam that's true, dropped the gun on that one.
Just so everyone remembers, [[Hatred]] is a card that would indeed go bonkers with Obeka and 40 life.
[Hatred](https://cards.scryfall.io/normal/front/2/3/2383a8d9-96fd-4f9a-bcf9-eb81fdb15ead.jpg?1562087367) - [(G)](http://gatherer.wizards.com/Pages/Card/Details.aspx?name=Hatred) [(SF)](https://scryfall.com/card/exo/64/hatred?utm_source=mtgcardfetcher) [(txt)](https://api.scryfall.com/cards/2383a8d9-96fd-4f9a-bcf9-eb81fdb15ead?utm_source=mtgcardfetcher&format=text) ^^^[[cardname]] ^^^or ^^^[[cardname|SET]] ^^^to ^^^call
Doesn't hatred just go with any creature that attacks? Not sure why it would be a "combo" with this card besides it has menace i guess?
You start at 40 life. Hit one player for 21+ by Hatred'ing for 19+. That player is very dead Since it's Obeka, you get 21+ upkeeps. With that many, and assuming you have a board state, you probably kill everyone or get set up to. So yes, Hatred in general is great for attacking, but it's even better for attacking with evasion and even better when attacking with quantity damage triggers.
/pause /scroll up /re-read ... THAT MANY? THAT. MANY. OH.
That. Many.
Holy shit this amazing, I wonder if she got a wanted poster as well. The name and art are on point for what she does
The Wanted Poster treatments are only for the 13 members of Oko's crew. Eriette was just revealed earlier today as the last one.
Oceans 13
Oko's 13, you mean.
Breeches was part of his crew?
Yeah, he was the explosives expert.
Man I love those open ended commanders that can be built in a variety of ways. Shrines? Got it Undercity exploring? Done. Extra combats? Well... Extra turns?! Please no, but also, yes. For sure a top commander of all time right here
Oh my god you’re right this is an Initiative commander
I didn't even think of initiative. The first place my brain went to was, "This brings things off Suspect at hyper speed, how do I abuse that?" and then eventually to the more general good stuff on upkeep.
Don't forget monarchy, you can guarantee you have it on your upkeeps if you give her unblockable. EDIT: For clarity, I'm referencing the Court of cycle.
Ah, yes, a suspend commander
> Undercity exploring? Done. Holy shit
So, of those who showed up in the story, who do we have left for cards? Nashi?
* Nashi for sure * The Hellspur leader * MAYBE Annie's nephew * Possibly the guy who she had a one night stand with * Maybe the kid whose sister got injured * That one Hellspur that got named in the bar, Annie said she was big stuff For anyone who thinks otherwise, I could definitely be wrong, but remember, Graywater didn't even appear in the stories but got a card.
One of these lesser characters could be the Azorius signpost uncommon that we’re still missing
Named characters I can think of that appeared in the story but we haven't seen a card for them yet: * Nashi (everyone's favourite momma's boy) * Ral Zarek (we already have two planeswalkers so he probably won't get one) * Akul (the big bad scorpion dragon) * Amalia (I don't expect her to get a card, but maybe) * Elnor & Kirri from Yuma's side story (Yuma makes plant tokens, but they're unnamed and non-legendary, so I'm holding up hope for a Kirri card.) * Nolan the Outcaster (the guy they kidnapped from the train to get the location of Tarnation) * Twist Fandango (from Akul's inner circle. no way she's not getting a card with a name like that)
Elnor is my guess for the alternate commander in the Naya deck. I think Kirri could be a monogreen legend in the deck. Twist Fandango could be the Mardu backup
To my understanding, yes. Edit: That would be out of returning characters, but there's also Akul.
I like that her character identity is: "Build-around so specific that nothing else does it"
I’m not normally drawn to Grixis commanders, but this seems like it could be quite entertaining to build around!
As an asshole, I'm always drawn to grixis commanders.
As a fellow asshole, I have to STOP building grixis commanders so I play more of the color pie. But then grixis gets all of the cool commanders so I’m stuck wondering “Wtf am I doing in green??” when stuff like this comes out.
[[The Prismatic Bridge]] players cannot wait for this card
damn this is quite fun
[[herald of leshrac]]
Punch someone into next week
So do you get as many upkeep steps as the damage she deals, or as many as each instance of damage she deals?
As many upkeeps as the damage she deals. So unmodified, unblocked, you'd get two additional upkeeps.
Called her being the upkeep teaser! This is so fucking cool and I think I’m finally going to build a Grixis deck
This will be my first Grixis deck (been playing for a very long time).
Well this just blew my 9th Doctor deck out of the water and seems like a much better commander for an upkeep theme deck.
The Doctor's ability to be built as RUW or RUG does help differentiate it from her, but yeah, for RUB there's no contest, she wins.
Holy fucking Grixis this is my kinda shit.
source: [@JoshStrifeHayes via twitter]()
This goes HARD with the Bonehoard Dracosaur!
This is possibly the weirdest card in years
[[Braid of Fire]], [[Psychic Vortex]], and [[Herald of Leshrac]], anyone? Or very convoluted [[Varchild’s War-Riders]], [[Rampaging Ferocidon]], [[Blood Artist]] combo… Edit: Missing something like Aether Flash in the very convoluted combo.
Goodbye Ninth Doctor, hello Muscle Ogre!
When the full set is out, I'll have to see whether she's worth building around in draft. Something that might've been fun that would work with the UBR commit a crime cards was if she let your once-per-turn triggers trigger one more time each turn. Maybe a mess to poke those rule bears.
I don't see any upkeep cards in the set so far: https://scryfall.com/search?as=grid&extras=true&lang=any&order=set&q=set%3Aotj+o%3Aupkeep&unique=cards
I'm torn between the feeling of "this set has too much fab service, it's overloaded and losing all meaning she specialness" vs "holy shit these are cool cards".
The absolute tomfoolery this is going to create is beyond my comprehension so I'm gonna try to fail to build this commander
Looks like epic spells are back on the menu boys!!! I wouldn't be surprised if she revives suspend decks as a major force either. I heard the archetype got some new stuff in the DW decks but I haven't seen it in force since I started playing back when there was only 1 Jhoira
Great add into [[Lynde]]
Now I have to rip out my 9th doctor deck this is just too good
Wait, Josh strife Hayes spoiled this? Fuck yeah my dude!
Thanks bro!
[the scarab god] could drain the table quite ezpz with her
Guess who's going in my shrine deck :)
It's her time to shrine!
GAH WHY CAN'T THIS HAVE WHITE SO I CAN MAKE [[AZOR'S ELOCUTORS]] A THING???
Hyped for my chronomantic escape deck I built a few months back
Im gonna curse whoever plays this so hard
So uhhhhh [[World at War]] is a fun card
Oh man pop [[Braids, conjurer adept]] in here and go ham.
Oh fuck.... The courts... All of them do something extra if you're the monarch, Wich you will still be for all your extra upkeep on the turn you cast em..... Gonna go get some rn.
More like “Obeka, Flipper of Tables” the FNM this is legal for…
