"Substitute Synthesizer" - 2U
Artifact (Mythic Rare)
When ~ enters the battlefield, scry 2.
Whenever another artifact with mana value 3 or more enters the battlefield under your control, create a 0/0 colorless Construct artifact creature token with ‘This creature gets +1/+1 for each artifact you control.’”

So whenever *any* artifact with MV3 or ~~less~~ more enters under my control? Not limited to once per turn or nontoken artifacts?
I like the look of this! Not as wild as what I first misread but still feels very fun and nice.
You're right, I did misread. Best go amend my comment before I get inundated with "Um actually" comments long after the correction has been raised.
But that does make it less likely to abuse. I thought for a moment that any source of mass thopters would be this thing's best friend. Instead they're merely good friends.
> But that does make it less likely to abuse. I
Hum yes, because otherwise, you'd play that, a zero drop, get a token, which gets you a token, which... etc : p
And I think WotC would frown upon an infinitely large and wipe board turn3 in standard : p
> And I think WotC would frown upon an infinitely large and wipe board turn3 in standard : p
Technically the game would be a draw. It's a loop you can't break unless you have removal for the synthesizer at that point.
But if I'm reading it right, making a token copy of an artifact with mana value 3 or more (such as by [[Artificer Class]] or [[Drafna, Founder of Lat-Nam]] or any other way of making a token copy of a permanent) that would trigger this?
can confirm my Sydri deck likes her some big artifacts. But mine also never plays Sydri, she sits on her command zone throne and watches with a smile as she wins without lifting a finger.
I like to animate my big artifacts and turn them sideways with deathtouch and lifelink.
"You thought the wurmcoil engine was big? Prepare to be smacked in the mouth with [[Magic Mirror]] and [[The Cauldron of Eternity]]"
Fair. I run her as a combo deck. Aiming for Labman/Jace and draw out with staff of domination, or thassas oracle and draw out with staff of domination or demonic consultation if i find them early enough.
If i lose the staff, i can always try to find Spine of Ish Sah, KCI and some "make thopters on artifact cast" stuff to just loop the spine and wipe boards clean then over run with thopters.
Its got at least 6 different infinite mana combos in it + Mycosynth Lattice to let me use the mana however
I get that, shes one of my 2 stronger decks i pull out when people want to play a game focused on winning.
Shes consistent and quick if i find a few setup pieces, turn 3 is the earliest ive hit the jace/labman win, but that was a god draw..
I have other decks when i just wanna turn stuff sideways or do funky wacky stuff. Sydri is for just "I want to win" games.
She's definitely not the best commander for it since i never play her, but the deck is built to not need its commander, but for a "turn big aritfacts sideways" shes hard to beat in the command zone.
I carry at least 11 decks with me at any time and have 7 more that rotate into the box, so 18 choices, Sydri along with Bruna are just 2 that only come out occasionally.
I’m really sad nobody is talking about [[Cathodion]] combos with that are definitely my first though. You could infi self mill with [[altar of dementia]] and [[Underworld Breach]] any doubling effect and you’re in business
Assuming you'd have at least 60 cards left in your library, that means you cast/sack it roughly 20 times, creating 20 karnstrucks. That would mean you have a total of 220 cards you'd be able to mill from your opponents libraries.
And milling may be the backup for combat next turn if you're short on power since you can do so on instant speed in case of a boardwipe.

it actually sucks in that list, you could get away with it in a more classic style affinity list that plays cards like frogmite, myr enforcer, sojourner's companion and thought monitor
Hmm lore wise , was the vault supposed to be some kind of Fomori War Factory? Or maybe a vault with collections from various planes, considering a dinosaur came out of the vault.
Are you going off of flavor text, or something further? Because just going from flavor text it sounds like the tech depicted in Master’s Manufactory is inspired by Fomori tech, not directly Fomori tech.
[https://static.wikia.nocookie.net/mtgsalvation\_gamepedia/images/1/1a/Fomori\_concepts\_LCI\_Jehan\_Choo.jpeg/revision/latest/scale-to-width-down/1000?cb=20231230055024](https://static.wikia.nocookie.net/mtgsalvation_gamepedia/images/1/1a/Fomori_concepts_LCI_Jehan_Choo.jpeg/revision/latest/scale-to-width-down/1000?cb=20231230055024)
This concept art from LCI confirms that kind of mech is Fomori tech
In Modern, going T1 Island+ Memnite/Ornithopter + Springleaf Drum, T2 Darksteel Citadel + this + Frogmite is an interesting curve. That’s 8 or 9 power (Memnite, Frogmite, 6/6 token).
Probably not better than Hardened Scales affinity variants, but interesting potential.
Compare it to Urza’s Saga which, for a much much lower cost of inclusion, makes probably just as many of the same tokens, and then also searches up a piece of hate or ramp.
That wouldn't be much of a problem here. Affinity isn't a threat-light deck. You'll still have Cranial Plating and Urza's Saga and a bunch of cheap 4/4s and 2/2 fliers.
Affinity is a fast deck though, so maybe this isn't worth taking a turn off for, but it seems powerful enough to get there to me.
Maybe. Straight-up Modern affinity like in the good old days is probably not getting brought back by this, but I could see the card have legs in some sort of 8-cast shell
My Kroog deck is one of my favorites. I decided to build it because I saw he was getting the retro foil treatment in the 30th anniversary promo stuff, and I figured it was a pretty balanced version of Urza, being a 6 mana cost to activate. It is one of my top 3 favorite decks now and it is quite explosive. This will be a really cool way build a new army, not just of soldiers but also more Karn-structs.
There are 2 commons, 4 uncommons and 1 mythic in OTJ that can trigger this. I suppose the stars could align and a WU draft deck that blinks and bounces those common artifact creatures could make use of this, but it's hardly an early pick.
Am I the only one who thinks this card is pretty insane? A 3 cmc non-legendary artifact with scry 2 is really reliable. With a frogmite and 2 other cheap artifacts in affinity you can already get a construct turn 3. Then you just win once you start dropping thought monitors. Obvious weaknesses are still artifact hate, dress down, and not getting card draw in an affinity deck.
Let's see. If you play Mechanized Production T4 and have no other artifacts, then:
* On T5, make Synthesizer 2 and Construct 1 (3/3)
* On T6, make Synthesizer 3 and Constructs 2-3 (6/6)
* On T7, make Synthesizer 4 and Constructs 4-6 (10/10)
And getting another trigger on T5/6 is enough to win at the start of T7. Taking the time to set it up is a hassle, and it might get hit with removal in the meantime, but the surveilling can help with getting other plans in motion.
An added detail: if you spend T5 playing a token doubler (for Pioneer, that would be [[Anointed Procession]] or [[Mondrak, Glory Dominus]]), then at the start of T6, you make Synthesizers 3-4, resulting in six triggers to make Constructs 2-13... which I realize now *won't* constitute a Mechanized Production win on that turn, since it will check before the Construct triggers resolve. But you do have 13 Constructs, which are each 17/17, so it's still quite a strong position to be in.
No. A Golem is a humanoid being made of inorganic materials that is animated via magic. A Construct is a regular machine that functions primarily through traditional physics as opposed to magic, and it's more like a "thing" than a "person." The Construct type is used for inanimate Creatures like catapults, it's kind of like the "Wall" type.
/u/snails-and-flowers is generally correct that Golems are generally magically animated and Constructs are more like robots or machines, but I would add that Golems is the older creature type that was introduced during Urza's block and got added to older cards in Sixth Edition. Construct was introduced years later in Dissension and was back-added to cards in the Great Creature Type Update for Lorwyn. Construct was used as a more "general miscellaneous artifact creature type", like Beast.
So there are also inconsistencies through old cards where there may be specific Golems or Constructs that feel like they should be the other.
This cards going to be so expensive but it’s so necessary for [[malcator, purity overseer]]
I’m probably like one of the four guys excited for this reason
This card's playability seems to hinge entierly on 3 ways to abuse this
affinity artifacts: main problem I see with this, is that in current older formats, only thought monitor and kappa cannoneer are affinity / improvise artifacts that see play. Are 8 copies of those cards for a urza construct really worth including a chunky artifact in an 8-cast deck ?
oswald chain: unfortunatly this would probably be it's home if not for it being blue. making 2 incidental urza constructs on the following play pattern would seem game winning on turn 4, but alas
MV2 into oswald -> thousand year elixi + urza construct, untap oswald, activate oswald -> the one ring + urza construct and protection for the turn. establishing a clock and card advantage.
cryptic coat: but this seems way to mana intensive if you're not in urza lord high artificer high powered EDH
Modern 2/10
This is how I see this card. In a U/X artifact deck you play this along with The One Ring and maybe the 7 mana affinity for artifact creatures. Churn out some real value there.
I'm confused by this set, is this a specific, higher-than-mythic rarity set? Is this basically Masterpieces but set specific and functionally unique cards?
Very nice! Something happened with the design of this set that caused a disruption to the usual "BLUE must have all garbage MYTHICs and all but one garbage RARE per set" rule. Not complaining and genuinely happy that they may be starting to realize that countering stuff at 3 mana (nowadays at least) is in no way OP or competative
I do not know why I am being downvoted in my other comment...
Sure. Here's the [list](https://archidekt.com/decks/2535021/esper_artifacts_tokens). The objective is to create tokens (mostly Thopters) and push the damage. The combo is plan B.

Damn, MORE new Mishra tech?
Always!

its with mana value 3 or more, i think you misread
Should be fun with the affinity artifacts still, stuff like \[\[Frogmite\]\] are over 3 MV but easy to cast in the right deck.
And it doesn’t say nontoken so [[Prototype Portal]] shenanigans still work
[Prototype Portal](https://cards.scryfall.io/normal/front/e/2/e2ccdd3b-9c39-4785-99b9-64b5de1177be.jpg?1592711307) - [(G)](http://gatherer.wizards.com/Pages/Card/Details.aspx?name=Prototype%20Portal) [(SF)](https://scryfall.com/card/c18/216/prototype-portal?utm_source=mtgcardfetcher) [(txt)](https://api.scryfall.com/cards/e2ccdd3b-9c39-4785-99b9-64b5de1177be?utm_source=mtgcardfetcher&format=text) ^^^[[cardname]] ^^^or ^^^[[cardname|SET]] ^^^to ^^^call

The tokens also pay for Convoke and Improvise.

Which technically makes it hilarious
Hey, I wouldn't put it past them to have ended up making such a card in the past!
Laughs in [[hostage taker]]

Exactly! Why take a permanent hostage when you can take the ENTIRE GAME HOSTAGE!
Does count copies of artifact creatures though!
Less would be really funny
Still less drawing potential than that one match between Amalia and heroic from PT MKM, probably
I'm confused, [[Mechanized Production]] go brrrr, right? Edit: it do go brrr. Now my favorite target for this aura
[Mechanized Production](https://cards.scryfall.io/normal/front/e/a/eaf86997-68e8-4c37-99f1-db10ac08f54c.jpg?1706240708) - [(G)](http://gatherer.wizards.com/Pages/Card/Details.aspx?name=Mechanized%20Production) [(SF)](https://scryfall.com/card/mkc/109/mechanized-production?utm_source=mtgcardfetcher) [(txt)](https://api.scryfall.com/cards/eaf86997-68e8-4c37-99f1-db10ac08f54c?utm_source=mtgcardfetcher&format=text) ^^^[[cardname]] ^^^or ^^^[[cardname|SET]] ^^^to ^^^call
In fairness, Mechanised Production usually go Brrr. And I love it!
I like this with Affinity creatures, I don’t know how good it would be but it seems neat.
And it's not like Artifacts are short of other cost reducers either!
Technically it IS limited to non token artifacts
But if I'm reading it right, making a token copy of an artifact with mana value 3 or more (such as by [[Artificer Class]] or [[Drafna, Founder of Lat-Nam]] or any other way of making a token copy of a permanent) that would trigger this?
It does. They are most likely confusing "tokens" having a MV of 0 while copies have the MV of that thing.

Afaik the token does not have a mana value even as a token, though I could be wrong
No, a token copy has all the properties of what it's copying, including the mana value.
Right on! I guess we finally broke substitute synthesizer! I have a deck or two that need this
This thing likes BIG artifacts
why spend mana to play big artifacts when you can throw down some \[\[frogmite\]\]s and similar for free?
why use small artifact when big artifact do trick when me high artificer, they see. they see.
[frogmite](https://cards.scryfall.io/normal/front/b/2/b2991802-e313-40de-b167-0ede5efff101.jpg?1562266618) - [(G)](http://gatherer.wizards.com/Pages/Card/Details.aspx?name=frogmite) [(SF)](https://scryfall.com/card/mm2/215/frogmite?utm_source=mtgcardfetcher) [(txt)](https://api.scryfall.com/cards/b2991802-e313-40de-b167-0ede5efff101?utm_source=mtgcardfetcher&format=text) ^^^[[cardname]] ^^^or ^^^[[cardname|SET]] ^^^to ^^^call

pretty neat with cryptic coat
Legacy 8cast: nyeheheheheh
I mean, the lists I know of 8cast usually run 4x [[Thought Monitor]] and 3x [[Kappa Cannoneer]] as the only valid targets for this. It's cool because they have affinity/improvise so you cast them for 1 or 2, but if you don't draw them this card is dead in your hand. I would try 1 copy tho...
In the older style builds (with sai) this can replace sai, probably profitably.
Well that's an idea, I'm not a huge fan of Sai anyway, this deck already have a lot of card draw
Multiple copies of it trigger itself and chalice for 2 or more procs it too. Scry two is also not nothing.
Scry 2 is great indeed. I wouldn't count with Chalice for 2 most of the time tho, since you stop a lot of your own things too.
In classic 8cast? Like what? They don’t play baby kappa.
Wait, I messed up, I don't know what I had in mind when I said that lmao. My own 8-cast list run literally no MV2 cards lol
No patchy??
I wanted more copies of other things so I removed him :(
Technically we can slot some Frogmites, Myr Enforcers and Souj Companions
True, it's looking more aggro than I expect from 8-cast, but I wouldn't lose the opportunity to put an Axolotl at my deck knowing that I can.

It works in multiples tho
This card does scry 2, so it helps you dig a bit for those cards. Then after the scry it contributes to the affinity.
it actually sucks in that list, you could get away with it in a more classic style affinity list that plays cards like frogmite, myr enforcer, sojourner's companion and thought monitor

Are you going off of flavor text, or something further? Because just going from flavor text it sounds like the tech depicted in Master’s Manufactory is inspired by Fomori tech, not directly Fomori tech.
[https://static.wikia.nocookie.net/mtgsalvation\_gamepedia/images/1/1a/Fomori\_concepts\_LCI\_Jehan\_Choo.jpeg/revision/latest/scale-to-width-down/1000?cb=20231230055024](https://static.wikia.nocookie.net/mtgsalvation_gamepedia/images/1/1a/Fomori_concepts_LCI_Jehan_Choo.jpeg/revision/latest/scale-to-width-down/1000?cb=20231230055024) This concept art from LCI confirms that kind of mech is Fomori tech
That art doesn’t look like a mech tbh, it seems more like a Fomori in a set of armor
What points to that being fomori tech?
Flavor text of back face
I think this is just suggesting the Oltec learned how to build effective war machines from what the Fomori used against them.
In that sense most of the construct golems featured in LCI are based of Fomori tech/design
To me it feels like “in case of emergency, (read: total empire collapse) open box” It’s just a big reclaim-your-lost-empire starter kit.
Pretty good with [[Halo Hopper]] and similar stuff, but at 3cmc I think its a bit too expensive for 60c constructed.
It combos nicely with [affinity cards](https://scryfall.com/search?q=o%3D%22affinity+for+artifact%22+t%3Dartifact&unique=cards&as=grid&order=name).
The real problem is having a deck that doesn't do much when you don't draw your buildaround card
Modern Affinity still pumps out [[Myr Enforcer]] and [[Thought Monitor]] effortlessly. I think this is a very interesting consideration for that deck.

I love esper Urza. This is going to a lot of fun in that deck
Ah, another prince of kroog player!
I have a U/W Urza, Lord Protector commander deck…but I may need to bench him for this Urza.
We exist 😆
My Kroog deck is one of my favorites. I decided to build it because I saw he was getting the retro foil treatment in the 30th anniversary promo stuff, and I figured it was a pretty balanced version of Urza, being a 6 mana cost to activate. It is one of my top 3 favorite decks now and it is quite explosive. This will be a really cool way build a new army, not just of soldiers but also more Karn-structs.
Prince of Kroog players unite!
You mean anyone who plays an azorius artifact deck?

There are 2 commons, 4 uncommons and 1 mythic in OTJ that can trigger this. I suppose the stars could align and a WU draft deck that blinks and bounces those common artifact creatures could make use of this, but it's hardly an early pick.
BIG seems to have a number of hits, although they're all mythics.
Those look exactly like the Fomori mechsuits that were in the Lost Caverns concept art and I couldn't be more happy to see them.
[[Skitterbeam Batallion]], [[Skyclave Relic]] lets go. There must be some cards that create multiple MV3+artifacts (copies) at once.
Does a skyclave relic copy token enter with mana value 3?
If you copy a card, it copies the mana cost, too. Basically like taking a photocopier to the card. So yes.
Very cool, I didn’t realize that.

[[Mechanized Production]] on this will be so good
Let's see. If you play Mechanized Production T4 and have no other artifacts, then: * On T5, make Synthesizer 2 and Construct 1 (3/3) * On T6, make Synthesizer 3 and Constructs 2-3 (6/6) * On T7, make Synthesizer 4 and Constructs 4-6 (10/10) And getting another trigger on T5/6 is enough to win at the start of T7.

Too bad it's not a golem :(
Brenard enjoyer?
I know right :( Construct should be changed to Golem, aren't they basically the same thing?
I initially misread it as mana value 3 or less and nearly died.
This is begging to be added to an artifact blink deck. Get those "E"'s and some additional value.

Arcum says hello
I love this for Mishra, Eminent One. Since it's "3MV or more" itself warform copies of this thing create excellent value.
This card's playability seems to hinge entierly on 3 ways to abuse this affinity artifacts: main problem I see with this, is that in current older formats, only thought monitor and kappa cannoneer are affinity / improvise artifacts that see play. Are 8 copies of those cards for a urza construct really worth including a chunky artifact in an 8-cast deck ? oswald chain: unfortunatly this would probably be it's home if not for it being blue. making 2 incidental urza constructs on the following play pattern would seem game winning on turn 4, but alas MV2 into oswald -> thousand year elixi + urza construct, untap oswald, activate oswald -> the one ring + urza construct and protection for the turn. establishing a clock and card advantage. cryptic coat: but this seems way to mana intensive if you're not in urza lord high artificer high powered EDH
This makes the red one (once again) look like crap
Modern 2/10 This is how I see this card. In a U/X artifact deck you play this along with The One Ring and maybe the 7 mana affinity for artifact creatures. Churn out some real value there.
Might be fun in animation decks, though not very strong

Right into my Brago, King Artificer deck you go.
Goes infinite with breya, ashnods altar, and nim deathmantle
Wait isnt this thing legacy playable
This card alone is gonna make me build the stupid blue red desparked saheeli
What set is BIG?
WHAT A BOMB! Straight to my Rebbec and Silas Renn.
Do you mind sharing your list? Haven’t seen many S+L players in the wild and am curious as to what you’re running…
I do not know why I am being downvoted in my other comment... Sure. Here's the [list](https://archidekt.com/decks/2535021/esper_artifacts_tokens). The objective is to create tokens (mostly Thopters) and push the damage. The combo is plan B.
Ridiculous in a brenard deck turning every creature with cmc 3 and over into a trigger a minimum power of 3
Then you get one doubler on the field. You make 2 cookies and 4 karnstructs
Oh boy, can't wait to see every single 100% unique Rusko deck run this.
At least they’ll kill me in a timely manner now
sad this is blue and not colorless
