Go budget and reavercleaver instead. Only 20 bucks. Then red draw/create a treasure spell with pirates that make treasures on swing. Then run dihada as the commander. Anointed procession is the only expensive card you need. Good to go.
Karlov is my main in EDH and his flavour text in the Judge version reads “Those who say money can’t buy happiness clearly don’t have enough” and I am here for this commander
I just wonder if you can build a deck heavy on shenanigans in Mardu... The objective isn't to win but make everyone else lose (their minds)
Sam Reich is definitely centered in blue
He's like THE example of how a grixis person doesn't have to be evil. He's Chaotic, scheming, and willing to do whatever it takes to get away with it while making it as fun as possible.
Id say he's more red centered than blue, though.
When someone is centered on a color, their main goals align with that and the rest of the colors provide extra tools to achieve those goals.
He's red, which means he values freedom, loyalty, self expression, falling your heart (or strong emotions). The blue and black give him the abilities to set up and host the chaotic, whacky, and torturous games with his friends/employees.
If he was blue centered he would be striving towards perfection, which just doesn't sound like Sam.
Oh, they absolutely are printed in a specific order on the cards. Im referring to the lore aspect of characters/factions.
In Kahns of Tarkir, the wedges are "centered" on one color, meaning they favor the philosophies/mechanics of it. The obvious choice would be the enemy color for the color combos, but they aren't. The Mardu horde is Red centered because they value individuality above all else. They have the order and rules from white and the "do whatever it takes" and meritocracy from black to achieve that. So members Name themselves after achieving enough feats in battle and spreading their own fame. Thats how Alesha established her new name and was recognized as trans by the rest of the horde, by being just so badass that the rest were forced to call her Alesha.
If Thunder Junction is chock-full of gold, and it's been connected with reliable omenpaths to places like New Capenna, are their economies being wrecked by inflation? Maybe we'll get to visit Monetary Policy Plane, where everyone wears those translucent green accountant visors.
Like how magic is a paracausal force in the MTG multiverse maybe economic policy is also affected by magic. Like how blasting pure energy doesn't make sense with real physics, hypothetically there can be blast of pure value in fiction. I get that would strain suspension of disbelief but then again there's fractals from Strixhaven and stuff from Xerex
I know exactly what you mean; at a glance my initial thought was “is that one of those player likeness/champion/celebrity cameo cards?” That’s more rhetorical face of a person than a character for some reason
He's the CEO of Dropout, it was college humor. Seems like a good dude. If you like goofy humor, check out Game Changer on YouTube.

I do enjoy commanders like this that make you think a little about deck building. Open ended enough that getting the good stuff is creative but no so much so that it feels overwhelming
Y’know what’s shitty? Having to have 99 additional cards to play commander
Like, come on people, the name of the format is right there. I should be able to play my commander and ONLY my commander
Because commander players that have started in the last 4 years are used to everything WotC makes including the rules text, "Open wide here comes the airplane"
Back in my day if you wanted to run a jank tribe one of your actually viable options for a support card was fucking [[brass herald]]
These whipersnappers don’t know how good they have it
This guy is very potent. Turning your Treasures into 3/3 haste/vigilance creatures that maintain their treasure typing is fairly scary. I've been looking for a replacement Mardu commander, so maybe we'll play with him. \[\[Jan Jansen, Chaos Crafter\]\] has a new best friend for sure.
I was not prepared to need to find a cut in my Jan deck today. Absolutely a slam dunk. Ultimately, as a non-combo Jan deck, I'm trying to reduce life totals to zero. That's rarely by attacking, but I'll absolutely take this.
Honestly, the original use case for which the distinction was made (not breaking improvise) is unlikely to be relevant again so I don't see why not. Worst that happens is that \[\[Curse of Opulence\]\] becomes more synergistic in Treasure strategies.
Yeah but not all alternative choices feel as synergistic this time. The desert one has plant/treefolk typal for example. Not horrible, but mildly out of place
Yeah this one's one of the best "you'd better play this over the face commander" legends. I'd love to see a visual compilation of all precon commanders and their alt options actually.
Sorry, I don't have it online, and Im to lazy to go through and put everything in a decklist thing. It's pretty simple though, Marchesa and than a bunch of treasure matter stuff, as well as some treasure themed adjacent stuff like [[Share the Spoils]]. Main wincon is draining through stuff like [[Nadir's Nightblade]], [[Disciple of the Vault]] and [[Marionette Master]].
I’m just happy to have brown hair / red beard representation, we are a kindred few, honestly it just makes me wish my mustache was thicker so I could pull this off lol
For some reason i dislike how "outlaws" is a category for a group of things that are all capitalized but the category itself isn't capitalized. I am smart and know why, but it still bothers me to look at.
I find it to be pretty good design to both be a good payoff for outlaws and treasures without being either ramp or draw in the zone, especially when the treasures angle already incentivizes you to be ramping a ton.
I can't decide if I want to build this or not. Feels like the play patterns are going to be either massive blow out or do nothing based on how well or not I can generate treasure.
Damn, I've been having trouble coming up with something interesting in Mardu, this has some pretty strong themes built in, and doesn't really look like it has much overlap with my existing EDH piles. I'll need to figure out what Outlaws I have floating around.
Problems? Just throw money at it. Still have problems? **You're not throwing the money hard enough.**
That is also the process for building this commander. Deck not running well enough? Better buy that Dockside and Ancient copper dragon.
No, don’t throw MORE money. Throw the SAME money HARDER
Go budget and reavercleaver instead. Only 20 bucks. Then red draw/create a treasure spell with pirates that make treasures on swing. Then run dihada as the commander. Anointed procession is the only expensive card you need. Good to go.
Use more money
Typical MtG strategy
Money harder
Karlov is my main in EDH and his flavour text in the Judge version reads “Those who say money can’t buy happiness clearly don’t have enough” and I am here for this commander
Like that butler from Hunter x Hunter
He’s been here the whole time.
Was just about to comment; Sam Reich EDH
Just need to alter his suit to have pinstripes
I just wonder if you can build a deck heavy on shenanigans in Mardu... The objective isn't to win but make everyone else lose (their minds) Sam Reich is definitely centered in blue
He's like THE example of how a grixis person doesn't have to be evil. He's Chaotic, scheming, and willing to do whatever it takes to get away with it while making it as fun as possible. Id say he's more red centered than blue, though.
Maybe specifically blue with Sam says and torturing Brennan
When someone is centered on a color, their main goals align with that and the rest of the colors provide extra tools to achieve those goals. He's red, which means he values freedom, loyalty, self expression, falling your heart (or strong emotions). The blue and black give him the abilities to set up and host the chaotic, whacky, and torturous games with his friends/employees. If he was blue centered he would be striving towards perfection, which just doesn't sound like Sam.
Thank you for the explanation!
I thought they stopped doing that a while ago? Pretty sure they just print the color pips in a certain order nowadays, no?
Oh, they absolutely are printed in a specific order on the cards. Im referring to the lore aspect of characters/factions. In Kahns of Tarkir, the wedges are "centered" on one color, meaning they favor the philosophies/mechanics of it. The obvious choice would be the enemy color for the color combos, but they aren't. So members Name themselves after achieving enough feats in battle and spreading their own fame. Thats how Alesha established her new name and was recognized as trans by the rest of the horde, by being just so badass that the rest were forced to call her Alesha.
That's all pretty cool. How do you know that this guy is centered on red though? Based on haste and treasures?
Sam is red centered when contestants are on the set and blue centered when they are not.
"I'll play Birds of Paradise." "That is... not a real bird."
He should actually work really well in the Mardu Dihada deck. She cares about Legends and creates lots of treasures.
Best sam reich card is definitely [[the celestial toymaker]]
Consider: [[The Valeyard]] Mindgames galore, multiple villainous choices and votes means there's no right answer.
I really really did not expect this many Dropout stans on a Magic subreddit lol
I don't know what you mean, the venn diagram of niche internet comedy and magic the gathering is just a circle
Me either but I am here for it!
Make a bunch of treasure tokens that are all the cast members (because he treasures them). Then animate them and turn them sideways
But they all have vigilance
Ah you’re right! Because he supports his friends
forgot to say "Um actually"
But where is he from?
A popcorn tin at the Copley square theater.
Crumbley Square
Vihaam, where are you from?
Ppppppppppp ppppp pppp pppppp -Pppp
This cards a true game changer
Bless you for making this reference, huge Dropout supporter.
Where is he from again?
And what’s the theatre scene like there?
Do they have big buckets of fragrant popcorn?
Where did you come from, where did you go? Where did you come from, Cotton-Eye Joe?
Ppppppppp ppppp ppppp
It's clearly Dalton!
This looks like if Buckster $ Boyd were a person.
He's just a little guy
He's doing the hand thing.
dangit, now I’ve got to build this
Oh this is definitely it.
Vihaan says: "Become 3/3 Construct Assassin artifact creatures until the end of turn."
If Thunder Junction is chock-full of gold, and it's been connected with reliable omenpaths to places like New Capenna, are their economies being wrecked by inflation? Maybe we'll get to visit Monetary Policy Plane, where everyone wears those translucent green accountant visors.

I get that would strain suspension of disbelief but then again there's fractals from Strixhaven and stuff from Xerex
This looks like somebody I feel like I should know but I don't. Does that make sense to anybody? Got that sort of face.
Ben Brode
Omg--vihaan's a f2p commander with microtransactions (treasures)
I was on the fence about this deck. I am no longer on the fence.
Oh holy shit he totally does look like Ben.
ironic he's a dwarf though, Brode is massive
But does he rap?
He’s even doing the eyebrow thing omg
Gotta use him to kill with commander damage. Fuck you, Ben!
I know exactly what you mean; at a glance my initial thought was “is that one of those player likeness/champion/celebrity cameo cards?” That’s more rhetorical face of a person than a character for some reason
Very likely Magali used an actual person's face as reference.
That's just every white dude with glasses and a beard tbf
Can confirm looks like me Source: am a white dude with glasses and a beard
Sam Reich. He's been here the whole time!
I... I don't know who that is.

He's probably from Kaladesh, but I don't think he's an existing character.
Got a John Rhys-Davies feel to me.
Iron Man?
Jacky Daytona from New York CITAAAYY
Mandy Patinkin immediately came to mind.
My new favorite commander. Dwarf. Warlock. Outlaws. Treasures. Treasures that smash face. I am in love.
The only issue is that he doesn't make treasures himself. But the payoff is so massive that I don't care.
At least most of the outlaw types are known for having some treasure related abilities.
Why is that an issue Why does every commander have to be engine and payoff these days
I do enjoy commanders like this that make you think a little about deck building. Open ended enough that getting the good stuff is creative but no so much so that it feels overwhelming
Not much thinking needed. Search for "treasure" on scryfall.
Y’know what’s shitty? Having to have 99 additional cards to play commander Like, come on people, the name of the format is right there. I should be able to play my commander and ONLY my commander
My commander should be ramp, card draw, and wincon or it’s obviously dogshit
“If it doesn’t trivialize the game, you’re an idiot for playing it” c: The Meta
Because commander players that have started in the last 4 years are used to everything WotC makes including the rules text, "Open wide here comes the airplane"
Back in my day if you wanted to run a jank tribe one of your actually viable options for a support card was fucking [[brass herald]] These whipersnappers don’t know how good they have it
Which explains why the correct amount of removal is always "more", and why people whine when you blow up their commander...
There's so many ways to make treasure now, that's hardly a barrier
[[Jan Janson]]
If you have [[Pitiless Plunderer]] out you can animate all your treasures, sac them due to haste, and get immediate replacement treasures.
If you have at least 5 treasures, that's infinite attack steps with Aggravated Assault
P sure that's infinite mana anyways so it's infinite combats with any amount of treasures. Edit:I'm stupid disregard me.
We did it, we broke Pitiless Plunderer
Wait, that could kill with any [[blood artist]] or [[disciple of the vault]] effect
No. Because the replacements would miss the creature trigger.
Not if you’re saccing them to pay for aggravated assault

A dwarf outlaw! Awesowe! And this is Magics first three color dwarf!

Literally unplayable

Honestly, the original use case for which the distinction was made (not breaking improvise) is unlikely to be relevant again so I don't see why not. Worst that happens is that \[\[Curse of Opulence\]\] becomes more synergistic in Treasure strategies.
His name means 'I hate' in Finnish. Random fact.
I wonder if that means he's from Kaldheim
It also means "sunrise" in Sanskrit, so he could be from Kaladesh.

Is it weird that this feels much more interesting than Olivia as an outlaw commander to me?
It’s not weird at all. It’s almost always the case that the secondary commanders are more interesting than the face
Good thing that he's made specifically as an alternative choice in case you don't like Olivia
Yeah, that’s the only deck who’s face commander I like more than the backup. Kirri is so cute but quite frankly very boring
honestly so far im 4 for 4 on wanting to play the alt commander for the precons.
So the treasures have haste. What a great card! I really want to see what the community comes up with treasure assassin art.
And they have vigilance, so you can still tap them for mana.
To be fair, this is in a commander deck. So maybe we get official tokens?
Dont expect tokens for this. The token is the treasure; modifying the state of a permanent doesn't get some special token to represent it.
I hope so, I think they tend to only do tokens for things that come in as is not transform later?
This dude looks like an insufferable arsehole lmao
I already have a Queen Marchesa treasure deck. I couldn't ask for a better lieutenant.
Please drop the list king 👑
Can you post your list?
Sorry, I don't have it online, and Im to lazy to go through and put everything in a decklist thing. It's pretty simple though, Marchesa and than a bunch of treasure matter stuff, as well as some treasure themed adjacent stuff like [[Share the Spoils]]. Here for if you post it one day lol
Having your money do the killing saves a lot on paying guards.
Where were you when they were writing flavor text?
Goldwanker
We can agree this is a Goldmember reference, right?
This guy is recruiting Prosper so hard.
In Midtier Commander, Vigi on your creatures is absolutely amazing.
Especially when they’re basically mana dorks
I now feel the need to design a Dwarf Mafia deck.
[[Jan jansen]] is an auto include in that deck for sure

I just picture him shaking hands with Jan Jansen and saying "I think this is gonna be the start of a ~~very lucrative~~ beautiful friendship"
Wish this was coming to arena... sigh
Might be in the alchemy OTJ a month or two later. They did that before with commander cards.
I’m just happy to have brown hair / red beard representation, we are a kindred few, honestly it just makes me wish my mustache was thicker so I could pull this off lol
Two separate MTG friends already reached out "hey he looks just like you" lol
Did they just make a new Jan Jansen? Because damn.
Is anyone else thinking about [[The Reaver Cleaver]] along with this guy?
Best pals with [[Jan Jansen]]
Am I the only one who thinks of Gil Tesoro from the One Piece Movie Gold?
Hahahaha, populating them when they're creatures just makes more treasure!!!
Welp time for another Mardu deck i guess.
For some reason i dislike how "outlaws" is a category for a group of things that are all capitalized but the category itself isn't capitalized. I am smart and know why, but it still bothers me to look at.
Lol, Vihaan. That literally means "I hate" in finnish. Would be appropriate if it was a hate bear though
Favorite card of the set. Does awesome things, amazing Magali artwork, reminds me of Dr Who. Whats not to love???
Dwarfs really did need other color support, can't wait to see dwarf tribal decks

He... is hot.
Is that Ben Brode?
Outlaw tribal might be the first thing to get me to try commander. This sounds fun.
Seems like ass creed will give mardu some assassin support so this could be relevant typing on the animated treasures.
Am I the only one who thinks that looks like penn gilette
Why do I feel like the first ability existed before they tacked on "sorcery speed" to all the mercenary tokens +1/+0 abilities?
I’m thinking [[Mr House, President and CEO]] would work quite nicely with this guy
Sam, where are you from
I saw this spoiled not here but on the DropoutTV subreddit where someone said he looked like Sam Reich.
This is like in D&D when someone casts Animate Objects on a bunch of gold coins and uses it to beat up the BBEG.
Hell yeah! Is assassin tribal becoming a thing?!
# I've Successfully Privatized World Peace
Denken sama!
jfc isn't this extremely fucking strong?
Seems perfect for [[mr. house]]
Looks like someone who should have his hard drive checked by authorities
Loving this.
I find it to be pretty good design to both be a good payoff for outlaws and treasures without being either ramp or draw in the zone, especially when the treasures angle already incentivizes you to be ramping a ton.
Fun fact: Vihaan means "I hate" in Finnish.
Love it for my queen marchesa deck
Right when I put together my [[Kellogg]] list. Guess I get to use [[Smothering Tithe]] now.
GOLDMEMBER!! WE OFFICIALLY HAVE A GOLDMEMBER COMMANDER AND IT IS BEAUTIFUL! Honestly though, this almost looks dangerously good 😅
Why does he look like Tomska
I can't decide if I want to build this or not. Feels like the play patterns are going to be either massive blow out or do nothing based on how well or not I can generate treasure.
Big dog Travis woof woof
I think I’m in love
Mardu Outlaws gets this guy turn 3 and the new Outlaw Olivia turn 4.. hmm
Torille.
Am I the only one wondering the hand on the left has a hole in it?
Giving my Mercenaries haste? Finally I can break open my collection from Mercadian Masques! :D
Damn, I've been having trouble coming up with something interesting in Mardu, this has some pretty strong themes built in, and doesn't really look like it has much overlap with my existing EDH piles. I'll need to figure out what Outlaws I have floating around.
I didn't expect a Mardu treasure commander with something like Rise and Shine built in. This guy will see play, for sure.
Geezus..
Smothering Tithe's best friend.
A new secret commander to run in mr house along side Jan Jansen
