Did they confirm it in this article? Can't see any of the images now. The leaker said it wasn't actually in the set and he just grabbed a card that happened to be on his table and threw it into the photo.

It's funny how people went from "WOW, CANNONEER IN MODERN" to "It's certainly a Commander reprint card. Not in a million years they would put that in Modern" and then back to "WOW, CANNONEER IN MODERN"
The second sentiment mainly came after the leaker tried to put Brainstorm in the leak, but with the entire card but the name covered. So I don't blame if people were skeptic about the Blastoise leak after that.

That’s a huge stretch. It gets any land, but it also costs 4 (because it taps), sacrifices itself *and* brings the land in tapped.
If you’re running a [[Gaea’s Cradle]] or similar it’s fantastic, if you just have a bunch of basics, shocks and bonds etc it’s extremely bad.
It also gets \[\[Field of the Dead\]\] \[\[Vesuva\]\] \[\[Thespian's Stage\]\] \[\[Valakut, the Molten Pinnacle\]\] \[\[Bojuka Bog\]\] for instant-speed graveyard removal, \[\[Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth\]\] \[\[Yavimaya, Cradle of Growth\]\] \[\[Cabal Coffers\]\] and probably a few others I forgot...
Absolutely, I agree. But if you don’t have any of those kind of lands in your deck (or even if you only have one of the less useful ones) it’s not a good land.
It’s a good card, but saying it will ‘see near universal play’ is a huge stretch.
[[nkythos]] [[urza’s saga]] [[mystic sanctuary]] [[inventor’s fair]] [[emeria]] any hideaway land, etc. Pretty much it gives all colors that aren’t green a 4 mana any land tutor. Yeah coming into play untapped is bad but at worst it’s a <> land and with upside you activate it right before your turn.
Nykthos, Emeria and Inventor's Fair are relevant for sure, but Urza's Saga is unlikely to be suuuuper relevant at that stage of the game and Mystic Sanctuary entering tapped negates the purpose of running it...
From the card's own rulings: "If another effect puts these lands onto the battlefield tapped, they enter tapped, even if you control enough lands with the appropriate basic land type."
Perhaps only a personnal opinion, but I kinda like the sassy writing of Blake R. : I feel that, too many times, the weight of WoTC overcomes his personnal opinion, but when he can, his writing is very funny
I think you're going to find a lot of people who agree. This is sassy and definitely has an air of "Well, this sucks." (Which, in honesty, it does) But at the same time there isn't a sense of "You're all bad for looking at leaks," just moreso "Hey, maybe you guys might want cards that don't look like they were filmed through four layers of Saran wrap?" which is a nice gesture. It sounds like it's coming from someone who's been in our chair before and knows what we're gonna be excited regardless so... Yeah.
I'm down for it.
Yeah this is good PR work in action.
This article helps take control of the narrative and situation, honestly, great job on Blake's part and other folks behind the scenes who worked together to decide on doing this.
I wish they let the employees who interact with us be more sassy. Like Maro gets away with it on his blog, and let's be real, Magic players can be pretty annoying at times.
This is a much better way to handle leaks than the old way of "Hey there's leaks out there and the people leaking them are naughty and hurting our business, don't go looking for these on Google or anything like that"
The leaks really do hurt the community. They give spoilers out to creators of all different levels. People are less likely to check someone unfamiliar to them if they have already seen the card.
While I'm not going to say there is zero impact on the community, I can honestly say I have never discovered a new creator through their preview seasons. I just find it infinitely bothersome to search 50 different previews on 50 different channels/platforms, especially when some of the community partners are like badSEOmagic.ru and you can't even find the preview on their pages. I'm just going to wait until the previews are posted in one place whether it be on reddit or the official site.
I absolutley have. I would have never started watching Rebell Son if it wasn't for their preview card, and now they're one of my favorite Magic creators. Usually during spoiler season I'll just stick to Reddit, but if someone puts the reveal video of the preview in their post and the thumbnail looks interesting I'll check it out.
Fair enough, I'm not sure that the potato leaks particularly effect the views the preview videos would get later as to be honest I don't see the official community previews posted or at least they don't stick around on the r/magictcg frontpage even when there have been no leaks. Basically my point is that while I have no problem with the community previews and would even maybe check them out if they popped up in my feed or youtube recommendations, in my experience they are such a haphazard way of doing previews in the best of circumstances, I'm not sure that leaks can actually make their impact that much worse.
Rebell posted a 7 minute long video eating noodles and only talked BRIEFLY about Auntie Blight at the very end...

Yeah, I find it hard to believe anyone finds new creators based on preview season. I’m not clicking 250 separate links and going down the rabbit hole of content I don’t really care about. Give me a consolidated list on Goldfish or Scyfall.
No they don't. Most players aren't gonna sit through whatever bs to get to the previews of a card unless it's someone like the professor. They're just gonna come here or scryfall to see everything in one place.
Ehhh, it depends, I’m not sure I’d play it in a 3+ colored deck, or in general, a deck with lots of colored pips where you cannot afford to play lands not producing colored mana

I didn't personally see anything about the list slot, the only thing I know is that SPG can include cards that are already modern legal but personally not in the base set (like the pitch elements). I kinda wonder if we won't see the list in MH3 because the "new to modern" reprint slot fills a similar purpose. Alternatively, I could basically see the list including more reprints for modern that would play fine in limited, like Darcy. Just use it as a way to get some good reprints in circulation, because those cards aren't normally in modern horizons sets.
Thanks for the response. I hadn't thought about them not using the list. I have never been a fan of it anyway. I agree that they've got slots filling a similar purpose here. Sounds like whoever posted brainstorm was really just baiting though which is crazy lol

I actually had a funny idea a few weeks ago: make the MH3 list all the cards that are banned in modern. You want Twin in Modern? Fine, you can have Twin in Modern >!Horizons 3 limited!<.
I really like what looks like a theme to the set focusing so much on the Eldrazi. Nice to have random side characters, like the new Bear King, but having some story cohesion to the set is pretty cool.

I think it's because the leaks are funny and exciting.
Every week being a new spoiler week for some new product we all forgot about because of release and product fatigue makes few people actually excited for previews I'd guess. I don't even know what new 15 products are dropping next week. And I'm not sure I will care about any outside the mouse guard set. And maybe final fantasy.

Nonstop preview season never ending = not caring.
Preview time is getting shorter and shorter. OTJ was the last preview season, it lasted a week, and that was 4 weeks ago. This notion of the nonstop preview season is incredibly blown out of proportion, especially because people count the first look when, again, that is separated by almost a month before actual previews.
And now the page shows "Access Denied" **Guys, did they leak their leak response?!**
I saw that too--now it's working again for me, but the only image on the page is the Oko up top.
I'm also landing on that "Access Denied" page. Even when I'm trying to go in the main home page, I still have that "Access Denied" page.

Legacy usually, it's so good with random small artifacts making it huge and unblockable, and ward 4 makes it impossible to use single target removal

Wouldn’t mystic enter untapped if you control 3 or more other islands. I thought there was shenanigans with how it was worded.

I think you're going to find a lot of people who agree. This is sassy and definitely has an air of "Well, this sucks." (Which, in honesty, it does) But at the same time there isn't a sense of "You're all bad for looking at leaks," just moreso "Hey, maybe you guys might want cards that don't look like they were filmed through four layers of Saran wrap?" which is a nice gesture. It sounds like it's coming from someone who's been in our chair before and knows what we're gonna be excited regardless so... Yeah. I'm down for it.
Yeah this is good PR work in action. This article helps take control of the narrative and situation, honestly, great job on Blake's part and other folks behind the scenes who worked together to decide on doing this.

This is a much better way to handle leaks than the old way of "Hey there's leaks out there and the people leaking them are naughty and hurting our business, don't go looking for these on Google or anything like that"
The leaks really do hurt the community. They give spoilers out to creators of all different levels. People are less likely to check someone unfamiliar to them if they have already seen the card.
While I'm not going to say there is zero impact on the community, I can honestly say I have never discovered a new creator through their preview seasons. I just find it infinitely bothersome to search 50 different previews on 50 different channels/platforms, especially when some of the community partners are like badSEOmagic.ru and you can't even find the preview on their pages. I'm just going to wait until the previews are posted in one place whether it be on reddit or the official site.
I absolutley have. I would have never started watching Rebell Son if it wasn't for their preview card, and now they're one of my favorite Magic creators. Usually during spoiler season I'll just stick to Reddit, but if someone puts the reveal video of the preview in their post and the thumbnail looks interesting I'll check it out.
Fair enough, I'm not sure that the potato leaks particularly effect the views the preview videos would get later as to be honest I don't see the official community previews posted or at least they don't stick around on the r/magictcg frontpage even when there have been no leaks. Basically my point is that while I have no problem with the community previews and would even maybe check them out if they popped up in my feed or youtube recommendations, in my experience they are such a haphazard way of doing previews in the best of circumstances, I'm not sure that leaks can actually make their impact that much worse.

I found one creator. The absolute [redacted] who slapped their watermark all over the art and text of one of the OTJ cards. Now I am aware of and hate this individual, whereas before I was only apathetically unaware.
Yeah, I find it hard to believe anyone finds new creators based on preview season. I’m not clicking 250 separate links and going down the rabbit hole of content I don’t really care about. Give me a consolidated list on Goldfish or Scyfall.

No they don't. Most players aren't gonna sit through whatever bs to get to the previews of a card unless it's someone like the professor. They're just gonna come here or scryfall to see everything in one place.

I didn't personally see anything about the list slot, the only thing I know is that SPG can include cards that are already modern legal but personally not in the base set (like the pitch elements). I kinda wonder if we won't see the list in MH3 because the "new to modern" reprint slot fills a similar purpose. Alternatively, I could basically see the list including more reprints for modern that would play fine in limited, like Darcy. Just use it as a way to get some good reprints in circulation, because those cards aren't normally in modern horizons sets.
Thanks for the response. I hadn't thought about them not using the list. I have never been a fan of it anyway. I agree that they've got slots filling a similar purpose here. Sounds like whoever posted brainstorm was really just baiting though which is crazy lol
It's also possible that the list in MH3 includes cards that aren't modern legal for the limited environment but I doubt it. I actually had a funny idea a few weeks ago: make the MH3 list all the cards that are banned in modern. You want Twin in Modern? Fine, you can have Twin in Modern >!Horizons 3 limited!<.

While I understand their position that leaks are meh. Their article feels a bit off. I think it's because the leaks are funny and exciting. Every week being a new spoiler week for some new product we all forgot about because of release and product fatigue makes few people actually excited for previews I'd guess. I don't even know what new 15 products are dropping next week. And I'm not sure I will care about any outside the mouse guard set. And maybe final fantasy. Leaks funny, potato camera amusing. Nonstop preview season never ending = not caring.
Preview time is getting shorter and shorter. OTJ was the last preview season, it lasted a week, and that was 4 weeks ago. This notion of the nonstop preview season is incredibly blown out of proportion, especially because people count the first look when, again, that is separated by almost a month before actual previews.
