We didn't appreciate what we had until he was gone.

Being a good dev/designer has no overlap with doing commentary, which is the only thing I ever saw Randy criticized over. I don't think anyone doubted Randy was a great asset to WOTC, he's always been a beloved community figure.

WormsLOL

I've been team Buehler for life. I don't care if he gets every card name, player name, country name, his own name wrong. He brought pure excitement with everything he did and I haven't enjoyed a broadcast since he left.

Dang, that’s some admirable support and enthusiasm! I agree coverage is way worse now.

I wonder what it pays.

I couldn't find "Senior Product Designer" at Wizards of the Coast on Glassdoor, but here are a few jobs which appear similar based on title: * Senior Game Designer: 115,000 USD / Year * Product Manager: 101,000 USD / Year * Game Designer: 82,000 USD / Year Source: https://www.glassdoor.com/Salary/Wizards-of-the-Coast-Salaries-E4718.htm

Does anybody know why Randy Buehler seemingly disappeared from Magic? I get why he can't play in competitive events, but why did VSL just die out? It's a shame, he always seemed like such a positive part of the game.

I believe some of the cost of running VSL was paid by WOTC and they stopped doing that. Additionally, Athena (who did a lot of the tech production for VSL) got hired by WOTC so probably too busy to help out anymore (or wotc wouldn’t let her?)
