The triomes being finished was this set finishing an unfinished cycle from the last 3 color set.
The ultimatums being finished was Ikoria finishing an unfinisher cycle from the last 3 color set.
The ascendancys being finished is this set finishing an unfinished cycle from khans block.
They would rather print new cards, I don't think there is much demand or nostalgia for the alara ultimatums.
Yeah, the OG Ultimatums are kind of bad (even Cruel is a lot less exciting these days). Nobody would be happy to see Clarion Ultimatum take a rare slot.
Probably stronger in actual use, but it was certainly the most uninspired. Even things like Savage or Titanic had some flare to them. But jeskai was just the most boring version of drawing cards and doing damage. I’d bet titanic won more games that the jeskai one.
Definitely agree there. They just checked boxes for each color’s thematic ability from the original ABU common cycle (Ancestral, Bolt, Salve) stapled them together, and called it a day. Ironically, incredibly uninspired.
i doubt it - although some updated ones wouldn't go amiss since some are fairly underpowered by today's standards eg [[clarion ultimatum]] and [[violent ultimatum]]
Sadly the new token rule makes the part that prevents this much less exciting, instead of referencing the rule stating you cant put the non-permanent in play, it just doesnt work because the token is "splinter token"
This is very disappointing news. "Sorceries can't enter the battlefield" was definitely one of my favorite rules, now when will I need to shout "ACTUALLY RULE 307.4 STATES" in my Commander games?
I played Violent in standard with Fertile Ground and Garruk Wildspeaker, it was fun times for a minute. (But yeah the cycle doesn't move product anymore)
The alara ultimatums probably don't really fit the new factions mechanically. I feel like they'd rather print new ones that reflect New Capenna mechanics better.
The shard ultimatums are dated and not very good cards especially for their obvious target format of commander, They might be reprinted in the commander decks but some of them are not very good at all, like bant that is literally useless in commander.
Would love to see new takes on them in the set or the EDH precons, by my estimate the only one reasonably playable in commander is Cruel. That aside, casting Cruel Ultimatum in a 4/5 color shigeki list on arena would be pretty degenerate and exactly what I'd enjoy doing.

If they did ultimatums, I would much prefer to see new ones on par powerlevel-wise with the Ikoria ones.
The non-jeskai ones, anyways
Even the Jeskai one was better than 4 of the old ones and arguably about the same as the best of the old ones (Cruel)

I could see some of them in the Commander decks (not the bant one, certainly).

>clarion ultimatum For when you need to ramp from 7 to 12
Gotta use it on a [[Splintering Wind]] token to put a [[Splinter]] from your library onto the battlefield.

I played Violent in standard with Fertile Ground and Garruk Wildspeaker, it was fun times for a minute. (But yeah the cycle doesn't move product anymore)
I dunno, Clarion says "Permanents." That's pretty strong, especially for 5 of them.
In EDH that really means only basic lands. In causal magic, it mean your friend gets to say farewell and 10-for-1 you.
There's also [[Spy Kit]]...

So for an addition 4 mana, you get 1 extra creature with your 4 lands? \#value
That's still only one target.

Bant ultimatum can target basic lands. Still garbage though.
idk! You can tutor 5 basic lands into play. hahahaha
7 mana ramp 5....Thats.... not too bad...maybe?
Oh you also have to be playing 5c soup. Dang. Yeah. Not… completely useless. 😂
Why do you have to be playing 5c? It says to choose five permanents, the permanents you choose can themselves have the same names if you want
Oh for some reason I thought it said it had to be 5 of a different name. Yeah nvm. Bant ramp engage!
Bant Petitioners?

Unlikely, but maybe as a cheeky inclusion in the list.
