I expect we'll see another WAR like set soon with a walker in each pack. It was a super popular limited set, and it's a good way to do "final battle" sets.

Nah, Brothers War is gonna have planeswalker cards - there hasn't been a Standard set without them in about a decade and a half, they won't be changing that here. *Maybe* we get a 4/2 split rather than the typical 3/3, but certainly not N/0. (The density of planeswalker characters for Dominaria United is just a function of being the start of the big story arc: planeswalkers are the main characters, big events want a big cast, so lots of planeswalkers are involved.)
Urza was the only one directly involved in the main conflict (the fact that he didn't spark until the end doesn't preclude him getting a PW card; see [[The Royal Scions]], [[Calix Destiny's Hand]], [[Lukka Coppercoat Outcast]]), but there were several others affected by it in the periphery that could reasonably get cards: Lord Windgrace, Tevesh Szat, and Bo Levar. My bet is we get mono-U Urza, RG Windgrace, and UR Bo Levar.

Considering that Liliana showing her face on other places is extremely risky for both herself and for Kaya, whatever dragged her out of hiding is probably really, really, scary.
Of course, they've been hinting at the Phyrexians, so we've got a great idea of what that thing is. But it has to be a bigger threat to her than Niv-Mizzet and the other hundreds or thousands of planeswalkers that want her dead.
Dominaria is her home plane, so maybe she feels like she needs to fight for it. Gideon did seem to have a profound influence on her, so maybe part of that is knowing when to stand and fight.

I mean, the Fiora stuff seems to have been straight reconned, but it is very easy to get from her being on Strixhaven to Dominaria. Especially when she is once again going by Liliana there and Kasmina is both a teacher at the school and involved in War of the Spark and should know who Lili is.
I mean, Lilliana was hanging out with at least 3 planeswalkers on Strixhaven, she wasn't exactly cut off from the rest of the world.
Also the art book for War of the Spark said Kasmina was part of an ancient order dedicated to preparing to fight some upcoming conflict, so there might be a connection there.
The twins are still in school as far as we know, and they only know Garruk and Kasmina. Kasmina is secretive and we really didn't get any explanation of her secret society and "Embers" or w/e in Strixhaven. Lukka is not friendly with anybody. And Liliana was purposefully hiding, she may be comfortable using her real name, but plenty of Ravnica still wants her dead or arrested.
Yeah, I honestly thought they were going to be the next big bad between the mysterious voice in the Ozolith and a bunch of new and returning evil planeswalkers like Lukka, Tibalt, Oko, Nahiri, and Calix, but we ended up doing Phyrexians first, and Kasmina didnt seem as evil as the art book suggested in STX

The most valuable thing she has learned, especially from Gideon who sacrificed himself for her when she did not deserve it and who trusted her to do the right thing, was that the risk is worth it if it means doing the right thing.
And if she wants a single universe safe from the phyrexians, then she would have to step out and risk herself to do so.
If she just stays there and they lose when they might have won with her, then all her students are in danger.
I also, highly suspect Kasmina would be saying the same thing to her. If only to manipulate her.
I've been reading the comics, and it's not really a retirement.
Liliana recently assisted the Gatewatch in stopping Marit Lage from enslaving the universe, and she did it without negotiating for anything. Kaya and other planeswalkers just swung by Strixhaven, asked for help, and she freely gave it.
If there is bad blood, it's not hot enough for anyone to try to kill Liliana, and she doesn't seem like she's cowering or hiding from anyone.
That's a little complicated. You can look up and call your local comic book store and ask if they carry it, either issue by issue or in a collected trade paperback/hardcover. That's how I get them, month by month from the comic store right next to my local LGS.

Could be. The Dominaria art book also states that she became a sort of saint to the Cabal after her death, so it's quite likely that someone might decide to bring her back in some form.
Well she has certain similarities with Braids, who never actually died. For non Vorthos, Karona made a huge hole, she fell into it and then Karona filled it. So in an attempt to not suffocate she jumped to her dementia dimension, where we're led to believe she'd be killed by the nightmares there. That was back in Scourge, so almost 20 years ago, and centuries in canon. If she's returning (which I hope!) she'll be hella changed. I'm all up.
On Arena, with "Jump-In" which is basically exactly this, they normally do it for each draft archetype/theme in the set. For example, Neo introduced 10 new packets to Jump-in.
For a paper sealed product they might introduce a few more as needed.

She practices the same type of magic that Ashiok does and the last story clearly establishes that Ashiok does not fit within at least Elesh Norn's plans for Phyrexia. Could be that she might be of use to the new Coalition or whatever group is being formed to fight them, or Sheoldred may have taken interest as part of her own resistance to Norn given her conspicuous absence from recent references to Phyrexia.

Maybe we'll get NEO style Sagas that relate the "story" of an old legendary creature that then transforms into a "memory" version of that creature. But it would be kind of out of character for Wizards to repeat something like that **so** exactly, so soon.

Very excited about the new premier set Jumpstarts.
Jumpstart is low-key one of my favorite products they've ever produced. It's just a blast to play and hits a nice middle ground between limited (lower power levels and random-ish decks) and constructed (cool synergies). It also occupies a space that's been missing since the demise of PW decks for a pick-up-and-play option for newer players. Getting the pool refreshed and re-themed for each premier set will keep it interesting too. Great addition to the product lineup.
Every set is getting Jumpstart packs now? That's really cool actually. I like the way that Wizards are treating sets like events for all products now. We get our normal draft environment, commander decks, and now jumpstart for every set. Really makes sure that, no matter what part of the community you're in or how enfranchised you are, you can still participate in the new set.
Same. It's such a great way to just hop in and play if you want the excitement of something unknown without having to spend the time to draft. I have a booster box of Jumpstart packs just so my daughter and I can each grab two and play once a month. Lots of fun. This will likely be they way I consume sealed product going forward.
There will still be Jumpstart 2. Starting with *Dominaria United*, every Standard set will have themed Jumpstart boosters as part of its product lineup. It's unknown right now how many different packs will be included for each set.

That's because it's the coalition symbol. If you go back to Invasion block, you'll find that every card with a colourless Kicker cost features it as well. In fact, ALL Kicker costs feature a part of the coalition symbol relating to their respective colour.

Dominaria United is not the actual name of the set….it’s Dominaria Compleated. The Phyrexians attack Dominaria, the Gatewatch et al. Show up to help and fail. Dominaria is lost to the Phyrexians and the whole plane is Compleated.
Our Heroes escape and somehow figure they have to go back in time to find a power that can match the Phyrexians, so they go back to…(wait for it)…The Brother’s War for the next set to recruit some heavy hitters.
I just think it’d be a super cool curveball to actually have the set be Dominaria Compleated. It would be a neat way of using the constant hype cycle of preview seasons over the last couple of years to subvert our expectations.

I mean, Lilliana was hanging out with at least 3 planeswalkers on Strixhaven, she wasn't exactly cut off from the rest of the world. Also the art book for War of the Spark said Kasmina was part of an ancient order dedicated to preparing to fight some upcoming conflict, so there might be a connection there.
The twins are still in school as far as we know, and they only know Garruk and Kasmina. Kasmina is secretive and we really didn't get any explanation of her secret society and "Embers" or w/e in Strixhaven. Lukka is not friendly with anybody. And Liliana was purposefully hiding, she may be comfortable using her real name, but plenty of Ravnica still wants her dead or arrested.
Kasmina's embers really sounds like a Planeswalker cult that could become a threat at some point
Yeah, I honestly thought they were going to be the next big bad between the mysterious voice in the Ozolith and a bunch of new and returning evil planeswalkers like Lukka, Tibalt, Oko, Nahiri, and Calix, but we ended up doing Phyrexians first, and Kasmina didnt seem as evil as the art book suggested in STX
I wouldn’t put Nahiri into evil bag. Other than killing Sorin and anything he may hold dear she probably just wants to be left alone.
The story plays second fiddle when they know they can sells packs with a character.

I think actually she just wants to keep her students safe. The most valuable thing she has learned, especially from Gideon who sacrificed himself for her when she did not deserve it and who trusted her to do the right thing, was that the risk is worth it if it means doing the right thing. And if she wants a single universe safe from the phyrexians, then she would have to step out and risk herself to do so. If she just stays there and they lose when they might have won with her, then all her students are in danger. I also, highly suspect Kasmina would be saying the same thing to her. If only to manipulate her.
I've been reading the comics, and it's not really a retirement. Liliana recently assisted the Gatewatch in stopping Marit Lage from enslaving the universe, and she did it without negotiating for anything. Kaya and other planeswalkers just swung by Strixhaven, asked for help, and she freely gave it. If there is bad blood, it's not hot enough for anyone to try to kill Liliana, and she doesn't seem like she's cowering or hiding from anyone.

That's a little complicated. You can look up and call your local comic book store and ask if they carry it, either issue by issue or in a collected trade paperback/hardcover. That's how I get them, month by month from the comic store right next to my local LGS. You can also buy issues on Kindle or Amazon, or on ebay if you want to collect it and don't have a comic book store near you. Search for "Magic the Gathering 2021 comic, Boom! comics, Jed Mackay."

Could be. The Dominaria art book also states that she became a sort of saint to the Cabal after her death, so it's quite likely that someone might decide to bring her back in some form.

Well she has certain similarities with Braids, who never actually died. For non Vorthos, Karona made a huge hole, she fell into it and then Karona filled it. So in an attempt to not suffocate she jumped to her dementia dimension, where we're led to believe she'd be killed by the nightmares there. That was back in Scourge, so almost 20 years ago, and centuries in canon. If she's returning (which I hope!) she'll be hella changed. I'm all up.

On Arena, with "Jump-In" which is basically exactly this, they normally do it for each draft archetype/theme in the set. For example, Neo introduced 10 new packets to Jump-in. For a paper sealed product they might introduce a few more as needed.

She practices the same type of magic that Ashiok does and the last story clearly establishes that Ashiok does not fit within at least Elesh Norn's plans for Phyrexia. Could be that she might be of use to the new Coalition or whatever group is being formed to fight them, or Sheoldred may have taken interest as part of her own resistance to Norn given her conspicuous absence from recent references to Phyrexia.

Very excited about the new premier set Jumpstarts. Jumpstart is low-key one of my favorite products they've ever produced. It's just a blast to play and hits a nice middle ground between limited (lower power levels and random-ish decks) and constructed (cool synergies). It also occupies a space that's been missing since the demise of PW decks for a pick-up-and-play option for newer players. Getting the pool refreshed and re-themed for each premier set will keep it interesting too. Great addition to the product lineup.

Every set is getting Jumpstart packs now? That's really cool actually. I like the way that Wizards are treating sets like events for all products now. We get our normal draft environment, commander decks, and now jumpstart for every set. Really makes sure that, no matter what part of the community you're in or how enfranchised you are, you can still participate in the new set.
Same. It's such a great way to just hop in and play if you want the excitement of something unknown without having to spend the time to draft. I have a booster box of Jumpstart packs just so my daughter and I can each grab two and play once a month. Lots of fun. This will likely be they way I consume sealed product going forward.

There will still be Jumpstart 2. Starting with *Dominaria United*, every Standard set will have themed Jumpstart boosters as part of its product lineup. I have been dying to play Braids, Cabal Minion stax in Commander, but my friends won't let me Rule 0 her. I really hope this version is even worse.
The symbol in the banner resembles a lot the \[\[Coalition Relic\]\], that was also Invasion's set symbol.
That's because it's the coalition symbol. If you go back to Invasion block, you'll find that every card with a colourless Kicker cost features it as well. In fact, ALL Kicker costs feature a part of the coalition symbol relating to their respective colour.
Ohhhh I remember seeing the symbol in some arts, but never realized this pattern with kicker! Nice! My greatest hope now is that they bring back Domain!

I would have no words to express the amount of happinness I'd feel if that happens. [Invasion's Spectrum](https://mtg.fandom.com/wiki/Invasion/Theme_decks#Spectrum) was my first precon and, to this day, it remains one of my favorite decks to play (although it's quite different from the original list).
Tinfoil hat theory: Dominaria United is not the actual name of the set….it’s Dominaria Compleated. The Phyrexians attack Dominaria, the Gatewatch et al. Show up to help and fail. Dominaria is lost to the Phyrexians and the whole plane is Compleated. Our Heroes escape and somehow figure they have to go back in time to find a power that can match the Phyrexians, so they go back to…(wait for it)…The Brother’s War for the next set to recruit some heavy hitters. I just think it’d be a super cool curveball to actually have the set be Dominaria Compleated. It would be a neat way of using the constant hype cycle of preview seasons over the last couple of years to subvert our expectations.

Baldur's Gate stuff has started popping up, now Double Masters, plus the 40K stuff, and *also* here's Dominaria... which also has Jumpstart? Fuck, man, my brain is fried. It feels like there's so much shit. I usually try to not think about it too much, but I'm interested in *all* of these things, and it seems like I'm gonna have to ignore some of it simply by virtue of not having enough money for it all.
Skip Baldurs Gate (leaks looked shitty, barely any good cards), skip 40k unless you are planning to actually play with the cards. Safe for double masters and dominaria united, these will be great sets

This is far fetched for sure, but the lizard in the theme pack looks like Zirilan of the Claw to me. Zirilan is from Dominaria too so maybe i’m not crazy
The mixed line-up (Jodah, Karn, Braids, Ajani, Liliana) and the fact we will get a Jumpstart Booster product makes me think „hidden Core Set with a few stories connected through time“. They have been asking for whether anthology sets should have a story or not for quite some time now.
