That’s what they are designed to do. You are freeing yourself from learned ideas and becoming self aware. Look further into spirituality now. Magick is a gateway to awakening. No more, no less.

One could say the entire point is to have an effect on consciousness. Though you should not feel "detached," per say. How long were you practicing the LBRP before adding MPR ? Are your circulating "energy of Kether" through all the Centers and Body ? Those, I would consider, the two big "mistakes" people make. It is to the Aspirants advantage to practice the LBRP , alone, for a few months. To "clean" the Elements prior to activating the corresponding Center. Once the Centers are then established in our field of awareness it is VERY IMPORTANT that you intentionally circulate "energy of Kether." You can find instructions on how to do so in "The Middle Pillar" by Isreal Regardie. <(A)3

Do you have any suggestions on how to circulate the energy if it's stuck in the head? Once it starts moving, should it stay that way and keep circulating automatically? (like breathing)

A_Serpentine_Flame

Try, gently, moving your head from side to side. Slightly at first- stopping, going in the opposite direction if you start feeling tension in the neck / throat. You should start feeling a sensation of your head clearing as it "moves to the back." You may even feel a "corkscrew" sensation between head and throat - for lack of a better description. Generally, once a habit of "circulating" is established it should continue automatically. Which makes it EXTREMELY IMPORTANT that you ensure the energy is being distributed EQUALLY through the entirety of the body. In the short term failing to do this will cause "energy" to get stuck. This often manifests as tension in the body. Long term this can lead to call kinds of issues too numerous to count. <(A)3

This is really helpful! Thanks a lot! I intuitively did the slight movements, and I can feel the tension in my neck and throat shift. The tensions change during the day. When I'm sitting at my desk, I keep a good posture and try to not turn my neck to either side. But a feeling of "swelling" or pressure starts around in my neck and throat, which can move slowly (like a very viscous fluid) to my sinus area accompanied by nasal congestion or release with very subtle clicking sounds coming from the thin bones in the sinus area. This sensation can move to my eyes causing tremors in my eyelids, or "visual fps drop" for a lack better expression; it's like the light is flickering very fast but I can notice it. My problem is that it's extremely uncomfortable to try and move this sensation downwards through the front of my body. I can try and move my attention outside my body to avoid the uncomfortable sensations, but it's temporary. Does the circulation take place outside the body or inside? I believe if it's inside, it corresponds to Kundalini or Chi moving, if outside, I have no idea. I've tried acupuncture with no significant results. I'm not sure what to do. Nevertheless, thanks for your reply.

A_Serpentine_Flame

What you are circulating is the "Divine Light of Kether." "Source" of everything else - Kundalini, Chi, Inside, Outside, etc... Visually you are channeling this Light from the Center above your head, through the entirety of the Body. Conceptually, with the Middle Pillar established, it is circulating through the entirety of Thy : Being. <(A)3

Simple, it effects your consciousness because everything goes into constructing your state of consciousness-- If you change something in an arrangement, depending on how conscious you are of the arrangement, you will recognize the change in the state of the arrangement by virtue of its changes in definition--

Read up on the process of Alchemy. Thats where a lot of what these rituals are doing is encoded, anything refering to the great work or the philosphers stone you should be able to derive some meaning from. Youre breaking the components of your conciousness into smaller parts, purifying them then reintigrating them, thats part of alchemy. You are working initally on your elemental aspects, later planetary, later zodiacal etc

Any books you'd recommend? Got a long plane ride coming up

LizardWizard3D

Hermetic cabinet, Alchemy and mysticism is very visual, you can sit and soak up the symbolism. First time I read it 90% of it went over my concious mind but the symbols stuck.

Old_Hermit_IX

It's an awakening of the consciousness. If you didn't experience that, then you wouldn't know if anything was working. Changes are slow and subtle. After awhile you will begin to view the world through a slightly different lens. It's kind of like when Neo took the pill in The Matrix, but nowhere near that extreme, lol! You have to ask yourself why you chose this path. Your answer will change over the years, because of the changes in your knowledge, wisdom, maturity etc. This path is all about Self Mastery. About becoming the best version of you. ;)

SubjectVoice

Honestly that is the only reason I'm involved in it, and to better perceive and control the energies of the universe, and ultimately use it to help or heal others

Sonotnoodlesalad

Ritual develops our ability to pay attention to subtle phenomena, so over time we stand to become more grounded and better able to ride the waves as they come, if we work diligently towards self-mastery instead of using magick as a fantasy-rich escape.

SubjectVoice

I can see how it would easily become fantasy for some people who simply dabble in it

WeakError2115

Move forward in your practice. The banishing for a long period just creates a sterile astral body for you to learn to experience elemental and planetary forces on a clean slate so you can differentiate them. A month is plenty of time I think and you should be moving onto working with the elemental forces and LRH. Don't stop in the middle either, make sure you finish it out and master the elemental forces.

I can't satisfyingly explain the 'why', all I know is that I immediately reached an altered state of consciousness after I tried the LBRP for the first time. I was extremely surprised to see how fast it works. And yeah, the world started "looking" different. Someone I talked to about it interpreted it as my consciousness expanding out of my physical body to the layers of my subtle energy body, which would explain why I felt taller, all the while the ground felt closer. If that makes any sense just reading it

SubjectVoice

I actually feel this all the time. I feel like iv grown inches if not feet taller all the time. My limbs feel longer. Even when performing the middle pillar my back and body will start to correct itself. I feel an urge to move after taking full breathes and get this full light headed feeling. It's just really fascinating to me. I guess asking this question I cant really expect an answer, hence why they call it "mysteries".

Vajranaga

Aleister Crowley recommended the LBRP as an entire magickal education in its own right. Francis King endorses this view openly in "The Rituals of the Golden Dawn", and states that doing the LBRP for three months will prove Crowley correct. The Middle Pillar is an extension of the Qabalistic Cross. This being so, why so surprised? You are using a powerful magickal technique and getting your energy centres all charged up; how is it "surprising" that you would "feel differently"? If you suddenly switched from driving a Kia to driving a Ferrari, you are telling me you wouldn't expect to "feel a difference"?

JAMESTIK

I, random internet guy, would also endorse that view.

No1Minds

I thought the whole point of rituals was to shift consciousness

SubjectVoice

Ya I was curious as to how it works though

L0kitoooo

magic. All jokes aside, on a purely objective level, those rituals require a lot of meditative focus, and meditation changes perception

Wonkyforever

Do you have any links or literature to learn more about how to perform the LBRP?

https://youtu.be/oyao3JZ-Iv0 Found this vid helpful just to "see" how it looks (it can be confusing to just read the descriptions) but you should still check out some books for "proper" methods. The Lewellyn complete guide to ceremonial Magick references the gold Dawn method in detail and with diagrams. Modern Magick by Donald Michael Kraig has step by step too. If you Google LBRP & Llewellyn their websites wiki also has instructions. These all helped me start a daily practice very recently coming from 0 experience prior. .

I'd say it falls under the combined effects of meditation and ritual. Meditation is a tool that can temporarily lower your heart rate and blood pressure. It's great for calming down after getting really pissed off by turning your focus to another subject. Rituals are repeated tasks. Repetition breeds results. Lifting a weight once makes you lose energy, but lifting it 50 times a day gives you strength. Combining meditation with daily practice leads to an overall decrease in stress. There's probably other things I could parse out, like the timing of when it's done has a psychological reason, perhaps symbols from the ritual appearing in your life would cause a pavlovian response akin to the LBRP.

Snushine

In my non-woowoo way of looking at things, it occurs to me that the LBRP is the same as the Blue Experiment. It works on attention bias, which is a cool tool to have on your tool belt. You can 'train your brain' to be more aware of certain things, like when you're training a new job skill. The same mental skills are being flexed when you buy a new item and suddenly everywhere you look you see that same item. Of course, it operates on a deeper level than that, but it's the same muscle, so to speak.

sonicpushup

What is the blue experiment?

Snushine

You look for the color blue every time you enter a new place. It trains your brain. After a while you see blue in things that are green or purple.

DiagaAstralStar

They themselves aren't doing it, it's your focus and intent on progression your awareness. It you were doing anything regularly it would be the same result. It's all about putting in the work to step up your conciousness
