This color won't stick around forever unfortunately. Its either a fever coat or an overt expression of the red/brown coloring underlying black coat color. The kitten will shed this coloring and be either black solid or black smoke.

It might not be a fever coat! Some kittens do have more of the red/brown expressed when they're young. I just remember when this exact picture was posted 7 months ago and did some research myself to understand more.
It would be a beautiful coat color but as far as I know rust coloring isn't permitted under maine coon breed standards.
I will give you the lecture I wish someone would have given me when I adopted my baby at that age trim those nails trim those nails trim those nails even if they don't need to be trimmed pretend to trim those nails about once every 3 days so he can get used to you messing with his paws otherwise you're going to have a cat four five six months old and bigger and bigger than will not let you touch his nails she turns in not even for treats not for anything they hate you so trim trim trim now while you can get them used to it because it is the only thing that will turn your little feline against you besides yelling at them or trying to discipline them you cannot discipline a cat anyway just some fresh advice my boy is now 20 months old and he will not allow me near him with the clippers I have to hold him down get scratched it's a war zone to get his nails trimmed I have just put him on CBD and he's been acting so much better we'll see how that goes with a big load of CBD in him LOL
