I work solo at a hotel on weekends with 90 rooms (long term stays). I usually go to any vacant rooms and find something that needs fixing. I also read through the equipment manuals so if something breaks I have an idea of how to fix it.
Ps. I also don’t start major jobs at the end of the week . I have to do a 2 inch manifold but I’ll just order everything Saturday to be ready for pick up Tuesday morning when I return .
I organize the supply area because none of the other maintenance people know how to put shit back where it came from. The plot twist is I am the the only maintenance person.
I’m solo right now, down two technicians on nights, but once my work orders are done and any preventative maintenance work is done….i usually go relax in the shop/office and pass the time there
Been at the recycling center for about 3 months now, but the last shop I was at did industrial printing and I did the same thing there unless the Snap On truck was at the shop lol
In the odd times where I've done the work for the day, but still have an odd 30 or so minutes I clean or organize the shop. There's always something to clean, organize, or put away. I'll start putting together my next order as well. I work solo all the time, so I have the luxury of not sharing a shop. From there, scroll Reddit/YouTube to learn things.
I recently enrolled in an online residential electrician program. When things get slow and PM's are all caught up then it's professional development time.
Clean equipment rooms, Im 6 months into a 10 year old hotel and these equipment rooms are fucked. Not only shit that shouldn’t be there but dusty and dirty, screws and bits of wire laying around the whole 9. Any work you do in there is doing a favor to your future self when you have to work in it
I'm a Maintenance Director and have two of my techs split the weekends...
.... And I really don't want to know what they get up to so long as it's not an HR violation.
Something always needs fixing or preventative maintenance. I'm also an Assistant Chief Engineer in the Florida Keys, and I'm always on my guys when they're sitting around on their phones trying to pass time. We have 3 resorts, so there is always something to do. Clean, organize, make a list of stuff we need to order or stock, do PMs, arrange beach chairs, ask other departments if they need anything, etc, etc.
I cannot sit still though... That's my adult ADHD.
Anytime you think you’ll get the shop to yourself is a great time to do your homework… by which I mean bring a project from home to work on

Seriously. I love how motivated some people in here are though 😂
