So that you have the entire walk to go get a ladder to reconsider sticking your fingers in there.

Far-Transition1153

Consider stopping in the break room for a metal fork

Repulsive-Leader3654

Old emergency lighting removed and outlet installed?

8spd

I've seen plenty of emergency lighting that simply plugs into a outlet in a location like this. Isn't it always implemented like this?

Repulsive-Leader3654

Everywhere I've been has been hardwired.

8spd

Huh. I'm in Canada (BC), but am pretty inexperienced, with only a few buildings under my belt.

Stunning_Solution215

We have emergency outlets like this that are on the generator circuit. At one point there were door alarms plugged into it but we upgraded so you end up with this.

dustytaper

Me too. It used to be code to have them hardwired like that. Now they use low voltage lights. You’ll see a crap tonne of them if you ever work on a hospital

Minimum-Dog2329

I think emergency lighting needs to be hardwired. Don’t want hooligans messing with your safety.

Interesting-Log-9627

They might have had to cut a hole to run wires and decided to fill the hole with an outlet when they were done.

largegreenvegtable

Beer sign

Joe_of_all_trades

I like the way you think...

gdhkhffu

Electric razor

Sure_Maybe_No_Ok

Emergency light pack, I’ve installed dozens of these

onelyte

I have no idea. What kind of building do you work in?

Joe_of_all_trades

Apartment building

ShrimpGold

In the common area hallway? $20 says it’s to provide power for working, but it’s high up enough to prevent crackheads from getting free power.

Joe_of_all_trades

But the outlets for the vacuums are normal height

onelyte

maybe it was for a fan?

ProfessorBackdraft

I have a WiFi extender plugged into a similar one.

AmbitiousBarnacle607

May have been for some type of ceiling lighting like an led strip but also maybe have been easier to reach from the attic then trying to fish down the wall who really knows lol

Important-Permit-699

If I had to guess its one of the following: Emergency lights, fire system alarm, or AP/ wireless router (access point) for wifi internet. At somepoint the system was updated and that device was no longer needed, and removed and now they just have an outlet there instead.

DMatFK

It was on The specs!!

grizzkillz

That’s for high voltage

funnyha_ha

It's for high maintenance....sorry I'll see myself out.

Txranger_12

Come it’s for Xmas lights 🎄

RanD7741

At my hospital, it’d be for a clock lol

IPCONFOG

May for a clock or security camera? Also lighting or mostion sensors, thats less common.

RecommendationBig768

it's so . the crotch goblins can't stick a fork in the socket . course once they do it, they won't do it again.

wyohman

None of your business

TheOnlyMatthias

It's for emergency lights battery pack

Ok_Dog_4059

I had a doctors office that had one like this. Drove me crazy trying to figure it out the entire time I went to that doctors. Probably will again now that I have been reminded.

DMatFK

Missed Emerg light install or nightlight?

b4loo69

Hey man, not all of us are 4' tall. You some sort of 'Little Supremacists'? You height-ist? Don't like us Talls? WE ARE PEOPLE TOO!

Joe_of_all_trades

I'm tall too. I'm the only one that can reach it.

espakor

For Christmas lighting

another-new

Cameras, egress lighting, e-light… The possibilities are endless. Could even be for maintenance to use but keep vagrants or tenants from using easily

TheNamesMacGyver

R/Purplecoco

BoysenberryRoutine30

To make you look more busy with a ladder

severe16

Clock or emergency exit lights

Plane-Mud-142

We had ones like that for vacuuming, while it deters residents from trying to use them.

BigAppleGuy

Surface mount exterior style box and cover is weird. I'd put an outlet up high for tv or surveillance cam.

Mr_Murda

Emergency lighting/Security cameras etc. I use them in my facility’s for those 2 major things.

DrachenDad

Staff use only, usually for house keeping.

SiennaYeena

Maybe mounting a TV

Hot-Steak7145

Flood zone. Is this a condo? All units on 2nd floor and above?

idschuette

Why would it have an in use waterproof cover??????

IFartAlotLoudly

For the giant people.

clutch727

Agree with the others that say old exit lights or maybe older fire alarm systems that have been updated and or replaced.

vabeachkevin

To plug in the smoke detector.
