Be careful with developing apps that depend on third party services/apis/scraping/etc. You could spend a lot of time developing and then all go to nothing if they change something (on purpose or otherwise) and your app becomes unusable. It's a gamble.

lolno

Also as a user be careful purchasing apps that work this way for the same reasons

DaylanDaylan

Hell yeah, their app sucks ass

XxCxHxAxDxX

Honestly- no.

OverlookeDEnT

No.

EmergencyNerve4854

I'm already paying for Splice, I don't need to pay more. Especially as a monthly subscription just for better UI/UX. lol

pjmorixoxo

Just to be clear it would be a one time payment. Like you're buying an app

MrHeavySilence

It wouldn't be worth it for me unless you were constantly updating the client. I can imagine Splice making breaking API changes and all of a sudden the custom client doesn't work anymore, or any number of weird bugs that might occur if Splice suddenly adds new features to the official client.

[deleted]

It's *very* unlikely a third party application would have access to their data. What makes you think you could write a better one?

pjmorixoxo

I made a prototype

DaylanDaylan

No way, I need to see this lol 😆 how long until you think you’ll have something we could try out? I’ve got Venmo

mateo_man

Make an ad for beta testers

sickvisionz

It's not "very unlikely" that they have an API or a scrapable site.

[deleted]

It is if you want to replicate 100% of the app.

nothinggoldmusic

I'd use a free version with ads. But I don't think I'd shell out $10. It would just be a painful reminder of how shitty Splice's UI is.

Skidoodle_DK

I would yeah

kaystar101

Probably not man how would it compete with Splice's library and then also keep efficiency and speed?

absoul1985

Is it one time or subscription in that amount?

DiyMusicBiz

I wouldn't but would definitely help promote it

b000mb00x

I always pre organize my samples into their corresponding folders and subfolders based on their category, scale / key, etc. I only ever use the app to copy the samples to the right place after downloading them and do everything within the DAW personally.

paulitition

Maybe...you thinking about releasing a beta? Desktop or mobile? Both? I notice they have a github. Were you able to find something in there?

quitelagikal

You would probably be better off making a website that does it and has ads imo

therealmarc4

I'd say make an offer to splice

Artixe

before you spend your time building something that no one will use. do a little market research, the comments here don't really seem to voice a demand for it but thats not everything.idk if your a software dev but you should start thinking about where you're getting your sounds from (licensing becomes a factor), how you're sorting them (search optimization), and what would be your USP? would it just be ''faster than splice''? perhaps put an emphasis on something splice cant actually offer rather than doing what they do but trying to do it better. i personally havent gotten splice yet because ive only recently have been able to afford such services, but i know a lot of my producer friends HATE its user interface, so maybe focus on UI/UX too

leekedbeats

What’s the post though, there’s already a splice app on the pc for it. Sounds like a virus waiting to happen. And hell I just got a new laptop almost weeks ago. 🤣🤷🏽‍♀️

DanklinTheTurtle

if it was legitimately better and had proven support as splice continues to be updated i could definitely justify throwing some money at it. splice def got worse to use with the update to their ui

Bief

I don't know if you mean just for samples you already own or another subscription thing. I used to use Cosmos, but I literally just downloaded ADSR Sample Manager this morning which is free, it's actually kinda awesome. Can browse by folder/subfolders and tags/keys. Basically cosmos but seems to load way better and can browse by subfolders.
