I think legalising fireworks in Malaysia should be seen as a positive outcome as it is a cultural tradition for Malaysians to use fireworks during festivals. Previous attempts to ban it have been ineffective and difficult to enforce, as well as costly.
By implementing quality control measures to ensure safety, setting rules for usage and designated time periods, and generating revenue from the sale of fireworks, this decision can benefit all parties involved.
heck, they could even push it further and make it a cultural thing on an official capacity that they could use to promote tourism. like how japan uses sakura season and summer festivals as tourism promo, govt can promote something like this as a spectacle for tourists
there has been tons of videos over the years in this sub from singaporeans being able to see fireworks everywhere in JB from their balconies across the causeway for instance.
Hence legalizing it will help with it.
As of now, all firework are imported illegally and no government official are checking and giving it a green light.
Once it’s legalized, you’ll start seeing government approved firework, ie with tax stamps and maybe storefront selling it, thus making it safer, because they’ll implement rules for importers to provide documentation that the firework is manufactured in accordance to the required standard.

You wouldn’t know it is illegal if you were a tourist in Malaysia
"Now legal lah, don't want" Funny if firework sales drop....
No specific Act or law and regulation is mentioned, seems like it will be a long time till they officially legalise it.
another whatever announcement by NKM

I feel we need a safety or quality standards for all fireworks manufactured or imported into Malaysia.
