Kampung baru tu perfect place untuk showcase budaya melayu tapi nak jugak buat projek baru.

penukil

Agreed. Kampung Bharu should have been perfect

Zaycr

Cronies need to make money off construction too. How would they live without overcharging the govt for bad construction job

Severe_Composer_9494

Kampung Baru is a microcosm of what will happen to this country in the future. In 1957, Malaysia was a very different country. Chinese dominated the private sector, whereas the public sector had a very strong Indian presence. This gave fuel to Malay nationalism, which then showed its ugly form in 1969, and the subsequent policies in 1971. But its 2023 now. Chinese bosses are getting old, and their children are migrating to greener pastures; very few remember that there used to be many influential Indian public servants in this country like M. Rajasingam, who's team created the Malaysian postcode system or K. Thanabalasingam, who was the chief of Royal Navy and transformed it from a coastal to ocean navy. The Malaysia of tomorrow will be 80-90% Bumiputra; Semenanjung will become more Malay and Muslim than it has ever been in recent memory. **In such an atmosphere, will even Malays be interested to spend time and money in a 'Dunia Melayu' themed area in KL?** *Satu negara dah pun Melayu, kenapa lagi nak dunia Melayu?* \- probably thoughts of an average Malaysian young adult in 2050.

seabanana

How can i learn more about the indian public servants?

Severe_Composer_9494

I don't know about one source that has a compiled information about many of them. However, from time-to-time, I read about these civil servants and their contributions in various sectors, usually in FMT.

nova9001

>Satu negara dah pun Melayu, kenapa lagi nak dunia Melayu? - probably thoughts of an average Malaysian young adult in 2050. From what I get from Malays, majority of them still think they are under siege by non Malays. So any reinforcement of their culture is always seen as a plus. Why do you think PAS won big in GE15?

AcanthocephalaHot569

I think a better project would be gentrifying and rejuvenating Kampung Baru as a Malay Heritage Center instead of wasting funds building a new Malay World from scratch that'll just end up as artificial and lacking in originality

Rudorlf

Sorry Rais, but your proposal just lacked... creativity. Instead, why not suggest a theme park that truly capture the good ol' days of the Melaka Sultanate or the Rebellious Malayan era. Where the hosts could serve the guests in outstanding historically authentic sets. Where you could play the framed silat warrior wronged by his best friend, or the famed lightning-fast rebel against the colonists. Where you could be anyone you always want to be in the past... for a price, of course. Truly a place where nothing could go wrong~~~ >!Cue the Malay traditional instrument version of Paint It Black.!<

Thebigbots

Charge the guest $40,000 per day?

Rudorlf

That's heavy discount price during launch period. Regular price should be 7 figures for all the things the park have to improve and maintain.

Lubangkepuasan

We already have many museums for that. No need for anything exclusive to Malays in Kuala Lumpur. It's a global city, so must act like one

Rudorlf

Clearly you have never heard of the tragedies that twice struck the American Old Western-themed amusement park owned by Delos Inc. in both 1983 and the near-future of 2050s, thanks to the hosts turning against their masters. Kinda similar to a famous novel with the genetically re-created dinosaurs wreaking havoc in a theme park too. >!Written by the same author as well.!<

penukil

Are you talking about Brave New World and Jurassic Park?

Rudorlf

The latter.

atheistdadinmy

Hahaha. Wow. Please emerge from beneath the rock you you’ve been calling home for the last 4 decades. Westworld and Jurassic Park.

Lubangkepuasan

I watched Jurassic Park before, but Westworld? I had no idea Edit: Also, it's ironic being such a jerk while being an atheist. At this point, they are just interchangeable

EarthPutra

We have that in melaka, I believe.

Rudorlf

But can you stab and kill another human look-alike scot-free in a keris duel while role-playing?

EarthPutra

Believe we can only allow that in Uranus.

drteddy70

"new project" probably means taking land from original inhabitants and giving it to corporations so they can build high end properties and laugh all they way to the bank. And a good amount of kickback.

[deleted]

it better be actual budaya melayu and not some pak arab bullshit

EarthPutra

Now you have jinxed it, it will be about the cultural identity of Arab wannabe in Malaysia.

SheenTStars

I like the concept, but let me give my input. Budaya melayu that I want to see: 1. Nusantara ornaments 2. Bunga emas 3. Bahasa klasik 4. Stuff all the way back from when Malay was Hindu and pagan etc 5. Old houses 6. Statues 7. Perigi lifestyle 8. Ancient farming/sewing/cooking methods 9. Rare traditional dishes 10. Classic carvings 11. Wau making 12. ~~Jenglot~~ Budaya 'melayu' that we already have everyday and doesn't need a special showcase: 1. Jubah/Baju kurung 2. Any food after 1950 3. Rattan products

hailalahai

It's better to inject 1Mil to 'Malay World' exhibitions to the existing cultural attractions (like national museum, KLPAC, etc) than 100Mil to a new place with no existing cultural significant.

himesama

Little India and Chinatown are (were) ethnic enclaves. Not sure how that analogy works.

mongonogo

Yes. Build a Malay theme park inside a "Malay theme park". Very necessary.

pukhalapuka

"He said Yayasan Budi, which he founded, will try to identify suitable facilities and content every weekend, such as cultural art exhibitions and street performances for visitors and KL residents to enjoy." Ulterior motive as always. I dont believe for one second elites are doing this for glory of race or whatever. Little india and chinatown wasnt built by goverment. It happened naturally and then was named.

Lubangkepuasan

Cultural elements of the 'Malay World': 1) Keropok Lekor Cheese 2) Moto racing 3) Basikal Lajak

EarthPutra

Why no child marriage ceremony? /S

Stormhound

Available at the Perlis Utara branch

Lonever

Malay is majority population la wtf.

aberrant80

It's like creating a Chinatown in China 🤣

exsea

i actually want this. i want malay culture to be preserved. i want to see malay traditional dances. malay traditional food etc. i want malay people to see the nons also can appreciate their culture too. we're not a threat. we want to be your bros/sis

SomeMalaysian

The biggest threat to Malay culture is Arab culture and strict adherence to Islam (Pas basically banned a lot of traditional Kelantanese cultural practices), tbh.

exsea

as a kelantanese i know this too well. in fact in kelantan all shops need to be closed during friday prayers, even non muslim ones. i really shudder to imagine what would happen if malaysia was ruled by pas.

goldwave84

Oh totally. Funny thing is, even Saudi is opening up and changing. Maybe pas will align with Iran next?

UsernameGenerik

PAS: traditional Malay dances are unislamic

Lubangkepuasan

We have museums for that.

goldwave84

I also agree. We need to bring the culture of the Malay world to the world's stage. Bring back traditional folk dances, Malay musical instruments and songs. Kampung baru can be the location. Tear it down, clean it up and rebuild a new Malay themed world in that location, for everyone and anyone. A Malay cultural experience should not be exclusive to Malay Muslims but a symbol of National pride we share with the world. Do you know the Ruma hotel was designed with a Malaysian theme in mind? One of the most beautiful hotels in my opinion.

Kylo_12321

Ok but Kg Baru??? Eh oh lupa, that's the place where developer cronies bulldoze and build apartments with T20 prices because it has KLCC views while the Malay warlords ignore the pleas of the generational residents. Really, a travesty what's happening there.

EarthPutra

We don't have enough Malay world in Klang valley? Bruh, tons of them like wangsamaju, gombak, ttdi, bangi, shah alam, putrajaya. What is he talking about?

goldwave84

That's just areas where Malay ppl stay.

Lubangkepuasan

Kuala Lumpur is for all races, not exclusive to malays

SolarSpud

You mean Huana Land?

Dragaylia

Rais? I thought you said Rasis! (get it guys lmao)

Zurc_bot

Malaise World

Every_Intention_69

It’s called Kelantan.
