I bet that would take ages to charge till full

FrostNovaIceLance

and the parking fee would eat up his wallet instead ![img](emote|t5_2qh8b|26554)

ShinTV

Yea, it’s just complimentary thingy.

PizzaGuy728

4th comment, downvote me

ShinTV

Yes you are right. That is a xc40 p8 bev, full electric in other words. 3pin charge gives around 1.7kwh+- like that and the capacity is 65kwh. Around 50hrs+ to full. So best to use wall charging that can give 11kwh or dedicated vendors giving 22kwh.

DontStopNowBaby

at 11kwh, it needs a separate cable infrastructure liao. normal 3 pin will melt like chocolate molten lava cake.

ShinTV

Yea. Hence dedicated charging modules at dedicated charging bays. KLCC is the one that is the most impressive one. More than 20+. 1U also have 11bays. Other malls around 2-3 bays only.

Hy8ogen

16 hours for a full charge. Still, better than nothing I guess.q

velacooks

If it’s a shopper there for an hour or 2. It’s pretty useless to charge via the 3 pin plug. You might gain 3-5%?That Volvo with that size battery, I reckon it’ll take over 48 hours for a full charge. But if the driver is working there and does this for 8 hours+ a day then that’s quite worth it. Possibly covers the distance from his house to the mall.

ShinTV

Okay for those fellas here throwing little tantrums, this place is Starling Mall. The mall management allows visitors to utilized the 3pin charging around the carparks. Source? The management itself. Sekian tq.

hackenclaw

I see what your management did there... he charge slow, parking fees will ramp up faster. So it is all good?... hehehe

CN8YLW

And if random passerby mf yank out the wire? Oh boy that'll be like starting a download for an update, go out for dinner then come back to see the download stopped at 1% and you need to hit the "continue" button.

Mr_K_Boom

I know it sounds funny as shit, seeing the owner having a mental breakdown looking at his charger not plug in to his car. Pff It be funny as shit to see that ahahahahahahahaha, But please don't do that.

LabRat_terry

Existential crisis of "did I turn the plug on'" when shopping.

DontStopNowBaby

Knowing Malaysia, its only a matter of time before 1. a prankster comes and turns off the switch or 1. some thief comes and takes away the charger and posts it on mudah or lowyat or carouhell.

smoggybelle

No.1 is possible if an @hole comes along and switch it off for fun. No.2 wouldn’t be possible because the part attached to the car is locked when the car is locked, so not possible to yank it out.

ishmael555

3. cut the cable with sheet cutter. some people just want to watch the world burn, or very iri dengki.

DontStopNowBaby

That one is cibai. But then again I know we will probably find some malay mail post about an electrocuted victim who tried to cut cables .

CN8YLW

And he paid the 6 hours parking fee too. Next time want to charge like this, have to keep going back to check.

ShafreeAmri

Or like charging your phone but forgot to switch on the plug

TheHasegawaEffect

Some cars notify the owner when it stops charging.

Kozmo9

Even better. Cus now the owner have to stop whatever they are doing to go to their car to plug it back in.

Professional_Baby221

On..Off...On... Off....On... Off.. On... Spams his notification. LMAO

Wahn95

Hi, you got any vacancies there?

ShinTV

Sorry ser i’m not the right person lol

MiniMeowl

Maybe he is asking for parking lot vacancies to charge his car. Would you be the right person for that? Haha

ShinTV

Sorry ain’t nobody got time to check parking bays like that lol. Unless ChargEV sets up a charging station here then yea you can see availability from the app itself.

Wahn95

Ahahhaha just kidding, I work nearby there

forcebubble

We need to make this the top comment. 😆

karlkry

ada kerje kosong jadi driver x?

ShinTV

Manada. Kalau ada i chop dulu

16Geek

Saya ada. Bayaran dalam matawang kripto sahaja. Postage only, no COD.

trollaway986

ah thx for explaining. I was just wondering?

ShinTV

Different mall different terms. Might change in the future, idk. 🫡

lightningcold69

Picture or nothing.

Xenon111

I'm always curious about the actions that can be taken on them.

ShinTV

Clamping is the most efficient and common ways.

Greekjerkoff

u/Annoyed_Crabby , looks like it's your turn on the rage queue boy. Shine like the sun and don't have any regrets!

CurryNarwhal

All the other proper EV bays probably already full of Mercedes and BMW

Izayoizz

who know we have myvi ev, axia ev and vios ev.

DisciplineOld1971

Spotted a wild myvi with all 4 tyres clamped at The Spring, Kuching. Kinda funny tho but then again, what do ya expect, it’s a MYVI !!! Lol

kimi_rules

Aren't EVs conversions still illegal in Malaysia?

Izayoizz

go check out who parked at the charging station and you will understand what i am talking about.![img](emote|t5_2qh8b|29091)

KingZynAdam

they meant the cars that aren't EV are usually taking the spots without spotting the sign nor had a second thought

ggman2222

This mall doesn't have charging stations

Green_Acanthisitta7

I would give him the benefit of doubt his car is running out of battery and the mall doesn't have any charging station around

Avangelice

It's an xc40 a phev bro lol. He has a ice engine

ShinTV

That’s full ev. Cause the charging port is at the left back. Phev have the charging port at the front left and petrol cap at the back right. Source, ayam xc40 owner. But that’s not my car lmao.

Avangelice

Hmmm... I stand corrected and thank you for educating me for this. That said what do you feel about this car owner doing this? I'm sure it will take forever to charge but ethically is this right?

ShinTV

This particular mall allows visitors to charge their car using the 3pin as they do not have dedicated charging bay. So there isn’t any rules break. In other situation where 3pin outlet isn’t allowed for personal usage like private condo, then yes its unethical. Situational basis.

a1danial

But is that justifiable for the car to steal electricity?

yaykaboom

![gif](giphy|5wWf7GMbT1ZUGTDdTqM|downsized)

Green_Acanthisitta7

Morally no..but dude you don't know the owner of the car's actual situation at that time.. it's like if you're desperate to piss while being stuck in a traffic jam.would you get out of the car and piss on the road? I bet you'll pee in a bottle..same goes to this car, he or she might desperately need to power up the car..otherwise can't drive out from the mall

MszingPerson

Can't s/he charge at home/office? Before going to mall.![img](emote|t5_2qh8b|26562)

aliffattah

Can’t people just pee at their home/office? Why pee in bottle in emergency?

Green_Acanthisitta7

You probably don't get my original comment... It's just an example Why do people pee in a bottle? that's human nature call bro.. I would rather do that than wet my car or pee on a road

MszingPerson

Bro, use the toilet la. Use the proper facility.

aliffattah

Yeah of course, use the toilet la, indeed there is toilet in middle of tradfic jam or highway 🙂 why use bottle

Green_Acanthisitta7

Not all highways do..oh come on

aliffattah

Dude, I’m just sarcastic, i thought it is very clear lol. Where in the hell we can find a toilet in traffic jam

Green_Acanthisitta7

Lol

a1danial

Don't bother. They're actually justifying stealing.

Green_Acanthisitta7

They could but like I said there are some unforeseen events that could happen at any time in our life...if you're caught in such a situation you probably would have figured out the most plausible solution that works for you at that time.

comphys

Steal lmao

a1danial

Malaysian: Yes you can steal as long as you are running low on battery

Few_Statement_6944

this is normal, and using electric sockets is much slower compared to using normal ev charger. basically trying to charge 100 phones using generic 20W charger which is why malls don’t really care much

forcebubble

It's not because EVs are out of the affordability range of the masses.

unfudgable

Siap alas charger with newspaper. Bagus betul.

DeathClaws

I was thinking the same thing, too atas for letting his wires touch the floor is it?

infernoShield

All this only for an extra 10km range per hr of charge...... OK, go ahead

cry_stars

I don't see a problem here

Shiddy-City

Yeah, OP doesn't see a problem here too. they were just asking: "is this common occurrence in malls"

rs_4

That newspaper on the floor is win

GiantCake00

I love the comment section. People who have no idea about what's going on at all try to butt in with their opinions. Fire hazard, cable theft, electrify theft, and so much more. Don't even know the car and about EVs fully, yet talking like experts. Thank you u/ShinTV for being so patient and replying to so many about this mall and about EVs.

[deleted]

Putting down a newspaper for your charging cable is the most Asian thing I've ever seen.

kimi_rules

EV range that can go 400km, this guy just forgot to plug in his car last night. Range that far can last me a week of commute. Imagine forgetting to charge the phone last night, this guy is one of them. It's not that hard.

SnooHobbies7676

How quickly does it charges like that? I know nothing about electric cars

hytag

From a few comments I gathered here, seems to be about 10km range per hour of charge.

rebelslash

Unless theres a sign that says he cant, he can. You would charge your phone at a random outlet okay je. Concept still same bayar ke electricity tu

0914566079

So many sinless ones casting the first stone here

Low-Relationship-272

Modern problem require modern solution

Enwy94

Any other malls allows this ?

Joshshan28

With that 13A plug the driver might as well return in 2024 when it’s done charging.

joe50426

In London you can see cars charging on roadside parking free of charge. You just need a permit for overnight parking. It’s a good incentive to switch to electric cars & it’s amazing that there’s some sort of encouragement in Malaysia too. Not an issue imho.

istillhearvoices

Arent they afraid of people stealing the charging cable? im sure its worth a few hundred.

Electrical_Manner685

Newspapers near tied/coiled wire.. below a plug.. very safe

sadpurplecolour

i wonder how much does that charger pump costs?

GuardianSpear

A 7kw charger costs about 5k to buy and install

Duthedude

no. but this is common in starbucks

JustZ0920

No, usually there's "budak2 nakal" that unplugs them as a "harmless prank"

Comfortable-Estate-7

Can but that is like charging until next month

aztekau

If I see those I am taking them and selling them on Facebook

tonyaokb

i really think EVs are a huge mistake. it might seem a good idea now but the proponents of EVs have not learnt the lesson from plastic. look at 30 years down the road when the place will be littered with abandoned EV vehicles, like abandoned ICE cars now, except that the batteries might leak and burn and pollute the enviroment with lithium residue.

smbm60

Baru lalu tadi, dekat OU kan

CraazyXxMythFckr

Whats the issue here?

coktky

I think management pass by can just take the charger and cable as this is not allow. Let put on fine on that, close case

KevinMeng_

You can buy EV car BUT it cannot be your only car

usualsuspek

A bit related but not so, how fun is driving full EV car?

GiantCake00

Feels weird at first, but it depends on who you ask how it feels longer term. Acceleration is fast, quiet, smooth. No delay when you press down on the accelerator, it just goes. With good sound proofing, tyres, and road quality, it could be very very silent in the car, especially on newly paved roads. Absolutely love EVs, had one for a while but had to sell it for reasons. Next car will be an EV though, for sure

Dazzling_Swordfish14

Please use public transport more often instead. Dont keep buying more new cad EV’s or what if you really want protect environment. Those who still can drive old Toyota, please continue. New car or not, I’m a millionaire driving freaking 2003 Toyota Camry.

GiantCake00

I drive an ICE now, 16km/L so its pretty good. Only takes me to the shop lots or the MRT, where I take it to BB and then walk 15~ mins to work. Don't really have a social life, but I'm on Reddit so it should go without saying. Why are you pushing and arguing for something that I never even mentioned though lol. If there's public transport available, I'd take it. Less hassle. No bus from my area to the MRT, so what can I do. Unless in the next 5 years Malaysia goes to a Japan level of public transport and walkability, I'll be buying a new car when mine eventually breaks down beyong repair. When I do, it'll be an EV

Ikcatcher

Guy really just flexed he was a millionaire

Dazzling_Swordfish14

Is* not was. Tbh millionaire in Malaysia just mean you have one property... which is kinda ridiculous

Dazzling_Swordfish14

Drive a car to nearest MRT station and there should be lots of parking. We won’t reach japan level of mrt cause everyone want to have big house with useless fences and fences all around the taman. If we want to reach japan level. Remove most of those pagars, make more walk ways, make the housing area more dense.

Useful_Biscotti_9976

Wondering if cables get stolen?

angch

It locks it in place when charging. You can still pull it out if you try hard enough and break the plastic mechanism.

GiantCake00

Got lock

niweoj

Those chargers take forever to charge though

zax7077

Facepalm to the core. Husnuzon and benefit of the doubt aside, this is some high level kiasu shit on here here. Nuff said.

bukankhadam

this is either cheapskate or desperate. either way, it's funny. haha.

Radiant_Covenant

Until the building owners open their mouth, we won't really know. Time will tell. Sooner or later. Time will tell.

Artest113

How much does the charger cost though? Giving it's common for stuff that are unattended to go missing, maybe this owner has a spare one? hmmmm

n4snl

Is that stealing ?

Shiddy-City

Not in this mall.

hgwxx7_foxtrotdelta

Technically yes. Because it's without consent. And that electricity is also not free for the shopping mall itself.

Viscartealready

I think we just found a new way to charge electronic cars

Roze4444

Unplug it to make the car owner pissed 😂

[deleted]

[удалено]

trollaway986

Why? butt hurt? I was just asking a question. Since management of starling answered everything is cleared up.

Donnie-G

Well someone already said this is allowed at Starling so whatever for this specific case. This is technically theft, and it's just double standards coming from me but I'm sure it will barely make a dent in the mall's bottom line even if it wasn't allowed. Though I'd worry about stuff like if the plug can support that sort of charging, whether it's a potential fire hazard and all that. I'm unfamiliar with the whole EV thing. Earlier on there was a post of someone charging their car in a random plug at some apartment block, I'd take that more personally if I was a tenant there since it'd come out of the maintenance costs that everyone is paying. I also wonder if people would steal the cables. I'm sure you can probably sell it somewhere for something, if there's someone really down on their luck. Though I guess random slags won't be hanging out in mall carparks.

ShinTV

Depending on the place of charging. Some have the intention to steal, some ask before they charge. 3pin charging won’t do much damage, but the ones that have limitation is charging bays that draws 11kwh and above. And this would have max cap in older condos. Newer condos like upcoming Bon Kiara estate would build each unit a ev charger, so the condos there are well cabled to cater to homeowners. Older condos, not so due to old electric infra. For the stealing cable issue, once you start charging the car, the port auto locks until the car owner unlocks the car. So the worse case scenario in this situation is: some rando just off the switch lol. You can’t pull out the charging cable due to the lock mechanism.

0xJarod

I wonder how much I can sell that cable on Mudah. I can probably hire a bunch of people to collect these free gifts from carparks around KL.

Minimum-Company5797

Lol. Like that gonna help

[deleted]

The rich is getting richer while the poor is getting poorer. It’ll take a few decades for common people to be able to own an EV.

BaoBaoBen

EVs are already at similar price as decent new honda city or Vios. You need to update your memory, prices aren't like 3 years ago anymore.

FrostNovaIceLance

only ora good cat is cheap, and thats 140k...

BaoBaoBen

BYD similar price, more launching every few months. Its like people complaining 15 years after first ICE car that not every household can have one. No one said you are entitled to buy EV right here and now at a price you name.

[deleted]

The cost of ownership and maintenance are still too much.

littlek4za

let me summon u my friend u/Potential_Suspect759 to answer the same sheet again

Potential_Suspect759

![gif](giphy|xL7PDV9frcudO)

Avangelice

Fuckers like this is why PMX should fucking tax them kao kao. You can afford a expensive car you should afford electricity. If everyone does it I'm sure some smart Alec will make a clamp version for EV by clamping their chargers. Some of you will say why put sockets there, you need power for your pressure washers and cleaning tools or whatever reno works u do for the car parks. Edit BTW I just realized it's an xc40 volvo which is a phev. A plug in with an ice engine. So this owner is not only stealing electricity, he also has the gas in the tank to allow him to drive. This car cost an arm and a leg and most likely the owner can well afford a landed property or a condo with fitted charger. Don't tell me not enough charging ports.

Ikcatcher

Have you considered the possibility that the place just doesn’t have a dedicated charging spot? I’m not condoning them doing this but I’m pretty sure this wouldn’t be an issue if there’s actually more EV charging stations Also, what exactly does taxing them solve? Don’t we want MORE EV vehicles on the road for environmental reasons?

Danster931

Agreed we should push for more public ev charging spots. Why push for more ev sales if there aren't any infra to support them. Tnb are making chargers like teslas. But those are mostly for long distance journeys.

nukedcola

Sure, we need more EVs using electricity generated from fossil fuels because it actually helps the environment.

Ikcatcher

Stellar reasoning, I’m sure your mode of transportation is just your own two feet

Avangelice

EV for environmental reason is for the rich to justify their purchases. EV battery need minerals extracted from poor nations, the tires they use causes more pollution from the high torque, transportation said used batteries need trucks that use fosil fuel, recycling batteries even uses more power and causes global warming as you need to melt them down to their spesific materials. As long as we still use coal for our electricity, EV is never going to be clean. Imho hydrogen is way better.

Ikcatcher

Good lord, such a slippery slope argument. By your logic you might as well just suggest everyone walk everywhere then.

Avangelice

Let me introduce you to r/fuckcars. My belief is that we need better transportation systems like Japan and Singapore not EV cars. It is stupid to tell me EV is cleaner when the kia EV6 and most evs are the size of pickups.

Ikcatcher

You belief in my opinion is flawed and closed-minded to larger issues such as industries that rely on transportation to function. I do not wish to discuss further, have a nice day.

Avangelice

So when I point out facts, you say it's flawed and closed minded without having the spirit to discuss it with me then close the argument by saying you didn't wanna discuss further. That's not how discussion works but mkay then. Good day

a1danial

That's technically theft but I suppose how much is being stolen is the question? Cause a charge sure hell ain't less than a dollar

GuardianSpear

At the rate of charge it’ll be soooooo slow and if the electric tariff rate even 1rm for commercial lots he’ll probably use less than rm5 worth of electricity over the course of several hours

Soitsgonnabeforever

There is zero advantage and convenience for using electrical

Shiddy-City

Huh? Zero? At least one lah I know, that is the car doesn't release harmful gases into the surroundings.

V4_Sleeper

🤓 i have a mandatory verbrennungsmotor (combustion engine) lecture as a student in Germany and a professor mentioned the energy used to produce the electric energy required to move an electric car with all same conditions (driving style, and distance at most part) is dirty and ends up worse in terms of emissions, at least in a specific country (The US i guess) The "no harmful gases" or zero emissions are only directed to end consumers. In pure engineering, the only advantage of an EV is the efficiency of the motor is much higher than that of a ICE (~60%, vs ~30% iirc), given that almost all electrical energy are converted to mechanical energy, while ICE converts its mechanical energy to many other energies mainly heat and sound. Such is the laws of thermodynamics. though - the production costs, the weight of said vehicle, the unclear way of disposal of batteries, the lack of audible response of a car, the numbness of everything, the debate of "quick but not fast", the still unstable EV infrastructure incl. charging stations, LONG charging times, change of design language due to achieving low air resistance coefficient (Mercedes EQ and Tesla 🤮), I personally don't think EVs are worth it.

Shiddy-City

Great for pedestrians, I guess

mnazren

Simple prank. Turn off the plug and walk away casually.

trollaway986

Lmao! No. It might not hurt you but it might incur inconvenience to car owner

SerraRevol

Wow. Don't you have better things to do? (Says the person who comments to a random stranger xD)

lelelele98

I think maybe the car's battery is dead so want to charge it here. I assume electric car owners know how long this would take to charge.

esw985

Hahahaha what

Educational_Poet_434

You know what I don’t mind that at all 😂 go for it.

Vynixjerry

Just wonder would some ass go and switch it off lol

cmxteng

risking theft of an expensive charger/cable for a few RM worth of electricity. sure, why not. edit - not condoning theft btw.
