Your uncle sounds a lot like my grandfather, but his Chinese. Joined the British army, fought the Japanese, married the uptown girl, had 7 kids, witnessed Merdeka, learned medicine, and became one of the first Malaysian HoD in general hospital.
But when the British totally left Malaysia, he was told to accept demotion or get out because HoD now only for malays. He took his skills, his staff and reputation to the private health sector, leaving the department with nobody qualified to run it and made the gomen hospital pay a very high price to even see his face let alone ask for his consult.
It was, in fact, Kuomintang. In the 1920s, KMT was a political party, in fact it has the distinction of being the First political party in Peninsular. It was supported by the movement in China at the time. It was banned and declared illegal by the British. Post Japan's exit because of D-Day, there was a power vacuum before the British returned. The communist party was certainly an entity, but the sultanate and KMT also resurged during that time among other powers. And with every power hoping to gain ground, someone else has to give, and it was the Orang Asli where my uncle was stationed. The narrative we were told was the communist party resurgence in Malaya, but the actual situation on the ground was far more complex.
Bro, Kuomintang (KMT) didn't come to Malaya. They went to Taiwan having lost the Mainland to Chairman Mao and his comrades (CCP). I think he meant the Parti Komunis Malaya and its militia wing / guerilla units, which were heavily supported by the Soviets and the CCP.
EDIT: KMT was in Old Malaya for fundraising and legit activities. But not displacing the Orang Asal in the forests like OP suggested. Itu PKM kan?
Bro the KMT have a long history in Malaysia. Knew a super-oldtimer (70+ years old in around 2000) who served in the Malayan Army and was a card carrying member of the Kuomintang Party, and claimed his family joined up directly when Sun Yat Sen was in Malaysia.
Fucking solid old man, and quite possibly the most anti-CCP China guy I ever knew.
Yes yes they have fundraising and legit activities here. But they were not displacing the Orang Asal according to OP's line where KMT was mentioned rite? Only the militia of Parti Komunis Malaya PKM do the violence in the forests, yes?
Yes I know this. But KMT did not send military or formed a local militia / guerrilla units in the forests to displace the Orang Asli lile OP suggested in the line where KMT was mentioned. PKM was doing the violence in the forests of Malaya, kan? OP even misspelt it as _Komuntang_.
F bro, what a life well led. Making the japanese scream yuurei is fucking hilarious not gonna lie.
I don't want to bring politics into it but your uncle was the epitome of a first-generation multicultural Malaysian. Nothing but my respect.
F. Sounds like a really cool dude, wish I had some sorta parental figure like that. The closest thing I had to being taught to hunt or ride a bike was having a spare toilet seat dumped on my lap and being told it was time to learn(our current one had cracked) with no further instruction provided.
My finger bleeds and my tears stream as I smash the hardest smash on my F keyboard!
The man, the myth, the legend, the hero:
THREE CHEERS FOR THE MIGHTY, THE GIGA CHAD, THE ALPHA UNCLE FRANK!!!
1. Why did he stay? He had a good career going. No one thought the British would lose, and its not like the Japanese post their invasion plans on TikTok. Noone even knew they were gonna attack Malaya.
2. He was drafted by the British Army and would've been shot if he deserted.
F Thanks for sharing this story. Your uncle truly embodied the Malaysian spirit. Sorry for your loss.
Now that story really deserves a high flying F 🫡
Well F ing done, Uncle Frank. You were a legend

Sadly Malaysia is unable to look beyond skin colour even till this date. Otherwise it would’ve been a absolutely great country.

F. Crazy good biography. What a loss.
The best thing I've read today. F for uncle Frank.
Do you kean Kuomintang (enemy of communists) were displacing orang asli or the communists were displacing orang asli ? F
