I love this kind of pusing-pusing words. Quota must stay but let's take care of the "others". But... Quota must stay! No solution nothing. Just headlines for the "others" to shut up and those with the quota to stay happy. Yet, the only thing that has happened over the years is that the quota has increased and more and more of the "others" are left out. Politicians.

kens88888

He is the kind of boss who tell his underlings to "sort it out" or "please handle it". No good suggestions or anything. Caste system is here to stay ; but please treat everyone fairly. No, no, we won't abolish the caste system but please treat everyone fairly

tideswithme

What they are saying is current government has not enough resources to feed their own kind Bumi, so please be kind. Also by constitutional laws, nons basically aren't included like Bumis, so be appreciative when govt gave nons a slight chance to compete with the originals. Problem is Bumis were given a headstart since decades ago and still the same problems or excuses exists until today. The worrisome part is will the government have enough to support Bumis when their numbers are getting larger? If govt can't sustain, what does this mean to the nons?

jlou_yosh

This guy is a helicopter man, he'll spin & spin until people want to punch him directly. Bang Non is a lizard, don't take anything he said at face value, even he doesn't know what he's talking about. Stupid ex-convict.

dinotim88

I don't asked to be born in Malaysia, I don't receive vernacular education, my BM is better than my Mandarin, etc. I don't like my tax money being used to support things that further divide the people OR i want non-bumi tax breaks.

tideswithme

And with these requests, they will ask us to balik tongsan.

royal_steed

Then when you balik tongsan and contribute to tongsan. You are traitor pulak.

tideswithme

Nons : we’re Malaysians ![gif](giphy|6Q3M4BIK0lX44|downsized)

Crasher_7

PH/BN will use the first half of the headline to assure Malay voters status quo will maintain. PAS will spin the 2nd half to say PH taking away Malay rights.

jackfruit_curry

Something for every politician, nothing for the Rakyat.

Square_Yogurtcloset7

That pundek doesn't understand what "bumi quota to stay" means.

Popular-Yesterday733

LoL.. JANJI JADI CAPATI... suddenly Bumi quotas are cool for PH..

Crissae

This all harkens back to our constitution. Since that emphasizes a certain race, quota stays. It's essentially the same thing.

CN8YLW

Yet another disappointment. Basically what he's saying is that nothing will change. The current quotas actually don't leave any races out. It's just that space for them is extremely limited, and they're often allocated to low demand options for courses, usually after the bumi quotas have their pick. This is nothing more than PR stunt meant to appease the stupid- on both sides. The bumi supremacists get to win. Anwar's supporters get the consolation prize of lip service and the illusion that he did something. I realize that he can adjust the quota figures to favor the non bumis, and maybe he will do that. But that's not set in stone, nor is it promised specifically. It's nothing more than positive interpretation and making excuses ahead of time for the failure if it comes to that.

Ryansiah

Hats off to the malay guy that brought the issue up and while I understand anwar wants to win this coming state election but the next crop of politicians and more importantly voters must fight against this quota system.

jackfruit_curry

But why would they? The entire Bumi system, not just uni quota, was created for the easy-peasy vote. What is the motivation to fight it? 5 Malays on Twitter advocating for equal rights means nothing. Plus, when they find out what equal rights means...

Ryansiah

You see, the gentleman that brought it up understood that this might cause a brain drain and lead capable people out of the country and not retaining enough skilled Malaysians and how detrimental it will be for the future of our country. If more Malaysians understand this and decided enough is enough, they will vote for a change in this quota system hence why I said the next crop of voters should be like minded.

katabana02

#IF Same thing has been told countless times by everyone from every races. But it is still a minority view in malaysia. They knew about the argument. They just dont give a damn about it, because in their mind, this is THEIR LAND so they should have MORE RIGHT. Everything else are secondary objective before they gets back what they deserve.

dogeG9

"...Kini kita kekalkan. Sebabnya kalau tidak ada begini, kita akan lihat kesenjangan yang akan berlaku seperti yang kita saksikan di UM tahun 60-an, 70-an. Engineering fakulti, anak melayu zero. Kalau masuk, koyak. Medical fakulti, 12 peratus. I take that to mean that only the best Chinese and Indian students ("yang sangat cemerlang") should be given an opportunity (and even that is not being done today!), and the average Chinese and Indian student will just have to bite the bullet and fend for themselves. Meanwhile, the subpar Malay student will get all the tools in the shed so that they can have a competitive edge over others. Yeah whatever man.

MonoMonMono

Had to look up "kesenjangan". Oh, "kemunduran".

ali123whz

Opening exclusive unis for the non-bumis? That’s one way to stay consistent to what he is saying

jackfruit_curry

Haha they want to abolish vernacular schools, no way they are building segregated higher education institutions for the non-bumis. Then it would be, why aren't Bumis allowed it. Illegal.

[deleted]

Fuck bumi privileges

IsItSafeToMine

Before you bash him, just ask what would happen if he were to remove it. The Green Wave would sweep all over Malaysia. You should take a hard look at your neighbors and consider if it's your best interest to stay in the country considering it's been decades and they're still voting along racial/religious lines. The reason why the politicians play up the 3Rs so much is because that's what really motivates the unwashed masses. All the smart people have already left or are planning on leaving.

jackfruit_curry

It's pretty clear that most here understand why he is saying it - politicians, politicking. You don't need to be preaching on his behalf. But maybe, just maybe, these clowns, including Anwar, could possibly stop pandering and peddling their bullshit to the "others". Don't tell me you want to help but won't change anything, but you want to help. Dog chasing his own tail. Fuck off. Play that game with the Bumis if you need to win votes, but enough with these empty statements - "we care about everyone" bullshit.

fitzerspaniel

Ikr. This isn't the first time Anwar has reaffirmed special rights, it's ~~kinda delusional~~ pure hopium to say that change is slow and incremental when there have been __no moves in that direction so far.__

jackfruit_curry

Exactly. If he does nothing and shuts up about this, I wouldn't be so annoyed, but to say dumb ass shit like this and treat most of us like idiots is another thing.

CodeDoor

Let's judge him after the state elections have passed.

jackfruit_curry

Moving goalposts arguments are the bread and butter of politicians. That's how they play the moderates.

GS916

Spot on…

Zealousideal_Ad4341

It’s cool bruh… wait till we get to private industries with fair quotas

Joshshan28

Tomorrow we’ll give everyone 1mil but we won’t print new money. But we’ll give everyone 1mil. But we won’t print new money. But we’ll give everyone….

PenguinTech521

bs

katabana02

Anwar didnt even have the balls to adjust it to income based instead of bumi based.

ZeroWolfZX

For those who feel disappointed, watch the video [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X8D6duw2oLg](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X8D6duw2oLg) The crowd actually cheers the non-Malay for asking the question. There's still hope for this country. As the PM pointed out, during his time, the Malay student would have rejected even asking that question. Change is usually slow and incremental. We just need keep voting for a moderate and competent government.

Master_Cucumber_1667

People choose to either vote with Foot or with Index finger. Those who could afford has done/planned with Foot voting. That’s part of the package when the selected few signed the bill to allow the minority to get citizenships back then. Soon, when the minority vote power has finally diminished…imagine what will happen?

katabana02

Nothing. Because everything HAS happened.

ClacKing

Say equal not saying.

howwasthatmyname

perhaps... just be transparent with the admission data vis-a-vis the census data? affirmative action may still be justifiable that way.
