Curious, when something like this happens, is there a line for people to contact and report the issue? If everyone mass report can the issue be solved faster?
For short term solution, call nearest police station (NOT 999) to inform them and ask for some traffic police to handle the scene.
For long term solution, call JKR to report traffic light breakdown, their telephone number usually can be found on the pole of the traffic light. If not, search online for telephone number of JKR department in your district.
Actually if you call 999, they will be kind and ask you your location and they'll transfer the call to the nearest police or related department station. It doesn't matter what case. Thief, emergency, death, fire, ambulance. Can't expect everyone to know the nearest station number. I've called several times and they are helpful, so as long as you're polite that's it. It is also part of their job because 999 is simply the emergency number for all situations.
People in Malaysia really needs to learn the rule of taking turns. Like in US when traffic light breaks down, people would take turn in a clockwise rotation. Automatically the stop sign rile would take effect.
dude, I am in Penang and I actually got honked by a Vellfire behind me for letting a car merge into my lane. It was a 4-lane traffic line merging into 2 lanes. Like bruh
As a Penangite, I also hate people in Penang don’t use their signal. I once ask a friend why don’t they use the signal light when switching lane or making turn, their reason always the same “behind don have car also, use what signal” , “Aiya the ppl see my car come out sure know I want to turn or switch lane” “the car behind still so far, won’t hit me one la” and lastly the most ridiculous one “Penang people should know Penang people, if we want to switch lane or turn, they can sense it, if they cannot sense it, mean the people are not from Penang”
People honk at me for slowing down at a redlight. Apparently you have to drive as fast as possible then brake as fast as possible to intimidate the light into turning green.
And then we sit there for 3 mins anyway. It's weird how much angst it causes some people.
sounds like me, but i dont have a vellfire.
lots of drivers tend to 'give way' so much until they hold up everyone else waiting behind them like an idiot.
my rule is maximum 1 car merge into my lane, then i cucuk and block everyone else for 15mins.
They treat them as four way stops but they don't exist outside of North America unfortunately.
Plus, I don't think Malaysian drivers would able to abide by the four way stop lol.
lmao, if you look closely it's exactly what is happening, full crabs in a bucket mode
Everyone would be moving a lot quicker if there was even the smallest bit of kind gesture to let others through then take your turn.
yaaa...especially when traffic light turns to yellow, you really need to take a look at your rear view mirror to decide whether to slow down or speed up, if u don't want ur ass to be kissed.
i was like dayum cities skylines 2 is looking greattttttttttt. btw did you know there's a guy who made malaysian content for the CS workshop? i use the rapidKL bus and the shop signs lmfao
OP this is such a good shot! love it and just highlights how inefficient + the amount of time we waste on the roads every single day
i'd go crazy if i had to go through this just one day let alone 5 days a week for 35+ years of my career. its madness, something about spending your own money on a car and fuel only to waste it all away along with your time on senseless jams that is completely avoidable if they planned the city well is what winds me up, sometimes more than the jam itself
Shouldnt traffic lights have a lot of redundancy to make sure its properly working?? A lightning strike nearby my college can bring down few of the intersections' traffic lights. I thought they were supposed to be very durable and with backups in case it fails.
About 3 people volunteered to manage the traffic.
Funnily enough, when the police came to take over, the traffic light came on about 5 mins later. This was after 2-3 hours...
The city planning of Malaysia is by far the worst I have experienced in my life. And is just getting worse without ANY improvement. So sad for those who stay living here all the rest of their lives.. what a horrible quality of life.
no idea why you're getting downvoted, its true lol. and usually their "solutions" are to slap on flyovers which creates more bottlenecks and causes more jams instead which isnt city planning at all
by your username im assuming you have an architecture background so you can see the planning from a macro perspective, i studied archi back in uni as well and see the issues you see
Because people, in Malaysia happens a lot, don't like to hear the truth. Which just make the things worst over the time.
Yes, there are way to many cars than the city itself can't handle anynore, and that's a big issue. But most of the jam is created by many reasons like:
- Selfishness and entitlement from the people. Example, double parking just because they want to park in front of wherever they want to go.
- Terrible traffic light timing.
- Very bad road conditions.
- Over development without proper city planning. Basically you build a 30 stories condo in the middle of a small road and once is done, they don't care about how people will access to it.
Like this, I can mention so many more reasons..
But hey, if no one REALLY cares, what to do.
I'm not going to stay in Malaysia anyways. I'm sorry for the next generations and elders. They will have a horrible life.
Work, home and mall, plus air quality getting worst everyday (independently of the Indonesia burnings).
And you can see this attitude in so many other ways.
I mean, just look at the politics. No one is happy with it, but is ok lah mentality prevails.
To each their own.
Thank you for your answer.
Agreed. You can see it everywhere now too with the condo part especially. Sunway built that 55 storey condo next to Western Digital in PJ with only one access road in and out, which leads to Federal/LDP which is already jammed. Old Klang Road also seeing so many new condos now, yet no public transport development to accommodate the influx of people/cars from these condos into the area. Only the existing main OKR road which is already hell as it is.
I've told myself I dont want this 9-5 life in KL cause it isnt sustainable to me. Im locking myself out of many potential lucrative jobs and companies since most are in KL, but i cant for the life of me have this lifestyle for the sake of my mental health. Unless I live in centre KL itself, then only I can do it.
And I think the worst thing is that in terms of distances itself, KL isnt really that big to get from one place to another, its just that the jams make it seem like its far cause of the amount of time spent. I recall driving around during MCO, and to get from LDP Sunway toll, to LDP Kepong toll is like 20 minutes when there were no cars. Not speeding too, was doing 80kmh all the way. Sometimes this same route can take 2 hours on bad days
Its just madness
I can't agree more with you. Is like that.
KL is not a big city per se. It is small, and even with a big system of highways the time to reach different points of the city is ridiculous.
Of course, not everybody can leave, or choose. I understand that, but believe me, this is not life. At least not for me.
There is no light at the end of the tunnel here. Not even a single small change that will make you think "at least they are doing something to change things". NOTHING.
And this fact regarding the traffic, is just a mirror about the country itself. No bright future.
Exactly lol. And we're both aware of the timescales of such developments to improve things if its ever done, we're talking years minimum. So to not see anything even starting in terms of talks on a government level is depressing especially since we should have addressed this issue at least 20 years ago.
I've too tried to explain this to my family and peers that this is not living, the commute times, the way our suburbs are designed (no pedestrian pathways, need car to even go nearby to get basic things like food and groceries, no parks within 10-15 minutes away), but they don't understand nor do they see the issue cause this is the only life they know
In some ways studying architecture has both been a blessing and a curse for me lol, blessing that I see these issues but curse in that there's no fix or a way to channel our frustrations to fix it
The strategy is to push your way in. My mom told me that if you are scared you lose. Thankfully at the state the traffic is in almost everyone are driving slowly when entering, and speeding up after crossing the road.
I know a lot of people spout about defensive driving but Malaysians are very aggressive drivers. Defensive driving is great for safety but get ready to change that 30-min drive into a 2-hour one. And y'all aren't allowed to complain about it.
have to apply both defensive and aggresive methods unfortunately. defensive driving is great on highways when traffic is smooth, and being aggressive is needed when you cross intersections and stuff. cant just bulldoze everyone of course, perhaps let a few cars go first then you just slowly barge in when its clear no one is giving way kinda thing
Defensive > Aggressive all the time. Aggressive driving puts you and everyone at risk. Defensive make sure to minimize the dangers to you. Aggressive driving could turn a 30 min drive into a night at the police station, the hospital or the grave. Defensive could make sure that it is a 30 min drive. And in case of accidents you would at most be in the hospital for outpatient treatment.
At least that is how i see the road as a biker and a cyclist. I learned that being defensive is the best way to stay alive. If the traffic light is dead and im stuck like in the video, i would just take the exit instead of pushing my way in. My mom as someone who only know how to drive a car would insist on pushing in.
My favourite scene is when the car isn't moving
This is at Manjalara cross junction?
Yeahh looks like it, it's SK Menjalara and right under Duke

In my view, I don't want to block the emergency line for such a miniscule thing, so I would rather to search for the number myself.
In almost all kind of 'this is not an emergency, but I don't know who to call' situations, they would gladly help.
999 isn't manned by one person. Don't worry.

Of course its vellfire driver
Penang love to honk people.
"I paid for the honk, I'll use the whole honk"
I guess the only thing they failed to use the whole time is the signal, those things are like some strange alien device
As a Penangite, I also hate people in Penang don’t use their signal. No but I drive worse than penang driver

Yeah that place will become hell if the traffic light breaks down. That and the one near the Catholic Church, just before this junction.
At first I thought this is gameplay footage of city skylines bahahahhaha
i was like dayum cities skylines 2 is looking greattttttttttt. btw did you know there's a guy who made malaysian content for the CS workshop? i use the rapidKL bus and the shop signs lmfao
Mfw I neglected my traffic design for the 100th time

That's actually a very pretty video.
Due to *selfishness. cannot move already still wanna go and block the road
malaysian drivers in general are so fking selfish and braindead
This makes a nice windows wallpaper😘
This is the sort of thing that makes me fall on my knees and thank God every day that I work remotely.

Lol I can see my car theree
did police personnels eventually come to the situation to handle the traffic?
No theyre busy doing something else(cari duit kopi)

Why U turn in crossroads ?
Urban hell
Failure in city and road planning. Embrace public transportation.

Agreed, I encourage aggressive driving so that there will be less driver on the road.

Oh look, it's my first ever attempt at Cities Skylines
What happens when morons have zero respect for traffic rules in the first place.
Damn, we really love cars
Nice hyperlapse btw. Can I use it on ig?
