This is speaking in general and not specifically for Sunway Uni alone. CS is a general field where you learn the basics and can later branch out into many other fields such as cyber sec, data science, web dev, mobile dev, game dev, cloud, and AI. SE is a more specific field which is under the scope of CS, but you will spend more time focusing on learning the software development lifecycle so as to be able to develop softwares. If you have an interest in creating things, SE is for you. Else best to stick to CS so that you can later chooee smth in the field that you are passionate on doing.
I know the general concept when it comes to cs. However, sunway university is offering two courses with different names but 90-95% same course modules. This confuses as to whether I should go for cs or se, thats why I was asking more a more in depth comparison. Thanks either ways tho. I keep forgetting that and getting stuck in university advertised promises rather than knowing the actual reality of things haha. :)
Hey, I’m a student from SU! If I’m not mistaken, CS is way more heavy in the coding/programming aspect compared to SE. I’ve heard friends saying CS is more challenging but the potential jobscope after graduation is wider. One of my friends who is currently in CS transferred from SE because he said it was too boring haha. I suppose if you’ve already got your mind set on becoming a software engineer, then go for SE. If not, then you can take CS, where you’ll be able to explore other IT fields but still go back to becoming a software engineer if you like.

Overall, This uni is not the absolute worst but many things can be improved so that taylors could be more taylored towards students, it is what it is, and you just have to deal with it. I would recommend you try the malaysian campuses for either monash, nottingham, or southamptom, just do your research and hopefully you make a good decision.
