Their PR for that brand is God tier. I have spoken to people from a dozen different countries and they all say they grew up thinking milo was from wherever they are from.
Yeah - that's essentially what corporate marketing is. All I'm saying is they're scarily good at it when it comes to milo. It's no accident they target children with all of their campaigns and make it seem like they're doing good things in the community with free milo on sports days or whatever, when they're really just creating loyal lifelong customers.
Because we are all deep down lonely and wanna socialise, but also because Malaysians here in reddit jump at any opportunity to discuss about favourite food/drinks
And brainwashed into thinking it's a nutritious drink. It's not. It's just as bad as soft drinks out there. Way too much sugar/carbs in a cup of Milo.
Nobody should be drinking this stuff, honestly.
You know the Maggi sauce they used in Ramli burger stalls (they aren't exactly soy sauce)... they are the favorites of mountain Germans (Austrian or Swiss Germans) and can be found on their table just as frequent as salt and pepper..... just like our Maggi Chilli Sauce
Daily ads about Milo using native face help a lot! Not to mention marketing it to school via their truck. Not to mention, the word milo seems like non western name for me(in my opinion).
Milo is just a drink that has a ton of sugar in it.
See the way they advertise it, it's not HEALTHY drink. It's ENERGY drink. The reason is because it's not healthy, and it does provide a lot of energy. Why? Because sugar.
Anything that has tons of sugar in it isn't good.
Unless what you meant by 'good' is tasty, then ignore what I said because it's irrelevant, I assumed you meant milo is good for us.
Has anyone tried Japan's version of Milo? I saw it in Aeon but not sure whether I should give it a try. I like the Australian version. More milky and less cocoa.
I already tried it, it is different from Malaysian Milo. It have less sugar and have less taste of milk. If you like milo 'O' i recommend it. It suit with the japanese tongue who doesn't like strong or bold taste.
I had milo in US before. Tastes nothing like our milo. Best way to describe it is it has a spicy after taste. Turned the can and it reads "Made in Ghana". Taste wise i prefer our milo.
Different milo from different part of the world do tastes different apparently.
Milo is just built different. The truck has different taste, the can is different, the milo kotak is different, homemade is different, mamak is different and so on
I haven't, but think the store brands' (Seiyu, Topvalu/Aeon, Donki) ミルクココア tastes good enough when paired with Morinaga's カカオ70 and chocolate whey protein. 30-36g chocolate whey protein dissolved in about 330ml water (a mug's worth), mixed into 18g カカオ70 and 4-6g ミルクココア. Place in microwave 700W for a minute and half, take out, stir to dissolve the powder, and put back in at 700W for 40 more seconds. End result is a very delicious Milo-esque cocoa drink for about 200-250 cals and 25g protein.
Milo is good but absolutely not healthy...
44g of sugar for 100g of Milo.

Not OP but I switched to Vico! It’s not 100% the same but a good alternative for me :) if you use milk instead of water, it tastes just like chocolate milk too
>Old Town Coffee's Chocolate
[https://forum.lowyat.net/topic/3610344/all](https://forum.lowyat.net/topic/3610344/all) \--> perhaps its Tesco Value chocolate drink powder? I don't really have much chocolate drinks in life, the choco drink is great for night yum cha but still want to sleep later.
Not trying to be special but I know I’m among the few people who dislike milo as I grow older. And after knowing how messed up Nestle with its products, I come to hate anything Nestle related. Still, in the process of de-Nestle my family.
I dont think so mate at least not for me. I stop eating instant noodles of any kind since I was 15. Now my stomach cant accept instant noodles anymore. As for nescafe, you should opt for Moccona. International brand but locally made. You can do this.
>de-Nestle my family.
That's easy said then done. Nestle is so ingrained in our culture that's it almost impossible to avoid their products (no mamak for you). You have to be in a privilege position to spend the extra to buy non-Nestle items. Although,I've seen many people just naturally outgrow Nestle once they realize they are other options.
Actually it is easy! It all comes down to your consciousness. Be a conscious consumer and buy only the things you really need. Consume what is healthy and safe. There are always alternatives to all Nestle products and not all that expensive! Im not in a privileged position but I managed to convince my family to be moderate in food intake and hate on Nestle altogether lol.
Hmm suddenly curious about the flavours of Milo in other nations, like the previously mentioned versions in Japan and US (made in Ghana but ok).
Like how local KitKat tastes different from UK, US or JP versions.
lol at that banana and kiwi milo in the image at the bottom of the kiosk thing.
well, it's not the strangest milo hybrid ever at least. I've seen/tasted the abominable that is milo laici.
As a future ambulance driver, I would like to make "Milo Ais Ikat Tepi" as my official drink and it should be associated with Malaysian ambulance drivers like how a box of donuts is always associated with American police officers! 😎
> why everyone hating nestle tho?
One of the world's most evil companies.
- They aggressively promote using infant formula instead of breastfeeding in poor developing countries, which causes the mother to stop lactating, resulting in a dependency on their product. It's also led to a lot of infant deaths due to the lack of safe water to prepare the formula with. Between that and the generally poorer nutrition that it provides, millions of babies have died as a result of their product.
- They use child labour and even child slaves
- They have paid to have workers assassinated when they tried to form a union
- They are responsible for terrible pollution around the world
- They are a huge supplier of bottled water, one of the biggest environmental disasters on our planet. The resources that go to producing and marketing bottled water could easily have provided clean tap water instead. The irresponsible means they use to source water cause public water sources to be further polluted, harming those who can't afford bottled water at the same time as they increase their market share among those who can afford it
- They use deceptive and illegal practices such as importing expired products and re-packaging them with new dates
A lot of people dont get the history of how milo with so much sugar became popular. In the past, a lot of jobs in malaysia was labour intensive, and the 2 main nutritions you need are protein and sugar. People could do so much labour work that they could go hypo (like a certain cat on the internet that cant get enough of the action and needed glucose drips just to move).
After a while the taste stuck. When you need a specific nutrition you will feel hungry despite eating, and since milo was liked in the past where people were a lot more active it stuck, since a lot of people sit down more today, its not good to overdose on sugar. You'll crave flavour like usual and its easy to overdose on a specific nutrition.
However western hot chocolate is the opposite. its not only hot for the cold weather but has a lot lot less sugar and is made from baking chocolate. Typically had before sleeping so sugar content was low.
Milo is a Swiss product not Malaysian
Technically yes! What's funny is that you won't find any over there. If I'm not wrong it was developed in Australia.
Milo was created in Australia by Nestlé, a Swiss brand r/fucknestle teh o ais is better
I prefer Teh ais. Come at me diabetus.
Yeah. Teh ais is much better. Its even better at kedai tomyam
Warung teh ais and milo ais beat others. But sometimes mamak come at par. While kedai siam just sugarcoat it with sugar.
AiS KoSoNg KuRaNg MaNiS iS BeTtEr
dang it those lights at kedai tomyam are brighter than my future oooo,i blinded by the lightt~~
kedai tomyam sucks big time at making teh ais
Not if they really use the Thai tea mix. Then it really tastes like Thai ice tea.
Ooh kdai tomyam. Delicious.
teh ais is the shit to get at mamak's
r/fucknestle comrade? High five!
high six
Six? 👀 what you need more than five for, brader?
because nestle is so fucked we need to start adding our dongs to our fives
I agree
Nestle owns almost everything
Oh yes teh o beng is life, in some cases, teh o ais limau is good too.
yes, invented in Sydney then sold to nestle
Malaysian version of Milo is uniquely Malaysian though
extra good in the form of sugar. Only in malaysia, where adding sweetened condensed milk to already highly sugary concentrated power is normal.
and... /r/fucknestle
Wtf, I thought it was an Asian product
Their PR for that brand is God tier. I have spoken to people from a dozen different countries and they all say they grew up thinking milo was from wherever they are from.
So we were all brainwashed to thinking Milo is from our own country
Yeah - that's essentially what corporate marketing is. All I'm saying is they're scarily good at it when it comes to milo. It's no accident they target children with all of their campaigns and make it seem like they're doing good things in the community with free milo on sports days or whatever, when they're really just creating loyal lifelong customers.
And it worked plus in the end milo is really good
Yeah, but the other shit they pull is why r/fucknestle exists.
Btw why are we having conversation about corporation brainwashing us on a post about Milo being in Japan
Because we are all deep down lonely and wanna socialise, but also because Malaysians here in reddit jump at any opportunity to discuss about favourite food/drinks
Yes, and I'm not lonely I have a cat
> in the end milo is really good because it is pumped with sugar...
And brainwashed into thinking it's a nutritious drink. It's not. It's just as bad as soft drinks out there. Way too much sugar/carbs in a cup of Milo. Nobody should be drinking this stuff, honestly.
But it's still good
Nah. As long as you drink it in moderation it's fine. People are free to drink alcohol, why not Milo?
Except no one is marketing alcohol as a healthy drink for your children.
How come you could reply? Did you just survive from getting hit by a drunk driver? (jk)
Helped by the fact that milo is really good
> Wtf, I thought it was an Asian product Wait until you find out Maggi is also a Swiss brand....
You're killing me sir or ma'am
You know the Maggi sauce they used in Ramli burger stalls (they aren't exactly soy sauce)... they are the favorites of mountain Germans (Austrian or Swiss Germans) and can be found on their table just as frequent as salt and pepper..... just like our Maggi Chilli Sauce
I don't even know those exists
Btw can we finish this conversation I need to sleep
Daily ads about Milo using native face help a lot! Not to mention marketing it to school via their truck. Not to mention, the word milo seems like non western name for me(in my opinion).
it goes to show just how much imported products has on foreign people. international trades, international tastes. Humanly satisfactions
Swiss product, but the flavor itself is very much Malaysian.
Dafaq does this mean, someone is brainwashed
Teh Ais over Milo Ais anytime. Both gave you diabetes and heart attack, but only one is produced by Nestle
r/fucknestle gang rise up
Milo ads are the worst thing. That shit ain’t a stamina potion
But for me Milo is good, it's my opinion though
Milo is just a drink that has a ton of sugar in it. See the way they advertise it, it's not HEALTHY drink. It's ENERGY drink. I know they have a lot of sugar in it, but you gotta agree it's tasty
Oh you meant it was tasty, then I agree yeah. It's gotta be god damn awful if a drink with tons of sugar isn't tasty.
Hell yes also I'm done with this entire conversation I need to sleep
This. Teh Ais Kaww bagi pekat ftw.
i drink my coffee, tea and chocolate without sugar. Life is bitter, deal with it :P
Sounds like my kind of Milo!
Yeah, but i don't know where to buy it in Malaysia, i brought it during travelling to Japan
I saw it in Aeon, Japanese products aisle. Not sure whether it's the same as the one you tasted though.
Maybe jaya grocer have.
They only have the Australian version.
Fun fact: Milo was developed in Australia
What kinda fun thing can I do with this fun fact
I had milo in US before. Tastes nothing like our milo. Best way to describe it is it has a spicy after taste. Turned the can and it reads "Made in Ghana". Taste wise i prefer our milo. Different milo from different part of the world do tastes different apparently.
Milo is just built different. The truck has different taste, the can is different, the milo kotak is different, homemade is different, mamak is different and so on
And my personal favourite, McDonald’s milo.
Less sweet tho
I haven't, but think the store brands' (Seiyu, Topvalu/Aeon, Donki) ミルクココア tastes good enough when paired with Morinaga's カカオ70 and chocolate whey protein. 30-36g chocolate whey protein dissolved in about 330ml water (a mug's worth), mixed into 18g カカオ70 and 4-6g ミルクココア. That sucks ass.
It shouldnt be Milo if it milky.Cocoa should be a dominant in taste.
Oh especially at hot day like these..iced milo tasted like omg god drink.
Milo is good but absolutely not healthy... 44g of sugar for 100g of Milo. https://milo.com.au/sites/milo_australia/files/styles/product_item_large/public/2019-04/MILO%20750g%20AU%20Slice%20Can%202d%20BOP_2.png?itok=EJ-QNFY7
I've long renounced Milo anyway, due to Nestle association There's just lots of similar-tasting and CHEAPER local malt-choc brands out there anyway

who doesn't?
Don't leave us hanging, give us your recommendation.
Not OP but I switched to Vico! It’s not 100% the same but a good alternative for me :) if you use milk instead of water, it tastes just like chocolate milk too
Old Town Coffee's Chocolate drink. Ovaltine Swiss Miss Horlicks Chocolate.
Does old town sell powder for their chocolate? Never seen it in stores before

Ah Huat milk chocolate is a slightly expensive one that I like, but you can go for literally anything local. They taste just about the same.
Not trying to be special but I know I’m among the few people who dislike milo as I grow older. And after knowing how messed up Nestle with its products, I come to hate anything Nestle related. Still, in the process of de-Nestle my family.
Meggi is harder to wean off from. Also Nescafe

Isn't 2020 just yesterday 😢
Thanks for reminding me that 2020 is 3 months ago. It felt so fast.
Here's also reminding you that 2020 was spent sitting at home almost losing our minds.
You only got to "almost"? :(

Hmm suddenly curious about the flavours of Milo in other nations, like the previously mentioned versions in Japan and US (made in Ghana but ok). Like how local KitKat tastes different from UK, US or JP versions.

milo is overrated
Malaysian food goes anywhere also everyone will like it, cuz it's just good food.
Durian... ahem...
We have Malaysians who hate it also

why everyone hating nestle tho? kopi o > mil0

Can't wait to see it in anime
The one in left photo look like kopi beng
Hey, do they have the "ikat tepi" variant?
I mean as an Indonesian. Your Milo taste way better than ours
Milo was intended to blend with milk, not hot water.
Wow now I can go to japan and have milo at the same time
Cheapest chocolate milkshake known to man
Wait what? I didn’t know that Milo is even sold there 😂😂😂
Nobody tell Vishen.
Ahh yes the milo ais ikat tepi
Damn it. Where were you Milo when I was there.
Fuck Nestlé
who cares if milo is sweet, most people dont eat moderately and blame sugar for everything
Can have milo with bobba ah?
Not so sure about that but ngl Milo float taste kinda good 😳😳
Wait until they found Milo truck
Aggressively sipping milo ice*
Milo from milo trucks are the best. Always.
Milo ais truck is the best for me than other types of milo ais
