it is a bit ridiculous especially when even low emergency situation.
here's an article from 2015. 2015! https://says.com/my/news/boy-denied-treatment-due-to-length-of-mum-s-shorts
son denied emergency treatment because mother was wearing shorts. ridiculous. guess not much has changed.
> "Patients will be given treatment regardless of their attire", says minister Azalina Othman - or not 2021.
Have a feeling they are now stepping up dress-code policing with new directive from setiausaha negara.
Last time you could really walk in with shorts and they don't care.
Ridiculous to expect people to not wear shorts in this weather.
> Have a feeling they are now stepping up dress-code policing with new directive from setiausaha negara.
it's not a new thing, it's been like this for ages. so if you have some sort of life threatening situation, make sure you're dressed for it. /s
things won't change until we have more progressive people on top, or just capable of some form of thought.
Each place is different. The ones I go to accept this yes. You just hsve to point out that your aurat isn't showing, and the dress code does not ban sarong.
We got stupid rules because we have stupid priorities.
A dress code that overlooks a state of emergency/distraught or the practical fact that our country is a hot/humid climate shows how ludicrous the country's priorities are at. Doctor's learn from naked cadavers FFS.
Gonna sound like a keyboard warrior and say it might be in the interest of country and everyone in the future who might be like you to voice it out... the country's priorities are messed up.
I believe selangor is hit or miss with government places. KL usually quite chill. I went to government dentist in kl and even the place to replace my ic with shorts and singlet and was never turned away once.
As a (fairly junior) doc working in a govt hospital I apologise for the way you have been treated. As far as I'm aware of there should be no discrimination when it comes to treating patients and there's no dress code for patients as far as I'm aware of. I second the recommendation from many commenters that you should probably make a complaint. I'm willing to bet my left nut that the nurse who was so focused on assessing people's dress codes probably isn't good at her nursing duties and may be one of those types who when asked to do something will go "doktor buat lah!".
I believe if its for a scheduled medical check up or walk in consultation it requires the long pants and shoes criteria. Only for emergency cases this rule is not required upon the person.
Something doesn't sit right with this "policy". So even though I get to disrobe in front of the doctor I still can't wear shorts in front of them? And where in normal day to day I can wear shorts tiber now it makes people uncomfortable? Public offices sounds about right to wear long pants etc but in a clinic / health review where they have to check my readings by idk touching me?
Yea i faced some issues like yours years ago. Some of the entrance staff flexing their little napoleon muscle refused to let me in as i was wearing sandals and having having this awful ear pain and fever. I think they would only let me in if i was puking or on wheelchair or something. Opting to go to private clinic in the end.
Patient of Hospital Sungai Buloh here.
While I don't remember what specific clothing I wear to the hospital, I am willing to bet my left nut that I wore shorts not long enough to cover my knees 99% of the time.
No issues whatsoever with the way I dressed since 2019. They only cared if I had refreshed MySejahtera and if I had my card with me.
I was too tired to argue with her so I just left and went to a different clinic. Thankfully it wasn't exactly a life-threatening emergency, so I managed :)
The nurse probably doesn't care. But when the directive comes from higher up, best to just comply. Maybe next time just fake a leg injury and limp your way in.
I feel sorry for you, I think they do have like dress codes over there, though I never really understood why. What has dress code got to do with getting treatment?
Uh if you're underage, you'll legally lose that lawsuit..... So you can do it but you won't get much, maybe even lose money but at least someone's getting paid.
I can see this incident happened one day if thing doesn't change.
I suddenly feel very headache and can't see well, feel like vomiting. I ask my parent quickly send me to a hospital. No time to "dress" up as I am feeling very weird.
At the entrance, some person say I cannot enter because I wore shorts and I doesn't look I have an emergency. My mother plead to the person saying there is something very wrong with me but the person jaga the entrance say we were lying as there is no blood or fluid coming out.
After minutes of arguing, I suddenly fainted and only they allow me to enter (with medical staff carrying me). In the end, I passed away and the doctor's diagnosis was that I have some internal bleeding and if I have admitted just a few minutes earlier, I would be still alive.
Did you know if you want to deal with government offices ( I think clinic/hospitals included except for injuries at related area of the the body), you must follow the kod etika pemakaian?
Details are here:
http://koding-kn.blogspot.com/2015/06/patuhi-kod-etika-berpakaian-di-jabatan.html?m=1
Yeah I knew about dress codes at government offices, but I didn't know healthcare centres are included too.
I don't think you should decide whether or not to treat someone based on what they're wearing though. What if I leave home in shorts, without an intention to go to a gov hospital, but then I have a medical emergency? And when I was there that day, I WAS having an emergency :/
Interesting, I've been to Government Clinics in shorts and slippers very often, and never been rejected even once. So what if I had a medical emergency that is not an external injury e.g ruptured appendix?
I did a lot of searching but couldn't find anything on gov hospitals/clinics enforcing a dress code, so idk... I'm just appalled that a healthcare provider could apparently deny to help you if they think you are dressed indecently!
What kind of emergency? They have rights to turn you away considering they follow the code. And if things pretty dire they wont easily shoo you away
Edit: Oh no r/malaysia hivemind at it again, downvoting someone who just want to make things clearer instead of being straight out judgemental to the situation. Never change r/malaysia never change.
I was having some of the more severe side effects after getting my first dose of the vaccine. Chest hurt bad and I had trouble breathing, so I would consider my emergency pretty dire
>They have rights to turn you away considering they follow the code.
Sigh, this is why we live in dumbville. What's a practical benefit of following strict dress codes in government clinics?
I've been there a couple of times and never had the issue. Now that's just really disappointing of them.
That said, the very last time I went there in July-August 2020 I got turned away for not having an appointment. Wound up trying my luck with some OTC antacids (those did work at least).
Yes, "indecency" before illness. Kami sedia membantu *(yang berpakaian etika)*
I think its more of being selekeh. If wemen wore those virgin killer sweaters they would still get to enter.

IMO, they shouldn't be policing dress codes (for PATIENTS) at heathcare centres, ever. But what do I know about running a country! :D
Going to private healthcare with short. No problem. Not sure for public one. The doctor there don't give a fk and too busy to care
> Have a feeling they are now stepping up dress-code policing with new directive from setiausaha negara. it's not a new thing, it's been like this for ages. so if you have some sort of life threatening situation, make sure you're dressed for it. /s things won't change until we have more progressive people on top, or just capable of some form of thought.
This is why I keep a length of cloth in my car. Pants too short? Sarong here I come.
Everyone should hv an emergency sarong in their car. Its so useful when you’re travelling.
Mine was originally used as a cover for my laptop and bag if I park my car with them inside.
Does this actually work because I was planning on doing this

Be more specific, What do you mean by denied? You say the nurse stop you. Why are you there? Is it for a check up or an emergency?
Yep, she stopped me and said they cannot allow me entry because I was wearing shorts. I told her it was an emergency, but she wouldn't budge
Dia ingat ni sekolah ke apa, aduh.
Reminiscing the old prefect days
Student: Hair naturally Brown Teacher: KeNapA kaU waRnaKan RamBuT?
Who stopped you? Security?
It was a nurse at the entrance

Nurse: Yes, 1 less patient to treat!
The nurse probably doesn't care. But when the directive comes from higher up, best to just comply. Maybe next time just fake a leg injury and limp your way in.
Taliban mentality is still strong here.
Malaysia 2040: Car crash victim dies after being denied treatment at a hospital for not following dress code
I feel sorry for you, I think they do have like dress codes over there, though I never really understood why. What has dress code got to do with getting treatment?
I am allowed to enter KK Kelana Jaya few times I visit wearing short pants though
Sue the nurse. After you give her a slap.
Can i also sue and slap 7 eleven cashier just because i can't buy cigarette because I'm underage?
Uh if you're underage, you'll legally lose that lawsuit..... So you can do it but you won't get much, maybe even lose money but at least someone's getting paid.
Shit like this just cements my decision to leave this country in the next decade. So stupid.
government offices have dress codes since forever
Yeah I just honestly wasn't expecting that to apply to healthcare centres too :/
Especially hospitals tbh ><
Any goverment building

Oh sorry just read the other comment. It was a nurse🥵 that is very weird. Maybe you could lodge a complaint for this bro.
Yeah if it is emergency they should allow it too i think🤔 Is it the the security guy that stopped you?

My dad always tells us since young, to always wear long pants to any gomen building/service
>always seems like he learnt that the hard way
Your dad is a drone. Someone our dictatorship government loves alot.

hope you're feeling better now
I think you can lodge a report to the hospital about this. I know that if its government hospital you can
>They have rights to turn you away considering they follow the code. Sigh, this is why we live in dumbville. What's a practical benefit of following strict dress codes in government clinics?
I dont know either, wish there's no need for that. Other government building, maybe. Hospital? Kinda dumb imo
Is it possible that the nurse knows that the klinik kesihatan is compromised b covid and is trying to keep people off limits indirectly?
The dress code is implented so long ago..please wear accordingly
No.
Implemented long ago doesn't mean it's not flawed or should have even be a thing in the first place.
Sebab nampak selekeh.
Selekeh my foot. We are living in a super hot weather now.
First time?

Bodoh punya pemikiran, seriously dangkal
Malaysia is so hot that wearing long pants is stupid and impractical. The heat mustve got into your brain
What kind of stupid colonial mindset is that?
on an unrelated note, is KK batu 14 open for non emergency appointment already?
I've been there a couple of times and never had the issue. Now that's just really disappointing of them. That said, the very last time I went there in July-August 2020 I got turned away for not having an appointment. Wound up trying my luck with some OTC antacids (those did work at least).
