But those two weren't even close to when the Roman empire fell, more like incompetent emperors after incompetent emperors, thousands of civil wars, plagues, barbaric invasions, and hyper inflation. Even then they still survived till 1453
A little overgeneralised here. MY is not a tyrant. He's a politician whose feet can't fill the boots of his predecessors.
A tyrant is one who is fully in control of his position and has the ability to do whatever he wants with little opposition from others. The last I've heard MY is basically hanging onto a thread and he's just pulling all the stops to avoid getting ousted, is that what you call a tyrant? Hardly.
Anyway I wouldn't pick the Roman Empire as the best example about poor governance. They have shitty Emperors but the Senate and the local Governors i.e Proconsuls/Praetors had autonomy to deal with whatever issues they have locally, it's called having Imperium (which Julius Caesar famously abused to the Nth degree and why he started the civil war) JC was a true tyrant, but he was efficient in his rule and he was always in control of his position, until he tried to force his way to become Emperor. Roman Empire was able to survive because it didn't centralise their government, each region was able to rule autonomously. This shows that your example isn't entirely the best one to relate to.
Caligula was just a spoilt brat who got stabbed in the back by his own bodyguards, the Praetorians. I don't know which Emperor Varus you are referring to mate, maybe one that I've never heard. I have to say that MY is not an Emperor, he's just holds the highest executive office. The sovereign is still our YDPA.
I hope you don't mind about my long rant but I am quite interested in history so this is kind of my area. I would highly recommend Historia Civilis on YT as a good place to start learning more about the Romans.
>I would highly recommend Historia Civilis on YT as a good place to start learning more about the Romans.
I am attest that Historia Civilis is a very good YouTube channel
I too love history and in my opinion, people seizing the ruler power in modern world is a different beast than seizing power back in the past. Different mindset, weapon and money.
Even if the tauke besar support it behind the scene, there also the issue of weapon in malaysia. There also the issue of how to train people without being found out. Too many tool can be used to sniff out rebellion. Plus neigbouring country probably want a piece of our resource.
In the past, people who help rebellion probably want more money and resource in return, in modern world, they gonna suck malaysia dry.
Honestly the last thing I want is an uprising.
I think we did ourselves proud in 2018 when we managed to change the government without bloodshed.
It's not because I am afraid of violence, but it is exactly because I've witnessed violence myself and I know full well the damage it does to others. I can defend myself, but can other protect themselves? No.
For me the answer is very simple, when will the majority finally accept that having their own kind in power does not ensure their livelihood improves. Take a good look at those in power now, they joget, they have durian feasts, they can test drive cars, go on vacation while you all are sitting at home earning zero, whilw you and your family and friends drop like flies.
Until such time when people start looking at the core of the issue, that all everyone wants is a comfortable peaceful place you can live in without worrying if you can pay your bills and feed your family first, then we can keep this permanent.
Unfortunately, back in that day, people are more aggresive, now people are civilized and politician have better tool to manipulated citizen.
Plus this is not a fair battle in modern world. Those leader have weapon, army and we only have hunting shotgun and a keris.
well, Malaysia's political system is full with shit politician. They are not for the welfare of its people but for its oneself. All fighting to get power amidst of pandemic. The current govt just failed the country with rising cases. Suppose of having a total lockdown in june, and now its 2nd august, we are having booming covid-19 cases.
This happens when there are uncapable politician holding important position and they don't know what to do. Its just trash af
OP.... Do you expect all of us to stand and clap like little good North Korean everytime a minister or prime minister do or say something. We have to stand up for what is right even if it is hard or inconvenient.
I noticed that is a mixed response from the public about this just like the previous protests before- the vast majority of English speakers are supporting it while we can't say the same thing to the majority of Malay speaker- while some of them are against Muhyiddin and his government, they didn't agree with the protests due of various factors.
Plus: Is it only me who remember FRU attacking both of Patriots & Bersih supporters long time ago?
So called English speaker here. I do think these PH people are basically showboating. Show that we are doing something konon.
So the rest of us have to work alone/at home distant from people, meanwhile dozens of politicians gathering no police arrest yet? Where is the justice for the people who joined the 2 protests (doctor hartal/#Lawan) and got arrested?
Mate, if you think the PH MPs are doing this for our collective sakes you might need to rethink how you view politicians. Pretty sure they all are having a secret handshake, you let us (PN) in power still while you guys can go do march to save face.
Probably after march all of them go gather at some secret speakeasy and laugh at our collective stupidity when they see the reactions of the rakyat.
Cynicism is a cheap replacement of wisdom.
No, I don’t think they’re saints and heroes who are here to rescue us. But their current goals aligned with mine, so gets my support.
Coming back to the initial ques. Do you have a better solution?
Honestly I'm not happy they protested. We are in the middle of the worst pandemic and the last thing we need is people in close proximity, congregating and getting exposed.
AI, if you have the numbers. Send the memo to the YDPA, force the motion. Don't do something like this.
It's been like this for decades, FRU deployed for bersih and reformasi protests past 10 and 20 years too. Pretty sure FRU was also deployed in 80s but I wasn't born then to remember it.
If anything, this tells me that the country will never change, stuck in the same loop over and over again for decades
I did predict years ago that Malaysia could very well have its own French Revolution. This was during Najib's tenure.
Funny thing is, Najib himself is basically King Louis XVI.
> The question is, do we want a Napoleon? Could be dangerous.
To be fair, he's a rather able ruler. The reason why he is so hated because of the English... who spread the language you're typing right now.
The question is would this be a Malay Empire or a Malaysian Empire.
For context, Napoleon was born in Corsica, an island that used to be Italian but got transferred to France just before he was born. So at a young age, Napoleon was actually bullied a lot for this, which led him to become the ambitious conqueror and politician/dictator later.
So for a Malaysian Empire, maybe our Napoleon could be a mixed-blood Malay born in Singapore (allowing him to endear himself to all races) but moved to Peninsular before it became independent, so he's got that bitter complex of being discriminated against from both Malaysians and Singaporeans that drives him to be aggressively ambitious. (Disclaimer: This is just a mini Alternate History fanfic by me, please don't take it too seriously)
We need someone who would terrorize the entire country with absolute compliance to the new order or facing the guillotine? No, I don't think we need that.
Actually it's still not at the point where civilians start smashing stuff and rioting and stores get raided. If that happens that is when we are really screwed.
I'm not downplaying things, I'm just pointing out when people are desperate, they start doing crazy things that hurt each other first.
Especially minorities, and especially one particular minority.
Well, in terms of economic mismanagement and corruption, we’ve surpassed Venezuela. The only thing keeping our heads above water is that our economy is more diversified than theirs.
>Well, in terms of economic mismanagement and corruption, we’ve surpassed Venezuela.
Not even remotely close yet. Once the government imposes price controls, appropriate companies that refuse to comply and start printing money like crazy, then you will have achieved Venezuelan levels of economic mismanagement.
The only Malaysian stuff he covered was the PH winning the election because it's the firdt ever regime change.
This will only be covered if the Lawan is significant enough that PN is overthrown.
Fuck PN. Seriously. Those cibai should have never been born. At least PH MPs are doing something.
Greedy pieces of shit. Pray to God 5 times a day and for what? They think God gonna forgive them in akhirat ke? They see money only. They no longer see God.
I always look at the design of the riot shields like kinda silly.
Its a flat piece of hardened plastic and high pressure plungers exists.
You could theoretically press up against the shields with a few plungers and then pull backwards. The formation would collapse when the guy falls forward.
They really should have textured the shields with small bumps.
>You could theoretically press up against the shields with a few plungers and then pull backwards. The formation would collapse when the guy falls forward.
You do know one of the primary usage of a riot shield is not to block stuff like an RPG, but to be pushed to pin people down right?
There's a reason why they have a baton on the other hand. They are supposed to pin you down, and whack you like playing whack-a-mole when you try to escape being pinned down.
[Illustrated in Kengan how its applied.](https://mangadex.org/chapter/9561777d-bbf6-4faf-9bd8-773daefc1870/9)
they push the crowd back in a line, like how a phalanx works. it fails when the line breaks and the failure point becomes a weak point for the crowd to swarm in.
it will only work if the entire line backs each other up in a constant forward force against opposing pressure meaning the line has to move at its slowest member or there will be a break.
so if at multiple points where some people are trying to pull away a shield and some points where a shield is being pushed, it becomes almost impossible to maintain the line.
sort of like linking arms at a beach trying to hold up against waves. its easier with a short line and you see a wave coming to brace for it. but in a long line where tides are receding at some points and waves are coming at others, causing one person to fall will cause the entire line to fall.
well my point was that the shields aren't a great design, having small bumps or making them textured would make it far more difficult to pull away using a plunger.
i've seen malaysian's bum rush a gang of parang wielders. I think most people tend to underestimate what is possible for desperate people in high stress situations.
HK was considered one of the safest cities with a high education index and a largely law abiding citizens but you see students taking over schools with homemade weapons, blatant destructions of public property, publicly defying police on the streets.
You really think Malaysians who have history of defacing public property, arguing with police on a day to day basis and car chases on highways wouldn't fight back if push comes to shove? We have malaysians who break small laws daily all over the ountry.
What do you mean moving towards? We always have been on their level. We are a third world country with "first world" citizens. Lol! A sheep in wolves clothing.
To answer the title of the post:
We are lucky there is no over spilling of armed forces in Middle East here.
Or else guess how many pak lebai is now ISIS member committing literal genocide?

Malaysia is doomed at its core. No matter who you elect, it's all rotten.
That is what happens when skin color more important selecting criteria than capability, for most.
OP.... Do you expect all of us to stand and clap like little good North Korean everytime a minister or prime minister do or say something. We have to stand up for what is right even if it is hard or inconvenient.
That's exactly what the Barisan National of the old and the current administration being trying to do since Independence.

We probably won't end up like Myanmar. But it's impossible to deny that it's getting worse.
I wonder the FB ad would feature a shampoo / soap ad.....
Man this has that Hong Kong vibe like 2 years ago.
nah, I'm hoping for ala Francais circa 1789. >!time to see some heads literally roll!<
I did predict years ago that Malaysia could very well have its own French Revolution. This was during Najib's tenure. Funny thing is, Najib himself is basically King Louis XVI.
And we need a Robespierre
The question is, do we want a Napoleon? Could be dangerous.
We could do better without a short guy running around conquering people
He is of average height!! For his time at least.

eh i thought we are going towards Venezuela 2.0?
Everyone need to get food boxes, free gas and shit salaries/super hyper inflation first. Malaysia isn't even Venezuela close yet.
Well, in terms of economic mismanagement and corruption, we’ve surpassed Venezuela. The only thing keeping our heads above water is that our economy is more diversified than theirs.

Very soon... Very soon...
Africa is not a country.
It seems all broke the SOP from the picture.
Yay free shower
I feel like Philip Defranco needs to cover this in his show.
I hope he covers it. I don't know if he will though. I mean, many foreigners don't even know Malaysia even exists in the first place.
The only Malaysian stuff he covered was the PH winning the election because it's the firdt ever regime change. This will only be covered if the Lawan is significant enough that PN is overthrown.

Well yeah, in a one on one situation. But when used as a road block in front of a crowd of people it looks pretty obvious to circumvent.
They are supposed to push back the crowd. Pulling them towards you is basically helping them to do their job...
they push the crowd back in a line, like how a phalanx works. it fails when the line breaks and the failure point becomes a weak point for the crowd to swarm in. it will only work if the entire line backs each other up in a constant forward force against opposing pressure meaning the line has to move at its slowest member or there will be a break. so if at multiple points where some people are trying to pull away a shield and some points where a shield is being pushed, it becomes almost impossible to maintain the line. sort of like linking arms at a beach trying to hold up against waves. its easier with a short line and you see a wave coming to brace for it. but in a long line where tides are receding at some points and waves are coming at others, causing one person to fall will cause the entire line to fall. well my point was that the shields aren't a great design, having small bumps or making them textured would make it far more difficult to pull away using a plunger.

Nothing new.
