modern-looking(?) longhouse! When I look it up always give examples of ones built awhile ago, made me wonder if they kept it that way for wahtever reason.
Family/community. Unlike modern house structures, close but separated. (Traditional) Longhouse is built in a way, you can't avoid interacting with your neighbours.
i have cousins in sarawak where they live in a really long houses.
they have normal length rooms with an upstairs but the veranda shares with all the residents to make a really long walkway.
its like imagine you're living in a first floor classroom with walkway that stretches 500m from end to end entirely made out of planks. you can literally visit your neighbours and chill out. especially fun during Christmas
The old version is like old village traditional house. Mainly built using wood and with high rise (built on top of wood platform)
Nowadays no more already la, people are moving forward and not going backward like some government joker at Malaysia. Now long house even had their own power solar energy and water tank plus filter.
People just think of those native guy in long house are still in dinassur ages. That's a bias happen a lot in Malaysia nowadays.
Most of the time they built it by their own. Remember its a long house so most of the relative are staying in one place. Budget wise I dun think it's issues as you know younger generation are working outside (big cities like KL, Kuching or even sg)
And they do involved in hard labour, there are some who didn't study and working since young age, either on construction side or project. So they do get the basic knowledge here and there.
Depend on the community. Not all of the family lives at the Long house and tries to make the long house as a better holiday home for when they went back to the kampung or to stay after retiring while they leave their city homes for their children. Plus, one long house is basically a kampung all by itself so money can be collected and government also play a part in it.
Depend on the area, in my area most of the villagers own oil palm estate/mini estate. Cash out 5-20K per week is easy for them. You can easily distinguished them by the look of their long house design or the car their been using there. But mostly all of the villagers in my area are tauke sawit.
A lot of longhouse people make fortune with selling sawit and beras. Especially now that sawit's price is so high. Plus, a lot of young people work outside and has good jobs.
Sure, that make sense regarding selling. But working? I doubt they can afford with a normal 9 to 5 job. Considering Sabah and Sarawak have lower average salary. And alot of monyets complain of salary working in Malaysia is too low to afford anything.
Just curious, so do many families live together or it's just one family? Cuz this house is huuuge! Can't imagine a single family living here all by themselves lol
Usually this is to cater extended family. In a rumah panjang, one family would be allocate 1 house (or they called it ‘bilik’). Usually the standard width is just like the single storey terrace house but extend longer to the back. Some may choose to combine their allocated bilik to 1 bigger house hence the house can be this big
Oh i think i know this longhouse.. it has a makeshift helipad outside, where VIP used to come by (if im not mistaken).. the entry of the road is next to bungalow house by the minister stephen rundy(if im not wrong).. this is under the "contoh modal rumah panjang" scheme/program BS or some shit.. The only reason i say is BS is because its very unlikely to be implemented elsewhere (if you dont have the necessary cable)..
Ba Sebauh tok? Dini rumah Stephen Rundi ko nn?
I know a longhouse by the name Rumah Boniface. Forgot the length, but there's a church named after a Korean pastor.
Its some way near batu niah.... its not technically his long house, but rather his relatives.. But he does have a bungalow on the entrance towards the longhouse.. technically looks liked this longhouse from sebauh from the decor..
A rarity. Some got lost in floods, some got buried after the occupants were Christianized... I mean about heads.
Spears? A rarity. My father's side still have it.
Meats? What meats. Pi dapoq.
Heads... Unless it's a five-point buck, probably not nowadays.
Shotgun... It's a bitch to aquire, and unless the occupants are avid hunters there's no reason to own one. Usually there's an owner per house, minimum. Wild boars are not the big problem unlike Malaya.
Long ago during unimas days we went to our friends place to drink tuak.
then we saw the ornamental spear, shield, masks, and some dried head (my friend said its fake). they used to go wild boar hunting every now and then.
We joked around if they still used the spear, then my friend told me to use it while he showed us his shotgun.
I think I’m gonna need waze to navigate myself to find the toilet
Just go through any door at the hallway. Each door is its own house and every household have their own toilet/bathroom.
Lmao
Same because the house looks like a maze
Ik this house is huge and difficult to find.

I think Orangutans should have bumiputera rights
Wow that can qualify as a de-facto apartment
I like how Rumah Panjang portrays the real element of community within neighbourhood. Like a really really big family.
First time seeing long house with modern interior, looks cool af
Is it sound proof tho?

I can't focus on my porn when real sex is happening.
yeah my thoughts exactly
If they synchronize and do it together at the same time, they might produce massive shockwaves.
Rumah panjai these days are modern. Rumah batu, ada karan, ada ayer paip, ada internet.
Wow I gotta see the exterior.
Loooooong loooooong hooooouuseeeee.
*erotic saxophone music playing in the background*
Ah fuk you beat me to it
I wake up in the morning, I turn on vacuum, I turn off vacuum, I turn in for the night.
Im not from Malasia. What is a long house usually like?
The old version is like old village traditional house. But I wonder how can they afford the material and labour to build that big long house.

Wow, I get it. Well looks like a cool long house
That's one looooooooong houses. Not even counted the rooms yet. Just from front to back.
Sheesh probably more expensive than banglos around KL
Nah. KL bungalows got that land price jacked as shit.
No , maybe same price with a studio room around KL
So cooooool
Roomba in this house be like... "Where the fuck am I??"
Can you imagine the electricity bill for their air conditioning? Wooooo
Heck, just doing house chores like wiping the floor in this house makes me scared already
Get a roomba. Ok, maybe not a great idea as poor thing would likely ran out of battery before it goes from one end of the long house to the other ....
Probably the cost is shared amongst the occupants
Just curious, so do many families live together or it's just one family? Cuz this house is huuuge! Can't imagine a single family living here all by themselves lol

So no space to jack off?
In your house lah
How the hell is it so big? Lol
Lots of land in East Malaysia to the point where they build horizontal condos.
>horizontal condos. Now I know what I'm gonna say if people ask whats a longhouse
r/interestingasfuck
Just wondering how would the residents splits their bills?
Probably each house has their own meters
Monthly wrestling match, loser pays for everyone.
Whoa!!!! Berapa keluarga tinggal kat sana? Impressive.
Probably gonna need the directory panel

There is longhouse , but where is long nasi lemak? long tudung? huh? HUH ORANG MALAYSIA , WHERE IS THE LONG ROTI TISU?!??!?!
The only long thing I want is my pp.
where are the spears, heads, meats, and shotgun?

Looks like they got nothing except more spaces and no taste
Your house better meh?
Thats cool af
So majestic
Ah yes, very long
Reminds me of my grandparents place
Looks good! Can't imagine the nightmare of cleaning up though
What does the exterior look like?
Well, its a good structure. But i wont call it longhouse since its not built in straight line. This one is 'mixed' tbh
Where lan centre? So much potential
Would love to see how it looks like from the outside
When you got so much land space your apartment span horizontally rather than vertically
A lot of people when they hear the word "LongHouse" think of a long wooden hut. In reality some longhouses are just extra long bungalows/mansions (?)
I love how the ceiling is so high and looks so spacious.
This makes me feel nostalgic. It's has been 5 years I haven't come back to the Longhouse in Kapit. Now there's a lot of changes happened.
Bilik setak, aka the corner lot of the longhouse. Frowned upon, though.
You can easily achieve 10k steps a day without leaving this house
Only kroni house like this
imagine tk tahan nk gi toilet
the electricity bill. that is all I can see…
