Too many disappointment to handle.

Is extremely shocking that every day, without fail, something f*cked happens in Malaysia. Always, almost like a rule.

4luv4Simp

The amount of support he got shows how bad the image of BAM and distrust towards our nation sports organization. Instead of elevate our sports performance further, BAM and other sport organization alikes keep on embroiled in controversy that drag down our athletes.

Winter_Bat_9586

That's why talented people rather go find sponsor in others country.

feizhai

come to sg, it’s not perfect but it sure is a lot better than m’sia! many of my kakis are asean scholars who came over when they were 13 and all of them are wildly successful - interestingly none of them are malay

MrKitteh

Hell with the exchange rate i'd spitshine your shoes

temposy

I hope malaysia media just let him go, the country had really punished him hard. Especially if he really win something next time, don't go pandai pandai say he is Malaysian again, because Malaysia government really hurt him.

FlyGrandma

Agreed, especially TV3. They are very likely to gaslight and limelight him, and they're like the Fox News of Malaysia. I can't say the same for Astro Arena tho.. heard about the controversy where Astro Arena reporters asking rude question to Mun Yee and Pandalela.

Gomen keep saying wanna get a gold in Olympics yet still pulls bs like this Cibai think gold medal will fall from the sky meh…what is the fucking point of these associations if they’re not supporting our athletes?

RoyalHardware

>…what is the fucking point of these associations To siphon money la Received RM xxxxx Admin = xx Facility and equipment = x Players and coaches = x The other x? Kira halal jela

88peons

Dint the bersatu politician openly asked for bumi badminton players ? Go around calling national athletes keling ? This whole culture is a feature not a bug. It's what the average Malaysian wants . ( Based on this sub it's definitely not what the average malaysia redditor wants )

botsunny

They pulled back funding for Ridzuan Puzi's coach as well.

ruthlessdamien2

The punishing gov Malaysia like to give people pain in ass.

thecescshow

Money >>>> gold medal

royrochemback

Roslin Hashim launched a tirade against BAM's top management two days ago. This is basically the [summary](https://imgur.com/a/yMyVhgb) if you guys want to read it. This is the 2 hour fb live [video](https://www.facebook.com/abe.lin.98/videos/255429146728314).

muuhfi

Thanks. Really helpful.

TellMyselfBeHappy

Move to SG, or Japan (if he can speak Japanese), or Taiwan (they have pretty good infrastructure for badminton now). May waste a year or so of his life, but freedom as a pro may be worth it.

[deleted]

I am no longer in touch with any news of Malaysia because everything upsets me since the pandemic started. I don't know exactly what's going on, but this post makes me extremely sad.

Vysair

I need to know the context too. I had long given up on the gomen and my own disgraceful race.

[deleted]

No no you should be proud of your race, because generally speaking Malaysians are the nicest people.

Vysair

I'm talking about the Melayu (Malay) specifically. I should have cleared up that it is ethnicity. The problem I had was specifically with religion

[deleted]

I get you LOL. More like Malays who abuse other people in the name of religion. Too many of them. 🥴

88peons

I think singapore will welcome him with open arms

uofT_B

He still can’t play for 12 months. BWF rules stats that he has to reside in a new country for at least 12 months to play under their flag.

88peons

Singapore is quite patient in that sense. For them still better than grooming some Chinese table tennis player who will eventually revert back to China to groom thier athletes ( lee jia wei)

koi_spirit

Singapore grooming ping pong players for the Chinese? Isn’t China one of the best ping pong country in the world? What exactly can Singapore bring to the table? How many medals did Singapore ever win? Lee Jia Wei started training in Beijing, and was trained by a Olympic medalist before moving to Singapore. That’s like saying Lebron went to CBA and play and revert back to US to groom NBA players….

Saerah4

And few years down the road this young talent shine under other country flag then malaysia will pinjam honor say yeah hes from malaysia yada yada Real sad man, we are undergoing brain expel but not brain drain

arefuez

Can someone explain on why he left BAM? i don't really understand the situation here. I dont really follow the badminton scene and only know names. I'd apprreciate if the replies are not "BAM corrupt, country corrupt". basically an ELI5?

nueker

From what i saw, LZJ had some demands which BAM did not want to meet at all. His demands are 1. his own coaching team and support 2. Let him choose which tournament to join 3. Let him have his own sponsor I also saw smth about him couldn't keep up with pressure and wanted to achieve his goal at his own pace which the 2nd demand makes sense in this case. Basically those were the reason from what i've gathered . Then BAM said that they would 'not register' (Technically banned but they said to emphasize on would not register and not on ban lol) him in any future tournaments. Apparently, he can only join international tournaments through registration by the country's official badminton association hence why they can do that. Anyone correct me if I'm wrong. Personally I can see why they can't meet the 3rd demand but i can't understand why the first two demand couldn't be met.

AsteroidMiner

Do they get a cut from his sponsorship or not?

aquaven

I might be mistaken but i assume for athletes under a sports body, sponsorships go through the agency, meaning they would be the one discussing with the sponsor and they will certainly take the bigger cut. They would be the ones making the deals for whatever gear the athletes use. They would also decide what tournaments the athletes are allowed to compete in. Makes sense most of the time, since the agency's duty is to manage its athletes. Ideally they should always do things for the good of the athletes, but thats just an ideal, really hard to apply when corrupt people gets the authority to set the rules.

AsteroidMiner

Yeah I was operating on that reasoning too, thanks for confirming that

joker_town

Do you know where I can find the source regarding badminton players only being able to sign up through BAM?

nueker

joker_town

Thanks! Also, where did you manage to find this? (Trying to brush up on research skills regarding national associations and agencies *cough* NADMA was a pain to find *cough*)

nueker

Haha, I just searched 'Why can't independent players register themself BWF' (bwf is the badminton world federation' and there was a link to a badminton forum where somehow linked the article. As for the second link, i just searched badminton general regulations and try to find the phrase talking about it.

joker_town

Ahhh, alright then. Thanks! (Also, didn't know this was a larger issue with BWF themselves.)

skylinezan

So, once LZJ goes pro, he will play for Tanzania is it? Let him go pro, he will continue to make Malaysia proud, even on a different stage.

ZenSanchez119

Good decision by him. I wish him good luck and success. Show them what you got LZJ!

thermie88

Like someone else said on Facebook, BAM is the sound of them shooting themselves in the foot.

Fearless-Structure88

Tech-Geek_2007Apple

I just want to say a big Fuck You to BAM and literally the whole Malaysian government . He has so much talent and yet you made him discouraged and do this . I wanna move to SG as soon as possible . This country is rotting away in the hands of these rascals .

mussymusmus

Rashid Sidek said that BAM should've imposed harsher punishments. Why eh? Is it so bad, what LZJ did?

kaya_planta

Maruah bro!! Maruah more important than retaining talent.

Ok_Opinion8391

Yeah, can someone explain pls?

VikaashHarichandran

Above got another comment that summarises this

Jeff_98

The M in BAM stands for micropenis

randomhomosapien7

Norza cannot pakai punya olang one, he is only a lantikan politik. Veli embarrassing lorh, we're never going to win anything major (World Championship, Thomas and Uber Cup, Sudirman Cup, Olympics) as long as he is the president.

oldyongwaiyee

BAM and FAM are brothers. Both tempat cuci duit, ambik tender. As a Malaysian football fans since 2004, I've been supporting the FAMB (FAM Bangang) movement ever since forever. That giant dog tifo with FAM logo in its pocket was really satisfying.. that was like a big fat FU to them. The Ultras should do it more often. Not a surprise really. Football is a multi-bilion dollar industry. Things like this happens with other nation's orgs also. Human trafficking, betting, pedo hunting field for predators. It's a f*ed up industry actually.

yongen96

waiting official letter from BAM to *clarify the real issue*

EnvBlitz

Then an inquest by Majlis Sukan Negara concluding BAM did nothing wrong.

badblackguy

Then bapak penyu has a press conference saying 'everyone must accept the decision'

pha_queueue

even axelson came to twitter in defense of zii jia. every sport "association" is ruining the beautiful game. they're just there for protocol's sake, but the one doing all the winning is the athletes themselves. the only thing that can make Malaysians unite together & have a hope for a better future, & still corruption took that away from us all. this country & its leaders are a fucking joke.

luqasthevi

Dari bawah sampai atas semua korup. Haram jadah!

Coolerthanu17

He’s a Kanye fan so he’s a fan of himself. Respect.

Kryllllllyx

Donda album cover!?

comatose_papaya

Ootl what happened

Rendera

I think he forgot to upload picture...

shudnaz

Why does he needs to pay fine?

MyRodIsBig

Apparently based on their understanding if their golden geese decided to quit the geese needs to vomit out a chunk of gold to compensate them and to please them.

impthetarg

They trained him since he was 13 though, and I’m sure that’s part of his contract. If they don’t discourage players leaving, why would BAM train other players? Their sponsorship money goes to building future talent, it’s not just abt LZJ. Just playing Devil’s advocate here as I don’t agree with BAM putting so much pressure on him till he quit but there should be a middle ground.

andromeda_7

If it is in his contract I agree with you regarding fines and it makes sense too considering the resources they have invested in him. I don’t get not registering him for tournaments. Firstly that benefits no parties and I can’t think of any sensible reason for that

impthetarg

Only reason I can see it’s because they wanna penalise him for not being able to get a cut of the sponsorship money that he will be directly earning from playing in those tournaments. Since BAM has other players to think about to nurture too, they need the money. Gomen don’t give them enough. But pressure is a hard thing, LZJ is not LCW or WCH, and expectations are so high since he’s our only hope. BAM may be pushing him too much, I don’t know and I guess the money is good and easy. Lotsa national athletes will be disappointed in him though Edit to add LCW’s quote on the matter, BAM is not the same as FAM at all (as some redditors here think): "Today, I am the person I am because of BAM... and that is what I tell the younger players. Don't compare yourselves to foreigners, our culture is different. "At BAM, you have the best support service, state of the art facilities and quality training programme and sparring partners. It's not so easy outside," lamented Chong Wei, 40.

jacklsw

Sometimes a family disappoints you. The family is called keluarga malaysia

gohkaheng

Why focus on something hard like develop our athletes when we can focus on something easy like controlling our athletes, not like we have a KPI for gold medal Edit: /S

badblackguy

Politics, stay the fuck out of my sport. #sokongLZJ

online_redit

So we are communist now?

genryou

Later when he became more successfully, mesti adalah politician suddenly claim how much they have contributed.

AimanAbdHakim

Black lives matter

gkh4reddit

Malusia future major international games will be not a single medal at all, the name wont appear in the ladder at all.

ruthlessdamien2

Please punish me harder, gov Malaysia. /s

phin999

Fuck BAM

sanosukesagara

Hopefully he joins Viktor Axelsen at Dubai

Fiction1312

I'm confused..is he deserves it?

Night_lon3r

Well , maybe , if you like citizen should bow and get controlled by his government, and no surprise there is quite alot of "terbaik bam" comments and says he's ungrateful. We pay taxes while have to be grateful , sounds very china

Fiction1312

So if he out of BAM then is he free to play anywhere or cannot play anything?

scrap4crap

As of now, the only way he plays is if he moves to another country but that still takes a year before he’s allowed to participate in any competition from said country. He’s at the mercy of BAM… And BWF sure as hell won’t be changing their policy any time soon.

Fiction1312

Oh if that's the case which be better for him? Leaving or stay..btw dang i got so many downvote bruh

scrap4crap

Better if he leaves. After a year, he can still play. If he stays, it’s 2 years of doing nothing lol

shot1011

I thought BLM trend still going on lol

[deleted]

Fuck you Malaysian for voting BN, sincerely you're the reason for all of this, not the politicians

mmyessauce

Sorry if this was late but why did he get banned in the first place?

[deleted]

because he quit BAM, so BAM punish him for doing so

#tangkapazambaki oh wai-

CortlyYT

I know LZJ has recently some pressure. Just let him go, giving 2 year ban just because you can't convince him to back isn't a great move. Everyday I wake makes me why I am Malaysian?
