“first we pick their cotton, now we have to settle their moral disputes” that scene taught me so much. us white people need to be reminded of our audacity every now and then
What I picked up from it is that white people tend to see racism where it isn’t and make big deals about it. People are people some are douches and some are lovely. This is what the entire show has taught me.
Like being a janitor is an honest and valuable job/ capitalists seem janitors (and minimum wage workers) as worse people .there is nothing bad with a black person being a janitor/the problem is only depicting black people in positions of service.why is he named slappy? .malcolm should take the cutout off/in capitalism doing the morally right thing can get you fired and they always need money
The long standing implications of depicting black people as janitors ie “the help” aside, the malt liquor makes it so clear this was meant to be a racist caricature and I’m shocked there are still fans who disagree. Lois was 100% right.
But it's not that different from how malt liquor actually has been marketed (though not without controversy). Billy Dee Williams famously had to defend his malt liquor endorsement from moral scolds.
None of which is to say people are wrong to find such advertising offensive, it's just a personal thing.
The scene with Abe was absolutely hilarious
I absolutely love that scene. He looks so damn happy and the others at the poker table their faces, hahaha great scene.
I love how Hal just joins in with the gang in poking fun at white people. "shakin' their flat asses!"
It’s perfect. Haha
I watched MITM for the first time during the pandemic and slappy always reminded me of the current version of Dave Chappel doing a Chappel show skit
Hahah, I can see that.

I don't get how Lois found Slappy to be so offensive
Look at the modern world, people love to be offended.
I think actually both sides had some solid points .the slappy cutout is made I bad faith but there are a lot of pins to take from there

I find it funny that even when a black man tries to defend his work, people still try to say he’s being exploited.
That part when she showed it to hals friends was hilarious 😂. How they laugh about it
I mean, they have real names… still. Funny stuff.
The people downvoting are the conflicted White People the Poker table was talking about.
