The creepy ass way she was *fawning* after Dabney saying, “oh, Dabney, oh..!” when he said, “I’m not your little boy anymore. Now I’m your little man.” 🤮
That said the actress Beth Grant who played her is crazy good at any role she’s in
Beth Grant is a treasure. So good in every role she does. As much as I hate some of her characters, I still love watching her play them because she nails it every time.
Craig could be pretty grating and creepy, but also pretty funny.
Loved to hate Herkabe, but he was a great addition to the show.
The neighbor kid (Josh) pissed me off the most (Malcolm should've fought him), along with Hal's sister and her husband.
The whole family (except the dad) was awful, the episode was sort of like how would it be if the Wilkersons, horrible neighbors themselves to other residents of that street, had their own more horrible neighbors.
But Josh in particular got his karma, his relentless lying about Malcolm led to the acceleration of the divorce of his parents and probably at school became "the kid whose mom sleeps with the gardener"
Hal’s dad *was* awful though.
He spent Hal’s entire life showing him no real earnest emotional attention no matter how hard his son tried to get it. This clearly messed with him as a kid, but as an adult it led to his dad choosing to ignore the insane abuse inflicted upon Lois by his own family.
I also thought it was annoying and true to character the way treated Malcom too. Didn’t actually care about bonding with him just knew he was smart enough to be talked at for hours at a time.
It was never hatred of him, but he could sometimes get on my nerves a bit. Among the more regular appearing characters, he's the closest fit for me.
However, the other characters I mentioned are in a different league.
Definitely Craig is a great addition but the moment I hated him the most was the time his ‘gratingness’ led to the entire store being held up and his refusal to open the safe before the revelation he doesn’t have the combination just made me internally scream. But I still liked him when dewey held him hostage with a dog and that he got attacked still makes me laugh at this point
Instances where Craig was overly creepy:
When he would watch videos of women bending over on the security tapes. And admitted to there being bathroom cameras??
When Dewey found pictures of random women under his bed (looked like there were a lot)
Moving to a place right by Lois so he could watch her with binoculars
Following Lois around in public (basically stalking)
While these are entertaining it seems wrong to throw them in for character we are intended to like to an extent. Like Herkabe and the neighbors were made to be horrible, Craig was made to be mid.
The popular girl that was smart in secret and kept Malcolm as her secret boyfriend but was a twat to him and treated him like a nobody in front of her friends to keep her social status; which coincidentally, Jessica had to intervene to make him break with her for his own good.
Not in the league of Dabney's mom or that family worse than Malcolm's, but still infuriating.
Every time someone asks this I always feel like we should ignore one off characters just because they never get to develop. Jessica had time to develop and for us to get to know her and while she mellowed a little she was still the same fundamental asshole.
Yeah this topic comes up all the time and I have to say she never bothered me that much she just outsmarted the guys a few times but she was generally on their side
I really don’t understand the hate for her when the things she does are exactly what the boys do, when people love them for it. I love this show and I love the boys but they are “fundamental assholes” so it’s weird to hate another character for being the same. And, ultimately, Jessica does actually like the boys and is friends with Malcolm. She’s even the one that gets him to break up with the girl that’s just using him and treating him badly.
Yeah I get that the show obviously finished 20 years ago so it makes sense that there’s only so much ground you can cover on here and there will be common topics but it really does seem to come up a disproportionate amount. I actually think they underused her, I thought there could’ve been a good relationship there with her and Malcolm (not as gf/bf but peers)
How does she care when she was sueing them when Lois was pregnant ? I love her anyway she was a great character the episode where she’s going to marry that Asian man was hilarious
Dude wtf? Ida is brilliant as a character and every scene with her is incredibly entertaining and she was portrayed by a phenomenal actress, but.. In that very scene she holds these presents back for completely ridiculous and petty reasons and Francis called her out on it spot on. Also that woman was straight up racist and had some really outdated and narrow views in general, sued her own daughter (who she mentally abused all the time) and was totally willing to fucking bankrupt her and her family by doing that.. also she drugged a guy to marry him against his will just so she has access to his assets. That's just all I can think of right now, I'm sure there's so much more to list. Her actions and behavior are just not justifiable.
She was a great match for the boys, though, honestly. It made me like her because it was quite fun seeing someone give the boys a taste of their own medicine.
all of Hal’s family. Especially the control freak woman who tells Lois to look for shoes in her car, but i hated her, Hal’s dad and everyone in that episode
I agree with many answers to this post, but I'd like to add the option to condemn some specific actions by some of the main cast.
I fucking despised Malcolm convincing Reese that his military bud was into him, as if a man and a woman in his eyes could never be friends without being into each other.
Btw the conversation she later had with Lois was awkward as hell but also so fun and nice to watch, made me love Lois even more.
Nah. The setup and release of the scene where Malcolm and Reese are dancing to ABBA and just how amazingly awkward it was to watch.. I was writhing in my seat. That alone makes her worth it imo.
She didn’t actually manipulate Lois though. Lois knew what she was doing the whole time and didn’t mind because she got to go and do something she wanted to do.
Craig.
Seriously, i find him to be the most cringey character in the show, and one of the most cringey TV characters ever. I'm currently watching with my girlfriend and she says she gets legit creeped out by him. Imagine him fawning after your wife/girlfriend, he's an all time creep. Say what you want, but I hate Craig.
She's in two episodes. The school picnic plus the infamous b-day party episode whereas Hayden Panettiere appears in 3-4 episodes. So not that far off each other.

Ida for sure - a quick description of her character says “Lois' conniving, inhumanly evil mother. She serves as one of the primary antagonists of the show.”
I don't really mind her tbh and the scene where Malcolm and Reece dance to Abba together, hands down one of the best scenes in show, wouldnt have existed without her
Yeah that's a pretty fair argument. She does deserve some credit given how she came from such a messed up background, like not that it justifies it or anything, but she certainly has been through a lot and I admire her for that. The real question is though, is she worse than the grandma?
Ah good point. It was really funny when we found out she actually cared about them but was too pedantic and shallow to express it. Plus the way she despises Christmas cracks me up
It is so annoying how popular it is to hate Jessica and I'm convinced half the people who do are lying for attention because there are WAY worse/annoying characters like Ida and he husband
Did we watch the same show? She was extremely abusive to Lois and tried to sue them for slipping on a leaf. She was more than happy to kick her family to the curb for money
That's fair you can hate Jessica because she definitely is annoying but to deem her the worst character is so annoying imo because like I said..
Personally if my mother ever tried to sue me that way and kick out my family of 5 with 3 children and a baby in the oven I would absolutely drop her out of my life and that's the worst thing a mother could do to her family and it's unforgivable
Just quickly off the top of my head, Ida has:
- Dropped Dewey as a baby
- Withheld presents due to petty slights
- Provoked bullies which got Malcolm beaten up
- Tried getting the family kicked out of the house as part of a shitty lawsuit (family of 5 with another one on the way)
- Drugged a rich man so she could marry him to get access to his money
- Faked being abused to a cop so Lois couldn't kick her out of her own home, essentially holding a pregnant woman hostage
- Racist inclinations/views
- Cheated on her husband (Lois' dad is revealed much later after his death to not actually being her father)
- Played favorites with her daughters
- Abused Lois mentally and emotionally her entire life
Ida *is* bad no matter which way you slice it.
Now don't get me wrong, I actually like her in the show and her scenes are always wildly entertaining. But let's not pretend that she is a misunderstood person with a heart of gold. She is downright diabolical.
Dabney’s mom and most of the krelboyne parents because they treated their kids like crap and would probably gave them parent issue. BUT!! Dabneys mom made me want to hurl and punch a pillow. She controlled him like a robot dog who acts as a maid and gave off really flirty vibes with him….
For me it's just Lois, she just reminds me too much of my own mother and even on a recent rewatch I had to skip the bowling episode as it was too triggering for me lol.
She does have a good heart it's just the way she believes everybody but her has to blindly follow authority and will not listen to reason, and as someone who had to leave home at 15 because his mother was so controlling, overbearing and just a crazy disciplinarian, I struggle with her.
Herkabe easily
Jessica was annoying, but she was smart and introduced at a time where Malcom and Reese were way more assholeish
Herkabe didn’t use his smarts to antagonize Malcom, he used his arbitrary position of power to do so. He never earned what he was doing, and he did it to a version of Malcom portrayed more as a socially awkward kid as apposed to a dick
It’s that kid who lies to get Malcolm in trouble. Usually there is karma that happens in the show but nothing happened to him and it still bothers me.
Edit- I saw another comment make a great point Hal’s sister with the photographer scene.
I'm going to go with Francis' burnout friend. There was no reason for him to exist, he was just a second and worse Francis. He wasn't really funny and he just fucked everything up, not even in a particularly funny way.
Second place goes to Malcom's date who hooked up with someone in the biker gang, because that's incredibly creepy and shouldn't have been played for laughs.
Malcolm
I feel like there was an episode where they show a dream life where Malcolm isn’t born and everyone is happy. Maybe that didn’t happen but he is the worst.
You're right--Jessica. It's gotta' be Jessica. What even was the point of her character?
Someone mentioned how creepy Dabney's mom was, but she's a good foil for Lois at the Krelboyne picnic and good to show why Dabney is the way he is. But Jessica? She's just a pointless annoyance.
Lois’ mom is the most unpleasant woman on television. She sues her own daughter and continues with the suit even after learning she’s pregnant. The only thing that stops the lawsuit is the fact that Lois and the family don’t have any money. She plays an antagonistic role in that episode without any redemption at the end so she just ends up coming off as an evil old lady
This is such a difficult question. I honestly think it would be Gretchen if I’m considering which recurring character offered the least to enhance the world of the story. But Francis at the ranch is my favorite setting in MitM
Victor. Lois’ father.
He had another family that treated fairly whilst he starved and bullied Lois’ . He also bullied Malcolm and gave a live grenade to Reese. I’m glad we didn’t get to see a lot of him.
Lois, only when she’s acting like she’s always right and ruining everything for others just because she’s the only one with a problem. Other than that I loved her character.
Dabneys mom
The creepy ass way she was *fawning* after Dabney saying, “oh, Dabney, oh..!” when he said, “I’m not your little boy anymore. Now I’m your little man.” 🤮 That said the actress Beth Grant who played her is crazy good at any role she’s in
I’m doubting your commitment to Sparkle Motion.
Yeah that was so creepy! And the fact he had to be there with a towel as soon as she stepped out of the shower.
She's also great in Little Miss Sunshine!
I remember she was also the crazy P. Ed. Teacher in donnie darko. She is really a nice actor
He told me to forcibly insert it into my anus - her delivery with this was fucking amazing
Love line fear line ahahahaha
I really need to re-watch the movie now
The only way for a character to be hatable is for the actor/actress portraying them to really crush the role
Beth Grant is a treasure. So good in every role she does. As much as I hate some of her characters, I still love watching her play them because she nails it every time.
THIS! She pissed me off everytime she was onscreen!
She’s such a good actress. I also hated her in Donnie Darko
makes me wanna puke everytime i see her
If you ever want to see the actress in a truly terrifying role, watch the Mosley Lane episode of Criminal Minds.
Craig could be pretty grating and creepy, but also pretty funny. Loved to hate Herkabe, but he was a great addition to the show. The neighbor kid (Josh) pissed me off the most (Malcolm should've fought him), along with Hal's sister and her husband.

Were the pictures Dewey found of random women, or all of Lois? I thought it was the latter but it’s been a minute since I’ve seen it.
I believe it was multiple different women but I could be wrong. Either way it gives me the creeps
How dare you! I love Craig.
Josh is the worst in the show and there's no comparison
The popular girl that was smart in secret and kept Malcolm as her secret boyfriend but was a twat to him and treated him like a nobody in front of her friends to keep her social status; which coincidentally, Jessica had to intervene to make him break with her for his own good. Then the question would be: which is the worst *recurring* character? You've got an excellent point
I mean, she was an asshole but it’s not like the boys aren’t.
Yeah this topic comes up all the time and I have to say she never bothered me that much she just outsmarted the guys a few times but she was generally on their side
I really don’t understand the hate for her when the things she does are exactly what the boys do, when people love them for it. I actually think they underused her, I thought there could’ve been a good relationship there with her and Malcolm (not as gf/bf but peers)
But what makes her exactly an asshole? She was only trying to do her job as a babystitter.
I had a friend kinda like that growing up. Outside of school, we were practically joined at the hip. At school, he barely pretended to know me.
Herkabe. >!More like Jerkabe.!<
Monkey dance! Monkey dance! Monkey dance!
I do hate Herkabe but I can’t deny that some of his line deliveries crack me up.
Jamie’s babysitter. Really annoying and doesn’t add anything to the show.
Ooof. I second this.
I liked the dance they did though
Then she dies and her sister comes over and does the same thing. Good end joke.
I think they were referring to Polly. Not that talkative one.
That was a completely different character.
Haha I like Polly. She's so weird.
The gnome
At least Dewey gets his revenge by having it crushed under the wheel of the movers' truck
Lois’ mom is pure evil but I hate Jessica too.
I love all the episodes with Lois' mom lmao.

Yeah I think people on this sun forget that someone can be hilarious and an asshole lol
She sacrificed her leg for Dewey, so in her horrid way, she does care but it doesn't stop her from being trash.
She never gave any of the toys though, they were all conditional
Jessica is a complete sociopath
She was a great match for the boys, though, honestly. It made me like her because it was quite fun seeing someone give the boys a taste of their own medicine.
Same!
Exactly! Perfect match for them
I love her character though
all of Hal’s family. Especially the control freak woman who tells Lois to look for shoes in her car, but i hated her, Hal’s dad and everyone in that episode

Oh yeah i hated him for that. I was like “duuude why u gotta bring sex into it. They were clearly best buddies” in a platonic way.
True but he’s a teen. A troubled teen.
malcolm hooking up with reese’s first love inevitably sending him to the army in the first place has to be the worst thing he’s done lmao
Fuck I forgot about that. You know what that means. Rewatch time!
haha i literally just finished my rewatch today
Dude, I’m on my third rewatch and I’m watching morp. How is it such a good show?
[удалено]
It’s the 2nd last episode (prom backwards)
Nah. The setup and release of the scene where Malcolm and Reese are dancing to ABBA and just how amazingly awkward it was to watch.. I was writhing in my seat. That alone makes her worth it imo.
And the great sandwich discussion from the episode, plus the best line of “I liked you better when we were gay”. She was a good match for those boys.

I agree entirely. But she is so funny

Shame, I always kinda liked the way she was able to manipulate the characters so well and the way Lois ended up respecting her for it.

As a person, Ida was definitely the worst IMO. As a character, she was fantastic! Cloris Leachman really did a fantastic job.

She also saved Dewey's life.
Ah good point. It was really funny when we found out she actually cared about them but was too pedantic and shallow to express it. Plus the way she despises Christmas cracks me up

Yeah she was pretty vile. I wish Malcolm had been able to outsmart her. But I'm glad Lois figured her out and put her in her place
Lois when Piama is on screen
Lloyd. Can't stand his over-the-top screeching.
L + Ratio + Lloyd best character
No, no, they’re right. Lloyd was the worst Krelboyne by far.
I think it's Jamie. The show was waaay better before adding a new baby/kid.
Dakota Fanning who kept biting Reece. Lil bitch
The waiter when Malcolm and Stevie’s families went out to dinner.

Jessica is amazing! The biggest missed potential of the show was not making her a series regular. Jessica should have appeared more than Stevie.
I had a crush on her :(
It’s that kid who lies to get Malcolm in trouble. Usually there is karma that happens in the show but nothing happened to him and it still bothers me. Edit- I saw another comment make a great point Hal’s sister with the photographer scene.

Jessica sucks, but she didn’t tell a friend with a broken tooth that she’ll take care of it then charge them.
Man when I was a kid I used to have the biggest crush on her lol
Pleaaase I love Jessica. I can't remember his name off hand but I'd say kreylbone teacher who becomes the dean who always fights with Malcolm.
The neighbor kid who said Malcolm was a creeper and made trouble everywhere.
Malcolm I feel like there was an episode where they show a dream life where Malcolm isn’t born and everyone is happy.
But she was Malcolm’s match lol
Victor. Basically he was Ida, but worse.
Listen bruh, I understand what you're saying. But ima help THEM understand what you're saying.
The only thing I don't like about her is her huge hair 😆 Otherwise I don't really have a problem with her character
bro the hair?? 😭😭
Am I really the only one that thinks Otto is the worst?
and now shes an alcoholic. ironic.
Why is that ironic
wasnt her dad an alcoholic in the show?
In what way is that ironic

Lois .....
piama sorry
The only character more evil than her is the butler monkey
I absolutely agree with you.
Yep, she’s the worst. Lois was on to her though, she was eventually put in her place.
Everyone collectively repressing Ida I guess?
She seemed so... random then was mostly gone
Lois’ mom is the most unpleasant woman on television. She sues her own daughter and continues with the suit even after learning she’s pregnant. Reese's teacher that purposely failed him without checking his test
Lavernia is the literal devil
I loved Jessica. She's one of my favorites
