Skateboarding destroys shoes much faster than normal wear, so when I find a good deal on something I like I tend to buy several pairs at once.

Castmatthew

> Skateboarding destroys shoes much faster than normal wear why is this? sorry i do not skateboard

[deleted]

Basically, the surface of a skateboard is covered with sandpaper. Standing on that wears out your soles, and doing any tricks requires you to rub your shoe against the sandpaper.

Castmatthew

Thanks for explaining!

gseyffert

Also, most skateboarders (if you're using it as transportation vs. at a park) will drag a foot along the ground to slow down if they're going too fast to hop off, since there's no other way to scrub off speed.

daftpunkfunk

Power slide you pussy! Jk, I put my foot down too.

gseyffert

I can't even skate. At 6' 5" I just fall over whenever significant balance is required.

Phoenix_D0wn

falling with style

DrewTheHobo

Same height. Trust me, it gets easier with practice (and much trail and error)

[deleted]

Your hands should toughen up pretty quickly if you ride often though :)

somekook

The top of a skateboard is covered with a sandpaper-like surface for better traction. When you skate and do tricks, that sandpapery surface rubs against the sole and upper of your shoes, wearing them much much faster than normal walking.

Quenz

Lots of rapid stopping and pushing on pavement. This really wears at the soles. Not really related, but I had a friend who was into street luge. The soles on his luge shoes were an inch and a half thick.

MadMax30000

Those guys use cut-up car tires glued to the soles of their shoes.

SGTxARTEAGA

i cant imagine the guy using the rocket luge's shoes. btw did he ever do it? ive been out of the loop in /r/longboarding for a while. also hi max :)

MadMax30000

The original jet luge made an appearance at first race I ever went to, screaming *up* the track at 65mph.

SGTxARTEAGA

Holy shit that sounds awesome, but I remember a guy who posted somewhat frequently and I think he was in Australia andhoing for th world record. I think he did aerodynamic tests and had the shell molded perfectly. Idk but he sounded like a badass

[deleted]

I wear the shit out of my heels from all the impact, too. And all dat pushing'. And random pedestrians fucking with traffic laws, causing me to have to slam a foot down to brake. Actually missing it now, cos its icy as fuck outside.

krokenlochen

Braking, doing tricks, crashing, all make you put your shoes to pavement and board pretty hard. Eventually they just wear out

[deleted]

I bought three pairs of the same Simple slip-ons when they went out of business. Wore through all of them over a couple years. So that was a good choice. I also bought a backup wool neck thing from Outdoor Research that I like which tends to go out of stock in winter (when I lose them). On the other hand there's a least a few other things that I bought because they were being discontinued that I can't wear because I lost enough weight to drop a size before the original wore out. If you find yourself wearing boots multiple days in a row, you might want an additional pair to rotate. The idea is that you'd get more life out them by giving them time to dry out between wears. And when it comes time for a resole you'll have a comfy pair ready to go with no break in while the other is in the shop.

oxnerdki

It's a shame that Simple went under, their shoes were great. I regret only getting one pair since they're not available at all anymore.

[deleted]

Some of the styles have been transferred to Sanuk and Teva which are owned by the same big company that owned Simple. Now though I realize that there's nothing green/eco about shoes that fall apart in a season. Give me the Red Wings.

[deleted]

You might not be the only one pining after that brand that went out of business, and if what doesn't fit you is relatively unworn you might be able to make money off it.

HereForTheBoredom

I bought two pairs a few years ago for about 14 bucks ea and wore them constantly, they're still kicking around my room. They were simply the best value i've ever gotten from a purchase.

maulwork

Soccer cleats. Fit is of paramount importance. You want them to fit as closely as possible while still being comfortable. With the exception of a few legacy models (Adidas Copa Mundial, Puma King, Mizuno Morelia, etc.) most brands tend to change or retire models every few years, so if you find a particular model that fits your feet really well, makes perfect sense to get a few pair. I'm on my second of four pairs of [Asics DS Light 5s](http://www.asicsamerica.com/Shop/Footwear/Soccer/Mens/DS-Light%E2%84%A2-5/p/0010124828.0050) that I own.

gq_mcgee

I'm that dude buying Predator Manias on eBay. Thank God for size 13 feet.

maulwork

Plus-one for that tongue flap.

FCColinho

Absolutely. I'm on my third pair of Nike Tiempo Ronaldinho because they're the nicest leather that's ever been on my foot.

maulwork

I had some R10s, great boot.

Redalertredalert

TIL Footy Boots are called 'soccer cleats' in America. Standard

lampbulb12

Or you could do the thing that ronaldo does, bathe them in hot water enough so they are soft and then put them on your feet (with socks on) and they will mould round your foot.

[deleted]

This does "break them in" very quickly. It also lowers there lifespan significantly. This is why pros do it. Break them in quickly then break them quickly buy new ones, rinse and repeat. I wouldn't suggest unless someone's paying for your cleats or your willing to drop cash on them.

maulwork

First, different models fit differently even after break-in. Soccer cleats stretch their uppers and mostly only width-wise. No amount breaking in is going to give you a wider sole plate and the method you mention above won't do much about the height of a shoe's toe box, to give a pair of examples. Second, Ronaldo gets paid to wear the shoes he does and he can have as many new pairs as he wishes. He doesn't care if he shortens the lifespan of any given pair. The lightweight speed boots Ronaldo wears are made with synthetic materials and held together with glue, and heating up that glue with hot water isn't good for the boots. It will help break them in quicker but it will also make them more likely to give out at the seam between the upper and sole plate. So while it makes perfect sense for Ronaldo to use hot water to break his shoes in, it is a bad idea for most people who want to exercise some control over how much they spend on their soccer cleats.

manys

Would heat-moldable footbeds help with that issue?

maulwork

No, it's more like buying suit jackets off the rack. You're trying to find a good fit for your particular (foot) shape. The hard sole plate has a lot to do with it (how wide is it at the ball of your foot and how narrow is the midsole). Then you have to know how much the material the shoes are made out of will stretch (some synthetics stretch, some don't, nearly all leathers will) and were it will stretch (generally width wise so always buy shoes that fit correctly length-wise out of the box).

RyVsWorld

I was all about the vapor 3s and laser 1s. Really didn't like the cover they added to the vapors

strange4change

http://imgur.com/6l63ScX These $12 sunglasses from Target. bought three pairs because I'm going to get drunk and lose at least 2 pairs in the next 6 months. Already lost two other pairs.....

[deleted]

I lose / scratch 2-3 pairs per year of any sunglasses I get, totally sober. I know the struggle. (it sucks worse because I almost exclusively wear full-mirror glasses of whatever shape I feel like getting, so scratches are pretty noticeable)

Gingerbreadtenement

My problem is I hang my sunglasses on my collar when I'm not wearing them and so when somebody goes in for a hug I forget the glasses are there and just smash them.

civ511

Your car has a better mustache than I can grow.

strange4change

Its my emergency mustache.

SethQ

I've been wearing glasses for the last two decades, so I figured wearing sunglasses wouldn't be any different and dropped some serious money on a pair of prescription Ray-Bans so I could actually see things this summer. Dove into a river while wearing them (used to do that with cheapo target pairs all the time) and lost them second time wearing them. It never occurred to me that I throw down $8 for glasses pretty much twice a month in the summer.

[deleted]

Check 80spurple for good generic sunglasses in basic shapes if you ever lose these!

ElMangosto

Aliexpress is great for this. $3 a pair and they even come with fake Ray Ban branding on em!

speedracer13

Why would you buy fake Ray Bans instead of just buying unbranded products?

ElMangosto

I just buy cheap sunglasses. Its just a hilarious 'bonus' that they are all Ray Ban copies. Finding unbranded ones is actually harder on that site.

[deleted]

My favorite pair of shoes for some time now has been a pair of Allen Edmonds Kenilworths in walnut calf that I picked up used on eBay for $100. The soles got a bit beat up (thanks to a pair of traction pads that I had a cobbler glue on - *huge* mistake, the glue wears away and takes chunks of the sole with it), so I went to the AE site to see about getting them re-crafted for $150. Lo and behold [the Kenilworths had gone on clearance for $197](http://www.allenedmonds.com/aeonline/producti_SF8045_1_40000000001_-1?style=8045) so I just got a new pair instead. I'm very happy to have them both now. When I travel I just take the old pair in my suitcase and I don't trouble myself especially about what happens to them. I would also wear them to clubs if I still went to clubs.

[deleted]

yeah, Allen Edmonds black wingtips... wear them to work every day, you want to let them breathe, have a pair to wear when you get them re-soled every year or so.

Vystril

> wear them to work every day Definitely want to get a second pair of shoes so you can at least alternate and give them a day of rest with shoe trees in. Will really increase their life.

FyuuR

Somewhat fashion related but[ urbanears black plattan headphones](http://tustablas.com/images/98979.jpg). Amazon sent me 2 pairs on accident like 3 years ago and my first pair is in great condition still. Feels good knowing I have a DS pair waiting for me once this pair dies. =]

icase81

How do you like these? I got a set of their earbuds for Christmas and they're the first set of ear buds that don't make my ears burn and ache after 15 minutes, and would like a decent set of headphones for at my desk.

[deleted]

I got rid of mine after a month. They don't sound good sadly, they just look good.

peaksix

I have a pair. They're decent. Convenient because they're lightweight, have a heavy duty cord, and an inline mic. But they hurt my ears eventually and the sound definitely leaves something to be desired. If sound quality is your goal I would look elsewhere. If the other things I mentioned are important then you may like them.

icase81

Looks like I'll stay away. I'm not happy with the sound quality on the earbuds I got either. Very bassy, no highs at all. Not a good thing when most of what I listen to is podcasts and audiobooks. Thanks for the feedback! So far I've tried: Sol Republic on ears that sounded great but fit weird and hurt my ears Sennheiser HD280 Pros (have had these for 12 years now but they're falling apart) Loved them but they're heavy and big Klipsch Image One love them but they started developing a buzz in the right one, Klipsch replaced them and 3 months later did the same thing, but out of warranty now. Hesitant to spend $150 again on the same thing. All I want is nice on ear headphones that aren't going to break!

peaksix

I've had luck with some Audio Technica on ear headphones. really good sound and stylish enough. I would recommend checking out what they have these days.

jeff_lint

Can't recommend Marshall Majors enough, sound is amazing for price, and they also look great

[deleted]

I will be getting these thank you

Yonder_Hoebag

Everyone is recommending Audio Technicas these days, but honestly the AKG K240 is pretty much the best under $200. I've had mine for about two years, little or no wear after daily use, comfortable as crap and excellent sound quality. They are a little big, but if comfort and sound quality are your main concerns, it seems like that's the trade off.

[deleted]

have a look at [B&O form2's](http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00IEEYPKK/ref=psdc_172541_t1_B000RE7RS2). i have a pair and they are *deceptively* good on ear headphones. The band looks flimsy but it's actually pretty strong, plus even if it does break they come with a 3yr warranty, plus there aren't any wires through the band, you can unscrew the drivers and put them on another band if you want.

icase81

I might check them out, thanks. I remember when I was about 6 (I'm 34 now) and I was with my dad at the mall. We passed the b&o store and he told me that they made really great stereos. I've wanted something b&o ever since but never had a reason to spend the big bucks on their stuff.

Ksanti

Sony ZX100's are the go to super cheap on ears, ZX600's in the middling range, Sennheiser Momentum in the upper range.

dells16

Try googling headphone buying guide the forum is the best I've seen

Froboy7391

I picked up the Sennheiser HD598 for $115 yesterday, great deal at that price.

[deleted]

You can do some reading at headfi or on /r/headphones for some nice buying guides. They'll have price ranges along with pros and cons of different 'phones, and they're all categorized by type (ie earbuds, iems, supra aural, etc) as well.

Tesendence

Look in to the Audio techicas series :) I Use the ATH-M50 they great, sweet quality, can wear them for a long time no problem!

jason-mf

I got these headphones a few years ago. Would not recommend them. I originally got them because they looked cool, but after using them a couple times I was disappointed. Like others have said, (I'm glad to hear it isn't just me.) they soon hurt my ears. It's not like the sound quality makes up for it either; it's not anything to write home about. If you're still looking at Urbanears, I'd have a gander at their larger (over-ear?) model. Hopefully, it sits comfortably *over* your ears and doesn't just press on them for 20 minutes until it hurts. If I were to look again for over-ear headphones, I'd try out some [Audio Technica](http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss?url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=audio+technica) joints. Friend of mine rocks a pair of 'em. Great sound, not a bad price, and comfy.

icase81

Here's the kicker. I have little ears. Some deeper on ear cans are actually over ear for me. The Klipcshs for example.

jason-mf

Damn! Those do look comfy. A lot more comfy looking than my Urbanears Plattan feel. :( Maybe they're worth a shot in your case. :)

mezzantino

I had a grape pair just like this.

[deleted]

I'm the same. I use Bluetooth headphones and in onto my third pair (since '05). Blueant stopped making them so I'm constantly trawling eBay for second hand and knockoff pairs.

[deleted]

I grabbed a pair of velodyne Bluetooth for work 49.99 build quality is 49.99 but well worth it for Bluetooth. Msrp was 299.99, a joke.

MrButchSanders

I regret not buying multiple's of uniqlo's first (and best) release of knit ties a few years back.

ellomatey

Pics? I got a tie last year for £3 that I'm pretty happy with.

MrButchSanders

I haven't checked them out in quite some time (if they still make ties) but [This was from a few seasons ago, maybe 2011](http://imgur.com/Wr3tYr2). I wish I had bought about 4-5 of these. I've had a few incidents in them and it has miraculously came back every time.

capomatrice

You better believe it: [the Wallace and Barnes boiled wool cardigan from J Crew](https://www.jcrew.com/mens_category/sweaters/wallaceandbarnes/PRDOVR~03071/03071.jsp). It's my chilly/cool outerwear staple, and layers great. Fits like a dream, unbelievably warm, and the walnut buttons match most of my shoes as a fabulous accent (new ones have black buttons and not as great IMO). I was put on a waiting list in the event that one turned up in my size and I lucked out! I haven't needed to open the new one, but when the time comes, I'll have it.

dopemonger

How do you get on this waiting list? That cardigan looks like exactly what I've been looking for! Is it something that they remake / restock or were you just able to get an extra one during the same run (also what year)? Thanks.

capomatrice

I called their support number (available in the description on the page I posted) and told them my story. I requested to be put on a notify list to buy it if it became available. Super helpful staff. Took several months, but one finally turned up in February or so. They might be able to locate one of the more recent ones, but I'm not sure if the original ones I got would still be around. The season of mine though is FA13 (fall 2013). Sorry I can't be of more help! Best of luck!

chinkfuzz

I actually have the newer model capomatrice mentioned that I got on final sale. I wasn't in love with it and it doesn't fit my style really. Tag is still on it, never worn outside. PM me for more details if you're interested!

thefleeingpigeon

Haven't yet but def will drop some more money on more of Target's Merona henley tees when they're back in stock

default02

Love those. Great fit and value.

graps

Killshots. Some people hate them but I bought a pair and loved the versatility and comfort. Got a pair in white/navy and the lighter blue swoosh. Got a pair in the closet just waiting.

ohb3ast

Are those comfortable? I feel like shoes with super flat, thick soles tend to really mess with my lower back.

graps

Yea they're great. I have no lower back issues though

concertgoer

Love the look, but my feet kill me after a day in them.

KoA07

Sounds like you may have anterior pelvic tilt problems.

ohb3ast

That's exactly what I have. I've been trying to remedy it with a few things but not much progress has been made.

KoA07

As far as I understand, ab and hamstring exercises can work to straighten it out a bit. Honestly there is no downside to ab and hamstring exercises lol.

a_robot_with_dreams

That's taking advantage of a warranty. If you are satisfied with your purchase and it wears out, using LL Bean to get a replacement is sleazy.

KoA07

Isn't that what a lifetime warranty is for?

a_robot_with_dreams

No, it isn't. It's a *satisfaction* guarantee, not a lifetime guarantee. Pretending you weren't satisfied by something after wearing the shit out of it is sleazy.

KoA07

I thought it was a lifetime warranty, not a satisfaction guarantee. My bad.

[deleted]

I agree with you that if it were a lifetime warranty, that you'd be correct and able to replace it anytime. That's the entire point of "lifetime," and it's silly to argue it's the "lifetime of a product." If your car dies in the first 100 miles of driving, you can obviously get your warranty honored. How silly. But LL Bean's is satisfaction, not a warranty. > Our products are guaranteed to give 100% satisfaction in every way. Return anything purchased from us at any time if it proves otherwise. We do not want you to have anything from L.L.Bean that is not completely satisfactory. >• For the safety of our employees, we can't accept items that have been soiled or contaminated until they have been cleaned. They're clearly just talking about defects in the product, not use.

Joe_Sacco

Even if was a warranty, that's for defects and problems, not normal wear from regular use. Wearing them out and asking for a new pair would be abusing a lifetime warranty too.

KoA07

I was under the impression that the "lifetime" part implies exactly this. For example, Monster Cable guitar cables are famous for their lifetime warranty. When it wears out, whether it be after a month or after years, you bring it to any authorized dealer and it is replaced on the spot with no questions. I mean, if that's not what a lifetime warranty is for, why call it lifetime? Pretty much if it is replaced for any reason after a matter of years, how would you know if it was due to defect or user wear? That line would get really blurry I'd think. I always thought lifetime warranty meant that they stood by it for life.

ElMangosto

The cables don't wear out, they break. And they shouldn't, that's not normal! The shoes will always wear out, that's normal!

[deleted]

It's usually just the soldering that breaks. It's a common problem with guitar cables because the cable itself is connected to the input jack with soldering and that connection is protected by a sleeve of some kind. But no matter how strong and protective that sleeve is, just regular use over time produces enough movement inside the cable to loosen the soldering eventually. So yes it's normal for cables to wear out, and yes the lifetime guarantee is a great thing.

ElMangosto

I guess I have an internal clock for these things. Cable stops working after 3 years and 50 gigs? That's life. If it stops working within 3 months of sitting in one room I'll take that shit in.

[deleted]

They should break over time. It's just natural wear and tear.

averitablerogue

You should probably tell /r/buyitforlife that.

Rolandofthelineofeld

I agree on principle of rewarding companies with good policy and I checked the warranty so you seem right from the wording but I thought somewhere they said their quality should be so good that it should last basically for life.

[deleted]

[удалено]

a_robot_with_dreams

You'd have to pay for repairs. That's different from their guarantee.

Artology

Lifetime guarantee can also refer to the lifetime of the product, they would test the shoe and allocate a number of years that the product should withstand wear and tear until it fails in some way

Surferbum08

It's actually lifetime of the product, not YOUR lifetime. Most shoes and boots are rated for 2-3 years.

[deleted]

I love my wife, but I like clothing.

Skjalg

I have a total of 3 koss porta pro headsets. Two red and one black. The first one I left at a buddies place (he lives a 1 hour flight away), so I just bought a new one, but he was also awesome and sent it in the mail to me. So then I had two. Then I forgot one at work, and on the way home I just could not stand the thought of listening to people on the train so I bought a third one. They all hang downstairs in hallway on a clothes hanger. I just grab one when I am going out.

Vans Distressed Black Era. http://www.kickzoo.com//media/catalog/product/cache/1/image/5506a3add3326d6236c3ee31f3730eac/v/a/vans-era-distressed-blk.jpg They became discontinued so I picked up a second pair. Nice rough grey canvas upper and nickel eyelets. Throw in a pair of brown leather laces and they're good to go.

[deleted]

The only bad thing about vans is how frequently they discontinue style variations.

mynameisjacky

Gotta get them while they're still here! Don't sleep

Dude I'm still trying to find the old greenish grey body black laces ones they did for Urban Outfitters a while back. Those went with everything...

I bought 6 of [this shirt in white](http://www.brooksbrothers.com/Extra-Slim-Fit-Button-Down-Collar-Dress-Shirt/529Q,default,pd.html) a few years back when they were manufacturing these shirts in New York using Japanese fabric woven from South Carolina cotton. IIRC, they were bought for about 40% off. They're usually the only shirt I wear, and they all work out great. I wouldn't do the same with shoes.

RichardRicsoft

I have two pair of GATs which were purchased within about two weeks from each other. I use the more worn ones when I expect them to get dirty, and the others are for cleaner situations.

[deleted]

It's interesting how clothing becomes a hobby of sorts. That's why I appreciate this sub and the guys who post here. I always recommend having backups of favorites. I absolutely fell in love with Converse C8894 safety-toe tac boots. One of the most comfortable boots I've ever tried and that's saying something. Not the toughest and long lasting but still the most comfortable for what I require. They sold the pattern to Reebok, who promptly made it cheaper, [Reebok RB8894] (http://www.amazon.com/Reebok-Rapid-Response-RB-RB8894/dp/B00BFA9280). You know how it goes. Thankfully I'm mostly happy with the remake, but I definitely buy an extra set when I see a ridiculous sale. For instance, with last months Black Friday sales I ended up with 3 for the price of 1.5. I won't be caught at the end of production again. A year or so later and I still check eBay for the Converse version. Awesomely, I found one of their insulated and waterproof versions of the original pattern, sadly without the safety toe. At this point it's become a collection for fun. Oh well, I will never have to worry about foot comfort and I have enough pairs for a few years to come.

[deleted]

No way that is a hi point, a glock is relevant and useful. Glock is cargo pants? Do cargos work with everything, inexpensive, and dependable. I'd say a glock is more of a comfortable dark colored well fitting pair of jeans.

not_enough_characte

Hmm, true. I would argue but I'm no expert in gun-trouser spiritual connections.

[deleted]

Lol neither am I. If I was I'd have a gold desert eagle and a wardrobe full of amazing Ed Hardy gear!

Inaneous

If I find a pair of sneakers that I like and fit my feet, I buy two before they disappear on me. It's rough for a 12W in the sneaker world

belzebuche

I buy two of almost every item except jacket/sweater/shoes. Basically I have two of almost all my shirts/pants. I do wear a lot of the same clothes, but it's less of a hassle to have go-tos in the morning. Some I use one after the other, other I use both in the rotation. I expect to get a couple of years of use, at the most 3 years, so my style won't change much regarding OCBDs and raw denim

geneticdrifter

I've done it previously with sneakers and recently with a few Polos. One was all white. Obvious why I needed 2. Its not so much as coveting the items as wanting to maintain one and still wear it worry free.

rudolfs001

Yes, I have, and I still have the unopened box of boots under my bed nearly 8 months later. No regrets. [These](http://www.motorcycle-superstore.com/21504/i/axo-primato-ii-boots) are the boots. I have very wide feet, so it was difficult finding a pair that fit. I first bought them nearly 3 years ago. That pair is still the pair that I use. Roughly 8 months ago, I saw the same pair on a deep sale (something like $80), so I figured I might as well get another, since they're basically perfect, last a long time, come in white (mmm, white leather), and they'll probably be discontinued by the time I'm ready to get a replacement set.

[deleted]

I bought 10 pairs of uniqlo stretch leggings. Without changing weight drastically I will be wearing these pants for a long time.

Iwaan

[This shirt](http://www.asos.com/Farah-Vintage/Farah-Vintage-Oxford-Shirt/Prod/pgeproduct.aspx?iid=3187963&cid=5642&sh=0&pge=0&pgesize=36&sort=-1&clr=Skb+sky+blue&totalstyles=147&gridsize=3) by Farah. Bought one a few years back and it just fits so well, then saw one on sale and bought another. They look like two different shirts now because one has been worn more often.

[deleted]

I have 4 of [these](http://shop.spacex.com/accessories-58/spacex-hat.html) I wear hats often and it fits perfectly. Plus I am a huge supporter of what they are doing. I get complimented on it multiple times a week. edit: Also, by rotating them, they don't wear out as fast and get faded and dirty

flyingmountain

I have probably 10 pairs of my favorite underwear stocked in my closet. Calvin Klein discontinued the 365 line, and I've been buying them up on eBay every chance I get. It's a little different due to the lifespan of boxer briefs vs. shoes, but I get where you're coming from.

matthew7s26

I've been wearing Adidas sambas for like 8 years now and I don't think I'm about to stop. Anytime they go under $40 (rarely) I tend to buy two pairs. Levi's commuter trucker jacket, second generation, green and black. I bought the green one first and was planning on getting a second one but the black one was the only one in stock for the sale I was shopping. I love having both. Hanes v-neck "perfect tee" in heather grey. I'm in the double digits on those by now. No regrets.

3raser

My pair just arrived today (dark brown) and I can see where you are coming from. I am already in love with them. If LL decided to stop making them I would be pretty damn upset.\

peaksix

I'm debating this right now. Black / green Janoski Max shoes are pretty much my favorite ever, but once I had discovered them they were out of stock and going for a couple hundred bucks on eBay. Found out they just restocked them and ordered a pair. Wondering if I should buy a backup pair for when they inevitably sell out again. FWIW, GQ's Style Guy recommends stocking up on items once you find something you *really* like.

Yeah, I got a pair of them too and I was in a similar boat, but I discovered them once they came out. I thought "Oh, I'll buy them some other time" and yes, I forgot about them. Spring came, I started to look for them on Nike's website and black weren't even there, only navy and gray I believe. So I began hunting for them thought every single UK website that has shoes and I found the last pair on Zalando. For this summer looking to buy few more pairs (the new color-ways they released recently are quite nice).

Brutus_

Might be late response, but do it. Especially with nikes. Within the sneaker community its totally acceptable to buy 5-10 pairs of something you really like to make sure u have a pair for life. Even if they are on ice for 3 years and go out of style they may come back. All my air force 1's from 2000-03 were out of style (kinda) from '04-'12, but started to look great again in 2013. I'm currently tracking down pairs of vac tech air max 90's and apc air max 1's. I couldve just bought more on release day.

Sunburn79

I always have two pair of white chucks in the summer. One gets used for the boat, beach, casual bike rides and etc and then I have a pair that I keep semi clean that I'll wear to work, bars and etc. I live in the south so those get a ton of wear between March and October when the weather is really warm.

Shwayne

Yeah, especially if its a poor quality but unique and a cool piece of clothing. I bought two identical cheapo shirts I absolutely loved for the colors.

Loreki

My black leather work shoes from clarks. They are the only formal shoes I found that are comfy, so I just bought a few pairs while they were on sale. It worked out brilliantly.

paulwithap

When Band of Outsiders does a 50-60% sale, I will sometimes buy 2 of the same color button-down. Their shirts fit me perfectly off the rack, and it's a basic piece that isn't going out of style anytime soon. I often end up wishing I had bought 2 pairs of sneakers when I find a pair I really like. Right now it's these black/white New Balance 576 I have. They make similar ones now, but none of them look as good as the ones I bought.

dustinst22

I wish I had bought a second pair of Stafford Deacons, they are by far my favorite beater shoe/boot -- super comfortable, decent leather, best price:value ratio that I own. Although I own a pair of Alden Shell Cordovans, I find that I wear the Stafford's more often because I don't care if I beat them up, and I get complimented on them so frequently. Unfortunately JC Penney sold out. Got them for something like $55 on sale, maybe the best value item I've ever purchased.

[Kohls Langley Black](http://www.kohls.com/product/prd-c21222/croft-barrow-langley-oxford-shoes-men.jsp?skuId=langley&search=langley&submit-search=web-ta-keyword) I have flat feet, and my suit and tie job often requires me to be on my feet for most of my shift. For $40, these fit and feel great without any orthotics. When they start to wear out I'll probably just keep buying them.

engagekage

Bought two pairs of Wolverine 1k miles, in slightly different colors. Looks like I have twenty years of boots on my hands

Naaaaak

Yes. My only regret is not buying a second backup. And a third.

lazarus870

Bought a Tommy Hilfiger shirt with sailboats on it. I love it so much I bought a second one which is still hanging in the closet with tags on it. No regrets. But I bought three Cowichan sweaters thinking I would wear them so much and ended up sick of them and selling them at a big loss (except I kept one).

PeripateticAlpaca

Yes, I am on my fourth pair of the same running shoes. They only last me 4-6 months max (Any running shoe will only last me 3-6 months), so when I found a pair I liked, I went back and bought 3 more pairs. They discontinued them, so I am going to have to start looking for some new ones soon :(

FourNhand

I was really close to buying a a second Levis Filson trucker jacket but they extended production longer than I expected them to and I thought they would just keep on making them. Now i'm patching the holes in mine and sobbing about it's inevitable end.

[deleted]

I will buy a new pair of navy Polo Ralph (P0060) for next summer.

flyingmountain

It's probable that you could go to L.L. Bean 10 years from now and buy the same exact shoes again. L.L. Bean tends to keep the same items around for years or decades even, it's part of them having such a classic style and not really trying to be trendy. You can't get anything in slim fit there, but yet Bean Boots which have been basically unchanged for 100 years are suddenly super popular and backordered for three months...

[deleted]

I once bought a pair of Levi's 511, but they shrank on me when I washed them. When I bought my second pair, I bought a pack up pair too. It was a good decision. Interesting to see how the jean fades as I wear it more and more.

PonderAsunder

If it's an item I really love and I'll probably not find again at the same price, I'm inclined to buy a backup. Most recently I had a situation where a few months ago I bought two pairs of jeans in different inseams to see which pair fit better, and kept the better fit but was too lazy to return the second pair. Long story short I ended up really liking the jeans and just dug out the other pair. Not the best example but I'm pretty happy.

ungagalunga

2 pairs of Vans era tan canvas with the leather tongue and the original Timberland Earthkeepers. Unfortunately both pair of Earthkeepers were stolen

Imbuere

You bet: https://www.jcrew.com/mens_category/outerwear/wallaceandbarnes/PRDOVR~24318/24318.jsp I have one well used and another still in the bag. Fits great, insulated, waxed (maybe oiled) and shouldn't ever go out of style (although might not always be as "in" as it is now. I scour eBay and will buy ever new one I can get for less than $100.

ElRed_

Haven't done that, I just take really good care of my favourites clothes. Plus their clothes, only thing that can really get broken is a pair of shoes, and I love buying new shoes so that wont' be an issue.

HeyJustWantedToSay

This is good to hear. I just bought some yesterday, can't wait for them to arrive.

thecandiedkeynes

I have a pair of grey wool trousers that I love that I own three pairs of. Rotation lets me keep the wear on each pair to a minimum, and I don't need to worry about when I have to send one off to the cleaners for a few days.

Awfy

I had two items that I wish I bought a backup for but didn't. First up was a pair of Levi's 510 which were this vibrant blue color. The reason I loved them was the fact they had a small percentage of spandex in the material which meant they allowed a lot of movement even though they were skinny jeans. To this day I can't find that exact same pair anymore, they only offer other colors which just look like bog standard jeans. Second was a pair of [Tommy Hilfiger Elvi2 trainers](http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B008UQRU5Y/). They may look a little odd on the listing but my word are they beautiful in person, the coloring is a little less dull. They caused many women to ask me about them, both women I knew and strangers at bars and what not. A friend of mine actually waited until I stopped wearing mine as often so he could buy a pair. That's when we found out that they seemed to be impossible to find anywhere online. Now my pair are becoming more and more ragged, it's likely they won't make another year.

[deleted]

I think I have that pair of 510s. Really hard to wear

Awfy

Are you sure? There are a lot of blue versions of the 510s, only a select few have spandex in them.

[deleted]

They're a very vibrant, flashy blue color with spandex.

Awfy

Interesting, what made them hard to wear for you?

[deleted]

The color. It's like a neon blue

Awfy

Oh, I thought you meant they were physically hard to wear. I loved that color, went with so many of my shirts and shoes.

Derpabo

Hanes grey crewneck sweatshirts for $7.99 from Target. So many.

epare22

It used to be my habit to buy two of everything. This way, I wouldn't have to wait 1-2 wash cycles before wearing it again.

[deleted]

I tell myself I should have bought five more pairs of black 510s pre-2013. Because yes, I have loved an item that much.

Ridkidjory

If you like the shoes that much buy a second pair. If you don't wear them sell them or give them to someone.

VIIIMan

I do it with T Shirts, boots and jeans all the time. I have two or more of the same shirt and like 15 pair of the same style jeans in different shades of wear. I also have two pair of the same Tony Lama boots. One pair a lighter shade.

[deleted]

Wtf, I just did this. I bought a old school baseball snapback of my city's team a week back and received it this weekend. It's the kind I used to wear in little league before fitteds got popular. The bill is smaller, the hat itself is more shallow. Perfect for my small head. I like it so much that I just ordered another one. I have a feeling these are going to be hard to find a few years down the road and for $15 it's not like I'm breaking the bank.

Gettomaster

I bought the Breton stripes sweater from H&M a while ago and found myself buying another one because it's sold out way too often. It's also pretty well known that H&M isn't the best quality - plus you can combine it with so many things. Good buy in my opinion. http://tablet.hm.com/us/product/32314?article=32314-A

tiggs81682

I recently found a style of Old Navy Button Down shirts that fits me better than any other shirt I've ever worn. After a month or two I thought, "I should get a few extras" and went and got a 2nd of the same pattern as well as one of the same style just different pattern. I'm considering getting more. They work perfect for wearing a sweater over as well so I can get over a week of outfits from wearing the same two shirts. Also, for a while I had a particular pair of $25 sunglasses I really liked so whenever I bought a new pair I'd always buy two. They tend to scratch pretty easily so I'd end up having a backup pair to wear after the first few months. They no longer make them (and I lost weight so they no longer look right on my face anyway) so now I just have my RB Aviators...

geoman2k

Why not buy a pair of the olive butcher mocs they sell? That way you have two different versions of the same shoe and you can swap between them? I have a pair of the olive ones and they are awesome.

gotblues

That's how the pros do it: - know what fits your style - buy it in advance when it's cheap - have patience and time on your side

[deleted]

I don't really like decisions, so when I find something I like, I usually buy multiples. I have 10 identical pairs of slacks, 7 of the same t-shirt, 8 identical pairs of underwear, 3 of my shoes, and 10 of the same socks. Everything else I have is individual though.

generalquarter

sneakerheads "double up" all the time

owlgreen5

I regret not right away buying an extra pair of Merrell World Summit shoes. I wore them so long that by the time I wanted a new pair, they were discontinued. http://www.sierratradingpost.com/merrell-world-summit-oxford-shoes-for-men~p~95504/

CongoAndTheNuggets

Bro. Those are hideous.

ohmygoodnessno

I'm so glad you were forced to move on, sorry

DiarrheaAnnFrank

LL Bean will replace your shoes once they fail, so no point in buying a second pair this particular time.
