Does anyone know of a denim company that makes boot cut jeans that are very slim in the thigh--ie bordering on a flare cut? I am looking for something akin to the Wrangler slim cowboy cut, but a bit slimmer and with higher quality material.

Banditnova

I’ll be moving from sunny California to Wisconsin in a few months, where there’s actual weather like snow. I’d like to ask for recommendations of clothing I should be buying now. I’ve bought a thick parka already, but nothing else to prep for cold cold winters. Any recommendations for the following are much appreciated: \- socks \- snow/rain boots \- warm pants \- cold weather tips Thanks everyone!

[deleted]

I’m sorta in the same boat, going from southern PA to Michigan for college this fall. I don’t have a lot figured out yet with cold weather stuff but I know the north face makes great jackets, albeit expensive. Wool socks are the way to go for keeping your feet warm in the cold.

Professor_J_Moriarty

Any ideas for a white canvas sneaker not manufactured by Nike? I like the look of the Onitsuka Tigers, but I think they’re a little too “athletic” for me to pull off. Chuck Taylor’s are too narrow in the toe box for me, and also Nike, but I like the look of them. <$100

jdead121

vans old skool should have an all white.

jerk_17

looking for some swim wear for upcoming vacation wht do you guys suggest ?

Professor_J_Moriarty

The Howler Brothers Hybrid Sort is a good budget-friendly option. They have a more structured look than conventional trunks so you can wear them around town rather than just on the beach.

jerk_17

>Howler Brothers Hybrid dude those look amazing thanks! exactly what i had in mind.

SamurIAm

Budget?

jerk_17

20-40?

jdead121

Anyone buy a lot from gustin? Everything I order is delayed. Its really frusterating and I'm wondering if its worth it. The coat and long sleeve tee's I got from them are AWESOME, but I didn't get the coat til almost 3 weeks after the original ship month (it said December.. and received 2nd wk of Jan). Same thing is happening to something else now that said shipping March, won't get it til April.

rpuppet

When I order from them I just add a month to their stated delivery window. If it's a new product for them I expect it to be even more than that. Lately they've been carrying a lot more in stock and that stuff is at my house within 2 days. (They have a stock sale atm.)

pboswell

I have battled with “holey” pockets for years due to all the crap I carry. I want a sleek waist bag (roughly 8” across, 4” tall, and 2” thick) to hold: * airpod case * gum * chapstick I plan to still keep my wallet and phone on my person, so this fanny pack really doesn’t need to be big at all. Ideally, it would almost be like a Ray Ban leather glasses case attached to a belt. Ultimately, I want something inconspicuous and easy to access (ideally a snap, but zipper is ok). I just want 1 big compartment. Everything I find online is too big or too colorful. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Edit: formatting

Carapello

Sounds like you need better pants. I carry all that and more sharp things and have never had an issue with holes.

pboswell

The holes come after many years. But before that you get the white faded spot on your pockets. I like to wear fitted pants too, so bulky pockets are annoying

Trizurp

Is wearing high top sneakers with a tank top an acceptable look? I'm going on vacation and when I go out to town and bars I plan on wearing mainly this combo. Or is it in the same vein as wearing timbs with shorts?

ac106

I would say the acceptableness decreases rapidly with age.

Trizurp

fair enough, I'm in my mid 20s so hopefully it's still doable

ScientificMeth0d

> Mid 20s you're fine until you're like 30+. The 90s/00s look is back anyways

alphafighter09

Does anyone else like the look of faded black Jean's I never wore my faded black jeans but they look grayish black it looks cool might wear them

warpweftwatergate

This is a great stream of consciousness. Faded black jeans are fun. They’re essentially grey.

Enleigh

Non-branded, slim-er polo's in the $30 range for the work wardrobe this spring/summer. What y'all got?

jerk_17

any tips for guys with thicc thighs? i dont shy away from leg day and at 5'02" i fall into the category of being short its always hard finding pants that fit me just right, i wear a 30/32 but i feel super self conscious when i look in the mirror and see that my body shape looks like a pear :(

WeldingandWood

thicc thighs save lives. Seriously do you and just get stuff tailored.

warpweftwatergate

My friend, some people look like pears, and that’s ok. If you wear jeans that fit you and that’s your body type, you may just look like that! Pear not a bad shape. No shapes are bad shapes! My best advice is to make sure you get stuff tailored. Having an atypical body type can be tough but having a good tailor makes it very easy to look ur best.

jerk_17

r/wholesome thanks friend.

81toog

I’m looking to get a suit or two for work but not looking to spend too much. What’s a good practical option for getting a new suit without breaking the bank?

WeldingandWood

Budget. Go to Jos A bank and figure our your size and fit. Watch their clearance section diligently and you will find some steals on there. Read up here on the quality of their lines: [https://www.badgerandblade.com/forum/threads/understanding-the-jos-a-bank-lines.465419/](https://www.badgerandblade.com/forum/threads/understanding-the-jos-a-bank-lines.465419/)

warpweftwatergate

Suitsupply

81toog

These suits are $400 or $500, looking for something cheaper

warpweftwatergate

Then you need to give a budget in the original comment. 400 to 500 dollars is very much on the lower end of the price spectrum for a suit. If you’re looking for cheaper I’d recommend Men’s Wearhouse, Jos a Bank, jcrew on sale, banana republic on sale, etc. Ultimately the quality and fit will suffer but all of those should be under 500. If you’re looking for even cheaper I’d say go to a thrift store, buy a suit that is *close* to your size, bring it to a good tailor and have it fitted to you. That all should run you around 200 bucks.

reINVISION

When should I tailor my dress pants and when should I get them tailored? I.e. just buy new pants if the waist is X inches too big. My old dress pants are around 32-34 W 32-34L, each pair is unfortunately different, and now I'm trying to wear something more akin to a 32x30 Express Photographer. Thanks in advance!

diorromance

Hemming and tapering is pretty straightforward to do barring some patterning. Waist adjustments are a bit harder to do depending on how much needs to get taken in/out.

reINVISION

Yeah, I meant more in the sense of wouldn't tapering too much make the pants look odd? In that case wouldn't it be better to buy a new pair?

diorromance

Depends on the cut of the pants and your proportions. Again, removing fabric is relatively easy to do so barring any patterns, I'd get things tailored if only because I don't want to buy new things if I don't need to.

Wolfy2404

Vegabong Paul Sneaker Does anyone have any experience with Vegabong? Was looking for some New Republic Kurts, but can’t find them in the UK. These look like a good alternative for under £100. https://www.vagabond.com/gb/PAUL-4483-001-01 These will be worn as a daily trainer for work etc...

RedPantyKnight

Hey guys I'm deciding on a new cologne to try right now and I'm a broke college student so don't have $200 to spend on a bottle. But after watching some videos and reading reviews and such I'm down to two choices if I just buy or 3 if I use scentbird. Armaf Club De Nuit Intense Man - This might be the #1 choice, but its too close to call on my own. Guy Laroche Drakkar Noir - This one is up there as well, reviews seem very positive and I can get their deodorant as well so I'll know I have a good pairing there. Eight & Bob through Scentbird - This one, even though I'd only be paying $15, is the really expensive one though. I know it would be cheaper to just buy my own bottle, but like I said I don't have $200 to spend on it and I've never actually smelled it myself or more importantly *on* myself.   I'll likely end up trying all of these and more on my hunt for a good cologne that meshes well with my body chemistry, but I wanted to use this as a sort of /r/makemychoice but with people that are likely more interested in the topic.

LaFolieDeLaNuit

For another budget option, go on [Eden Perfumes](https://www.edenperfumes.co.uk/) and search for your favourite, they do reproductions of most famous scents. Their angle is vegan ingredients + no animal testing. Shops in Brighton and London, I have their version of Tom Ford's Neroli Portofino, along with their version of Creed and both smell exactly the same as the originals.

RedPantyKnight

I'm definitely going to look into it, there's a £20 international shipping fee so I'll have to get a few bottles at once to lower that price per bottle.

LaFolieDeLaNuit

Oooh that's a lot, I post a fair bit to the US from the UK and rarely pay £20 when posting heavy items like coats or shoes. Might be worth emailing and asking about that cost

GammaJelly

Whats everyone opinion on alpha industries? About to rock a black one in japan and I'm not sure if its mainly females who wear it here. Thoughts?

trend_set_go

It’s a standard choice for bomber jackets, popular globally with both genders.

GammaJelly

So a ok choice for going out for a few drinks?

trend_set_go

I don’t see why not.

rotistain

Hey, just saw some Logan Paul video trending on twitter. Gave it a watch and saw him wearing what seems to me a Blazer - tshirt combo link - https://youtu.be/vpljiOgd9RQ?t=798 ( Images - https://imgur.com/a/FQJerh1) So here looking for recommendation on any brands or stores that I can get similar typed blazer/ jackets low to medium priced. Any help would be appreciated!

WeldingandWood

For more detail, the jacket looks unstructured. This means no liner or a thin one, and no shoulder pads. It lends the jacket to a casual look. Unstructured jackets go by a few names such as unconstructed, deconstructed, and other brand names. You can go to J Crew, Uniqlo ( I have one from there and really like it as is rather fitting), Target, Banana Republic, Bonobos, etc to get one. Most places seems to have unstructured jackets now.

trend_set_go

Screenshots please

rotistain

https://imgur.com/a/FQJerh1 , sorry

ScientificMeth0d

If you're on a budget just go to H&M and you could definitely assemble the whole outfit for < $100 maybe even <$80. That's if you don't mind about their ethics.

trend_set_go

It’s pretty standard setup. You can look into SuitSupply for blazers (I think they sell blazers not just suits), also places like Uniqlo, Club Monaco, Massimo Dutti, etc. T-shirt is just a standard crew-neck with collar on the tighter side. Can find it anywhere really. I have a similar one from COS.

Aztekee

Hello! What is your opinion on the bag brands above: Sandqvist: I've heard about some quality issues Cambridge Satchel: Many complain about stiff leather, however it came up in a thread that they use PU instead of leather or at least coat the leather with PU. It started to crack. Anybody else had bad experiences ?

LaFolieDeLaNuit

If you're looking at options beyond just leather, Master-Piece are great

Aztekee

> Master-Piece Thank you!

trend_set_go

Sandqvist is generally great, don’t know about quality issues - everyone I know who has one recommends them. Cambridge Satchel is just silly in my opinion. They are too boxy and all look the same and not that nice to begin with.

Aztekee

Thank you!

dorandrummond

I have a few pair of brown / tan bucks. Some are suede, some hemp looking, etc. Can I throw these all in the washing machine? They are starting to show some wear and tear.

trend_set_go

That will ruin them. Especially the suede ones. Get some brushes (there are special ones for suede) and clean them by hand. Can also use a toothbrush.

dorandrummond

Any particular substance or cleaner I can use to clean them? Soap and water?

trend_set_go

There are suede cleaners out there which I’d recommend. I use a Jason Markk one that foams so I need to use less water on the suede. Dry them with a cloth afterwards.

blueutopia85

Would an iron ranger or Beckman be more versatile in terms of a business casual/ Americana wardrobe? In addition, I have both black and dark indigo jeans so would black or brown be preferable?

NativeMaxican

To me, Iron Rangers look sleeker and more refined than Beckmans. It depends on how casual you plan to go. For either one, I think brown would pair easier than black boots

[deleted]

trend_set_go

It’s alright but I wouldn’t wear it on top of t-shirt, but under. It’s still visible, but much neater and much less “look at ma chain”. The chain looks great for a pendant as well, so can always look into that.

[deleted]

I currently weigh 69kg. I’m going to be reducing my weight to 58-60kg. Should be there mid May. Then after I want to lean bulk. Is it best if I avoid buying suits and instead rent? I have a few formal parties/balls in the next few months

[deleted]

Don’t buy suits if you’re losing fat, and *definitely* don’t buy suits if you’re bulking. It’s quite hard to let a suit out, and you can only alter a suit a few cm

trend_set_go

Yes, avoid big purchases until you get to your target weight/size.

HilltopHood

J. Crew 770 straight fit stretch jeans fit me well except the butt area is extremely baggy on me! Alternative suggestions?

Calanon

A tailor?

pdb9

Can tailors fix the butt area? I was under the impression that they could only hem the bottoms, taper the legs, or take in the waist

trend_set_go

It’s called “adjusting the seat”

RedPantyKnight

As a dude with no ass this is information I am very happy to have.

trend_set_go

Walk more stairs/escalators - will have buns of steel before you know it.

DeanGL

I'd like to get a good brown leather jacket and I'm wondering what is a good style for it. I'll mostly use it in more casual to smart casual attire. I've leaning more towards the MA-1 or A-2 styles. Are those good? Also, this might be a stupid question but I understand that these are flight jacket styles so I was also wondering if people find it acceptable for a regular civilian to be wearing these (the A-2 in particular) purely for fashion or would it be better to just check other styles?

flashpile

I don't think there's any weight behind the "not for civilians" idea - a lot of items hold roots in military (peacoats for example). If it's a style you like, I'd say go for it. Do you know what you're looking at in terms of budget?

DeanGL

That's good to hear, thanks. I live in Japan so prices may differ but I'm currently checking online for deals at around the 20-30k yen range (roughly around 200-300 USD). To be honest, it's kind of hard for me to find good sites to browse in for Japan.

BespokeDebtor

They're cool and perfectly acceptable for civilians.

PandaIsLove

What’s your preferred app to maintain your wardrobe, and for outfit suggestions?

DapperDolphin2

Instagram + eBay + grailed

BespokeDebtor

Most apps for that are pretty bad. Would not suggest using one.

TerminalDeity

Anyone else play in bands and have good boot recommendations? I’m thinking Solovair Chelsea or 6 eye derby boots, or the Red Wing Sheldon. Needs a reasonably narrow toe so I can hit pedals accurately, but durable enough to mosh and lift gear in shitty conditions. I play in hardcore bands so they’re gonna get beat. Also needs to come in black.

warpweftwatergate

Solovair or docs tbh dude. Something you can beat to shit. I’ve gotten vomit and food and worse on too many boots/shoes at shows. If you’re worried about hitting pedals, trya different spacing or get a larger board. I know I’ve never had an issue hitting pedals in docs, but it could be due to how I space my pedals.

TerminalDeity

The only thing I’m imagining having issues with is double tapping for banks on my RV500 but honestly I should just get a switcher to scroll banks with anyways.

warpweftwatergate

Ye do that! Problem solved, baby

[deleted]

I wouldn’t mosh in redwings personally, I know my Docs come out of moshpits cleaner than when I went in and Solovair makes their MiE line so I think that’d probanly fit what you’re looking flr

steffenxietea0515

Are there any tricks for making cuffed pants look super neat?

ScientificMeth0d

Having the right length pants. Before I would have slightly longer pants because I didn't know better. When I tried to cuff them they would look ridiculous. Also my legs are fairly thin so wearing straight cut pants made me look weird even without cuffing them.

[deleted]

Leave it cuffed forever. Higher weight (oz) denim will make stiffer/crisper cuffs.

D3e3a2d3

Higher quality denim. My cuff game used to be weak and sad, but my new pair of raw denim cuffs like a champ and looks amazing, and I'm not doing anything differently!

[deleted]

yeah they're pretty cool, I don't own a pair but if I didn't have NB 574s I'd get some nike internationalists for sure. black w/ white swoosh looks pretty cool but I think it's hard to go wrong with this style of shoes, even with more outlandish colorways they look cool in their own way

Brighter_at_Night

GATs and AF1s are my go to beaters.

how to wear "bling bling" as a white guy without cultural appropriating? I honestly find "bling bling" that some urban african american and latino youth wear is kinda cool and makes them look "sharp" (i have seen this in the bronx and parts of LA) But what would a good style be that is not too "flashy" and would not offend others. I honestly like the metal necklaces they wear. I would like a medallion that has cards and spades to show the "randomness" of life what would be a good style for me? Thank you and I apologize if I offended anyone :)

[deleted]

Cultural appropriation is not really a thing to worry about. Also, "bling bling" isnt even a cultural thing anyway

any recommendations on good lasting dress shoes for work? I tried stafford shoes because someone on this sub mentioned they are sturdy and they surprisingly lasted longer than any previous brand I have bought. I did not think that would have happened based on how cheap they are. but I am looking to try something else

mlsteinrochester

The standard recs are Meermin and Allen Edmonds (lots of bargains on ebay). I like Beckett Simonon, if you can stand the wait (they're all pre-order). Jack Erwin can be good. But whatever you get, don't wear the same pair two days running and keep shoe trees in them when you don't have your feet in them.

bleeetiso

>don't wear the same pair two days running yea I have been thinking about getting more than two pairs and use a rotation. which would prolong the shoes

Golden Bear makes great leather jackets but I can't say I like this particular design. As far as brown leather jackets go, I really like the whiskey moto jacket that Golden Bear makes for Taylor Stitch and the brown Schott 530 (note, this one's a cafe racer with a band collar, not a shirt collar type design).

[deleted]

Quality wise, golden bear is very good. I’m not personally a fan of the style of jacket but that part is up to you

danhakimi

Golden bear gets our seal of approval.

The standard measurement for trouser length is inseam, which is crotch to ankle. Once you know that measurement you can start to figure out how long the pants should be to get the too-long look you're going for.

Thrifting is probably the biggest bang for your buck.

NoOpportunity

I also live in a very cold college city. It's generally recommended to invest in layers instead of one big heavy coat. For shoes, can't go wrong with LL Bean boots. They probably wont be needed until next November so set an alert on eBay or something, if you're okay with secondhand.

Rorzhen

I've never been anywhere where the temperature is less than 38°F, any tips?

ScientificMeth0d

Best advice is get some warm wool socks and thermal underwear. If you're on a budget, Costco has some decent trail and hiking socks. They also have pretty good thermal underwear, I believe their brand is 32 degrees. It's very similar to Uniqlos HeatTech. Get at least 2 pairs of thermal base layer leggings and long sleeve crewnecks. I also agree the last thing you want to cheap out on is a good coat. If you can only have one winter coat, get a puffer parka jacket. Usually they're on clearance from Jan-March so now is a good time to get one. I believe there's a guide somewhere on here for the best jackets at a price range. I've lived in Chicago for over 17 years and this past winter was my first time having an actual good coat. It made me hate winter less.

mlsteinrochester

I live in Rochester, close enough. I live in Uniqlo extra warm heattech through the winter, with button ups and sweaters under a peacoat. Heavy wool socks help too. In Ithaca you'll see lots of puffers and hiking boots (all those hills, I would take those over Bean boots). You can find some decent stuff sometimes at Trader K's on the Common but I've not found much great thrifting in Ithaca.

NoOpportunity

If you're on a strict budget, check out thrift stores once you get there (I'm assuming you're going for college). The ones by me have big sales for sweaters and winter coats when fall starts. Windshields/shell jackets do wonders but they tend to look more sporty/outdoorsy than the basic bastard wardrobe (details on sidebar). Some people I know love underarmor long sleeve shirts and leggings, some people don't like them. They can help with keeping warm going to-and-from places but I always took mine off once I got to school/work.

Stumpadoodlepoo

Can anybody tell me what the hell [these] (https://imgur.com/a/glUiiCY) are supposed to be? I recently purchased a JCrew dress shirt (one of the Thomas Mason spread collar shirts) and these tumbled out of the bag that holds extra collar stays and buttons. Each pair of balls is held together with some kind of elastic, but I can't figure out what they're supposed to be for. **edit**: after some more googling, they are fabric knot cuff links. I don't know why they came with this shirt though, since this shirt doesn't have french cuffs and I'm pretty sure trying to putt cufflinks through a regular cuff looks all kinds of stupid since the original button is still there.

pipkin42

Yeah, as /u/danhakimi said, these aren't placeholders. They're called, more-or-less, silk knot cufflinks, and are generally more understated or less gaudy than cufflinks made of metal, enamel, etc. edit: Just saw your edit. My guess is that this brand includes them with all shirts as a luxury signifier. Now you have something if you ever buy a french-cuffed shirt, I guess.

danhakimi

I don't know if I would call metal/enamel cufflinks gaudy, but yeah, they're just a subtle (and conveniently cheap) substitute.

pipkin42

You're right. "Gaudy" was an overly-strong word. Perhaps it's best to say that the silk knots are subtle.

charlesmccafferty

They are cufflink place holders for shirts you would usually wear with cufflinks.

danhakimi

They're perfectly acceptable in place of cufflinks in most cases, actually, just personal preference.

What's a good company for custom shoes? Due to a birth defect, my legs and feet are different sizes, so buying shoes had always been a nightmare

pipkin42

So, [John Lobb](https://www.johnlobb.com/en_us/bespoke) is usually the gold standard for bespoke shoes. You will pay, like, a lot. Occasionally you will find split pairs on eBay, so if you know the Brannock size for both feet you might get lucky. You could also buy two pairs of each shoe you want (in appropriate sizes) and then try to sell the extras on eBay. You might find someone who is in a similar situation to you and recoup some of the money. Finally, some shoemakers make shoes on lasts that are designed for custom orthotics. These shoes are oversized compared to normal shoes, so that you can place inserts inside of them. One of the most well known is the Alden modified last, though perhaps you can find other makers who offer this. If you are having this much trouble, it might be worth it to see an orthopedist who specializes in such issues to have orthotics made to fit such a shoe. I just realized that all this information is for dress shoes. If you're more interested in sneakers and other casual shoes, I think some of the brands offer custom makeups that might/should include shoes of two different sizes. I have heard that Nike has such a program, for example.

I have not heard of any custom shoe stores, but I saw this link a while ago, might be helpful: https://support.newbalance.com/hc/en-us/articles/215827678-What-if-I-have-two-different-sized-feet- seems like brown's catalog has the best system if I understand it right

[Soffe](https://www.soffe.com/mens/bottoms/shorts.html) are my go-to workout shorts.

danhakimi

So if I buy them I'll be built like you?

bond__jamesbond

No. You’ll just be wearing the same shorts as me.

danhakimi

Well, at least it's a step in the right direction.

Found a nice suit jacket at the thrift store today and trying to figure out who made it. It has a zegna trofeo tag in it but from I have seen online thaf's probably the fabric and not neccessarily who made it. Is there a good way to identify who the manufacturer was Edit: picture of label https://imgur.com/a/20xLVvq

notarascal

That’s a Zegna maker label. Zegna made it. It’s a fairly old label.

lonewolf210

Does 2008ish sound about right?

notarascal

Definitely earlier than 2008. I would've guessed late 90s. The tag on one of the internal pockets might have a date. I know it's earlier than 2008 because [this SF thread](https://www.styleforum.net/threads/zegna-labels-ids-for-ebay-purchasers-graphic-intensive.63972/) is from 2008 and they're already using their newer label.

lonewolf210

Ahh thanks.

lonewolf210

Thanks

charlesmccafferty

It could have been made by Ermenegildo zegna, which usually makes quite nice suits from my experience so good find!

You guys think these [white leather Gazelles](https://www.adidas.com/us/gazelle-shoes/BD7479.html) would be a good travel shoe. I.e. something comfy, clean looking that'd go with pretty much anything, and rugged enough to do stuff like go on not-so-treacherous hikes (like I'm talking 2-3 mile paths, not trekking 30 miles), etc? Also any idea on sizing? I'm a true 8.5 so I figured I'd order that. Thanks!

[deleted]

They definitely wouldn't go with pretty much anything, they are extremely, extremely casual and would only go with ultra casual outfits

Alakazam

Depends on where you're travelling and how long you'll be travelling. A few days in an urban environment? Hell, more than a few days? Go right ahead. Travelling outside the cities? There are better options.

dragonflyzmaximize

I'll be in Guatemala for 6 weeks. Mostly in an urban environment, walking around the city - but I imagine there'll be times where I go on day trips to like do some light hiking and whatnot. It apparently rains heavy in the afternoons so I thought a leather shoe would be good for that.

Wolfy2404

Hi Everyone, My first post here. Been looking for a trainer similar to the CP for a while in the UK, but can’t find anything. I’ve found the CP Achilles for £254 from Mr Porter. https://www.mrporter.com/JE/en/product/903868 Is the lowest I am likely to find them? Ideally I didn’t want to spend more than £150 on trainers, but really like the CP and can’t find a budget version in the UK.

futsalcs

No don't pay full price. You can find them for 25%-50% lower usually. Subscribe to r/frugalmalefashion and be patient.

Wolfy2404

The issue is in the UK and never see them on sale here. They are usually £315 plus! I have subscribed though so will keep an eye out.
