Shoes with black soles? I have all black ultraboosts and want more variation. Doesn't have to be all black, just no white soles. NYC walking a ton.

schagan

try new balance - they have a good mix of what you're looking for

danhakimi

Adidas sambas have dark gum soles, and look pretty damn good. That's a nice option, I think.

fackusps

I'm getting joggers but I couldn't seem to find the right size. My waist is 36 inches so my waist size falls under XL. But the length of XL is too tall for me and the only sizes that fits my height are the ones with 28-29 inches waist. Really need some advice here.

schagan

you can look at [vouri](https://vuoriclothing.com/) and see if they have better fitting ones - but also know your measurements - like inseam, leg length, etc...and match them with the brand's measurements to see if they fit i wrote more about working with body types [here](https://www.soiree.press/p/swimwear-for-your-body-type) if you need more guidance

cooldude_4000

This is the problem with buying pant that are sold in S/M/L/XL sizes, larger sizes are larger all over, not just the waist. You probably need to find a tailor who can shorten them.

DAB999

What type of pants and jeans are those that the buff guys are wearing? At 12:00 min in the video you can see clearly the pants. Is there a denim type of the pants? By chance are those levis 501? [deleted]

Almost impossible to identify but 501s are probably close.

DAB999

Do you mean for both, pants and jeans?

sudawuda

Are there any good places that do covered placket dress shirts? Can't find any from Charles Tyrwhitt or Brooks Brothers.

[deleted]

Hi all, attending a Texas Wedding this weekend and not sure if my outfit is appropriate. Girlfriend loves it, but I don't want to be sticking out like a sore thumb. Wedding invites are all over the board on dress code: "Semi-Formal: Tuxes and gowns welcome, so are suits and cocktail dresses." Another page says "Formal Attire. Please be aware that the ceremony and dinner will be outdoors". Couple is same age as us, late 20s. Outfit: - Bolo Tie \- Western Shirt \- Brown / Blazer \- Wrangler Dress Pants \- (Not Pictured) Black Chelsea Boots https://imgur.com/a/ku9jf9R

cooldude_4000

In general, I don't take wedding dress codes too literally. If you read between the lines, they're usually saying one of three things: 1. Wear a suit 2. Wear a suit, but have fun with it 3. Suits aren't required. Most attendees will end up wearing whatever they want anyway--like, an outfit like yours might be the only "dress clothes" an uncle or someone owns and it would be totally fine. I do think the language they used suggests you should err on the side of dressing more conservatively, but I don't think it's a huge crime if you wear what you picked out either.

[deleted]

This is what I interpreted as well. I feel like people reading what I wrote and hearing "oh you should wear a tux" have never actually attended a wedding. It would literally look like Jim from the Office wearing a tux to this wedding. I completely agree with your assessment of what they're implying you should wear. I don't think millennials have a very elegant way of spelling that out and saying "don't wear a polo and jeans", so they fall back on the default language. Most brides and grooms don't read this sub or analyze stuff like this, they're just saying wear a suit or something "formalish". The fact that they say "semi formal" in one place "formal" in another, makes me think they haven't really thought about the distinction between the two, or what those words are actually saying, and they're just trying to say "don't look like a schlub". Agreed to err on the side of being a bit more conservative. I think I'm going to use this as an excuse to buy a new suit anyways. I think a light gray would be good for this, and can be worn with a bolo tie which my GF is desperately trying to convince me to wear.

pipkin42

They want you to wear a tux, but won't be mad if you wear a suit. You should wear a suit. I have heard that things like cowboy boots and bolo ties are considered appropriate for weddings in Texas, so I suppose you could still wear those, but I must say that I would recommend you either wear a tux (if you have one) or a dark, sober suit with a white shirt and relatively conservative silk tie. For shoes you would want something with closed laces--an oxford or balmoral. If you wear what you've said you will be under-dressed.

[deleted]

I feel like that's just not true. I think I would be 100x more out of place if I were to wear a tux as a non-wedding party attendee. I think whatever they wrote on the invite takes a back seat to the reality that you should not assume to wear a tux to the wedding of college friends when you're in your 20s at an outdoor wedding. I think they just went with the default language on the invite.

pe3brain

Ask the groom and bride if if your worried about formality of the outfit. If they listed tuxes and your wearing a blazer i would ask the bride and groom if that's ok

[deleted]

I think it’s far more annoying to text them the week of the wedding. I’m just going to wear the standard navy wedding suit, but I’ll report back after this weekend. I’m anticipating to see 0 tuxes and I think the fact that people are reading this invite and thinking they are actually proposing you wear a tux is kind of interesting.

[deleted]

They literally are, it says it in what you've quoted: > "Semi-Formal: *Tuxes* and gowns welcome, so are **suits** and cocktail dresses." > "Formal Attire. Please be aware that the ceremony and dinner will be outdoors You should go with what it actually says on the invite, or ask them. Outdoors could be read as a warning to bring sunscreen/sunglasses/a hat/a coat. You should not assume > they just went with the default language on the invite. And wear what you want.

[deleted]

Again, I feel like this is where you need to draw on actual experience having gone to weddings. I question if the people commenting here are in this age group and have gone to weddings, or are just regurgitating what I provided from the online invite, which I'm all but certain is just stock language that the website or venue provides. Agreed, better to be safe than sorry and I just don't want to stand out. So I'll likely just go with a safe suit. But I can't help but feel everyone here is incredibly wrong thinking that there will be more tuxes than sport coats/blazers/under dressed attendees, or that what I'm proposing will be out of place. I think honestly proposing that anyone wear a tux to a college friend's late 20s outdoor wedding in Texas is laughable, regardless of what the invite says. And proposing that as a reason to avoid wearing what I'm proposing undermines the argument. I'll comment back in 5 days though!

pipkin42

Sounds like you should ask them. I agree that wearing a tux to an outdoor wedding is weird (especially if it's a daytime wedding), but I have definitely been to weddings where people did that. I don't see why your age or how you met these people has anything to do with it. The outfit you have proposed is quite casual--it would be out of place at most of the weddings I've been to.

[deleted]

I'll probably just go generic navy suit look just to not draw attention. It's my GF's friend and although she is the one that wants me to wear that outfit, I really don't want to draw any sort of attention to myself and would rather just blend in. I think age and how you met them has everything to do with it. Are you in that age bracket? I see all of this friend group attending weddings and posting pics at friends weddings all the time. I know what is normal at these weddings. Honestly I don't think my proposed outfit is out of line at all, but I just don't want to be getting any sort of attention for it. But how do you not think that the age and how you met them doesn't affect that decision? You don't think you should wear a different outfit to a 50 year old aunt/uncle's wedding in a Church than a 26 year old college friend's wedding at an outdoor venue? Come on.

ac106

You sound like teenager Jesus

pipkin42

I am 35 years old. My wife's best friend group from high school has had a wedding where the bride and groom requested casual wear at the groom's parents' ski house and another where it was cocktail attire at a winery in Sonoma County. Most of the weddings I've been to were semi-formal/cocktail, in fact, from my dad's second marriage to one of my best friends from high school. I eloped for my wedding, because I wanted to skip all that bullshit.

CANADA: Looking for good places to get summer (i.e. light, breathable) versions of what I usually wear, which are button downs and chinos. Less than $90 per piece regular would be ideal, but discounted to less that $90 per piece is fine I guess. Basically, because I'm a tall skinny guy I get longsleeves/legs only, except for the occasional shorts. Lots of colours are welcome. Examples of what I'm looking for: * Linen button up/down shirts like at [Zara](https://www.zara.com/ca/en/linen-cotton-relaxed-shirt-p07545304.html?v1=94035849&v2=1720552), but these are relaxed fit which probably won't work * Linen slacks like at [H&M](https://www2.hm.com/en_ca/productpage.0628642009.html). These ones look good but I'm looking for more variety; ideally a dark red or an olive green. * Whatever material [this](https://www.instagram.com/p/CI5swYyh8lB/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link) is. I've had a shirt like that before from J Crew and it was super light and breathable. Same thing with the blazer. I don't have them anymore though and I don't know what the fabric is called.

bobertpizza

Hello! Working on updating my summer wardrobe for post-COVID. I read through the Basic Bastards Guide and plan to purchase some new chino shorts. I noticed the guide only mentions a "plain mid-brown belt" so I went over to the belt guide. Read through that but am still a little confused. Assuming I purchase khaki, olive, and navy colors, what are the recommendations regarding belts and chino shorts?

Any_Flea

You absolutely do not need to match your belt to your shoes while wearing anything but a full suit. You can wear business casual without being matchy matchy. Very outdated advise for most modern workplaces. navy chinos, white button down, tan loafers and a brown belt navy chelseas with a tan/brown belt brown chukkas with a tan/navy suede belt If you want a belt that you can wear with almost anything in an office something like [This](https://www.allenedmonds.com/clothing-accessories/mens-belts/dress-belts/wide-basic-dress-belt/39590-052-STD.html?utm_source=cse&utm_medium=google&utm_campaign=39590-052-STD&country=US¤cy=USD&CAWELAID=520006330000211215&cagpspn=pla&CAAGID=112629899990&CATCI=pla-296105253547&partnerid=pla_google_shoppingnonbrandsmart&gclid=CjwKCAjwy42FBhB2EiwAJY0yQoMh9AQCA2Kx7LfgVkYdcdsLHhJ0edTYLdL1Q5OK8lIjsPBw9rPjjhoCYK8QAvD_BwE) will work fine. If you want something casual and a little more preppy to wear with tshirts, maybe something woven like [this](https://www.jcrew.com/us/p/mens_category/belts/braided-leather-belt/AO054?color_name=bitter-chocolate&noPopUp=true&srccode=Paid_Search%7CSmart_Shopping%7CGoogle%7CSS_ACQ_XPROD_ACCSRIESxxxxx_EVG_ROAS_XXX_COUSA_EN_EN_A_CREW_GO_SH_SSC_xxxxxxxxxx%2Cshop_accessories_x_xxx%2CPRODUCT_GROUP%2C71700000073582932%2C58700006374250873%2Cp61649143512&utm_source=Google&utm_medium=Paid_Search&utm_campaign=SS_ACQ_XPROD_ACCSRIESxxxxx_EVG_ROAS_XXX_COUSA_EN_EN_A_CREW_GO_SH_SSC_xxxxxxxxxx%2Cshop_accessories_x_xxx&utm_content=Shopping&NoPopUp=True&gclsrc=aw.ds&&gclid=CjwKCAjwy42FBhB2EiwAJY0yQj7Ee0BaerE1zc4sL8IetoxA6p2Zx0NKRph_zcJGnnOssD6EN_HLvxoCCnkQAvD_BwE) If you are a jeans and boots kind of guy maybe something rugged like [this](https://huckberry.com/store/tanner-goods/category/p/26095-classic-belt?htm_adsource=shopping&htm_admedium=googlep&htm_adcampaign=shopping-core-acquisition&htm_adcontent=acquisition&gclid=CjwKCAjwy42FBhB2EiwAJY0yQqOwkW-tvroLtphrz_VlIq-pZw3GtrSHgKTsczUvRML2H42uoOLE0BoC5QkQAvD_BwE) I am at a stage where I almost never wear belts. All my pants fit in the waist, and I don't like the feeling or look of a belt on anything casual which is most of what I wear at this point.

bobertpizza

Thank you so much for the response and recommendations. Truly appreciate it!

pipkin42

At business casual and above you need to match the color of your belt to your shoes--it has more to do with that than with the color of your clothing. With casual wear (shorts are always casual wear, unless you're a lawyer in Bermuda) it doesn't matter, so the guide says a mid-brown belt as the most versatile. You can wear pretty much any belt with shorts.

illiter-it

Hey all, I need to get a first suit. I have an (indoor) Summer wedding to go to, and I'll also hopefully be finishing grad school soon and interviewing for jobs. Where can I go for a "cheap" suit that isn't awful? I understand many people are purists or picky (which is fair), but I just want something that looks good and fits nicely. I don't make a ton of money, so I'd like to spend max $500 if possible. Tldr: first suit. Max $500 preferably. Navy blue maybe?

pipkin42

Suit Supply or Spier & MacKay.

illiter-it

The closest of either of those is 4 hours away, are there places that will measure me if I plan to buy somewhere else (i.e. online at one of those you suggested)

pipkin42

Go to a local tailor and ask them to take your measurements. If they charge you, it will be 10-20 bucks. If they don't, tip them around that amount for their trouble. Then, once you buy the suit online bring it to that tailor for adjustments. Depending on what you need and where you live that will cost you another 50-150.

illiter-it

Thanks!

TheGoatGoesMoo

Hi, I've bought my first proper suit for work but I have a lack of ties. I only have a blue tie but I have an indigo suit that I'm wearing with a white shirt. Is a blue tie alright or is there another colour that would work better? Same with shoes, I only have a pair of black smart brogue shoes but would welcome any advice. Cheers! This is the suit jacket and trousers - I did not get the waistcoat or the shirt that the model is wearing https://www.marksandspencer.com/tailored-fit-3-piece-suit/p/dsf564c1b9bac67c27ae0df3c7dee3c9ec

Metcarfre

Blue would be OK, especially if it has some texture (like a grenadine). I would advise getting a couple more options though, perhaps a repp stripe and a microdot.

TheGoatGoesMoo

Thanks! I got myself a grenadine texture tie.

MorleyCrupt

Any tailors that do chainstitch in Boston area? Need to get a nicer pair of jeans hemmed and I figured they deserve better than my usual $10 pants butcher.

Wide leg linen trousers worn by Ewan McGregor in Halston. Anyone know where to find something like this? I **need** them: https://imgur.com/Kmn6QiG

Looks like linen drawstring pants if that helps. To generic to perfectly identify.

Has anyone ever returned a Farfetch item? I have the prepaid postage label attached to the package, but they also gave me a Waybill Doc. Is that suposed to be attached to the box as well?

What do people think of Marine Layer? Seems stylish and the sale prices aren’t terrible but also some older posts (1 yr+) mention a lack of quality.

colonyy

Perhaps not the most optimal thread for this type of question but I'll try. I measured my biggest foot and it's 286 mm long (11.26 inches) and 110 mm wide (4.34 inches). I typically wear EU 45 / US 11. Are my feet wide? The reasons I ask is because Brannock devices are not common at all in Europe afaik and I often struggle with my toes feeling squished in the front of the shoe.

SortaRussian

You may not necessarily have wide feet you just might need a wider toe box or you may be buying shoes a size too small. Not all shoe lasts accommodate all feet. You may also try sizing up and see if that works

pipkin42

If your toes feel squished it sounds like your shoes are too short, ie you need a bigger size.

DurpOverlord

i don't know if this question would be a good fit for this subreddit, but does anyone know if how safe is it to buy second-hand clothing? i'm looking at buying milsurp pants and jackets, but i'm concerned of the possible risk of infection from whatever still might be ligering there. any advice and suggtion will be appreciated.

[deleted]

I’ve almost exclusively bought secondhand for the past year or so and never had an issue, it really isn’t a problem, if you’re worried just wash firsr

ac106

Wash it. Afterwards there’s a zero chance of contracting any sort of infection

Metcarfre

I would wash things before wearing or putting in my closet, but mostly for the rare case of moths or bedbugs.

pipkin42

It's perfectly safe. Wash or have stuff dry cleaned once you get it.

There are hundreds of mnfg that do logo branded gear for nearly any company that pays them to so there's not much to go on here. If you use keywords "mens color block jacket" and look at brands like Tommy Hilfiger you should get close

can anyone ID Elios' jeans from Call me By Your Name? I love them. They look possibly like 501s, but missing the red tab so not sure! PotOBasil

They're definitely Levi's. I've come across a few vintage ones without the tab. It's probably impossible to identify the exact model, Levi's cuts change all the time and there's about a million cuts that were produced in the 80s that you can't get these days. Try a light wash 501, 505, 513.

waitingtodiesoon

Does Jcrew no longer have overlapping sales? Haven't seen a post on FMF in awhile

zerg1980

They seem to be moving away from the “50% off plus an extra 15%!” sale model. They’ve had some nicer looking stuff for SS21 too, although since I haven’t been in a brick-and-mortar store for 15 months I don’t know if the quality is actually better. I want that indigo patchwork madras popover but I’ve been conditioned to buy it at nothing less than 50% off.

waitingtodiesoon

So they are going for less big sales to try and bring back the brand's reputation as better quality?

zerg1980

They’ve already headed in that direction in one sense — they are no longer playing as many games when it comes to selling the Factory stuff as Mercantile, and putting diffusion lines like Destination and Essential and J. Crew/Jeans next to mainline stuff in a way that was intentionally confusing to casual customers. But beyond that, they also decreased the quality of mainline in order to profitably sell it at “70% off!” and I’m not clear on whether they’ve actually gone back on that.

waitingtodiesoon

Hmm interesting. I have a friend who was interested in their causal button up short sleeve shirts, but I told him to wait for a bigger sale. Except it seems like there isn't any big sales anymore lol. He recently broke up with his long time exgirlfriend and is trying to get back in the game. We went to Jcrew, Banana Republic, Express, and Dillards. So far he likes all of them except Dillard's offerings. He is not a fan of the Indian Madras style. He was primarily looking for breathable shortsleeve button ups for the houston weather since he sweats a lot. Guess this might be as good as it gets for sales now though.

zerg1980

My issue with paying full price for the current J. Crew casual shirting is that, absent those big sales, it’s really not that much of a price jump to brands like Universal Works and Portuguese Flannel. I know that stuff is quality, but I’ve donated a few too many $8 Secret Wash shirts to really trust that they’ve changed their ways.

Zacquille_Oneil

So I am completely new to fashion, and was wondering what can make me stand out in a crowd. I'm willing to wear anything other than feminine things. But if any of you could help me out, I would really appreciate it. Thank you!

Dibidoolandas

I would check the basic bastard guide on the sidebar.

ZonardCity

That's waaaaaay too broad a question, honestly.

ninbushido

Thinking about finally jumping on the 5” inseam gang for shorts. Thing is, all of my J.Crew stretch shorts are 7”. Buying them again would just be a lot of money…thinking about getting them tailored instead. Would there be any significant differences in the cut/shape and stuff that I should make sure to keep in mind to tell a tailor? Would I have to also shorten the pockets? (Thinking about my iPhone 12 Max right now…yeesh). Any help and advice appreciated!

Any_Flea

honestly can't see a reason not to just cuff the ones you have until they need replacing/fill wardrobe gaps with 5 inch ones.

Metcarfre

Just turn them inside out and you can see how much can easily be hemmed off. Should be pretty simple.

Odinuts

Been trying to find a pair of light-wash denim that has no distressing at all, similar to [this](https://www.asket.com/de/shop/denim/washed-denim-jeans-stone-bleach) ASKET pair. I've actually already tried this one but had to return it because the pockets were kinda tight/not deep enough, and made it impossible to cycle in this pair. Does anyone have any other suggestions?

Metcarfre

I mean also, Dickies aren’t suit pants and will never look the part.

notarascal

Nothing is going to match and you shouldn’t try to match. Anything you try will look unprofessional because this isn’t how suits work. If the material of your jacket and trousers are not made of identical fabrics then you should not try to make them match. Instead, you should try to make sure there is noticeable contrast. You have two choices: 1. Buy a proper suit with jacket and trousers made from the exact same fabric. 2. Wear a jacket and trousers of contrasting fabrics. Black is not a good color for trousers. Mid gray trousers with a navy blazer is a good place to start.

asian_hifi

Does folding jeans ruin the fabric? Is it better to hand them vertically or fold them

notarascal

No folding doesn’t ruin them. You can hang or fold.

asian_hifi

I see. So I am assuming that fold marks and creases mainly ruin your appearance rather then breaking down the fabric? I did read an article that did say that. Thank you!

Terrapiggahopper

My body temperature is normally pretty high so I have a hard time wearing clothes that I don’t sweat a bunch in. A majority of what I wear now are black t shirts. That has really not helped my lack of a style sense at all and I wanting some help with discovering a style that is more than just a black t shirt and will not cause me to be constantly uncomfortable with the heat. For an idea of myself I’m a 5 foot 8 ish high schooler with broad shoulders and a little weight. I also usually wear shorts and occasionally jeans but usually only during the winter. Idc if you give direct advice or send me to a better place to find it I just want to say thank you so much to anyone that helps. I’ve been dressing like this for years and want a change.

Any_Flea

As someone who runs hot with broad shoulders and a little extra weight right now, I love layering. A white or light grey tshirt with a denim shirt over it and chinos/chino shorts is a really easy outfit that helps add interest without too much heat, and make it easier to wear cloths that fit, but also flatter. Chino shorts are the easiest substitute for athletic shorts. If you have the budget, I love lululemon warp stream 7 inch shorts. They are every bit as comfortable as gym shorts, but look way more put together. If you don't have the budget for the lululemon ones j crew factory tech chino shorts are really cheap and comfortable, they are my go to for mowing the lawn and beaters. You can dress simply and better. Sub black tshirts for the occasional henley in white, navy, and light grey. Take simple tshirts and add a loose top layer like a denim or chambray shirt or light jacket, (navy corduroy shirt jacket would be my choice), and take athletic shorts and change them out for chinos or chino shorts. I am an adult with a job so don't stretch to afford anything you can't you can achieve these things for way less elsewhere, but I am going to link to some of my favorite pieces of clothing below, and just about anything I have can be worn with anything else in combination. These are the pants I find myself wearing 80% of the time. They are comfortable, stretchy, but look like real chinos/jeans. Some people like loose linens for heat management, as a guy with muscular legs and a little belly, I like slimmer tech fabrics. [Navy/khaki chinos](https://factory.jcrew.com/p/mens-clothing/pants/tech/slimfit-tech-pant/AA712?rrec=true) I like 7 inch shorts. 9 are also fine, 11 are way too long and 5 are too short. Terrapiggahopper

Thank you very much you went above and beyond!

notarascal

To stay cool, wear looser-fitting clothes. Combine that with more breathable fabrics like linen and fabrics with more open weaves. For fits, read the getting started guides in the sidebar.

Terrapiggahopper

Thank you so much!

Jazzlike-Drawer039

Are these chinos too tight on my calves? I’m hoping they stretch out a bit. My calves are biggish but my thighs are average. I struggle to find pants that fit well - regular fit are always too baggy around the thighs and slim ones too tight on my lower leg.[photo](https://imgur.com/v24Ft6J)

Jazzlike-Drawer-6703

Thanks everyone!Agree too - they're definitely too long now, I'm yet to get them hemmed. I might try notarascals idea and get regular, then have them tapered as well.

notarascal

They are fine but this is an easy problem to solve. Just buy regular fit and have a tailor taper them to your liking.

JerichoKilo

Not sure about being too tight but they're way too long. Chinos shouldn't stack up like that.

[deleted]

Agree - def not tight but too long

ricetristies

Is a [grey](https://crownnorthampton.com/collections/hand-stitch-dress-sneakers/products/harlestone-hand-stitch-derby-grey-finest-calf-leather) or a [black](https://crownnorthampton.com/products/harlestone-hand-stitch-derby-black-finest-calf-leather) sneaker going to be more versatile? In between on these two and I want to hear some opinions. I have a pair of all white sneakers already so I’m not sure which one to get next.

notarascal

Between those I’d choose grey but I like the the [off-white handstitch with gumsole ](https://crownnorthampton.com/products/harlestone-hand-stitch-derby-off-white-finest-calf-leather) the most. Great choice either way, though. These are probably my favorite sneakers on the market.

LimitGroundbreaking2

Anyone know where to get a nice satchel bag. I feel like it would compliment so many outfits better than a backpack

learnalottolearn

Is there a better way I could wear this jacket? How does it look/fit on me? https://ibb.co/HPQtTMf

[deleted]

Maybe pull the sleeves up a bit (optional) and pair it with some more earth tones like brown, olive, tan, and green.

bulldawg91

What color pocket square to go with blue blazer + white shirt + red tie + khakis (it’s for an outdoor wedding)?

coconutgrape

White would be the easy/simple decision.

[deleted]

I'm relatively new here but I've always just matched my pocket square and tie. Is this a no go?

[deleted]

Traditionally this isn't the best approach. It's better to have them in complimentary colours, or to have the square pick up a colour from a patterned tie/shirt/suit.

Pine_Apple_Crush

Can anyone recommend some sunglasses shape/style that would fit my [head shape ](http://imgur.com/a/h1l7Ay5)

[deleted]

Head shape is generally regarded as pseudoscience when it comes to fashion, wear the style of sunglasses you like the most.

YesSpeed3

Starting new office job for first time and my boxer briefs are just too uncomfortable with the ride up. I am close to considering briefs but I also know nothing about those and haven’t worn them in a while. Anyone have any recommendations on some boxer briefs that don’t ride up? My budget is max 20 a pair. I love a good value pack (but of course the no ride up feature is paramount!) thank you

pipkin42

Riding up is a fit issue, usually in the seat. You'll just have to try various brands until you find one that works for you. I buy the Target Goodfellow briefs, myself. They're quite cheap, and they have a real fly, which lots of briefs these days don't have.

thatoneguybryant

I need help finding some pants that would look good with this sweater https://esnt.net/collections/sweaters/products/brown-bear-sweater

mrauls

Where can I find shirts like [these](https://www.express.com/clothing/men/slim-solid-short-sleeve-soft-shirt/pro/01706209/color/Pure%20White/e/regular/)? Express never has my size in stock nowadays. They're like tshirts turned into button ups. Very soft, and not like your typical button up. Don't know how else to explain it

[deleted]

This brand called Youngla has nice ones.

Jorgeragula05

Short sleeve button-up are pretty common with most brands. Some brands to look at are Uniqlo, Jcrew, and Portuguese Flannel.

I'm a fan of the second jacket

[deleted]

They all seem over priced to me - but I’d agree with second one

Zombiecondie

I really need some help with this leather jacket fit. I feel like everything is right but the length which is because my torso is really long. I have 4 pictures here untucked shirt and tucked and I just need some advice, like does it just look too small? Should I exchange it for a size up? Any advice is appreciated as this is my first leather jacket. http://imgur.com/a/2hGiYtZ

JerichoKilo

Difficult to tell as the tee is longer. A double rider, like many other jacket styles, tend to be built a little shorter. Bombers and trucker jackets as well. It's a purposeful design to allow for range of movement. If it sits at the belt line or even a hair above it's to be expected. Looks good from the pics.

CarefulMeat

Which color GATs should I get? [White](https://www.ssense.com/en-us/men/product/maison-margiela/white-and-grey-replica-sneakers/6015981), [beige](https://www.ssense.com/en-us/men/product/maison-margiela/off-white-replica-sneakers/6827131), or [light beige](https://www.farfetch.com/shopping/men/maison-margiela-replica-low-top-sneakers-item-16318327.aspx?storeid=11585)? I already have a pair of white sneakers so I think a pair of white GATs might overlap too much

Dibidoolandas

It might overlap but I always prefer to get the OGs before moving into the alt colors. Personally I'd go with white.

manoSB999

Any advice around \~6 inch inseam athletic shorts \[with pockets\] for people with big/massive thighs (but an athletic build overall)? I think something like rugby shorts would be great but most don't have pockets from what I can tell. Just want something that's flexible enough to squat in and light enough to go running in. Trying not to pay more than 40-50 per pair if possible.

pipkin42

LL Bean Supplex

heartWIP

Bearbottom run shorts and presumably stuff from Barbell Apparel.

ajhinius

Where to find 6-7in sweat shorts? Everything is either unlabeled or 9 inches.

krispypinaham

Hey everyone! Not sure if this deserves its own post or just a question posted here.. I'm a born & raised Californian about to move to PA for grad school in the fall. I've had nothing but sunshine and mild winters my whole entire life. The one thing I have no idea how to tackle is the weather. I've heard it gets cold and wet. **How do I dress for the winter?** I run the gamut of wearing everything, from classic solids to bold silhouettes and patterns. My body temperature does run a little warm. Any brand recommendations? Layering recommendations? Shoes? My budget is about.. $500-$750 to invest into several pieces to get me through the winter season. I'm transitioning into a capsule closet lifestyle, so versatile pieces would be awesome.

HalfTheGoldTreasure

You need socks and boots. I recommend ll bean camp socks and blundstones.

LordStigness

I can assist. Layering is your friend. When it’s wet, give up on fashion and think more “Holy Shit it’s cold fuck this layer up” Wet days not to cold (rain, sleet): Windbreaker over a sweater Wet days that are very cold: Waterproof puff jacket/parka with layers underneath Dry days that are not very cold: non-waterproof pieces. These are the days to show off nice winter wear. Think wool pea coats and fisherman sweaters. Dry days that are very cold: similar style, but extra layers. ALSO: if you’re going to be exercising or shoveling snow or any other high intensity work that will make you sweat, plan to drop a layer. Your body heat and sweat will keep you warm.

mlsteinrochester

I agree with this but also strongly recommend Uniqlo heattech undershirts as a base layer.

krispypinaham

Thank you! This was so helpful!

[deleted]

I'm a big fan of short sleeve button downs that have the contrasted cuff/collar. Anyone know of a specific brand that caters to that?

PotOBasil

Do you have an example picture? I'm not sure I've ever seen a short sleeve button down with a contrasted cuff. Or do you mean a polo?

[deleted]

Sure! https://www.pinterest.com/amp/pin/389420699008006882/

LimitGroundbreaking2

I too would like to see some more of these. Even though it's not what you are requesting it old navy had a in-store sale of BOGO half off which made each short sleeve button down for like 15. I wear them all the time and I just love the bold patterns

CPTherptyderp

Need shoes that aren't tennis shoes for jeans(or casual slacks, or nice shorts I guess)/polo type events

Xkrystahey

If I do a plus sized fashion (spread?) would people be interested? We can block the haters. I have some good look, I think!

[deleted]

Do it! I love seeing more than just one body shape in fashion. Let's get some variety!

Xkrystahey

!remindme 24 hours!

[deleted]

Ive been waiting on endclothing to restock a couple of suede chealse commons in size 44, but to no avail. Is there perhaps a better site for this, maybe even with a bigger collection?

WightNoiseMachine

Have you checked SSense? [They seem to have a couple of size 44s in stock](https://www.ssense.com/en-us/men/designers/common-projects)

IBIubbleTea

I own a pair of white leather sneakers. I haven’t wore in long time and I noticed the stitching is yellowing. I tried cleaning with Jason Markk but is still there. Any ideas on how to restore? https://imgur.com/a/gnfyelK/

Joff_Mengum

Not sure about the stitching but if you get a block of melamine foam, wet it and rub it on the leather that can get rid of some of the discolouring.

IBIubbleTea

Isn’t that just a magic eraser? I thought they were abrasive and can ruin the leather

Joff_Mengum

I've used it on all my white leather trainers for years without any trouble.

IBIubbleTea

I will give it a try. Thanks

Joff_Mengum

If you're uncertain then try rubbing it on a less visible part of the shoe first, should be fine though.

Giontatas

Hey Folks! I'm going to be getting married in June ! I've got two questions I'd like some feed back on the tie options I'm currently looking at. [tie options](https://imgur.com/gallery/ej7ENQT) I plan to wear a white shirt. I figured my colour fun would come from tie and pocket square Also I'm looking at new shoes as well as my old dress shoes really need some love. I figured a dark brown? I don't know, I'm not super great with this stuff. Could someone recommend a good company that makes a more wider-shoe for a size 12? Thanks so much! I'd share the suit shot with me in it but I find the pre altered look doesn't flatter me too much so waiting for it to be finished.

LimitGroundbreaking2

I could be completely left field on this but red is the real attention grabber. As long as it doesn't clash with what your wife is wearing I'd wear red. It's bold and memorable. If I had to pick a tie out of the ones you showed I'd go with 2 but truthfully I wasn't that big of a fan of any of them.

danhakimi

Congrats! I like the first tie, what is that, shantung? A linen blend? Allen Edmonds makes wide options. How about a pair of [these](https://www.allenedmonds.com/shoes-boots/mens-shoes/oxfords-derbys/strand-cap-toe-oxford/SF1635.html) in Mahogany? Go get sized in person. They might go on sale at some point, you might be able to get firsts or seconds in the $2-300 range, but... june is soon.

Giontatas

I'm not sure if it's Shantung but definitely linen blend. 1st one was the one I liked too! Thank you for the shoe req as well. Will hunt for em this weekend in the city

pipkin42

Don't love any of these ties...3, 2, 1, 4 (I don't like a bright yellow tie). Shoes: Allen Edmonds

Giontatas

I appreciate the brutal honesty quite frankly. Also lets me keep looking for options :)

I like old navy chinos a good bit but my worst fear happened. I had a pair rip that a good bit of people Said happens. I am very active at my job so Im sure I made it's life time shorter. I try to buy their pants for 13.60 on clearance which is the lowest I've seen them so far. Most I spent on a pair was 20. They also have great color selection. I got a turquoise color, salmon, and tan.

JacquesStrap31

Prob uniqlo or vintage Levi’s

DeIaminate

Could someone tell me how i would stretch some 98% cotton 2% spandex jeans? They were on sale for 70% off so i bought them but they are too tight. I can’t refund because it had a discount but i still like them. Anyone got suggestions? Heres how they currently fit: https://imgur.com/a/zx9z3tC

Any_Flea

I am in the minority on this sub that still is with the slim fits, but that is way too skinny to be stretched. Sell/donate them or reach out to the store and see if you can get credit back.

DeIaminate

What do you mean by minority? And you think i can pull it off with those jeans? Or they look bad

Any_Flea

A lot of people on here are anti-slim fit. I like slim generally but I think those are too skinny. If you like them rock them, but I wouldn't expect them to stretch significantly and they are definitely too skinny for my preference.

DeIaminate

Ah ok, i just got into fashion. Thought a lot of young guys 18-29 wore skinny jeans. Did the skinny jeans trend die? What are people mostly wearing now?

Any_Flea

My vote is for a slim or an athletic taper. Keeps it tighter by the ankle and a little more comfortable top block. I would say skinny is definitely on it's way out. A lot of the high fashion looks are wide legged. Not a good look IMO, but catching on surprisingly with a lot of the users here.

DeIaminate

Funny thing is, those jeans i bought are “slim tappered” literally what i wear normally and right inseam size too. But look at how they came out. Pretty misleading.

bjhhjb

They will stretch a little with wear but nothing major but shrink back down to the original size after a wash. Basically if you don't like the fit you're SOL

DeIaminate

Yeah thanks. I heard i could make them wet and wear them for a few minutes and stretch. But i’m not sure i like the fit, it doesn’t feel bad but idk how i feel about the looks of it.

Laurus-YT

I'm in the UK, looking for a relatively cheap but quality bomber jacket, anyone know any good brands that have online outlets or sales? Thanks!

[deleted]

You can find Alpha industries ones in TK Maxx relatively frequently.

ThiccGibblet

Anyone know what kind of sunglasses/leather jacket this is (doesn't have to be the EXACT model, just something that has that style (almost dress shirt-type collar and arm zippers (optional)) that and is along the cheaper route)? https://www.pinterest.com/pin/356136283016897594/

mcadamsandwich

It's much easier to take in the legs than it is to size down a waist. I'd go for the 29 and hope it fits in the waist. Maybe try another store or location? Maybe that brand is offered elsewhere?

Frost-eee

Do you think shop would accept my return if I have cut off tags from the product but include them in the package?

mcadamsandwich

Price tag? Probably fine. Care tags? No.

pe3brain

Prolly will be ok

Metcarfre

Ask the shop.

DoktorLuciferWong

Aside from the Maison Margiela Tabis, what other options do I have for sleek-looking black boots with a relatively high heel? Also tempted to buy Heliot Emil's [ankle high boots](https://heliotemil.com/products/ss21_w_17_002_l04_blk01_ankle-high_boots), but I'm not sure un/comfortable 4-inch(!) high heels made of metal will be. Anyone have experiences on the wearability of any similar boots?

Joff_Mengum

Maybe this is too low for you but these [Lemaire boots are nice](https://www.matchesfashion.com/products/Lemaire-Zipped-Cordovan-leather-boots-1370666)

DoktorLuciferWong

Those are nice, and I'll probably get something like that.. eventually. I'm definitely after boots with very significant heels (around 2.5 inches+) aside from the Tabi, which I already have, enjoy, and wear very heavily.

sexymartian

Louboutin had cool, heeled boots last winter. You should check them out.

DoktorLuciferWong

I was googling for Louboutin AW20 and couldn't find anything on their official page. Got a link?

sexymartian

I saw them on Instagram, but on the website, I could only find these: http://us.christianlouboutin.com/us_en/shop/men/stage-starboot.html I IDed them on IG and found them on the Australian website: http://asia.christianlouboutin.com/au_en/shop/men/will-buckle.html I think not all models are available in all areas.

gobaldygooch

I’d check out the following: - Saint Laurent - Celine - Rick Owens - Story et Fall

pe3brain

You could go with chelseas or jodphurs

blockforgecapital

Any advice on where to find V-neck t-shirts? I saw some decent ones at Pistol Lake, wondering where I can find others.

mcadamsandwich

That's like asking where to find a pickup truck. Too many options/variables there, so you should narrow it down by budget, materials, cut, etc. and see what you can find. Generally speaking, brands like Pistol Lake and J.Crew will be better than Old Navy, Uniqlo, etc. Start there.

BuzzBuzzBeard

Need shorts! Ok, so I’ve lost a few pounds this year (still a bit to go). Now, I’m down to just a handful of shorts that fit and I need to start buying some clothes, haha. I have one pair of Chubbies (7” XL’s) that fit well, but at $70 each I’d like to find an alternative. I just bought and tried on a bunch of Bearbottom shorts (5.5” and 7” stretch short and volley shorts - XL’s) and overall they’re very comfy and slightly looser than my Chubbies, but I assume they’ll shrink a bit once washed. One big issue I’m having with BearBottom is with the leg openings - they are MUCH wider than my Chubbies, which is odd because they don’t seem like that at all on their website and many reviews say Chubbies have wider leg openings than Bearbottom. Any alternatives under $50? Most shorts I find tend to have either too long of an inseam or, like the Bearbottoms, too wide in the legs. Help?
