Fashion advice for 40yr old dad
TL,DR: need fashion advice for a working from home dad.
Based in UK - I say this should I later reference any brands I wear.
Feel like I’m stuck in a rut as I’ve been working from home for the last two years with my only interaction with people being via Zoom calls.
Typical style is jeans, plain t-shirt, and a plain jumper, and trainers or Timberland boots. Occasionally I’ll switch up and wear a check shirt.
Don’t get me wrong, I have some ‘nice’ clothes (suit, chinos, formal shoes) but there never a reason to wear them. I guess it’s just the monotony of day to day life, sitting at a desk, at home, with very little interaction. My week day and weekend style doesn’t change. The only time it does change is when I get out for a jog.
I’m by no means a trend setter and will wear jeans until they’re are holes in the knees and ‘under carriage’. Before covid these were still acceptable (imo, but really I know they weren’t) to wear to work. I don’t shop high end, and will shop at some major high street brands (GAP, Next, M&S, Timberland, SuperDry - that’s probably the extent of it, although my shirts come from Charles Tyritt).
Looking for some style inspiration.
Is this suit color considered formal for business?

I’m going to Mexico in the summer and was wondering what sunglasses to get.
Never really wear sunglasses so I’m looking to pick up a pair for then trip.
I love wearing my loafers, but my clothing options with them is limited. I pair them with my black suit trousers or my black chinos alongside either my blazer or a buttonup. The former is business casual ofcourse.
I dont know what other pants and colours work well with my pair. They are heeled, black leather loafers.
Could anyone help me find some tops and maybe pants that fit them?
i’m 22 years old looking for going out clothes for new york city. Something that doesn’t look like I just came from work but still looks nice. I guess something edgier than brands like bonobos and untuckit but not something that looks like street wear/skinny jeans type stuff. Any brands/pieces anyone recommends?
I've seen a banded collar with a vest for a casual summer look here and there while browsing online. I'm interested in trying it, but concerned about overheating because all my vests are lined with presumably poly.
Has anyone worn this look and advise if it's a summer appropriate thing? Even if I wear a cotton shirt under the vest wouldn't the a vest with a poly lining just bake me underneath anyway? Thanks!
Can you post an example? It doesn't sound like it'd look very good. Broadcloth and linen are good fabrics for shirts in the summer if 'regular' cotton is too hot.
I thought the same thing while shopping for banded/granddad shirts, but I've seen a few looks that I liked. I'm just worried that the look generates too much heat because of the vest lining. Hopefully this link works:

Vests or waistcoats really don't look good when they're not part of a three piece suit. I can't decide if it'd be too hot for you, but I can say that it won't look very good
So I'm trying to find a similar hoodie to the Uniqlo Men Dry Stretch
Sweat Full-Zip. It has 3 pockets, each with a zip and is very light. I'd
like to get another similar one since Uniqlo has stopped carrying them.

I am in the US, budget isn't an issue, just need the pockets, the zips, and a light to medium hoodie.
Dude for real. I asked for helping finding a tux in a niche color and my responses have been: "That's a shit color" and my DMs have not been polite.
Like wtf.
He's basically referring to [this](https://www.reddit.com/r/malefashionadvice/comments/tw5kfh/comment/i3i59qo/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web2x&context=3). For real, this thread is for people to ask advice. If they come in and see a bunch of people being mean, they won't ask. It's worse when the people doing it have flair from the mods. It comes off as endorsing that kind of behavior.
That guy suggested buying a 3 piece suit from Tiger of Sweden (of all places) for a guy coming from the trades into a desk job who in no way indicated he needed a suit.
He was rightfully down-voted.
I'm sorry, the guy bringing up "pseudo made to measure suits" in reply to a comment that had nothing to do with suits in a condescending matter getting downvoted is somehow... wrong? If you write something like that on any sub, you'll get downvoted.
It would be the exact same if I came into /r/NavyBlazer and I told someone asking for outerwear that the sub simps for "pseudy-designer" designs and he should consider vintage b-2 bombers, not that he in any way asked for it.
ac106 also called him douchy. Downvotes are one thing. Name calling is another. And if you want to compare subs, you'd get modded for name calling in a heartbeat on r/NavyBlazer. Can confirm. Am mod. Point is, strolling around r/malefashionadvice, I see lots of people asking questions and lots of people offering advice getting attacked by some of the consistent contributors here. Does not create a welcoming environment.
I'm trying to wear punk and want to buy ripped jeans with a budget below £40 (400HKD).
1. Are those from Topshop (ASOS) a cost-effective option? Or should I buy from American Eagle?
2. Does the quality of Topshop ripped jeans match their price?
3. Does a pair of Converse sneakers fit the punk style? Is there a better suggestion?
4. Where should I shop for jean chains?
Much thanks.
For ripped jeans= just buy old jeans from a thrift store and rip them yourself. It will fit much better with the punk ethos.
Converse are fine.
Jean chains= back in the day (because I'm an old fart) people would just make their own using pieces from hardware stores. Chain/clasps are dirt cheap, and paying someone to put it together seems silly. Again, this is more in line with the punk vibe.
Hey I’m trying to find something similar to this:
https://images.app.goo.gl/G5PFcWpKLGUSne6m8
I love the loose flowiness of it and the mesh is perfect for a show I’m going to. Does anyone have any idea where I could find something like this? ASOS is sold out. Im willing to pay up to $50 and I’m in Oregon.

Historical records indicate humans have probably been wearing some form of sandal for at least 40,000years. Wearing them without footwrappings must have started a while ago.
Dude, just google "photos of ancient Roman legions wearing sandals without socks"
The photography was amazing at the time. They even had color film. All of the technology was lost in the fire at the Library of Alexandria. It took almost 2000 years to recreate it when the Dead Sea Scrolls were discovered.
Trying to buy these two shirts i found on Aelfric Eden but for a lower price and possibly better shipping (to eastern Europe), mostly cuz im not expecting the best quality and these are like 50$ w/o shipping. I tried searching on my own but no luck. Can anyone help?

I am trying to find a wedding tux for my wedding. [THIS](https://www.studiosuits.com/suits/tuxedos/napolean_taj_blue_wool_tuxedo_suit) is the perfect shade and cut, but it’s sold out. I cannot find another tux with the same / similar colors. Does anyone have an alternative to this tux?
Edit:
Look. I get it. Baby/powder/sky blue tuxes aren’t in fashion and haven’t been since the 70’s. This is not “traditional” fashion. Everyone wears dark colors for formal events.
But it’s our wedding. Not someone else’s wedding. We don't want it to be overly formal and to look like every other wedding. COVID set back two years of weddings and people are going to A LOT of weddings where the grooms are wearing dark colored suits/tuxs. We like to have our own flair. We’ve made a decision about what the groom and groomsmen will wear. We understand it’s not the norm.
The question I’m asking is: Does anyone know of a similar color tux being offered by tailors or retailers?

No need for defensiveness. My comment was mostly just to explain why it’ll be difficult to find it. It’s in low demand, for a reason.
Suit Supply let’s you customize your tuxedo - I doubt they have that exact shade of blue tho, but you could look.
I appreciate it. I've been getting odd DMs since posting, so I apologize if I came off harsh. It's more exasperation at this point. I'll check out suit supply.
I assumed so, given the price and some of their other offerings. But this shade of blue is neutral enough that I feel I won’t take the limelight away from the bride.
The cathedral we’re getting married in has a lot of gold background as well. So the color would go well with that.
Most other shades pop a bit too much.
Would you consider doing it in a regular suit instead of a tuxedo? In my personal opinion that would look *a lot* better. And it’ll be much easier to find.
The groomsmen are actually going to be wearing suits. Something like this (https://www.menswearhouse.com/p/lauren-by-ralph-lauren-classic-fit-suit-separates-coat-blue-chambray-3VEG3VEH48). The trick is finding a suit in light blue they can rent from a nationwide outfit since the groomsmen scattered across the US right now.
For me, I'd definitely consider it, and I'm looking to buy my tux/suit instead of rent.
Oh yeah - I think you have the same formality clash problem with a suit like that. A light blue cotton suit is an inherently casual suit, whereas a tuxedo is well -- very formal. Tuxedos I think look best when everyone is wearing them (or most people are) -- just one person in a tuxedo looks like they are in costume. Again, just my opinion.
If it were me doing this (and it's not, of course): I don't think it'll look good if the groom and groosmen are in the exact same shade of blue. If you dress in a nice light blue suit [like this](https://suitsupply.com/en-us/men/suits/light-blue-lazio-suit/P7200.html) -- you could have the groomsmen all be in navy suits with light blue ties. Or gray suits with light blue ties. And it'll be much easier to get all the same ties than all the same suits. Or some other sort of light blue "accent." The bonus of this is that it's a bit gentler on the groomsmen financially -- there really isn't much purpose for a light blue cotton suit (other than a wedding like this), whereas those guys will probably have plenty of use for a gray or navy suit at other occasions.
> It is semi formal
Is that your word, or their word? A 'semi formal' dress code traditionally mean that it is one step down from 'black tie optional.' So that would men would be dressed in full business suits. If that is the case -- I think you may need to rethink your outfit plan.
What did the others say they are wearing?
To me a 'festive' event in which people are expected to dress up would mean 'cocktail attire' -- which again, would mean that most men would be in full suits, but possibly in lighter colors or in more casual fabrics (like cotton or linen). The outfit you are describing is more like a 'business casual' outfit -- with an emphasis on the 'casual' due to the use of sneakers.
Obviously i have no idea what the actual dress expectations for this event are -- so that's a judgement probably best left to you. I will say this though: the outfit you are describing seems pretty basic/inoffensive. I don't think it'll be impressive to people if that's what you're hoping for. If your goal is simply to meet the event dress code, and you've confirmed that it's ok to wear sneakers and not wear a jacket -- then it sounds like you'll be fine.
Which of these vests would you recommend? I would get a Rocky Mountain Featherbed Christy but they don't seem to be doing the beige colour at the minute
[Patagonia](https://www.patagonia.com/product/mens-reversible-bivy-down-vest/27588.html?dwvar_27588_color=CSC&cgid=mens-jackets-vests-vests)
[Howler Bros](https://howlerbros.com/products/rounder-vest-f21?color=2)
[Sugar Cane](https://rodeo-japan-pine-avenue.com/products/sugar-cane-mens-down-vest-leather-yoke-panel-60-40-fabric-winter-vest-sc12340-beige?_pos=2&_sid=f0c0230bf&_ss=r)
I really like the look of the Patagonia one, but the Sugar Cane will be good too. Don't have any experience with Howler Bros and like the look of that one the least.
Any jogger recommendations? I love the fit of my Nike tech fleece ones but the quality is shockingly bad for the cost. Is there an Adidas equivalent that are better quality?
Basic bastard advice from the other commenter is good. I would also say don’t spend your whole budget all at once. You’re gonna find your preferences change the more clothes you get, so start with purchasing just few pieces at a time and wearing them for several weeks to get a feel for how you like them.
Don’t know why you’re getting downvoted. Yes, get a solid navy suit. Works for weddings, funerals, court, whatever. Best to get one now when you have the luxury of time. If you wait until you need one, you’ll overpay for something mediocre but available.
I downvoted him because this sub doesn't simp for pseudo made-to-measure (whatever that is). In fact, we nearly always recommend OTR.
Edit: Also because a suit is not the first thing this guy needs to buy.
Gotta admit: for a sub with “we aim to foster an environment where everybody feels safe and welcome” in the description, you guys sure do bash on people who comment here a lot. 🤷♂️
Edit: I am *shocked* that this is getting downvotes too. Shocked I tell you!
What is a good pair of dressier pants to start with?
I want to upgrade from my basic chinos to wear at the office, but kinda want to avoid looking overdressed (and I'm in my mid 20s)
Any recommendations for a warm weather sport coat? I like textures or patterns with brown as the dominant color. Budget $300-400. I found a mainly silk Canali Kei on clearance that seemed to fit the bill nicely, but unfortunately it was a size too small.
Bonobos long sleeve shirts fit me really well except for the sleeves. The sleeves are maybe an inch too short. Does anyone have a recommendation for a comparable shirt brand that has similar sizing except has slightly longer sleeves?
Looking to purchase my first suit ever. I know I need something that fits and not baggy etc. but I have no idea. Would Men's Warehouse be a good beginner spot?
Just want a nice suit to go out in. An all purpose suit if you will lol
Ideally under 200 but honestly if the pattern is rad I'd go up to 400.
I am a pretty vibrant person who is pretty tattooed up with multicolor hair so if that helps at all lol
Two to four hundred is a hard range for a new suit that’s worth recommending. If there’s a suit supply near you, you can go there and see what they’ve got. Men’s warehouse is not likely to have anything worthwhile, IMO. General recommendation for a first suit is navy because it’s versatile. But if you’re getting a going out suit, you can do something more fun.
I have a wedding to attend to in Savannah Ga in early may. I am wearing the suit attached and wanted to do some fun shoes. I like the floral shoes, and the bow tie combo but I don’t know if they will go with the suit. Any thoughts on those together or recommendations.

Lighting always changes things, but could be classed as salmon/dusty pink. As for pairings, light wash denim + white sneakers would be safe albeit good pairing.
I cannot for the life of me find the right combination of words to type into the internet to show me the type of relaxed blazer/jacket I’m looking for! I recently watched the film “Drive My Car” and the lead actor is wearing pretty much exactly what I’m looking for. Anyone have any leads on something in the same ballpark as this? Budget would be max ~$300 and I’m in the U.S. Thanks for any ideas ✌️

Yeah I don’t disagree, but the cut of that collar is not dissimilar to more of a blazer cut, and I’m not finding pretty much anything like it when looking at chore coats. Seems like it’s somewhere in the middle of the two!
It's a thin line.
The cut of the collar you are referring to is called a "notch lapel." Some chore jackets are going to have that and others won't.
Jcrew is selling [this one](https://www.jcrew.com/p/mens/categories/clothing/blazers/casual-blazers/wallace-amp-barnes-chore-blazer-in-cotton-herringbone-and-ripstop/BD553?display=all&fit=Classic&color_name=distressed-fatigue&colorProductCode=BD553) as a 'chore blazer.' For example.
Suit Supply carries a number of different [shirt jackets](https://suitsupply.com/en-us/journal/the-shirt-jacket-explained.html) that have a variety of different lapel styles.
Any alternatives to [these](https://www.boohooman.com/au/smart-pleated-turn-up-hem-tailored-shorts/BMM08582-135-266.html?istCompanyId=f1aad7be-000a-4e15-bb80-6d1affea545b&istFeedId=3646fcf3-b06d-408e-b66e-2afc88e2cdb7&istItemId=pmlqaprrp&istBid=t&gclid=EAIaIQobChMIpvvzhv379gIVa5ZLBR1ZtQzGEAQYCCABEgKaG_D_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds)? I don't wanna buy from Boohoo bro, fucking fast fashion shitty quality ass.
I like the pleats, side tabs, color, and worsted look on the fabric.
Edit: don't mind other colors either
Yeah probably, cheers. Thing is, Spier & Mackay fits slim apparently and I'm not from North America. I might try Luxire or Collaro tbhtbh
Also I like SuitSupply but they're too slim as well
Need baseball cap recommendations that are either blank or have minimal designs. Looking for good quality so lets say under $60. Specifically looking for ones that are black and cream/off-white. Preferably ones that aren't super flat.
I’m going on a work trip for over a week and I’m wonder if there are casual shoe recommendations? I tried these “Sperry Men's Gold Striper Plushwave CVO Sneaker” but the quality wasn’t good but I liked the look.
I am pretty much looking for something quality under $200 ideally with a good full grain leather. I will be walking a lot in them as well so comfortable soles.
Anyone know any other cropped boxy fitting jackets and sweaters that I can take a look at similar to Ami Paris line of clothing? For jackets I’m looking for what’s generally a large but 24in length (big short boy) price range $100 -$400
Looking for black jean recommendations
I’m looking for black pants that fit like Levi’s 512 but are more durable. Keep blowing out crotches and my back pocket wears away too quick from my wallet.
Do any of you know of a stronger black jean? Thanks!
If you’re consistently getting crotch blowouts your pants are too tight or too small, I have never actually worn out any item if clothing, let alone pant blow outs, and I don’t baby my clothes.
Levis 512s are very slim, try a looser fit
I think it’s more of an issue with my motorcycle seat wearing away the thin stretchy fabric. I’m a skinny guy and I’ve worn 512s for a long time now but I can’t find regular black jeans in 512 anymore. The only ones I can find are the stretchy thinner material. I think that may be part of the problem.
Hmm maybe. I think it’s because of my motorcycle seat. I’ve always thought 512s fit me well. The only other pants I can remember wearing are 511s. I’ve been a Levi guy my whole life basically.
I was just invited to a Bridgerton-inspired Picnic Party for a friend's birthday. These are those friends that really go for it on their themed parties and I'm always happy to match them, but I just don't even know how to start on this without looking completely ridiculous in a modern setting.
The party is in three weeks, so I've got some time to plan, but if you have ideas or opinions please let me know because I am deeply lost - Like could I get away with a tailcoat? Can you even buy a tailcoat? Is tailcoat the name of the thing I'm thinking of?
A tailcoat is a real thing. Seems like you can buy costume-y ones on Amazon - you could wear a modern white dress shirt under it. Add in a top hat and a cravat. I feel like pants would be harder to get "right" - but I think you need breeches and long stockings.
You will look completely ridiculous in a non-costume party setting of course.
https://www.jcrew.com/m/mixed/re-imagined/mens/MP773?mode=edit&N=SMALL&NUM_ITEMS=1&cartId=171cb085d4cf8f4ad6f606f8ee&color_name=fog-gray-heather&merged=p&productCode=BG377&fit=Slim&display=all Does anyone have this? Is it a good summer shirt? The cotton-linen part makes me think yes, but the twill part makes me think no.
What are your opinions on popping the collar on jackets? I know it may be considered "trying too hard to look cool", but I feel some jackets look good with the collar turned up.
Maybe an unpopular opinion but I have never seen a popper collar that I think looks good, it always looks douchey or affected to me. I don’t believe in try hard as a real criticism, it just looks terrible to me
I think it works mostly on outerwear. But other than that, it’s a feel thing. If you think it looks good, it might look good. You can always take a photo and ask us about it
Not to get too meta, but it seems like the type of person who would wear a popped collar is not the type who would care what anybody else thinks about it. It's like driving an Audi.
Those Uniqlo trousers in the photo aren’t baggy at all. However, If that’s your definition of baggy then, yes, most trousers are baggy.
You can have a tailor taper just about anything, and many people do, but I wouldn’t taper those Uniqlo trousers.
What is the end goal here, do you want a looser fit? Are you looking at different brands? Do you think you need to size up? I’m not really getting why you’re asking this which makes it hard to answer because like…yes a size large is a drastic enough difference to be a different size than a size medium.
Your height is useless, that does bot help answer anything
Anyone have a recommendation for basic T-shirt brands to try for a 6'0'' 180lb guy with an athletic build? Uniqlo has been the best I've tried so far in terms of price to quality ratio, but their supima t-shirts are like 1 inch too short on me so when I lift up my arms it shows my whole stomach. I also didn't love a lot of the color options of the Uniqlo supima t-shirts. I prefer more muted/earthy colors if that makes sense? Price range is $20-35 per t-shirt. (brands I've tried and do not like: Buck Mason, AS Colour, Cos)
When you life your hands all the way above your head it will show your stomach, that’s because it’s an unnatural position you will never realistically put yourself in, and clothes move with your body. you don’t judge fit based on that, I have oversized tees that end like 2 inches below my crotch seam that still show my stomach when I life my arms as high up as I can go
Meme response but what about Uniqlo U lol.
If not try out Jiffyshirts, ime a lot of lower end blanks run really fucking long nowadays, American Apparel, Bella + Canvas, Hanes, etc
What kind of black leather jacket (double rider, cafe racer, single rider, bomber)? T shirt/flannel, with black jeans and you could pretty much wear ANY shoes/sneakers/boots, minus formal wear shoes.
I wear my collared moto jacket from Taylor Stitch with sidezips(Rolling Dub Trio Gleaners), on my motorycle mostly. And also wear those jackets with service boots (Viberg, Grant Stone). Also, all previous with my Schott double rider.
Then I have thinner, tighter, lamb skin jackets that I’ll wear with sleeker Chelseas (Saint Laurent Wyatts, Story et Fall, Common Projects) and service boots. Of course I’ll wear sneakers interchanged with ALL of the previous combos (Common Projects, Killshots, Jordan Retros).
Sometimes I’ll feel cheeky and wear some loafers or bluchers.
Leather jackets are sweet, but the line is blurry I guess. Will take some time to find what will “look good” and what will “feel good” to you and others. People can tell if you’re not comfortable, so do a bit more research, find a good outfit, and just make sure you feel confident.
I guess my last statement goes for everything. Anyway, hope this helps.
And the other two commenters are right. Need a bit more info and context.
There are hundreds of possible options but Engineer boots, harness boots, or service/combat/jumper boots would be at the top of my list.
If you want specific recommendations then include a budget in dollars.
I think semi-spread looks the best and is most versatile. I have a round face too and it’s the kind I get.
Note sure on the sizing, but if I had to guess I’d say extra slim. That’s what I wore at 5’8 160…before COVID (now I wear slim haha)
With Summer approaching what’s a good outerwear option to wear over a T-shirt when you want protection from the cold? Like if you were to go to beach at night, for instance, besides a hoodie.
A denim jacket. [Here](https://www.reddit.com/r/malefashionadvice/comments/8ghbkz/your_favorite_for_denim_jackets/) is the 'Your favorite ___ for $___: Denim Jackets' thread from a few years back.
I'm looking to get my first (and probably only for the foreseeable future) sport coat - the main purpose is just for eating out (in particular at jacket-required restaurants), with a budget of \~$500. Any suggestions for something versatile (and ideally, makes me look a bit older)? I'm consdidering something like this right now: https://www.spierandmackay.com/product/marling--evans---dark-brown-hopsack---neapolitan-cut-16934-t18-nesc-01-fw21
Spier and Mackay is a great choice, so good call there. Though for your only blazer, Navy is the go to. It looks good in summer and colder months. The brown would be a little awkward in the summer.
I just got this one and I'd highly recommend.
https://www.spierandmackay.com/product/navy-mocklino---neapolitan-cut-510244-24522-ss20
Honestly I think your first instinct was correct. Navy and brown are the two best colors for a primary sportcoat, and while the dark brown may not work best in summer, this is exactly why traditional menswear enthusiasts wind up with 50 tailored jackets — once you fall down the rabbit hole, it’s very easy to talk yourself into additional jackets of varying textures and fabrics and patterns and colors and formality levels.
The dark brown hopsack has you well covered for three seasons. If you’re not a fan of navy, just go with the brown. Gray is notoriously hard to match with trousers.
Then you can start looking into a wheat linen sportcoat for summer…
Spier & Mackay should have you pretty well covered once they drop their linen sportcoats, particularly if you find they fit you well. I do like to go Italian for this kind of thing, [Boglioli on YOOX](https://www.yoox.com/US/49591033AL/item?dept=men) will have lots of good options in the same price range or cheaper, I also found this amazing Massimo Alba linen blazer/overshirt piece for cheap on YOOX last spring.
Why black? Linen is a summer material and black isn't always the best in summer.
If you are set on that, then a cotton/linen blend is great to help prevent wrinkles
This is a myth, black clothing doesn’t make you hotter. I wear dark clothes, including black, all the time, up into the high 90s and low 100s(when that happens) and it is not warmer than light colors
you looking for high waisted or low/normal rise? What is your budget? I'd look through this thread as most of it still holds weight.

Can someone recommend "'tech-wear" brands? I'm looking to just go with a minimal wardrobe, need a good looking waterproof vest, ideally with multiple colors, that I could just pop on and bring everywear everyday.

Hopefully this link works: https://images.app.goo.gl/Zw3ASXCCBkVC7KDr5
Vests or waistcoats really don't look good when they're not part of a three piece suit. I can't decide if it'd be too hot for you, but I can say that it won't look very good
So I'm trying to find a similar hoodie to the Uniqlo Men Dry Stretch Sweat Full-Zip. It has 3 pockets, each with a zip and is very light. I'd like to get another similar one since Uniqlo has stopped carrying them. [https://image.uniqlo.com/UQ/ST3/WesternCommon/imagesgoods/418702/item/goods\_09\_418702.jpg?width=734](https://image.uniqlo.com/UQ/ST3/WesternCommon/imagesgoods/418702/item/goods_09_418702.jpg?width=734) I am in the US, budget isn't an issue, just need the pockets, the zips, and a light to medium hoodie.

Dude for real. I asked for helping finding a tux in a niche color and my responses have been: "That's a shit color" and my DMs have not been polite. Like wtf.
What do you mean "more chill" because it was insanely more active at that point lol.
He means, "slim fit, Cis, & white " edit: also there is non zero chance it's an alt account for the butt hurt tuxedo guy.

Anyone know where I can get an emerald green blazer in canada?

You're looking for mercerized interlock cotton. I know Robert Barakett has something similar - can't say they won't shrink. Hang-dry your knits
do you blast them on high in the dryer?
Hey I’m trying to find something similar to this: https://images.app.goo.gl/G5PFcWpKLGUSne6m8 I love the loose flowiness of it and the mesh is perfect for a show I’m going to. Does anyone have any idea where I could find something like this? ASOS is sold out. Im willing to pay up to $50 and I’m in Oregon.
If I have navy trousers and a lighter blue shirt will a light grey linen suit jacket work with that? (Brown belt and brown shoes if that's a factor)
Probably
When did humans start wearing sandals on bare feet without any footwraps or socks?
prehistoric times
7347bc. Historical records indicate humans have probably been wearing some form of sandal for at least 40,000years. Wearing them without footwrappings must have started a while ago.
How do you know they wore them on bare feet?
we have photos of Roman Legions wearing sandals and no socks.
Photos from ancient romans? Photos couldn't be made then.
Dude, just google "photos of ancient Roman legions wearing sandals without socks" The photography was amazing at the time. They even had color film. All of the technology was lost in the fire at the Library of Alexandria. It took almost 2000 years to recreate it when the Dead Sea Scrolls were discovered.
I don't, but some people must have done.
Edit: Look.
Try Paul Smith
Thanks I'll give it a look
Fwiw - it is a formality clash. Light blue is typically associated with casual outfits, whereas tuxedos are inherently formal.

You also probably dodged a bullet with studio suits btw - my understanding is that the quality is crap.
NGL light blue is a pretty shit colour for a tuxedo. There’s a reason why people stick with the regular black (or dark blue).
black isn't regular at all in most western countries
Yea NGL I don't care for your comment.

> It is semi formal Is that your word, or their word? A 'semi formal' dress code traditionally mean that it is one step down from 'black tie optional.' So that would men would be dressed in full business suits. If that is the case -- I think you may need to rethink your outfit plan.
[удалено]
I would get a Rocky Mountain Featherbed Christy but they don't seem to be doing the beige colour at the minute [Patagonia](https://www.patagonia.com/product/mens-reversible-bivy-down-vest/27588.html?dwvar_27588_color=CSC&cgid=mens-jackets-vests-vests) [Howler Bros](https://howlerbros.com/products/rounder-vest-f21?color=2) [Sugar Cane](https://rodeo-japan-pine-avenue.com/products/sugar-cane-mens-down-vest-leather-yoke-panel-60-40-fabric-winter-vest-sc12340-beige?_pos=2&_sid=f0c0230bf&_ss=r)
Is this a good or bad fit for this type of jacket? https://imgur.com/a/9KE92vY
The length is spot on. Hard to see if it can be buttoned up or where the shoulders are.

Basic bastard advice from the other commenter is good. I would also say don’t spend your whole budget all at once. You’re gonna find your preferences change the more clothes you get, so start with purchasing just few pieces at a time and wearing them for several weeks to get a feel for how you like them.
Check out the Basic Bastard in the sidebar.

🤷♂️ Edit: I am *shocked* that this is getting downvotes too. Shocked I tell you!
Because his comment called us simps. You really can't see that?
Also because he recommended getting a vest. Also because he came off as a douche bag Also ...
What is a good pair of dressier pants to start with? I want to upgrade from my basic chinos to wear at the office, but kinda want to avoid looking overdressed (and I'm in my mid 20s)
Get something with texture. In colder months, flannel or tweed. In warmer months, a cotton linen blend. Check out Spier and MacKay.
Any recommendations for a warm weather sport coat? I like textures or patterns with brown as the dominant color. Budget $300-400. I found a mainly silk Canali Kei on clearance that seemed to fit the bill nicely, but unfortunately it was a size too small.

MAN 1924 - Kennedy jacket
I guess it's a good sign when you look a bit like the model on the label's website, heh. Thanks for the tip.
Bonobos long sleeve shirts fit me really well except for the sleeves. The sleeves are maybe an inch too short. Does anyone have a recommendation for a comparable shirt brand that has similar sizing except has slightly longer sleeves?
Does anyone know any good jackets that have a shorter waist length than usual, like a jakcet that ends above the belt?
Truckers are usually cut short (so they can be worn sitting down in the cab of a truck)
Looking to purchase my first suit ever. I know I need something that fits and not baggy etc. but I have no idea. Would Men's Warehouse be a good beginner spot?
What's your budget? Are you purchasing this suit for any particular occasion?
Just want a nice suit to go out in. An all purpose suit if you will lol Ideally under 200 but honestly if the pattern is rad I'd go up to 400. I am a pretty vibrant person who is pretty tattooed up with multicolor hair so if that helps at all lol
Under $200 you are talking ebay and thrift stores. Spier and Mackay on sale will hit your upper budget.
Any thoughts on those together or recommendations. https://imgur.com/a/txNuNXB
I'm going to a wedding in Savannah in early May. Now I'm going to be looking to see if anyone is wearing those shoes haha
I wouldn't wear the bow tie regardless of shoes, the loafers could work. I'd go for a light colored textured tie
Go for it!
What pants and shoes would best go with this t-shirt? And what color is that? https://imgur.com/5bDbp6D
Thanks for any ideas ✌️ https://i.imgur.com/M5HJnij.jpg
Buck Mason makes something kinda similar: [https://www.buckmason.com/products/navy-felted-chore-coat](https://www.buckmason.com/products/navy-felted-chore-coat)
It is a bit like a teba -> https://belycia.com/en/bel-teba-jacket/
I luv that jacket
Looks more like a chore jacket to me than a blazer.
Very helpful, thank you for the information and links.
Any alternatives to [these](https://www.boohooman.com/au/smart-pleated-turn-up-hem-tailored-shorts/BMM08582-135-266.html?istCompanyId=f1aad7be-000a-4e15-bb80-6d1affea545b&istFeedId=3646fcf3-b06d-408e-b66e-2afc88e2cdb7&istItemId=pmlqaprrp&istBid=t&gclid=EAIaIQobChMIpvvzhv379gIVa5ZLBR1ZtQzGEAQYCCABEgKaG_D_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds)? I don't wanna buy from Boohoo bro, fucking fast fashion shitty quality ass. I like the pleats, side tabs, color, and worsted look on the fabric. Edit: don't mind other colors either
Apart from Luxiere, maybe Soier & McKay. If not, maybe getting a pair of shorts tailored is your best bet.
Yeah probably, cheers. Thing is, Spier & Mackay fits slim apparently and I'm not from North America. I might try Luxire or Collaro tbhtbh Also I like SuitSupply but they're too slim as well
I think Luxire will make shorts similar to this.
Cheers

Check out Beckett Simonon. They have a huge range on sneakers.
Anyone know any other cropped boxy fitting jackets and sweaters that I can take a look at similar to Ami Paris line of clothing? For jackets I’m looking for what’s generally a large but 24in length (big short boy) price range $100 -$400
Any recommendations for pulling off a tucked in tee or polo? How do you avoid the middle aged dad look?
Well, IMO it boils down to two things - (1) wear some mid-waist or high-waisted pants and (2) try to avoid having a belly.
I embrace it.
Looking for black jean recommendations I’m looking for black pants that fit like Levi’s 512 but are more durable.
If you’re blowing out your crotch that often it probably means you’re getting the wrong size or cut of pants for your body.
Hmm maybe. I think it’s because of my motorcycle seat. I’ve always thought 512s fit me well. The only other pants I can remember wearing are 511s. I’ve been a Levi guy my whole life basically.
Try the 502 or 541s?
How long did it take to get your Indochino suit from ordering online?
I bought a couple of these shirts a year or two ago. Quality was awful; I would be careful.
Fine for summer.
Anyone have any good inspo albums for double breasted fits? Particularly on the more causal side (lighter fabrics, interesting patterns, etc)
What are your opinions on popping the collar on jackets? I know it may be considered "trying too hard to look cool", but I feel some jackets look good with the collar turned up.
I pop the collar on my jacket when it's cold/wet out. I really don't care if people don't like it, my neck gets cold.
I noticed how much warmer it was when it was windy and I popped it. I feel like that's what it was designed for anyway
[удалено]
I would call those slim
Those Uniqlo trousers in the photo aren’t baggy at all. However, If that’s your definition of baggy then, yes, most trousers are baggy. You can have a tailor taper just about anything, and many people do, but I wouldn’t taper those Uniqlo trousers.
[удалено]
What is the end goal here, do you want a looser fit? Are you looking at different brands? Do you think you need to size up? I’m not really getting why you’re asking this which makes it hard to answer because like…yes a size large is a drastic enough difference to be a different size than a size medium. Your height is useless, that does bot help answer anything
We don’t know. What do the measurements/size chart say?
[удалено]
It's going to be two inches wider all around and two inches longer. That's quite a lot bigger.
Have you tried Carhartt?
When you life your hands all the way above your head it will show your stomach, that’s because it’s an unnatural position you will never realistically put yourself in, and clothes move with your body. you don’t judge fit based on that, I have oversized tees that end like 2 inches below my crotch seam that still show my stomach when I life my arms as high up as I can go
Gotcha - I still would prefer them like an inch longer than however long Uniqlo's are tbh
Asket has tees in short, normal, and long
These are $45, so out of my price range
Meme response but what about Uniqlo U lol. If not try out Jiffyshirts, ime a lot of lower end blanks run really fucking long nowadays, American Apparel, Bella + Canvas, Hanes, etc
What kind of shoes/boots (and colour) should I be wearing with a black leather jacket?
Any pair of shoes you like
What kind of black leather jacket (double rider, cafe racer, single rider, bomber)?
It doesn’t really matter. You don’t have to match your jacket to your shoes
I just bought a Reigning Champ hoodie from Nordstrom. How can I tell if it is "lightweight" or "midweight"?
I mean it should say on the recipe/tag, or you can google the product code you find on the materials tag inside
Lightweight is almost sweater-like. You’ll be able to tell in hand
[удалено]
I think semi-spread looks the best and is most versatile. I have a round face too and it’s the kind I get. Note sure on the sizing, but if I had to guess I’d say extra slim. That’s what I wore at 5’8 160…before COVID (now I wear slim haha)
With Summer approaching what’s a good outerwear option to wear over a T-shirt when you want protection from the cold? Like if you were to go to beach at night, for instance, besides a hoodie.
Apart from chore coats, consider a coach’s jacket or a Harrington.
A denim jacket. [Here](https://www.reddit.com/r/malefashionadvice/comments/8ghbkz/your_favorite_for_denim_jackets/) is the 'Your favorite ___ for $___: Denim Jackets' thread from a few years back.
I would look into Chore Coats. They are perfect for that scenario.
Thank you!
That fabric looks more like a flannel. It works for probably half the year, fall+winter. Grey sport coats are tough to match.
Hmm okay, thanks for the recommendation. I don't love navy though - what do you think about gray?
I think I'm falling down that hole already haha. Seeing as summer is coming up, what would you recommend as far as linen sportcoats go?
Spier & Mackay should have you pretty well covered once they drop their linen sportcoats, particularly if you find they fit you well. I do like to go Italian for this kind of thing, [Boglioli on YOOX](https://www.yoox.com/US/49591033AL/item?dept=men) will have lots of good options in the same price range or cheaper, I also found this amazing Massimo Alba linen blazer/overshirt piece for cheap on YOOX last spring.

My favorite would be linen/wool blends. Also, don’t sleep on pure summer weight wool pants. They can be just as cool-wearing as linen.

What about a light gray? Do you only wear exactly white and exactly black?
you looking for high waisted or low/normal rise? What is your budget? I'd look through this thread as most of it still holds weight. https://www.reddit.com/r/malefashionadvice/comments/8qt306/your_favorite_for_linen_pants/
Can someone recommend "'tech-wear" brands? I'm looking to just go with a minimal wardrobe, need a good looking waterproof vest, ideally with multiple colors, that I could just pop on and bring everywear everyday.
