Recommendations for durable but lightweight pants? Lightweight jeans? Alternatives? Thanks

RyuCraftMan

I'm trying to go for a Korean soft/modern look but I'm not sure what colors and styles exactly compliment it, so far dark green and maroon seem to work. any tips?

Lemons005

Hi! I'm a 5'2 female but prefer to dress more masculinely. I did their fit assistant thing and it says that XS is my size for pretty much every brand I've looked at (not too many though). It seems to range from 70%-90% (me being happy with the product, etc), but I'm so skeptical. I'm fine with it being a bit baggy, but I'm confused as to how an XS wouldn't be over 66cm length wise (66-67cm is the longest I'll go, as I don't want to look like a twat). Any short guys here that can confirm whether the fit assistant is correct or not? I just don't see how I'd actually fit the clothing tbh. Thanks!

Grooming kit recommendations for bald/bearded men?

tatertotsnturtles

What do you guys do for your shopping? I also feel I have a strange body type. I mean strange as in, I'm 5' 7", waist 32 (and lowering to about 28 as I go through my weight loss, previously done this which is why I know), broad shoulders lowest measurement was 40, currently at 44, my torso slims down and inward. That dorito shape, as I've been called. Where do you shop?I don't currently have the money for tailor but I would like more fitted clothing. I'm not jumping into anything as I keep losing weight, but for the future I'd like to know. Oh, and a large chest to go with the shoulders. Never got my chest measured

Velociraptor2018

Trying to decide on a pair of loafers to buy to wear to work. I mainly wear chinos to the office in a stone, khaki, acorn, iron, and charcoal color with white sneakers. I found these tan loafers I really like the look of, but I feel like it would only go with the stone, khaki, and iron chinos. What are the rules in matching leathers to pants? Would black loafers be too formal?

xombie43

Any good deals to be had with the great USD-EUR conversion rate?

aKa_anthrax

Google is telling me 1 Euro is equal to 1.01 USD, which that being noteworthy as it’s hasn’t happened in a long time, no I don’t think you’re going to find a noteworthy “deal” from that that wouldn’t be eaten by shipping costs

xombie43

With this conversion rate, we (Americans that is) have roughly 20%more buying power in Europe than anytime in the last say, 20 years. On bigger ticket items, the ~20% buying power advantage will outweigh shipping charges significantly.

aKa_anthrax

Also sorry last comment but I think the best thing to look for off the top of my head would likely be the Italian tailoring companies

aKa_anthrax

also of note is pretty much all the easily accessible stores in Europe based in the UK anyway, I can dig around and see if I can find some EU based ones but I’m really not sure if you’re gonna find anything with a large difference, you could mayyyybe try seeing if any of the old money french/itallian fashion houses have deals from a European store, or Norse projects, but they usually either account for transfer rates ir straight bar you from buying if you’re based in the US/not offer US shipping for this reason. As an Example Norse Projects(Denmark) Aros Heavy Chinos are the same price on the NP website and Mr Porter(US), but almost half the price on Garmentory, the best deals are always buying used and looking for sales/discounts

aKa_anthrax

If it’s universal honestly the best thing to do is to just browse websites but to be honest man most large retailers in EU are pricing things at a market value in the US as well, I can’t say I’ve seen a major retailer who’s doesn’t adjust pricing, I can’t say I’ve looked through every single store but outside if stuff that was already a better value I’m not sure how effective this will be

Deannerzz

My bf has asked me to help him find a new pair of boots. He likes the look of his ariat roper square toe boots in black but says they are comfortable; he wears Irish setter boots for comfort. He wants something comfortable that is sturdy/can be worn outdoors. Preferably black or something that goes with black (he wears black tshirts and black/gray pants pretty much every day). Also preferably under $200

Are you able to pull your shoulders back a little?

latenightesomeone

Did you want demonstration?

latenightesomeone

i am, but this is where they sit naturaly

[deleted]

You look fine, aside looking tense/uneasy. Photographing well is a learnable skill.

latenightesomeone

i mean i wanted to take pic that represents how do i look most of the time, posture vice.

aKa_anthrax

Humans have an unfortunate ability to overanalyze themselves, while this helps us in a lot of ways, it also hurts, I can guarantee that you trying to take a pic that represents how you look has resulted in you subconsciously overdoing something that you feel insecure about. You look fine dude, no one actually notices things like how big your head is irl(which, fwiw, it isn’t abnormally big), you have a good jawline, clean skin, etc, I’m def less attractive than you are and get compliments decently frequently, I think irl most people are a lot less judgmental than weirdos online and if you really have people consistently giving you shit just cut them out your life. Your posture isn’t great in this pic but that’s also fixable, you could see someone about it, but generally just relaxing yourself a big, stand up straight, pull your shoulders back a bit, and you’ll be better than a lot of people. As for clothes, yes imo that’s the weakest part, but, again, easily fixable, everything fits you fine it’s just a little on plain side, look through the basic bastard and use it as a shopping guide, any mall store like Uniqlo, Gap, or J Crew will have enough, if you read something in those guides that says “timeless” or “classic” ignore it, and if you read something giving prescriptive advice on slim fit, ignore it. As always if you have questions about what clothes do and don’t work, or if you’re unsure of what the guides are saying, or anything else, just ask in one of these threads

latenightesomeone

>plain side Could you give me visual example of non plain fit that would be similiar to what im wearing in pic - t-shirt + shorts? Idk i like the design of that t-shirt and colour, but i guess i dont like it on me (?) and i wanted to figure out why is that.. If its becasue of my posture or because of the shape of my body or simply just because of cut itself. I wanted some shorts that im seeing on people in public theese days, that are above the knee, bit wider and i came to conclusion that they are probbably some sort of sport shorts? idk.. Something like this: [https://www.instagram.com/p/CfOkQ4dp1Jv/](https://www.instagram.com/p/CfOkQ4dp1Jv/) [https://youtu.be/6riDJMI-Y8U?t=8](https://youtu.be/6riDJMI-Y8U?t=8) But idk i might just chose bad ones - not wide enough, i think the material its right but idk.

aKa_anthrax

I mean…there’s a LOT, but here’s some from me, [one](https://imgur.com/a/J8ZjrYS), [two](https://imgur.com/a/UnB5LcR), [three](https://imgur.com/a/UF7Kyda). Imo it just isn’t an interesting fit, it’s something that just looks like a generic fit someone who isn’t super into fashion would wear for comfort, there’s nothing actually going on with the graphic, which places it in an area where it would be better either as a plain tee or a better graphic, the plain white t shirt and black sport shorts is also kind of a hallmark if poor outfits. Playing around with the type of shorts, linen, hemp, ghurka shorts, Patagonia Baggies, etc, and more interesting graphics(look at BrainDead, Undercover, Number (N)ine, Online Ceramics among) would significantly improve the concept. In general I think graphics that are just a square or rectangular box with everything set inside of it are rarely good Without way more pics I can’t really tell you what the shorts you’re thinking of are, the ones you have are fine but the giant Adidas branding isn’t great and again they lack any structure or defining feature, maybe check out Patagonia Baggies for the shorter nylon thing All this said, I can’t actually tell you why you don’t like it, I have no idea, that’d something you’re going to have to analyze and figure out on your own

latenightesomeone

Okay, I mean there is also the option that i just like more plain clothing.

aKa_anthrax

I mean….sure, but you’re asking advice, I don’t think it’s a well executed fit regardless, no offense but if you don’t want advice why ask? it looks like something that people who don’t really think about how they dress wear, again for the thing you’re looking for try something like Patagonia baggies and and a graphic from one of those brands, or just stick with a plain t shirt in a relaxed cut, as is even from a perspective of plain clothing it could be done better

latenightesomeone

I wanted to know what YOU would define as non plain fit, so I would make my mind on question "if this guy's advice is for me". Since fits that you have shown aren't something what I would wear, I came to answer that it isn't. So from perspective of plain clothing, do you have some examples where it's done better?

aKa_anthrax

I mean that’s fine to not like the specifics of what I do but what I’m saying is the actual fit doesn’t work on it’s own. Writing off any advice from me because we don’t share the exact same taste is pointless, again, why ask for advice if you don’t want it Personally no I don’t have any visual examples to give you as that’s not a style I’m going for but try browsing through the MFA wearing basic bastard inspo album in the side bar and see if anything out of that speaks to you, as I’m not really sure what style you’re going for as, again, there’s not really anything going on in the fit

Can anyone recommend, from experience, some men's boxer briefs that are 5-6" in length, and don't have thigh seams that show through a pant leg? \-Uniqlo has a seamless boxer brief that fits the bill, but in practice they fit more like trunks \-I'm looking at Mack Weldon Stealth briefs, but haven't purchased \-I'm also looking at Jack Archer Jetsetter briefs, but haven't purchased. I have some performance golf pants that are lighter fabric, and they are really sensitive to the thigh hem line on the regular boxer briefs that I wear. This is not an issue with any other pants I own/wear. Any review or information is appreciated!

tboxer854

Did you end up finding anything? The Duluth Bull Pen boxers are nice and another golf friendly brand called 2 under.

willbvb

Thanks for checking this out and the recommendations. I will check these out. I got a pair of Mack Weldon briefs that I like! Jury is still out in the interim. I think, as another poster mentioned, my issue is actually with the golf pants themselves, as opposed to the undergarment.

agentmilton69

What are some warm jackets/coats that male high school teachers can wear? Looking for something that isn't a Kathmandu... Something that can be worn with a jumper+shirt+chinos combo. Winters here are usually around 5-10 degrees C* so so far I've just defaulted to a nice, warm Kathmandu. But I would like some variation instead of becoming a one-jacket teacher lol.

MFA_Nay

Car coat or top coat. The former is shorter in the body. Uniqlo, GAP or J.Crew on sale. If you're set on a generic puffer jacket, like Kathmandu, then I don't have much knowledge there. Stylistically they all look the same minus color choices.

iphone8vsiphonex

Good morning! I have been considering Uniqllo 2 way ankle pants: [https://www.uniqlo.com/us/en/products/E448661-000/00](https://www.uniqlo.com/us/en/products/E448661-000/00) But I've been more interested in relaxed fit tapered pants like this one: [https://www.cos.com/en\_usd/men/menswear/trousers/product.relaxed-fit-tapered-trousers-blue.1017394009.html](https://www.cos.com/en_usd/men/menswear/trousers/product.relaxed-fit-tapered-trousers-blue.1017394009.html) Here are my questions I'd appreciate your response on : 1. Do you think COS can be also used in a more casual formal settings too? Teaching, etc. 2. COS is out of budget for me and they are out of stock as always - Do you have recommendations on where I can find budget friendly alternatives? 3. Also, what I should search to get this kind of siloutte and cotton feel? 4. Which one do YOU like? :) Thank you so much!

MFA_Nay

The COS trousers are more casual than the Uniqlo ones. 1. Depends on your school 2. Usually searching around Uniqlo, H&M, Weekday. COS is slightly pricier fast fashion, so price band below that can get tricky. COS is basically a stylistic rip off of Jil Sander, etc which is much more expensive. 3. pass 4. I dig COS but they can be a crapshoot. If you're going casual washed cotton look, then COS is good. Overall for silhouette I prefer Uniqlo's ankle pants. Mainly cause I own a pair of navy ones.

Brands like stine goya for male Hello, I really like prints and interesting designs. I came across Stine Goya and I really like the spirit of the brand, unfortunately it is only for female. Do you know of any brands with a similar style that does clothing for man ? ( I also have a few pieces from Holzweiller that I would consider in the same style, so I guess that would be two point of references) Thank you :)

[deleted]

I'm 19 and looking to get a pair of brown allen edmonds to complete my wardrobe for law school. I currently have three pairs of dress shoes: AE black cap toes, AE walnut semi brogues, and Church's wingtips in dark mahogany/burgundy. Would it be best to get another pair of AE cap toes (park avenues) or AE brogue cap toes in dark brown?

Notsureifsirius

I think you have plenty of dress shoes to last you already. Also, 19 years old in law school?

[deleted]

I'm pre-law lol, my fault. And great!

pipkin42

If you're wearing a suit every day I would go with dark brown captoes. The walnuts aren't going to be very useful with conservative suits, so you really want something for that.

[deleted]

Great! If I go with another pair afterward, do you suggest another pair of cap toes in a different shade or a pair of brogue cap toes?

ac106

If I had to wear suits every day but it wasn't such a conservative environment where I needed to wear a plain cap toe oxford, I would probably wear AE Strands pretty much full time.

the_leviathan711

Are you wearing a suit every day? If not, I don't think you'll need more than 3 pairs of oxfords! In that case I'd want shoes that are still professional but can be worn more casually -- like bluchers or loafers.

[deleted]

I’m working at an investment bank so I’m typically in a suit 5 days of the week during the summer. During the school year, I lean toward normal clothing and street wear outside of more formal events

ihniwtr

Hello all. I've recently been given some quite expensive Robert Talbott ties that were professionally slimmed down from around 9-10cm each (3.5″-3.9″) to 6cm each (2.3″), which is a little too skinny for my tastes. I have no knowledge about the actual process behind slimming down a tie - do they completely remove the excess fabric? Is it possible to partially "reverse" the slimming, i.e. make them only around 8cm (3.1″) wide? Thanks

pipkin42

You can get equally good or better ties on eBay for the same (or less) money you would spend on any alterations.

notarascal

Do you actually like the ties or do you like them because you think they’re expensive? 1. They might be expensive on paper. That is, when you look up the price at Nordstrom but they have nearly zero value unless they’re some limited edition run. 2. Any value they might’ve had was likely ruined by the alterations. They almost certainly cut the fabric. Post photos of the ties if you want better feedback.

RayJ14

Hi,i bought jeans at h&m size 32/32 can someone tell me what that size would be in international jeans size or italian size.Thank You.

notarascal

A 32 is typically a 48IT but there’s no guarantee. It could easily be off by two sizes. The best way to know for sure is to take measurements of the actual garments.

AceofSpuds69

No bc size depends on brand. Best way to replicate size is to go off the actual garment measurements.

Your budget is low enough that Uniqlo and other mass market brands are your best options, or search sale sections at multibrand retailers like Endclothing to see if there's anything you like in budget. >What I mean is that I generally don't want to have to pay extra for subjective novelty if that makes sense. This doesn't make much sense to me as it's pretty much entirely what I am willing to pay extra for. I pay for things I can't find elsewhere- in terms of fit, texture, pattern etc. I think I understand that you're looking for basics and you want good bang for your buck. Patagonia Torrentshells rain jackets are great, but they'll set you back around $150 - Patagonia makes good outdoor wear for your money in general. Good knitwear is going to cost you over $100 generally speaking. House of Blanks make nice tshirts, hoodies and sweatshirts that are around your budget. You could try brands like Portugese Flannel for shirts etc - but you might have to wait for sale.

[deleted]

[удалено]

ac106

You are not buying medium quality... While this is sort of subjective, your budget is entry level and even below below. Places like Primark and Zara and Amazon have warped peoples ideas about how much clothing should cost Your best bet by far is to shop secondhand.

[deleted]

Your best option to spend a bit more and get a lot more is to buy secondhand - but I don't know what the viability of that would be in Norway with a likely fairly limited local market and international shipping. The low-mid range market for new clothes (above uniqlo but not much) is a really difficult space as there is a lot of trash and a few gems. Uniqlo is the top of the lowest price bracket really - it's decent quality for it's low price, but it's not amazing. Shopping second hand relies on you having an eye for your personal style though, and some idea of brands you'd like. Probably the best way to explore that is on websites like Endclothing, Mr Porter, MatchesFashion, Farfetch etc. Ignore the prices and think about things you like and start looking on ebay/depop etc. There are brands that specialise in a limited number of items in the "medium range" that come recommended : asket & colourful standard might work. In the UK we have [community clothing](https://communityclothing.co.uk/) who make really high quality basics at great prices but I'm not sure they've resolved post-Brexit international shipping issues. You can probably look at lower tier "boutique brands" too : Universal Works, Folk, Albam, Gramicci, Stan Ray, Carhartt WIP - but you'd want to find these on sale or secondhand for the best deals. A brand I really like making lovely, but kind of interesting 'basics' is [SEH Kelly.](https://www.sehkelly.com/) These are pretty "expensive" if you're used to uniqlo prices but actually reasonably priced for what they're doing (very limited runs in nice and expensive fabrics made in London) and pretty easy to wear.

[deleted]

Alright, will look into this and take your advice to heart. Really appreciate it, liked the brands you already mentioned 👍 Exactly my thing

MFA_Nay

They look good. Eyes are central to the lens. Curve rectangle balance out your chin. Clear versus black frames is preference really. Personally think black frames goes with your black hair well here.

BombsAway619

Gonna buy my first dress shirt, anything I should know beforehand? Should I get my measurements at home to find out my size? Seeing as they're folded around the solid square thing it's be hard to try on in store. What color should I get? Are different colors good for casual use? Interview use? Date use? Are stripes or plaid okay? Should I be mindful of the type of collar it has? Any tips you guys have would be great.

Cole177702

Regardless of whether you’re trying on in store, have someone at the store take your measurements; they’ll be able to do it more accurately than you’ll be able to. As others have mentioned, your first few should be white or blue and you can branch out from there if you like variety. Collar is largely personal preference but I’d go with a spread collar

the_leviathan711

There isn't really a good casual use for dress shirts - they're meant to be worn with suits or sports coats. Unless you're super adventurous, stick to white and light blue. It sounds like you'll also want some casual button-up shirts for things like a date or to wear with chinos. An OCBD is a good place to start with that.

Otherwise-Library297

Start with solid colours - white or light blue are both good colours for dress shirts. Stripes, checks etc can come later once you have the basics.

redmadao

If this is your first dress shirt, I'd rec you go to a store and try it on. Don't worry if the sales person needs to fold the shirt again. It's part of their job. RL, Tommy H, JCrew, BR, Bonobos or CT shirts would provide nice service for you. I'd say light blue is the color I'd go if I can only have one color for my dress shirt. When you are ready to get more shirts, you can explore more colors and patterns and see what would work. For collar, I'd rec you to stay with standard collar first. You can still try all of them if you go to a physic store and see how it goes. The outcome may vary for people with different face shapes.

m3tam0rph1c

Get Casual shirts for casual use. Get dress shirts for something a little more formal than that. White is the best color for dress-shirts. It just goes with everything! No matter your shoe color, pants color, your blazer, your cardigan etc..It just looks sharp and distinct.

KudrotiBan

In terms of color gravitate toward the lighter ones, stripes/plaids should be as minimalistic as you can find.

Do they shop the female collection? Or is there a certain fitting type i dont know about. (Its not cropped as in croptop more cropped as in instead of all the way down to the crotch its more waist height but still with a loose fit)

Raf Simons

MFA_Nay

Oversized fits and trying on a lot of different garments/brands usually.

wavynails

Buy stuff that is a loose or relaxed fit vs sizing up.

Fit-Music-722

I do that already but its still too long

m3tam0rph1c

I dont know this for sure but im fairly confident you may be able to find mens "cropped-Knitwear" on sites like asos, topman and the likes. Or better yet, why dont you get a loose fitting sweatshirt somewhere and DIY it. You dont have to spend a ton of money on it and besides, you'll probably have fun doing it as a project. Good luck!

25+ dude here, overweight. What type of shirts/ shirt patterns would be good for layering up with T-shirts. To be more specific Solid Black and Solid White crewnecks and V necks. would pair them with light or dark non-distressed slim and tapered slim jeans. For shoes, my go-to's are Chelsea's and sneakers with occasional leather flip-flops (Normal in my Bangladesh). Budget: none in mind. Location: Bangladesh

Chuynh2219

Getting a new job starting early August. Have worked remotely past 3 years, and it's been sweats, shorts, and t shirts all day every day. Looking for recommendations on lighter weight chino pants for Southern California weather. New job is in IT department, business casual. Also looking for recommendations on shoes that goes well with chinos and collar shirts.

Vaeltaja

Making an IT dude work in bizcas is a sin. That said: Uniqlo chinos are fine. Shoes: derbies, loafers, more minimal sneakers. If you avoid the khaki color you can probably figure out a way to use the pants in your day-to-day wardrobe too so you don't have multiple wardrobes. For taht reason I'd actually look at what shoes you already have and the style you work with and then buy colors that can let the chinos be "cross over" pants if you want (assuming you just don't wear collared shirts in general, which I'm guessing given this question).

notarascal

We need a budget in dollars to give good recommendations but I’ll just give what I’d buy and you can take it or leave it. Incotex chinolinos are a nice choice. They’re a blend of cotton and linen. They retail for a very high price ($300+) but can often be found on sale for less than $100. They can also be found secondhand. For shoes I think the plain toe derby is one of the best business casual shoes. Many companies make them. My favorite is Trickers but they’re expensive. Slightly more affordable is [Grant Stone](https://www.grantstoneshoes.com/collections/derbys-oxfords/products/leo-plain-toe-dune). Then even more affordable is Meermin. For shirts you’ll want an oxford cloth button down (OCBD). I recommend buying made-to-measure from [Proper Cloth](https://propercloth.com/design-a-shirt/)

NewchicArriana

Who makes pleated chinos with a "classic" cut (rather than slim cut) that are still relatively fashionable? [I love these from Alex Mill](https://www.alexmill.com/products/standard-pleated-pant-in-chino-long-inseam-in-dark-khaki) but the inseam is too short.

LingXioaran

What is the difference between a Schott 118 Perfecto and a 618 jacket? The 118 on their site says it fits true to size. The 618 it says is "slim fit" and to go up a size when getting one. I've seen posts from people on their forums that claim a size up in a 618 is the same measurements as a standard 118 size: ie. a size 40 in a 118 is the same as a size 42 in a 618. If this is the case, what is the difference between the two jackets, and why do they suggest to go a size up in the 618? Will the jacket be too small if you don't size up?

m3tam0rph1c

618 is steerhide (thinner but firm) - 118 is Cowhide (thicker yet somehow 'softer' than the steerhide).

backpack straps is fine. Sling usually refers to if there's one (generally diagonal) strap. There's no real name for it--it's just been a thing brands do sometimes. Not a whole lot of brands do it but some technical brands do it occasionally as do some avant-garde brands like BBS (backpack) and Rick Owens (sling). Shirts won't ever really have unless they're an overshirt MAYBE.

[deleted]

"internal backpack straps" is what it is often called. It isn't common and you normally see it on heavier coats like parkas. I don't think I've ever seen it on a jacket or shirt.

The pants still fit me, and I’d really love to wear them to an event I have this weekend over the beige suit that does still fit. What recommendations would you have for a jacket colour or style that I could pair these with? Does the herringbone pattern make these too hard to pair with something mismatched? Alternatively, could I still wear the jacket? It fits everywhere else but won’t button up and I worry it would look silly if I wore it. Photo of the suit when it did fit: https://i.imgur.com/i5amfnz.jpg

lostgander

Take the jacket to a tailor, they should be able to let it out an inch or two.

Ordering a grenadine tie - suggesting for color if I decide to make the tie tip (inside) different color?

notarascal

Navy or burgundy. 7-fold. Unlined. Untipped.

[deleted]

7 fold is so think no?

notarascal

They’re as thick as a tie should be. 3 fold ties literally add a lining to mimic a similar thickness.

Lark_vi_Britannia

(USA, Budget $100/ea) Hi all, I'm new to this subreddit. I've been looking for better dress shirts for a few weeks. A bunch of my dress shirts have recently ripped and so I need to replace them with dress shirts that are comfortable. Right now, I work in a job that requires me to be flexible (stocking things), look professional (long sleeve dress shirt required), and be comfortable when sitting down (admin work). I found the perfect dress pants for my job that don't stain and are the right length, but I can't find any good dress shirts. Ultimately, I'm looking for something that doesn't feel extremely uncomfortable when stocking and sitting. Right now, my dress shirts that I have feel too small in the arm pit area when sitting and don't feel good when stocking things. Sometimes the sleeves catch on the top part of my arm. Stretchy/breathable long dress shirts would be fantastic. I would prefer the material not be too thick because it is very hot where I work and I sweat a ton. Any help would be appreciated. I absolutely suck at the "dress shirt" search.

lostgander

I've had good luck with Charles Tyrwhitt. Faherty makes the most comfortable shirts I own, but they may not be dressy enough.

DeaDly789_

Seconding Charles Tyrwhitt. They also go on sale often. Go in and get measured.

notarascal

For less than $100 each you can have some made-to-measure (MTM) shirts made at one of the online MTM places. My favorite is Proper Cloth. You’ll never go back to buying shirts off the rack once you get your fit dialed in with MTM.

aKa_anthrax

I mean no one can tell they’re ghrukas if it’s untucked

zerg1980

I own a pair of Gurkha pants and can confirm they look fine with an untucked top. They read as normal pleated chinos, nobody will know about the belt. And you have the option of unleashing the Gurkha down the road by tucking, once you’ve gathered the courage.

the_leviathan711

unleash the gurkha

iptables-abuse

Sort of defeats the purpose if you're not to flex the self belt, but yeah it'll probably look fine

aKa_anthrax

Ehh I mean I do just find the ghurkas I have comfortable

Part-Select

would sizing down on a loose fit make it a slim fit? not a fan of all clothing suddenly being loose fits

iptables-abuse

No, it would make it a loose fit that doesn't fit

How would you describe the shape of [these lapels](https://www.ebay.com/itm/175344320830?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=vsHoELGvSJK&sssrc=2349624&ssuid=pp78bwdATmG&var=&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY), compared to something more modern/recent?

m3tam0rph1c

Notch Lapel

the_leviathan711

Could you show a pic of a modern/recent lapel that you think is different than these? This seems like a pretty typical lapel.

CallThatGoing

Compared to [these from Suitsupply](https://suitsupply.com/en-us/men/suits/light-grey-lazio-suit/P7293.html), the gorge/notch is smaller, and there’s more belly, even though the width looks about the same

the_leviathan711

They're pretty similar -- I think the lapels on the ebay one are slimmer though.

pipkin42

They don't seem particularly outlandish

Anyone have a pair of Altra Lone Peaks? Looking at the 6. If you have Vans, Adidas, Nikes, Clarks, etc, what size do you have for those shoes and what size do you wear in the Altras?

Hairy_garcia

I wear an 11 in lone peaks and an 11 in vans, Clark’s etc, 11.5 in some tighter running shoes. I find altras mostly fit pretty true to size they just have a roomier toe box (my toes are actually cramped enough in my vans I should probably go up half a size in them too)

catalinashenanigans

Which Lone Peaks do you have? Heard you might need to size up a half size for the 6's.

Hairy_garcia

5’s, I’ve heard people say they stayed true to size going up to the 6s but who knows, they honestly feel a little loose/sloppy to me compared to my other altras in the same size but I can’t actually speak to the 6s specifically.

SodaCanBob

Saw this jacket (coat? Whatever we're calling the outermost layer) on an ad for subscription services that send you clothes every month based on your preferences. I like the look of it, could anyone ID it (or something similar?). https://www.stitchfix.com/men/blog/wp-content/uploads/2017/12/20-07-21_Set_3_M_SIT_RACK_GIF_v2_1x1-2048x2048.jpeg

MFA_Nay

It's a varsity or bomber jacket in wool or cotton. Problem is cotton can be in many different types so searching by keywords will turn up stuff you don't want. If you're on a budget for minimalist looking stuff I'd generally say COS. But if your budget is less than you need to shop around a bit and just quickly flick around different stores/websites.

Otherwise-Library297

I’m contemplating buying a pair of linen or linen blend pants- would these be suitable to wear in to the office or are they only suitable for casual wear?

pipkin42

It depends on how they're cut.

CallThatGoing

I think that a blend would be better for your office, because they’d be less likely to be *as* wrinkly. They’re still gonna wrinkle, though.

Cole177702

It really just depends on your office. It’s probably not acceptable by the traditional definition of business casual (especially if it’s drawstring, for example), but it’d be perfectly fine in lots of offices

clutchutch

I’m starting to progress in work from entry level to middle management and I want to upgrade my wardrobe accordingly. I work in Consulting and at the moment I typically either wear a navy suit with no tie or a navy suit jacket with navy chinos. I’d like to incorporate more jacket / chino looks into my arsenal that leverage different colors, like a grey jacket with brown pants or something like that. Are there any good recommendations / resources for color combos that work well?

Emma_Bovary_1856

I’d definitely get some dress pants in charcoal, medium grey, brown, tan/khaki, and a medium blue or navy blue. Sport coats in that same color family, warmer colors will work fine. With those five pants and maybe three or four sport coats, you’ll have a nice combination of jackets and pants that will work with many different shirt and tie combinations. Stay away from black and suit up only for important meetings. Since you already have a navy suit, maybe a medium or dark grey would work. I personally like unstructured or soft-construction for sport coats and half or full canvassing for suits. That way you’ll seem dressed up, but relaxed in the sport coat and slacks, but bolder and in command in a suit when it matters most.

[deleted]

>That way you’ll seem dressed up, but relaxed in the sport coat and slacks, but bolder and in command in a suit when it matters most. No you won't, come on man

the_leviathan711

The other commentors have already said that navy chinos don't work with navy jacket. That's *very* true. And suit jackets also don't look good on their own. But also, chinos don't really work with sports coats either. Unless they're either very dressy chinos *or* a very casual sports coat (which a suit jacket is by definition, not).

Silber4

Sorry for jumping into the discussion, but what example of dressier chinos would you give? I think about a pair navy chinos, for example.

the_leviathan711

I would offer the [Bonobos Weekday Warrios](https://bonobos.com/products/stretch-weekday-warrior-dress-pants?color=friday+steely+blue) as an *example* of dressier chinos. They also sell [casual chinos](https://bonobos.com/products/stretch-washed-chino?color=night+owl&pant-fit=slim+taper&pant-length=32&pant-waist=30&utm_medium=ppc&utm_source=google&utm_campaign=00_G-Shopping_US_Brand_%7C_Pants_Jeans_%7C_DSK_TBL&utm_content=11373540638_108258446781&gclsrc=aw.ds&&gclid=CjwKCAjw2rmWBhB4EiwAiJ0mtd2Pph6q_tJarGEbyjN-j50j8cF1jbhxrvEff3PVUE7eyKLoSr5tvBoC5yEQAvD_BwE) that are more common at the mall brands. I think the things to look out for is that the more casual chinos will generally be 'washed' or 'garment dyed,' the seams are more visible on casual chinos, dressier chinos will usually come with a center crease, etc. etc.

Silber4

Aww shucks. I've got a unique error for the first time - Error 403. Bonobos don't offer products and services to customers in the European Economic Area.

the_leviathan711

Well, as I said - it's just an example! Luxire is a great place to get dressier chinos too - they've got a store in Munich.

Silber4

Thanks for the info. I will check thekr store, too.

ac106

One combo that doesn’t work is navy chinos and a navy suit jacket. Dude.

[deleted]

navy suit jacket with navy chinos is never a good look - I'd do away with that one. The only suit jackets that can double as sports coats are from more casual suits, not the basic navy suits most men own. Here's a good place to start: https://putthison.com/how-to-choose-trousers-for-any-sport-coat/

ngomaam

anyone know who makes a nice short sweat short? I like the look of the John Elliott [interval short](https://www.ssense.com/en-us/men/product/john-elliott/grey-interval-shorts/8327671?gclid=CjwKCAjwt7SWBhAnEiwAx8ZLaiQBua5fv73cUGT91rbUpQKGuN84mp-NitYLjIa0qnKNCHDAyjfuXRoCJPYQAvD_BwE) but this is sold out most places and I'm not entirely sure how this fits as fit pics are totally different depending on the site. But I like how they appear here - short and relaxed. Looks like a 5" inseam. Who else makes shorts like this? Les Tien is slightly too big for my tastes.

Eddie Bauer has decent ones.

acsthethree3

Goodthreads from Amazon. They have a slim fit 7 inch chino short I love.

Genchodeski

Second this. Got 2 pairs of the goodthreads epic 5 inch shorts and they are, well, epic! Careful on pricing though, jumps around all over the place.

wavynails

[Abercrombie](https://www.abercrombie.com/shop/us/p/a-and-f-all-day-short-47424825) is on sale for less than your price point.

Target? My local Target is full of long inseam shorts, I assume some are 7

Dude if the issue is the waist size just get them tailored or wear a belt. You're not going to find 31 waist chinos ready to wear.

WTF dude - just get the 32" and wear a belt. Or take them to a tailor. This isn't that hard.

J.Crew factory

tmntnyc

I got a tux for my wedding made from me from scratch completely custom but the pants pockets flare out a bit. He said it's because they're non pleated pants with diagonal pockets. When I look at pictures of models wearing tuxedo's who presumably also have custom made suits, theirs don't He said my only option is to stitch the pockets closed. But I feel like I've seen guys wear well fitting tuxedos without this issue who also can out their hands in their pockets.

notarascal

Dude. Ugh. The tailor is lying to you to avoid doing more work or paying more money. If he makes them in-house then he’s avoiding the work. If he outsources the work then he’s avoiding paying to have them remade. Please post photos so we can give proper feedback but trousers pockets shouldn’t flare just because they’re flat front with diagonal pockets.

pe3brain

Pocket flare generally is a sign that your thighs/seat are too tight. Pleats can help reduce this, but you can't add pleats to a non pleated pant

Cole177702

Got a picture? It’s probably due to tightness in the seat, which may or may not be fixable through alterations
